Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Wow! It’s hard for me to believe the WBC already has him ranked that high. I mean… who has DW beat in order deserve that high of a rating? A washed up and shot 37-year-old Liakhovich who in his prime lost to every class-A HW he ever fought.

Posted March 16, 2014 9:14 pm

Because Wilder is ranked #3 by the wbc. I don’t understand why anyone would call this a “title elimination bout” though with Scott as #26 before the fight.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Maybe Wilder would KO Stiverne within 6, but what makes you think he deserves a shot at the WBC title considering he’s never even beat a contender ranked in the top 20? (And please don’t say his record and KO% because he’s been smashing tin cans and punching bags.) Wilder got rocked by an average jab from Firtha of all guys. His chin is still highly suspect and he’s yet to get chin-checked by a top-tier Super HW with REAL power and good defensive technique.

Wilder should be the #1 contender once and whenever Stiverne and Arreola fight.

I find it hard to believe that Scott got ko’d so soon.

Posted March 15, 2014 3:46 pm

Scott was also harrassed by the referee whenever he retaliated for the rough stuff.

Posted March 15, 2014 3:25 pm

Nicolas you’re dead wrong.

Listen to the telecast… The British commentators were both pulling for Chisora but had Scott well ahead. They only gave Chisora the 5th. Scott was winning easy.

Even after the fight the British commentators, one of which was the very knowledgeable Barry McCuigan, said Scott was winning.

It was a mismatch from a boxing standpoint. The referee allowed Chisora to push and shove with his shoulders, arms, and head and hold and hit and maul. That’s the only time he got any shots in.

It was a BS refereeing job and Scott when he retaliated. Scott was boxing the piss out of Chisora all the way and was robbed by a BS count.

Posted March 15, 2014 3:23 pm

TARK: I doubt that Scott was leading on points when he got decked by Chisora. First, they were all British judges, and the compu box stats per round had Chisora far ahead, the only round that was close was the 5th, Chisora with a 10-8 margin. I looked at BOXREC, but they did not have the score of the three judges. Also someone here commented that Bernabe is Jamaican, I believe he was born in Haiti.

Posted March 15, 2014 2:20 pm

I think this is a good albeit late in coming test for DW. Scott is a very skilled boxer. Hits and doesn’t get hit. I thought he definitely won the fight with Glaskov. If Wilder catches him and starches him it will be an impressive win. If it goes the distance it will be very interesting to see how it is scored.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:42 pm

Lol bunch of haters on EB..Deontay is fighting a legit opponent and y’all on the American..where’s the support. Y’all must want a Jamaican(Berman Stiverne) to win the title so the U.S. will be forever shrouded in failure

Posted March 15, 2014 1:33 pm

With all due respect to Mr. Spock, what Deontay would prove in a victory against Scott depends on HOW he won.

If it’s an early Audley type KO, it will prove nothing.

If Deontay dominates, outboxes Scott, and knocks him down a couple times en route to a UD win– that would be impressive.

If Deontay gets knocked down and gets a gift decision by the judges, it would be disastrous.

If Scott fights hard, boxes well, cracks Deontay on the chin ( and Deontay laughs), and gets stopped by Deontay in 4-5, Deontay will be a legitimate contender.

Leonard Nimoy

Deontay ain’t gonna prove he’s the Real Deal by beating Malik Scott.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:18 pm

Scott wasn’t stopped by Chisora you idiot. He was leading on points when he was caught behind the ear and took a 9-count… He was obviously following the count very closely and everybody with 2 good eyes could see he was up before a 10-count could have been completed.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:15 pm

Malik got stopped easily by Chisora,he wasn’t exactly the finest example of avoiding danger and he was intimidated by Chisora,so if Big Bird can’t knock him clean out in a couple of round you’ll know where he’s really at.Nowhere.

Posted March 15, 2014 11:53 am

As Malik’s paper bag consultant,I’m privy to what’s been happening on the run up to this fight.Basically Malik has been on a diet of popcorn and his training has consisted of relieving his rectal itch several times a day. This,in truth should be enough to see him beat Windy Miller, although Malik did mention that him and Deontay being like brothers would make it hard to purposely avoid D’s easy to read punches, purely out of loyalty.

