“he proved that he CAN be hurt by someone who is NOT known for their pop, Lopez isn’t a very big puncher, ” Titopa, Lopez broke Ortiz’s jaw. Big punches do that. He had Maidana “paralyzed” because of a body shot to Marcos’ hip. Big punches do that. Actually, Lopez is known for his pop right now. That’s one reason why this fight garnered so much attention: Maidana stopped Ortiz, Lopez stopped Ortiz. We got exactly what we expected.

fight-fans realize that Lopez is a welter at most. he wasn’t even favored to defeat Ortiz and was in fact the designated set-up for the scheduled Alvarez v. Ortiz showodwn. Public Douchebag doesn’t realize anything beyond the number of pubic hairs covering Cheato Trinidud’s ball-sack, the number of times JuanMono Lopez got his ass KTFO in his hometown of PR by Salido, and that Rican boxing is history. he is haunted by this bitter nightmare reality and is now desperate for Mexican Boxing to suffer the same fate. however, with a numerical advantage of 1 Trillion to a few thousand, it’ll never happen . . . “Cannn-tahhh y no Llores”.

Public Enemy – You do realize that Lopez IS a 140lb with only 2 fights at higher weights, right?

Posted June 10, 2013 5:32 pm

I expected Maidana to win, but I think he raised more questions than answers…he proved that he CAN be hurt by someone who is NOT known for their pop, Lopez isn’t a very big puncher, and somehow (probably for his fast hands) managed to daze and hurt Maidana SEVERAL times, I was shocked, Maidana better tighten up that defense, cause there are FAR better fighters out there that WILL hit him harder….*caugh Matthysse *cough.

i expected Maidana to prevail in another loss. that’s his M.O. and he delivered once again v. Lopez who was beginning to regularly Sting and Ding Maidana with regularity. at which point, Maidana does what he does best: land a power a shot that changes the tide of the bout and apply his crude but effective finishing skills to end it. the stoppage was premature. it’s definitely not a bout that Smoger would’ve stopped or one that Lopez couldn’t have still won BUT those situations still favor Maidana. pinche “Chino” is a mini-beast with his lethal powerpunching ability and the cinder-block head to recover from anything but actual loss of consciousness that no opponent has yet been able to execute beyond plenty of KDs, buckles, and wobbles. Maidana perserveres to collect the win, Again.

In an interview with journlist Francisco Salazar on, before his fight with Lopez Maidana said: “I have gotten very good sparring at the gym, where I have seen different styles. I’ve learned a lot from Robert on how to set up and throw my punches perfectly. I will demonstrate how much I have learned from him on Saturday night.”

Posted June 10, 2013 9:02 am

“He has a better stance than Josesito Lopez, which gave him better punching leverage and endurance.. But defensively he’s still needs to plug a lot of holes.. A Mayweather fight is out of the question right now.”

Maidana is showing better head movement and he’s actually slipping some punches like a slicker boxer. His stance is excellent for the most part as he manages to maintain good balance and delivery of power while moving forward. Garcia has helped him to develop sharper, more measured and accurate punching without losing his famed power. But Josesito caught him with some big shots that he should not have been nailed with. As Maidana said himself, the hip shot delivered by Josesito left Maidana feeling “paralyzed” for about two rounds. Khan also dropped Maidana with body shots–this is a weakness Floyd would exploit to the max. Maidana also has a tendency to revert to his brawling style and when he does his defense goes with it–in lapses. Maidana looked even “rougher” against Soto Karass because Robert’s influence was just taking hold. I thought he looked really good for the first three rounds then he reverted to the “old” Maidana. But really, I do see improvement in each successive fight–Karass, Martinez, Lopez. If I could whisper in Garcia’s ears right now, I’d tell him to have Marcos do a lot of sparring with taller guys who have significantly greater reach than Marcos does and I’d have those guys try to beat the hell out of his body.

This was a great fight. Maidana looked to be fading, but came back well as he did against Ortiz. He always has a chance in these slugfests, but I don’t think he can rule the division. Hit and move guys give him big problems. Maidana vs Mathysse on a live feed from Argentina would be a great show.

Posted June 10, 2013 7:26 am

Maidana made Victor Ortiz quit… He absorbed everything Ortiz could put out and kept coming… He has a better stance than Josesito Lopez, which gave him better punching leverage and endurance.. But defensively he’s still needs to plug a lot of holes.. A Mayweather fight is out of the question right now.

Love both fighters, picked maidana to win, I think he’d match up good against the winner of Paulie and hbo’s wannabe!

Posted June 10, 2013 12:29 am

Maidana isn’t even close to the best at 147, he tried his hand at boxing but he’s miles away from even being able to compete with the top fighters at welter. He does have power and heart but that’s not nearly enough. Most don’t even consider Alexander a top fighter yet especially after the Bradley fight, and he made maidana look like an amature at times. Some ppl were suggesting a mayweather fight. Please even I wouldnt waste money on that embarrassment

Posted June 9, 2013 11:18 pm

I believe Lopez is making a big mistake by fighting at 147; at least for now. He may be a gusty kid, but it takes more than being gusty to ensure a successful career. An accumulation of loses can quickly turn any good fighter into a dud and staying at welterweight, where clearly Lopez is at a disadvantage, may be his downfall.

