fair point mate burns said he will fight anyone who is put in front of him as he said he leaves that up to his manager promoter he can only fight who is in front of him and if he is ever beat he knows he will be beating by the better boxer his words not mine people cant make excuses for this boxer and that boxer not being fit not being right to box burns should be given the credit he is due and if the fight happens with broner great for all the boxing fansPosted September 26, 2012 6:39 pm
take it you dont like burns pal ehPosted September 26, 2012 6:31 pm
people will have there reasons of boxers they like ricky burns is a great boxer a lot of people thought mitchell would knock burns out it was the other way round i seen mitchell stop john murray and he was 31 and 0 thing is would love the fight to happen you never know i take burns to win against broner bring him to glasgowPosted September 26, 2012 6:29 pm
would love to see burns fight broner but in glasgow would be a good fight just dont like the way he acts and showboats
Average fight record of their respective opponents: Burns (W15/L16), Broner (W13/L3). Considering Broner is much younger and his career is just starting, I’d say his resume stands up pretty well.Posted September 24, 2012 12:12 pm
A great win for Burns. He is world class and ready for the big time. I hope the promoters make him a very rich man.Posted September 24, 2012 10:58 am
Agreed: warren will line him up with Scott Harrison or Gavin Rees at best. It’s gotta be Antonio DeMarco if Burns wants any legacy!Posted September 24, 2012 4:56 am
Mitchell didn’t make any excuses – I thought the guy was very sporting and full of praise for Ricky.Posted September 23, 2012 7:08 pm
ricky burns resume pisses all over broners last time i checked when broner stepped up in class he got a dodgy decision really hope they fight tho wld be a graet fight and burns deserves a good pay day the guys done it the hard way no hype jobPosted September 23, 2012 6:04 pm
Daly jnr, He might never be ready for Burns period. He needs 6-7 fights gradualy having sterner tests. But who knows, obviously he needs money so anything might go downPosted September 23, 2012 6:00 pm
Daly jnr, my worrie with Burns is that he seems such a nice guy that he’ll be robbed blind by promoters and managers. I dont think Ricky would be hard to py for some reason. Hes exactly the type of guy you’d love to see paid multi millionsPosted September 23, 2012 5:55 pm
Just saying it would be a great fight and I think Broner would win… It would be a really good fight though. Just annoyed Burns moved up a division and we never saw it. I’m not really that much of a Broner fan, just know he is something special… Unfortunately so does he.
Just hope Warren lets Burns take the fight if it comes up again. I doubt it as it’s not really the Frank Warren way. He prefers his fighters to take the path of least resistance historically.Posted September 23, 2012 4:16 pm
You must work for Frank Warren… I think that’s how he makes his matches… Obscure organisations and little concern for any timelines… Nicky Cook could barely walk up a flight of stairs when Burns got hold of him… Lasted about 1 round didn’t he? If Broner had a tune up fight with Roberto Duran would you respect that?Posted September 23, 2012 4:14 pm
LOL What makes you think you deserve one.
Look at me I can read box rec and talk up the latest HBO hype machine.
BORING.Posted September 23, 2012 4:13 pm
Intellectual reposte… You sir are a scholar!
Happy hour in Glasgow finished early I see!Posted September 23, 2012 4:02 pm
I don’t think the WBU counts as a World Title…Posted September 23, 2012 3:57 pm
So Burns beat one world champion in Martinez, and one badly damaged world champion in Cook. All in the last 2 years… Give him a prize!Posted September 23, 2012 3:55 pm
When were Graham Earl or Katsidis World Champions? you must live in a different world to me. They are stepping stone fighters.
I think Hatton is having his comeback against Katsidis in November, that’s the level he’s at. And Mitchell lost to Katsidis, badly, so work out how highly I rate him.
I take my hat off to Burns for Martinez… Earl and Cook (did you see the fight? Cook clearly not fit) and Katsidis not so much. Moses is ranked by boxrec as number 26 in the division… Come on!
Burns uses his size advantage well and can dominate smaller fighters. But Broner is still young and at a completely different stage in his career to Burns and already I think Broner is the better fighter.Posted September 23, 2012 3:38 pm
He lost a wide UD to Alex Arthur… I don’t think that’s a positive note on is Resume.
