“Kovalev would out-box all these guys and knock them all out… Hopkins would get stopped very early. Stevenson gets stopped in 5 or less.

The thing about Kovalev is, he’s a great puncher who has a great jab. Before he knocked him out in 4 minutes, he hit Sillakh with 5 straight jabs to the abs and made him miss every counter. Facing a guy Roy Jones touted as a great young boxer, that was interesting.

Meanwhile Stevenson and Hopkins were fighting Cleverly’s victims as their so-called mandatories.” This.

Tark, we don’t knox if Sillakh is better than Cleverly victims,we know he’s fragile with chinna chin though.

In a twelve rounder anything can happen.Fighter tiring out,,then get outboxed for the points victory, but if kovelov fought bhop the older kingpin would surely have to do his work mid to late rounds if he could withstand the Rusians shots.stevenson who knows?shuminov most likely the same scenario as Hopkins.

in todays boxing the best wont fight the best. full stop.

…”You want to go on vacation… You want Hopkins… You want Froch… Kovalev is the guy everyone wants you to fight and it sounds like he’s your 4th option.”

Posted January 6, 2014 4:13 am

Stevenson never said he wanted Kovalev… When asked repeatedly about the fight he said he wanted Hopkins or Froch… He said he’d fight Kovalev “if the money is right.”

In Boxing terms that means, “I’m not interested in the fight everyone wants to see. I’d rather fight guys who will make me less money, but won’t knock me out cold.”

If Stevenson indeed wants the fight it’ll happen. Both are HBO fighters who were put on the same card to hype up the matchup. Kovalev repeatedly called out Stevenson after his fight while Stevenson reluctantly said he’d do it when prodded on the issue. If it doesn’t happen you know why.

yeah man love u

Posted January 5, 2014 4:24 pm

Blame Golden Boy for the network cold war. They want to lock in ONE channel if they can’t dominate both. Promoters across the board were complaining about GB when HBO was strangled by them (anyone remember Lampley an company flat out admitting on air why a then-nobody like Gary Russell Jr. was being allowed to fight an eight-rounder on the televised broadcast for Berto-Zaveck. When the hell has an EIGHT ROUNDER been on HBO’s MAIN BROADCAST before? Maybe you’d see that on HBO Espanol feature, but that would be it. Oscar De La Hoya admires the UFC because they are ONE COMPANY who controls most everything going on in one sport, and they are hoping foolishly to try and create something just like that. Top Rank, Main Events, Goosen, and all the other will not laid down and die, so they really to dump that mentality.

As I a pretty tired of the Chicago hype job Fonfara (who among other things won a pretty dodgy TKO of Karpency, who seemed to take a dive, then seemed to KO Campillo in a fight he was clearly losing), I would LOVE to see Kovalev give the phony a title shot to expose how undeserved his last few wins were. If he lasts longer than Sillakh, I would be shocked, but there is no universe where Fonfara gets anything but KTFO by Kovalev if the fight happened. Good stay busy fight as Stevenson runs out of excuses.

“Kovalev’s chances of getting any of those guys in the ring in 2014 are remote at best. Hopkins is a Showtime fighter, whereas Kovalev fights on HBO.” THIS is exactly what is wrong wiith boxing nowadays. It’s either the wrong management or the wrong channel that is blocking great fights. Nowadays, Ali would have never fought Frazier or Foreman because either they would have had the wrong management or the wrong tv channel contract. This bs is killing boxing.

There are no enticing names in the WBO rankings other than Pascal, Bute and Fonafara and Kovalev won’t get any of those guys in the ring with him.

Team Stevenson are already on the verge of poaching Fonfara. How the heck is Fonfara a more fan pleasing fight for the Canadians than Kovalev? Stevenson’s terrified.

Fight Aficionado

Sounds like the ducking of Kovalev will continue. Stevenson’s in flight now.

Posted January 4, 2014 9:47 pm

old guy

Kovalev needs to lose a fight before he can get a fight with Stevenson or Hopkins, and maybe not even then.

Posted January 4, 2014 9:12 pm

Kovalev-Stevenson won’t happen any sooner than Golovkin-Martinez.

Stevenson has one thing in common with Kovalev’s last opponent Sillakh… He’s been KTFO in his only loss and has a suspect chin. Of course he’s not as fast and can’t box as well as Sillakh.

You total fooking idiot.

What the hell kind of pimp was Stevenson? He is just going to let Kovalev walk in ram one of his girls right up her choccy slot, wipe his d1ck on the curtains and then walk out without paying?

Posted January 4, 2014 2:47 pm

Kovalev vs stevenson, ward or hopkins are the fights everybody wants to see.
Make them happen!!

Posted January 4, 2014 12:47 pm

ward can pray to his plastic jesus all he wants it wont save his ugly butt

Posted January 4, 2014 11:43 am

Actually Glen Johnson might not be a bad fight for Kovalev, just because he’s so durable, and Kovalev needs to get the rounds in (he finishes people off so quickly that he never has his stamina tested). I don’t think it would be good for Johnson to take all those heavy headshots though.

