Ivan Calderon retires; Santa Cruz vs. Zaleta on 11/10

ABO, PUERTO RICO- Former two time world champion, Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon, announced today his retirement of boxing in an event held at the new Amelia Municipal Boxing Gym Felix Pagan Pintor, where Calderon is going to work as trainer and administrator.

After 11 years as a professional boxer, a record of 35-3-1, 6 KOs, and World Boxing Organization (WBO) titles at 105 and 108 pounds, Calderon, 37, hung up the gloves to continue as a teacher for the new generation of boxers. Continue reading

By Dwight Chittenden: Former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (22-2-1, 19 KO’s) got off to a slow start in the early rounds but then really came on to batter Jonathan Oquendo (22-3, 15 KO’s) and stop him in the 7th round on Saturday night in a crucial fight for the 28-year-old Vazquez Jr. at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Vazquez Jr. was dominated in the early rounds, but suddenly he started coming on in the 5th with his big power shots and eventually stopped Oquendo in the 7th. The referee then stopped the fight at 2:33. Continue reading

Ivan Calderon vs Moises Fuentes on Saturday

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimum champion Moises Fuentes trained lightly today for the media in his way to the fight against former two time champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon this Saturday, October 6, at “The War”, to be held at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer to be broadcast on “Pay Per View”.

Fuentes (15-1, 7 KOs), from Mexico, came to the Caimito Gym along with his manager Marco Antonio Barrera, former world champion, his trainer Jorge Barrera, his physical trainer Scott Anthony and assistant Aron Dominguez. CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO- World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimum champion Moises Fuentes arrived in Puerto Rico late last night for his bout against former two time titlist Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon on October 6 at “The War”, to be held at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer to be broadcast on “Pay Per View”.

Mexican Fuentes (15-1, 7 KOs), who is going to defend his belt for the second time, arrived with his team to complete his training this week for his fight versus Calderon (35-2-1, 6 KOs) in the co headline bout, scheduled to 12 rounds.