Posted March 15, 2014 11:50 am

Malik Scott I’m sorry man but you about to get knocked out. When he does give the man his props. He’ll be taken down a skilled fighter who knows how to use his jab and get away from danger so that right there says a lot.

Posted March 15, 2014 11:21 am

a step in the right direction. give them americans a belt and let them fight over it. old thompson would come on top.

“TARK@ but what if it’s a fix, since they’re buddies?”

What if every fight is a fix??? You stupid jerk.. Friendship ends when that bell rings.. Did you ever play a game of basketball, chess, or spar with a buddy??? You’re not going to let him win you idiot.

Especially if there’s tons of money and fame involved.. You’re going to take no prisoners.. You’re going to take him out and resume your friendship after the fight.

I’ve never seen brothers fight… but friends fight all the time.

three different times Audley had a chance to counter Deontay’s face-first, lead footed jab.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:08 am

Against Audley, Wilder showed terrible mechanics.”

I heard Freddie Roach say the same thing about Amir just before signing his contract post Breidis Prescott’s 0.54 seconds “mechanical failure”.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Beating a couple of journeymen ranked in the top 20 might help. Wilder is already 30-0 and approaching 30 years of age. WTF is he waiting for??? Oh that’s right… for King Wlad to get old and/or retire.

My mistake: Wilder.

Posted March 14, 2014 9:12 pm

The Prince

The problem with Wielder is that he’s a Glass Cannon? He has great KO power, but he also has a weak chin and can get easily hurt. Given that it’s the HW division, that makes it even worst. With that said, I wish him the best of luck on his quest to become the next big HW.

Posted March 14, 2014 9:12 pm

scott might have wilder looking bad and ordinary in there power not everything especially if u can take his power away from him then what he got but this is the heavyweights it only take one shot to end it i think scott should stay at close distance to wilder for he wont get that right hand off wilder cant fight at close distance long distance he can with those long arms i think scott got to set traps and fenits make wilder miss and make him pay scott defense got to be clicking first once his defense is sharp then the offense going to come i pick scott to win but i wont mind if wilder wins cause i want to see him and bryant jennings fight

Posted March 14, 2014 9:04 pm

Op Amp

The knowledge that they have of each other, I think will benefit Scott, but I really don’t think it matters, because DW has got crazy power. Remember RJJ’s freak reflexes? DW’s got that but in power! I usually go with skills over power, but DW’s power is the exception to the rule. Scott should bring a pillow and blanket to the fight.

Posted March 14, 2014 8:58 pm

Against Audley, Wilder showed terrible mechanics.

He threw jabs with his whole body, leaning in head first, with his chin up in the air.

Audley saw it, but was too scared to take advantage.

If Scott counters the jab with a right cross, Wilder will crumble.

skills pay the bills scott got the skills to take wilder to school or he will get knockout by wilder one way or another it can play out many different ways hope there friendship dont mess up the fight tho if they go in there acting like they aint trying to hurt each other and they being to respectful and smilling that going to ruining the fight that going to make the fight borning if they didn wont to hurt each other they shouldn of sign up to fight each other

“Malik will be the closest thing to a good fundamentally sound fighter that Wilder has faced as yet, but this fight won’t tell us much about the questions concerning what sort of beard he’s got.” – Exactly. It’s telling that the first world class opponent of Wilder’s also happens to to have one of the lowest KO% in the division.

Posted March 14, 2014 8:33 pm

TARK@ but what if it’s a fix, since they’re buddies?

Posted March 14, 2014 7:40 pm

I think he sees a huge lack of experience against quality heavyweights and a vulnerable chin.

Posted March 14, 2014 7:30 pm

I think this is what Scott is counting on yo… He’s sparred with Wilder a whole lot and has memorized all his weaknesses… I don’t think he would take the fight if he thought Wilder was going to flatten him.

Posted March 14, 2014 7:28 pm

if this is anywhere near a legit fight, Scott SHOULD win.

He is bigger, more fluid, has a higher boxing IQ, and has proven he can fight the distance.

The problem is the intimidation he showed against Chisora. He often allowed Chisora to crowd him on the ropes and bang his body.