Before that he beat Alan Temple (15/18/0) and after he fought Adolphe Avadja (10/17/0), then Wladimir Borov (16/29/1). I’m not really seeing the quality there. Lost another wide UD to Johanneson and then fought Ernie Smith (13/117/5).
Where are these steller names mate?
I’m not criticising Burns, I’m just pointing out that Broner has achieved a lot more than Burns at a similar stage in his career. Broner is only just turned 23 don’t forget.Posted September 23, 2012 3:04 pm
The fight that the WBO put as mandatory for the World champion when Burns vacated was Broner… that is a fact. There is no debate here, it’s just a plain fact. I don’t blame him for moving up, but let’s not pretend that Warren/Burns wants any part of Broner now or in the past. I’m not saying it was Burns decision to avoid the Broner fight, it probably wasn’t… Warren has to protect his few remaining cash cows.
I don’t think he’s fought anyone at the same level as Broner since moving up in weight btw… Out of your list he’s only fought Mitchell, who is too small for the weight imo.Posted September 23, 2012 2:56 pm
Criticise Broner for coming in to a fight too heavy or criticise him for moving up in weight class. Can’t do both!Posted September 23, 2012 2:24 pm
Burns ducking Broner is LOL. It’s Broner who’s faced the softest comp of any recent title holder. He chose 135 because the division is thin in talent and he’ll be able to collect HBO paydays against hand picked opponents. Who even knows if he’ll bother making 135 since HBO and the commissions won’t force him to.Posted September 23, 2012 1:57 pm
Impressive win over Mitchell and surprising the way Burns did it. I didn’t think he could punch his way out of a paper bag but he sure proved me wrong. Guess we can officially call Mitchell chinny now. He got KOed badly both times he stepped up to high quality comp.Posted September 23, 2012 1:51 pm
Burns was the champ when the fight was talked about. He would have surely picked the venue. Truth is Warren will not want to take any risks with Burns career and will dodge Broner. All the better boxers have to leave Warren after their record has been well padded for years to really face the top contenders.Posted September 23, 2012 1:15 pm
Quote from joe’s treainer – ‘They gave it Scott every round joe did us dead proud 10hr notice he was in pub last night when I rang him he ran 6 mile at 6.30 in morning to drop weight got on train by him self to Scotland 7 hr no food got off the floor in 1st and gave him hell oh n let’s not mention he’s not been in gym 8 wks lol now that’s a FIGHTER’Posted September 23, 2012 12:41 pm
Broner is great, but don’t be fooled that Golden Boy hasn’t protected brush boy. Unless he gets to stuff a brush into each gloves, theres no way Burns wouldnt outpoint him provided de la pantyhose didn’t buy the judges.Posted September 23, 2012 12:33 pm
ean really, how do you’s expect Harrison to look?? lets get real, it’ll take time. Nobody can come back and look great after that kinda layoffPosted September 23, 2012 12:29 pm
Lol ffs guys lets give harrison half a doxen fights to try shake the rust n smell o the jail. Thats why most are posting on here n not competing for sheet…. Bad negitive attitudesPosted September 23, 2012 12:24 pm
If I were Burns or Warren I wouldn’t fight Broner either. Broner comes in overweight on purpose, gets gift decisions even when he loses (i.e., against Ponce De Leon). Who wants to go up against that? If Broner were offered the fight in neutral territory with all neutral officials I’m sure he’d turn it down because it won’t make “business sense.”Posted September 23, 2012 11:29 am
Only problem would be that Burns management wont ever take the fight. If he becomes mandatory they’ll run to the next division AGAIN! He’s number 4 in the division people, don’t get carried away.
Vazquez, Broner and DeMarco are all ahead of him. He needs to fight one of those three next to move up a level. I doubt they’d come to Glasgow, and as Ricky can’t cross international borders, we do have a problem.Posted September 23, 2012 11:27 am
it would be Ricky Burns dishing out “the problem” to broner.Posted September 23, 2012 11:09 am
Mitchell should consider a move back down to super feather where he would be a force to be reckoned with, he is just too small for lightweight.Posted September 23, 2012 11:06 am
I’m just stating a fact. Broner was the mandatory and Burns chose to move up in weight. Will be interesting to see if Burns wants any part of Broner now… He has avoided him once and that is a fact, he gave up his world title to do it. Beating Mitchell is no great feat.
