In an impressive display of punching power, unbeaten #2 World Boxing Organization cruiserweight contender Oleksandr Usyk (8-0, 8 KOs) smashed his opponent #15 WBO Johnny Muller (19-5-2, 13 KOs) in knocking him down twice en route to a 3rd round TKO on Saturday night in front of a huge crowd at the Palace of Sports in Kiev, Ukraine.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko was in the audience to witness the 28-year-old Usyk’s devastating performance in doing away with a good contender in Muller.

2012 Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist Usyk put Muller on the canvas courtesy of a left hand in the 3rd round. Muller staggered to his feet and told the referee he was fine. Usyk then immediately dropped him again with another hard left to the head. After the second knockdown, Muller backed up against the ropes for a last stand, and he took a blizzard of head shots from Usyk until the referee stepped in and halted the fight.

Usyk is now in position to get a title shot against newly crowned WBO cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Glowacki when he eventually gets around to fighting his No.1 contender. That might not be anytime soon.