As for Boone, he knocked Ward down, and KO’d Stevenson, but go check out what Kovalev did to him in the rematch.

Posted January 4, 2014 11:41 am

when ward fought boone he was down and crying real tears in the center of the ring

Posted January 4, 2014 11:33 am

jammo you haven’t a got single clue what you are talking about.

Posted January 4, 2014 10:44 am

kovalev reminds me so much of dennis lebedev very damgerous puncher but far from invicible. an he will get beat by a skilled boxer with a good that man is andre ward also glen Johnson would be intresting as despite glen not being at his best he is still as tough as teak an would test kov over a long figh.t sort of a learning fight for kov.jean pascal is also very tough an has good handspeed an would be by far kovs best opponent to date despite people saying kov will destroy any 1 he still hasn’t proved it.

Posted January 4, 2014 9:40 am

Kovalev is going to be the most avoided man in boxing for at least the next couple of years. Even if Hopkins didn’t have the HBO/Showtime excuse, he’d find others, since there’s no way he’s going to risk ending his career getting KTFO by “a white boy” (which is what would happen). Stevenson will avoid him for as long as possible, as will Pascal, Bute, Dawson et al., and none of them have a realistic chance against him.

For my money the only person who has a real chance against Kovalev is Ward (who fought at 175 as an amateur and has already cleaned out 168), but my feeling is that he is far too attached to his “0” to risk it. Instead, what we will hear is excuses, excuses and more excuses.

Posted January 4, 2014 9:03 am

on top of it all he is an horrible man who after knocking out the glass chin salikha thought he had just beat a prime sugar ray robinson by his reaction an made fun of salikha who was on the floor out cold. I cant wait to see kov sparked.

Posted January 4, 2014 8:25 am

kov a hype job like lacy was.

Posted January 4, 2014 8:22 am

who has kov beat despite not fighting any top fighters he already has a draw.on his record. an a close split decision ova journeyman darnell boone.

kovalev aint even soon to be p4p top 3

Posted January 4, 2014 8:08 am

Yo – “SOON” is the keyword. Kovalev, “SOON” to be No.1 P4P. Learn to read. I’ll even go as far as saying that Kovalev, GGG, Lomanchenko will be the 1,2,3 P4P within 3 years.

Posted January 4, 2014 7:25 am

Adonis is Scared

Adonis has a glass chin and will get blasted out the second Kovalev connects, sheeit even Tony Bellew had Adonis rocked on several occasions.

Posted January 4, 2014 6:30 am

This is why the LH division is awful, all the so called champs are too scared to mix it up with eachother, people love to see unification fights and see a true champion come out on top, there should be a super six tournament in all division, and whatever champ don’t take part for whatever reason should be stripped…too many damn promoters and governing bodies. Boxing is a business today instead of a sport.

Posted January 4, 2014 5:44 am

darnell boone knocked out Stevenson an in there 1st fight took kovalev to a split decision in there 1st fight. beating nathen cleverly an glass chin silikha does not make you a great fighter. same goes for Stevenson he beat a washed up chad dawson an tony bellew wow like.both very exiting but don’t at this time say there unbeatable an put them above ward.

Posted January 4, 2014 5:13 am

kovalev no1 p4p u must be tripping who has he beat.

Groves ain’t Amir Khan.

We’ve seen Groves get back up off the canvas and win fights.

We all know Froch was rescued, hence them going for a no-mark in Chavez for his next outing.

Posted January 4, 2014 1:23 am

Now I’m off to bed before the bold HH see’s that post lol

Posted January 4, 2014 12:48 am

Drive by.. That’s kinda how I saw things m8

Posted January 4, 2014 12:47 am

Drive by Portsmouth UK

The ref saw what was happening in the Froch v Groves fight, he saw what was happening , Groves was getting beat up, eyes rolling, the ref saw it and stopped it, Groves was going to get decked heavily which in hindsight could of shortened his Boxing career, or even finished it, so it was ok for Groves to get stopped at that point in the fight, forget it was a World title fight, it was a fight, he was just about to knocked out in a concussive way.

Posted January 4, 2014 12:43 am

Stevenson does not want to fight Kovalev……………..Kovalev was Hopkins’ mandatory, but Hopkins refused to fight him so Kovalev knocked out Cleverly for the WBO title. Hopkins said he would never fight Kovalev or Stevenson. SOB Ward does not want to fight them either, even in his home town with his personal referee, judges, boxing commission, commentators, etc…………..

Posted January 4, 2014 12:36 am

HHH.. Yip Foster the cheating cnt done him outta a clean KO

Posted January 4, 2014 12:32 am

We all know why Froch weren’t cheered out the ring a hero….