If you want to talk about padded record, check Boxrec for Burns first 24 fights. Lot of red on the resume… Lot of red. He fought a guy who lost 117 out of 135 fights in his 17th pro fight. Broner fought the current WBC featherweight champion in his.Posted September 23, 2012 10:51 am
correct bro Harrison looked nothing like the clinical boxer/puncher that he used to do.Posted September 23, 2012 10:05 am
Great performance ricky. Really wasnt expecting a finish like that. Shows you how much rickys stock is rising. Used to come on here and thered be maybe 5 comments after a burns fight lol. If broner wants to come up in weight burns will be ready for him. None of this bs fighting in the states. He wants the belt – he fights in glasgow.ihope u were there del g. 50 quid for a cheap seat was too much for me mate. Although i forgot my username and password to boxnation and paid 40 in total for 4 rounds lol.Posted September 23, 2012 8:09 am
Burns has already moved up a division to avoid Broner once. Warren will have him do it again should the fight look likely. I believe Broner was his mandadory for the WBO Superfeather Weight title… Burns wants no part of Broner.Posted September 23, 2012 7:34 am
Great fight burns,Both fighters are true gents.Mitchell needs a few easy fights to build him up again as for Burns he wants the ring belt frank Warren needs to get it him as he’s getting better and better and so dam strong.Posted September 23, 2012 7:12 am
No way does Harrison deserve it! Burns needs to move forward now & that mean unification if he’s to be #1 in the World @ 135Lb :!:Posted September 23, 2012 6:41 am
Being an old Scot Harrison fight … id like Burns-v-Harrison. An all scottish title fight would be fun. Great atmosphere too.Posted September 23, 2012 6:28 am
I thought it would be much closer. Burns’ stock just keeps rising and rising. Time for him to be rewarded with a unification clash …. or just a big fight in Vegas. A pleasant scotsman who can fight amongst the best of the division …. America might take to him.Posted September 23, 2012 6:27 am
That’s funny because Mitchells trainers Jimmy and Mark Tibbs reckon he was in the best shape of his life, no excuses.Posted September 23, 2012 5:43 am
Great win for Ricky! I suspected he might try to follow the Katsidis blueprint and pile on the pressure until Mitchell wilts. Anyway, Mitchell is overrated by others and himself – an unprofessional lazy bas**d that doesn’t put the work in during training and expects everything to be handed to him on a plate. I hear he was training down at the pub 3 weeks before the fight!Posted September 23, 2012 5:38 am
Having watched Scott Harrison last night, i think we can safely say he isnt half as good as he was before he went to jail. 7 years is a long time. He looked like he forgot how to close the distance and cut off the ring. His defence was never great, but last night it was allmost non-existant. He looks like he has a long long way to go to even get to european level, and unfortunately for him, time isnt on his side. At 35 years old he doesnt have much time left. His dreams of fighting Ricky Burns in december are diluded. I firmly beleive he thinks he is still world level, but last nights performance sais otherwise. His dad knows the score. Frank warren surely wont throw him in against Burns as a sacrificial lamb. Burns vs Harrison would sell tickets in thousands in Glasgow, but it would be the mismatch of the century. I was a big fan of the doggid harrison in his day, but any top 10/15 lightweight in britain would beat him now. Sorry Scott, it breaks my heart but you have had your dayPosted September 23, 2012 5:20 am
No disrespect to the guy, but he (demarco) aint on burns or broners or vazquez level.Posted September 23, 2012 5:06 am
broner still has to beat De Marco to confirm that bro, De Marco no mug.Posted September 23, 2012 4:36 am
eh non title fight? lol dont think so bud.Posted September 23, 2012 4:35 am
Good, he beat the BEST Mitchell there could have been, well done so there’s no excuses, go on the Rickster!!!.Posted September 23, 2012 4:33 am
Off subject: R.I.P. Corrie Sanders!Posted September 23, 2012 4:30 am
Mitchell is the latest in a long line of good fighters Burns has dispatched. Hes now confirmed as the best lightweight in the country. Who in europe can beat him? No-one i can think of. Broner, vasquez, Burns, and demarco make up the top 4 lightweights in the world. Vaquez is proven, although he has had a couple losses, and a few bad performances. Demarco has done next to nothing, and he has struggled in every one of the 7 or 8 fights ive seen him in, and he has a few questionable decisions. Broner is living in the shadow of mayweather, and he is in no hurry to step out of it. He cant even make lightweight, so shouldnt be ranked. That asside, he is a good fighter, but limmited by his desire to fight like a slower, less ring savvy version of lil Floyd. Burns has beaten 5 or 6 world champions, hes getting better in every fight, his jab is sharp, stiff and quick. The right hand is a brand new weapon for him. My only criticism of Ricky was his lack of power, but as of last night i cant find fault with him.Posted September 23, 2012 4:17 am
If Burns is unproven then what is Broner?