I don’t want to take anything away from Maidana because he has power and displayed better boxing skills since his lost to Alexander, but I can’t say he’s the best at 147. However, he clearly handled Joselito…and if Maidana is not the best at 147, just imagine what a better fighter than Maidana can do to Joselito.

By the way, I don’t know how the judges could have Joselito ahead before the stoppage. He won two rounds clearly, but no more than that.

these squeemish referees ruin fights , i think he could have given lopez more of a chance , with 2 brawlers it goes back and forth , can you imagine these today refs in classic fights ,

Whant to see maidana vs broner after broner kills paulie there’s no better option than maidana. I mean for a fan friendly fight that is .

Lou Moret has GOT to be one of the worst referees in boxing history. Look at his track record. Guerrero-Berto knockdown: holding behind the head and punching with no “break” whatsoever. Only one example. Last night was another. Turrrrrible stoppage. Just turrrrible.

Why must we constantly be exposed to Sam Watson and the “Annoying Watson Twins” as they chew their gum and give us their geekish smiles? Doesn’t Showtime realize how stupid they look as fake flag waivers? It’s just plain sickening.

And speaking of sickening, when is Showtime going to fire Mauricio Ranello? This guy belongs in the Hall of Shame in the non-participant category.

The mares stoppage was a joke too, can’t argue that. Do I think lopez was going to come back..F*** no. Just saying I feel robbed of a great finish that’s all. I mean Dawson could barely stand last night and the ref was still considering letting it go on, thank god he didn’t lol. Lopez had his hands up and was attempting to fight out of it. YouTube or turn on showtime right the soo-mo. I kno its a judmental call but it was a lil ridic to me. Rios/ alvarado 1. Alvarado was getting drilled hands down stumbling and ppl were crying all over this site that it was a bad stoppage, but last night was completely justified? Never gonna sell me on that sorry. Hidalgo is right lopez has no shot at against Mathyesse.

it was a premature stoppage but i was already expecting Maidana to once again snatch victory from the claws of a loss. he looked particularly quick and strong last night but so did Josesito for a spell. in fact, he was beginning to Sting and Ding Maidana with regularity when Maidana did what he does best: turn the tide with a power shot and fierce finishing ability. it’s become his M.O. nonetheless, i wish Smoger could become the west-coast’s designated referee. i would’ve liked to see this bout go on a bit longer. it didn’t look over to us.

“Josesito Lopez needs to go back to 140 and take on Matthysee… because he just can’t hang with anyone above 140lbs.” He’ll get hammered by Matthysse. But it doesn’t matter. Even after getting stopped last night Lopez said he was staying at 147.

Cuban Lara Broke down and stopped Angulo.. end of story.. Both Maidana and Lara were the much better fighters that night…

Lopez had his hands up the whole time dude. your blind. He tried to throw a right hand as the ref stepped in. In the slow-mo replay u can clearly see Lopez mouthing the words What The F***, eyes were not glassed. He may have been hurt and admitted as much in the post-fight interview. But he was NOT in trouble and was Clearly defending himself to the end. I picked maidana to win from the word go, and I am positive he would have finished it off with a great KO, but he was robbed of that opportunity as were the fans. U can think as u like but that was the worst stoppage ive seen since Calzaghe-ManfredoJr.

Lopez was helpless against the Ropes didn’t throw a single shot after Maidana landed his shots.. everyone there including the Announcers agreed the fight should’ve been stopped.. you have to defend yourself something Lopez was not doing.. all that would’ve happened is that Maidana would’ve left him lifeless on the bottom rope like Danny Garcia left sore loser Eric Morales…

Public dipsh**. STFU dude you should go hang out with traveller . Your iq’s appear to be on the same level. Maidana himself even allured to the fact the fight was stopped too soon which surprised me. I’m not sure why so many boxing fans expected Joselito to win this fight. His most exciting fight was against Ortiz…a fight he was losing until he broke Ortiz jaw. He had lost a fight before fighting Ortiz and though he fought Canelo, it didn’t mean anything…he lost.

Obviously his corner’s plan was to outbox his shorter opponent; however, he was losing that battle as he got tagged with some strong punches from Maidana. On round three and four he decided, against his corner’s advice, to go for the KO. He was successful in hitting Maidana with some good punches, but by the end of round four, he realized that Marco was not going anywhere.

It was obvious at the start of round five that Lopez did not want to keep trading punches, as he began back pedaling, just as he did on round two. From that point forward, we saw a more cautious Lopez, with Maidana landing some hard punches and his surprising new jab. The rest is history.

In my opinion, Lopez does not stand a chance against any top 10 welterweight and may have to drop down to 140 if he wants to be successful. On the other hand, Maidana has the power to compete at 147, even with his shorter reach. He boxed well this time around and may want to continue learning, not just to throw the jab, but to be more effective in protecting his chin.

Lopez finally got someone in the ring that was smaller than him, and he got stopped. Maidana seems to be improving.

Jay Rock – Josesito is not a bad kid but I think you may be right, he needs a new trainer and needs to get away from that old Mexican face first brawling style.. not good for him.. he needs to focus on his boxing and out box these guys.. going all Macho every time someone tags you is a recipe to getting yourself KO’d especially against the guys with true power…
