I GOT INTO BOXING in 1982 and remember reading the cover of the formerly independently owned, RING Magazine in respect of the WBA bagman, PEPE CORDOBERA…. As far as I am aware there has been corruption in boxing since men laced up gloves and agreed to face each other between the ropes!
My main gripe with boxing is over the reduction of world title bouts from 15 rounds to 12 – there is no conclusive proof that this has reduced the number of deaths in a boxing ring – in fact IMHO I have read about far many more deaths in a ring since the reduction from 15 to 12 rounds in conjunction with the authorities in their infinite foolhardiness allowing boxers to make weight 24-36 hours before the fight!!!
IMHO this has allowed men such as JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JNR to fight in a weight division they have no right to and exercise a powerful and somewhat dangerous advantage over their fellow boxers….

I cannot for the life of me see why we cannot monitor fighters to fight in their natural weight divisions and give them a 45 day, 30 day and 15 day check weigh-in and then closer to fight night to maintain they are making weight properly, and combined with weigh-ins on the same day we will have FAR FAIRER bouts and IMHO far better contests like we used to have in the 80’s and early 90’s!!!

I remember asking CORNELIUS BOZA-EDWARDS what he used to weigh between bouts and he told me he generally would weight only 4-5 pounds above his fighting weight, which would make sense to me as he is a pro fighter and should be spending his time training and not exercising his fingers on Twitter or on red carpets!!!

Title bouts should be 15 rounds to separate the great from the mundane…. Great fighters like SALVADOR SANCHEZ, EUSEBIO PEDROZA etc lived for the championship stretch…. How many of today’s mundane men would have been titlists back in the 70’s,80’s over 15 rounds???

Can you imagine if TOMMY HEARNS had 24 hours to put back weight/ fluids etc when he came in emaciated at 144 vs LEONARD??? Would we have had a different result?????

MY THOUGHTS lead me to believe that JOSE SULAIMAN is not happy that his share of the pie is being reduced by the vultures circling high overhead…..

Now if only the likes of the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO could get together and listen to the fans and get rid of all these bogus titles and house-sitting baubels, such as Emeritus, Champion In Recess and all the other nonsense, enforce the rankings and stop men like AMIR KHAN being ranked at Number 2 on the back of 2 recent defeats – 1 by KO in a division he has never fought in!!!!!

Get back to basics and stop trying to rob both fans and fighters of their rightful shots…. Make fighters earn their shots, give us back the 15 rounder and same-day weigh-ins and if properly monitored I believe we will have safer fights between the fighters….

So is it now IBA, not AIBA anymore. I think that Sulliman is actually a little scared of Mr. Wu and his organization. Just think, if in the future, they have world title fights, and those fighters can also fight in the olympics, and get further media exposure, the case may be that you will see more fighters fight for Wu’s organization, and forego the WBC and the other ilk that has been detrimental to the sport within the last 30 years. The IBA is going to do away with the headgear, and the scoring that has recently marred the amateur game. While I won’t say that it will be a perfect organization, but neither is FIFA, is it not possible that they might bring some needed stabililty to the sport.

If someone is pissing off Jose “Amir Khan is number 2 in the world at a weight he’s never thought at, I am not corrupt” Sulaiman – that’s probably a good thing.

Wow. This doesn’t sound good, no matter where you stand with boxing.