read it again yeah my bad  still wouldnt be getting to excited over rickys win over mitchell just yet sure he looked great in beating kevin bonner is a douche bag thats for sure hopefully these two get matched up real soon … :?:Posted September 23, 2012 3:36 am
Hookoffhejab you’re a bellendPosted September 23, 2012 3:12 am
Well said :)Posted September 23, 2012 3:10 am
Unification & the Ring Magazine belt are the only way forward now for Ricky Burns. It would be a travesty & an insult to every boxing fan in the World & Ricky himself if the WBO were to sanction a Burns/Harrison bout. A match up with WBC champion Antonio DeMarco would be Rickster’s best option if the politics can be sorted out. If he’s training in Vegas, what’s to stop him taking an 8 round non title fight while he’s out there, if only to get his name banded about?Posted September 23, 2012 3:09 am
Ive been telling anyone on here for the past 4 years how far Ricky could go and was met with “Ricky who ” by many……..well next spring he will probably hit the US and do a number on De Marcus , Vasquez or anyone else….as Mitchel says “Rickys underrated, hes good in every department” Ricky thrives on that ( he told me himself )………and well done to Billy Nelson again. You both done Scotland proud.Posted September 23, 2012 1:52 am
Congrats to Ricky. Hopefully Warren doesn’t waste his career with bums and actually gets Burns some top ten Lightweights.Posted September 23, 2012 1:37 am
KnobPosted September 22, 2012 11:47 pm
Burns will beat Broner, Broner is hype.Posted September 22, 2012 11:37 pm
Don’t know if I’d be putting Burns ahead of Froch just yet in the Brit P4P.Posted September 22, 2012 11:12 pm
Hahaha tried to tell ya. Mitchell is deluded by his own hype machine. Although I wasn’t expecting that sort of finish so soon. What are the excuses this time Mitchell?Posted September 22, 2012 11:07 pm
@hookoffthejab He didn´t mention Ricky´s name in the same sentence as Mayweather you moron. I think you´ll only find Broners name in that sentence.Posted September 22, 2012 10:18 pm
Pacquiao Mayweather, help!!Posted September 22, 2012 9:25 pm
WTG Ricky!Posted September 22, 2012 8:53 pm
i liked the price, now i like burns! very happy i didn’t chunk too much on mitchell. bring on broner!Posted September 22, 2012 8:53 pm
first off daly kevin isnt even close to being a world class opponent this fight shouldve taken place well before katsidis got his mitts on kevin and dont even start putting rickys name in the same sentence with junior mayweather ricky is not even in the same ball park and ricky is the one who is unproven beating kevin mitchell like the way he did is great but not that much that you would get excited about :idea:Posted September 22, 2012 8:28 pm
Nice to see you pal!
With every fight, I like Burns more and more and he seems, like you say “well grounded”.