Posted January 4, 2014 12:27 am

They’ll make the fight. Telling u its not a smart move for Groves imo. Remember Froch never stopped the fight and was maybe 5 seconds away from getting cheered out the ring a hero for comeback of the year.

Posted January 4, 2014 12:26 am

It was a world title fight, Groves hadn’t taken a knee, knocked down or on the ropes gettin a beating and the stoppage was a disgrace.

In a world title fight?

IF Froch is odds on to beat him in a rematch, then why don’t they make the fight?

It’ll sell more than Chavez Jnr.

Posted January 4, 2014 12:13 am

HH.. Froch made a horrendous mistake crossing his feet like that in the middle of an exchange center ring. Now that was as heavy a knockdown as you’ll see. All I’m saying is credit where its due that takes some coming back from. Lets also be realistic here, there’s a good chance Froch was putting Groves to sleep in that round. Turn Jim Watts commentary off and its a totally different thing to look at. I agree it was premature to say the least but imo it was ending with Groves getting stopped by a proven finisher.

Posted January 4, 2014 12:01 am

Lefthook, I think Groves doesn’t make that same mistake again.

If Booth had been Groves corner, we wouldn’t be having this conversation I don’t think and Froch would be retired.

Groves sticking Froch on his ass and then winning every round up until that bent stoppage will have most fighters avoiding him.

Froch promised the rematch on the apron, then changed his tune a day later and has come across as a tnuc ever since.

Chavez Jnr …. ????????

This is as bad as Floyd/Khan!

Posted January 3, 2014 11:52 pm

HH…I’d go for a softer champion if I was matching Groves, I like him but Froch wont make those crazy mistakes next time. Groves looked after proper could be around for years. Stick him in with Ward of Froch now and he gets stopped and it might be curtains. Right now I’d take Froch all day long in an immediate rematch. Groves couldn’t get him outta there when he had him gone last time. They have plenty time with him.

Posted January 3, 2014 11:41 pm

Posted January 3, 2014 11:35 pm

Lefthook, sounds like you’re still writing Groves off.

The ref was a disgrace and rescued Froch. Groves weren’t on the ropes, on his ass or on queer street.

Always been a Froch fan as he’s an old skool British fighter and I honestly believe Groves is the cut from the same mold.

But it’s down to Froch which way he wants to be remembered.

Posted January 3, 2014 11:26 pm

Crawford?? he’ll get sent home with a arse skelping just like Howard Davis got back in the day

Posted January 3, 2014 11:22 pm

Posted January 3, 2014 11:20 pm

great to watch kovalev vs Adonis.

Posted January 3, 2014 11:15 pm

HH… No m8 been back a while lol. Froch done well to stay in the fight after getting caught square like that. Groves has surprised me since Degale, I honestly thought he was an accident waiting to happen. I reckon he was getting stopped properly 5-10 seconds latter in the round mind you. I cant think of anyone else in the division that would have came back from that first round. Groves should have jumped all over him. Might be the only chance he ever gets

Posted January 3, 2014 11:14 pm

Probably working the big mega Cleverly/Enzo fight for next year at Cardiff Arms Paaaaaaarc!

Posted January 3, 2014 11:03 pm

Rematch with Nathan “No Punch Power” Cleverly? Hey, Nathan has moved up to cruiserweight. Except he has no power. He makes Malignaggi look like a KO artist.

Posted January 3, 2014 10:59 pm

Lefthook, The bravest jam tart north of the wall! ;-)

Very well thanks mate!

Good to see you’re not lumbered the other side of the other wall!

The Froch/Groves fight is still a sickener for me and the ref wants looking into!

Miles ahead, no knee, no count and just a bent ref …. then to rub it in, Froch goes bandy for the rematch??????????????

Froch’s done everything right up to that fight, but if he wants to go fight a fat Mexican in Vegas instead of a multi-million pound fight the British fans want and deserve, then he can kiss goodbye to any legacy.

Go out on your shield and earn the stripes like everyone else did!

Posted January 3, 2014 10:52 pm

HH.. Happy new year bud, hows things m8. What did u make of Froch-Groves m8?

Posted January 3, 2014 10:40 pm

Beibut is fighting hopkins.adonis wants froch or winner of pascal bute.everyone will avoid kovalev except golovkin in which golovkin beat up on kovalev in sparring several we are at a stand still

Posted January 3, 2014 10:25 pm

Adonis and Bernard will avoid this white boy. Cause this boy can punch and KO you. But I bet you Beibut fights him. That will be a slam fest.

Posted January 3, 2014 10:12 pm

I’d rather watch Kovalev and Stevenson fight in a couple more fights and see them defend and build their unification a bit down the line.

These are two big real champs and the fight should be built up correctly because no one’s beating either of them.

Posted January 3, 2014 10:10 pm

Adonis will have to win convincingly or he’ll get robbed.

Posted January 3, 2014 10:04 pm

Looking forward to this unification. The fans deserve this one, make it happen!!