Being stationary against Deontay will get Scott knocked out.

If Scott moves, pumps jabs, rights, hooks, and then ties up– I don’t see how Wilder wins.

Wilder has a Michael Moorer, Alex Stewart chin– even weak hitters are a KO threat.

If Scott comes out, roughs up Deontay and unloads on him, I fully expect Deontay to go down.

Martin “El Bruchador” Honorio

He talks in third person mode…like… like… Hamed (remember him?). Hamed is knocking out everybody, until he met Barrera, a very elite fighter at that time.

approximately 100 years ago, some overrated author named London , came up with the stupid term “Great white hope”. Now we yanks are searching very hard for a dark equivalent. I did like “To build a Fire”, but “Seawolf” fell apart after a few chapters and became quite fruity.

Posted March 14, 2014 6:19 pm

Fixed fight

DW fighting his friend MS….How can you really take this fight serious? DW needs to fight 3-4 top ten opponents to get a title fight

Posted March 14, 2014 6:05 pm

Getting a KO here is going to be tough for Deontay.

If it were schedluled for 6 rounds he could go all out for the KO. I think he would get it. But he cannot afford to go out after Malik like that because he’s never gone even a full four (4) rounds. He might not survive through the late rounds if he runs his tank out.. He has to conserve his strength.. Malik went the distance with Glazkov and most thought he won their draw. He’s very cagey.

Think Sugar Ray Robinson vs Joey Maxim. SRR was gone by round 10. It was downhill from there. Pace yourself.

Seriously, Deontay could be in real trouble in the late rounds if he doesn’t fight smart. He has to take his time and try to win each round. Malik has never been behind on points in his life so Wilder can’t get frustrated if he loses a round or two. He has to try to win the next round rather than go for the kill … Malik is still one of the best boxers in the division.

Wilder has a secret training technique to improve his power, he is sparring with department store Mannequins, the theory is that a plastic sparring partner can’t be knocked out, improving his over all power. This has been a highly protected secret behind-the-scenes in pro boxing.

Posted March 14, 2014 4:18 pm

The fix is in kiddies!!! Title eliminator !!!!! Wilder will win this then fight for a world title without even facing a top 10 heavyweight . Put money on wilder having a title by the end of this year.. Slip to the bookies kiddies and see what odds you get. This is amazing because trust me the money is garunteed

Wilder called out Christy Martin and layla ali and their refusing to comment so wilder is comming up and at least calling out fighters that are a step north in the talent department with Martin and Ali.
Gota give wilder credit for that.

wilder will KO stiverne no prob!

Posted March 14, 2014 3:37 pm

Wilder beating Scott still doesn’t prove anything. Scotts a bum. That said, until he fights a breathing opponent, so is Wilder. Wilder v Stiverne would show us something, for example.

Posted March 14, 2014 3:32 pm

It’s Me, Ernie

That would be a hilarious smackdown of the gypsy if he got into the ring with the unimpressive(so far) Wilder. Any skills at all will end the career of Fury, his days are numbered if he ever steps up…

Posted March 14, 2014 3:26 pm

Ballou Armash

Malik will be the closest thing to a good fundamentally sound fighter that Wilder has faced as yet, but this fight won’t tell us much about the questions concerning what sort of beard he’s got. Still, it’s an interesting contest as Scott appears to be the best opponent that he will have been in with at this point in his career.

Posted March 14, 2014 3:25 pm

He can prove something by fighting someone who knows how to actually fight – not box – and who can punch – Wilder is a heavyweight Mark Breland

Deontay has fought less than 60 rounds to get his 30 wins and although I love his power, there is nothing that I see that dissuades me from thinking a guy with a good chin and some technical ability can take this guy to deep waters. Adersity is the proving ground for all prospects. Let’s see how he reacts WHEN Malik takes him there. Scott is a live dog for sure.

It takes more than a chisora victim to prove it

Posted March 14, 2014 1:48 pm

He can not prove it because it is not true. Al Haymon the shadow can set up bogus fights and manipulate the rankings so he can maneuver his way to a belt but wilder is a sad boxer. Imagine what a decent top 10 heavyweight would do to him.