Gotta slip out now, but I’ll be back!Posted September 22, 2012 7:59 pm
Deano… I think Burns has matured nicely. Hes now fighting with mans strenghth. Dont forget the physical advantages he has as well, hes a big strong lad nowPosted September 22, 2012 7:52 pm
When I saw Ricky Burns lose to Alex Arthur years ago I never thought he would be capable of beating the likes of Martinez, Katsidas and Mitchell…How wrong was I. Ricky Burns is without a doubt now the number 1 British boxer at the moment. What I like most about Ricky is that he doesn’t even look like a tough guy. He is also a really nice, respectful and intelligent guy….BrilliantPosted September 22, 2012 7:36 pm
lefhook – Spot on. Everytime Burns faces a pressure fighter (like Katsidis) I expect him to get walked down like in the Johanssen fight. He’s really come a long way since then, both mentally and physically. I’m really looking forward to the big fights to come.Posted September 22, 2012 7:31 pm
right hook to the body
Frank warren will never match a world class fighter will let burn defend his title in europe just like most of his fighter didPosted September 22, 2012 7:15 pm
I’m amazed Mitchell didn’t hold on for last 10 seconds of the round – a real rookie mistake by an experienced fighter. Ricky’s a gr8 lad though and deserves all of his success – he also deserves a day off work tomorrow.Posted September 22, 2012 7:10 pm
Pans- Broner would get a nasty surprise just like Mitchell did.Posted September 22, 2012 7:07 pm
Burns need to fight a world class fighter mitchell is a domestic level fighter this is just another frank warren match making Burns is good but frank warren wll ruin his career by feeding him with euro bumsPosted September 22, 2012 7:06 pm
Burns has had tremendous grounding, dont forget the losses early doors v Arthur and Johansen i think it was. He was really just a skinny kid then, but what valuble experiance. This is what happens when a guy is brought along properly.Posted September 22, 2012 6:57 pm
Oh dear Dara – if you’re going to try and mock, at least try and get the right country. Back to remedial class…Posted September 22, 2012 6:48 pm
HH. You’re gona have to start lisning to me m8. lol Hows things ?Posted September 22, 2012 6:44 pm
Maybe after he wins and defends the world title like maybe 10 times. LOL hold on the battle of London means you make the P4P list. OKPosted September 22, 2012 6:41 pm
Let’s get some perspective guys. It’s not surprising that Burns won (Mitchell is domestic level after all). What was surprising was that he won by KO, having said that Mitchell’s chin was already badly exposed in the Katsidis fight, he also looked terrible in his last fight against that tomato can Felix Lora.Posted September 22, 2012 6:29 pm
@Popkins. Broner would destroy Burns. No way in hell Fwank lets that fight happen.Posted September 22, 2012 6:24 pm
P4P? lol good one. P4P paper champions? Yes.Posted September 22, 2012 6:23 pm
Mitchell’s biggest wins are Breidis Prscott and John Murray. Warren was hyping this as a super-fight. :lol:Posted September 22, 2012 6:20 pm
i aint shocked ricky burn won but i didn think he do it in that fashion tho great performance i think the only fighters got a chance to beat broner is ricky burns and miguel vazquez at lightweight those two fighters going to be tough for anybody to deal withPosted September 22, 2012 6:18 pm
Yup, and if I remember rightly that fight was supposed to happen at superfeatherweight before both men outgrew the limit. Burns looks massive at lightweight now.Posted September 22, 2012 6:10 pm
Mitchell was ranked no.4 by Ring mag – demolished.Posted September 22, 2012 6:07 pm
Yeah, the left hook was an absolute beauty especially after showing and catching Mitchell with the right, it took Mitchell’s legs right out from him, and he closed it out in great style.Posted September 22, 2012 6:06 pm
At lightweight Ricky will give ANYONE a tough fight…even Broner!Posted September 22, 2012 6:06 pm
Top-drawer display from Ricky, he just gets better and better, must be pushing P4P lists now.
He looked so strong in there tonight, Mitchell was outclassed.Posted September 22, 2012 6:04 pm
Burns looked awesome. A peach of a punch for the first knockdown. Would love Ricky to win the Ring belt now. Unification would be good too.Posted September 22, 2012 6:04 pm
Great fight by Burns. He was rightly the favourite, but I never thought he’d stop Mitchell so easily. Broner next? Or Rees in another great domestic fight.Posted September 22, 2012 6:03 pm
