Mayweather deserves a tune up fight, or a payday fighting garbage Khan.

TARK, please can you tell us who these great boxers of a RIGONDEAUX calibre are circa 1990’s to present day? Would be interesting to see who you rate as a GREAT boxer.
You can limit the choices from 130 to 154.

Posted October 6, 2013 10:51 am

SREDMOND…, YOU make the dumbest statements on ESB..

Such as, “Floyd will shred, paint, smoke, and KO Canelo.” .. “Peterson will outbox Matthysse. This is going to be fun.” … “Matthysse will KO Garcia” … and other stupid crap you come out with.

Posted October 6, 2013 4:09 am

So if it’s that easy for Mouthy why doesn’t he challenge Golovkin to fight him at 154lbs. If as you say Mouthy pulls in all these big audiences it shouldn’t matter who he fights, the hoards will pay and Mouthy will make loads of money, so what you’re saying is tosh.
Easiest of nights for Gennady, against a guy that can’t hurt him, it would be Floyds last foray into the light middle weights.
Money in the bank should it ever happen.
In addition do you honestly think that should Golovkin knock out, Canello, Murray, Geale and Sturm that it would put him nearer to a fight with Mouthy, I don’t think so, if anything he would be farther from it.
Stevens has a better chance of winning than Mouthy, at least Stevens has a big punch.

Posted October 5, 2013 9:52 pm

Tark, you EASILY make some of the DUMBEST statements in ESB… All fighters have “flaws” and because a boxer is an ATG it does NOT make him flawless you fool…Fact is Mayweather is always taking a risk getting in the ring, anyone can get hit with the right shot and “”POOF”” the “0” is gone… The fact he’s avoided that is to his credit…
Mayweathers legacy is rock solid if he retires today PERIOD

Posted October 5, 2013 9:50 pm

Bulwinkle YOU SAID that there are a bunch of fighters “who admitted they were scared of Golovkin” AGAIN I ask who are they? As for Mayweather he has NEVER FOUGHT A MW in his 17 years of boxing…Was he avoiding Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlik too? Your claim is WEAK because GGG is simply not a natural Floyd Mayweather opponent in ANY LEVEL… He’s not accomplished, hes NOT in his division and he brings NO $$$$$$ to the table…GGG is NOT anyone to avoid anymore than Martin Murrau for Floyd they are in different divisions… You’re letting those KO’s and false hyperbole get you confused…

Posted October 5, 2013 9:46 pm

Bulwinke, Mayweather is the highest paid boxer in history he’s NOT gonna fight a no name HBO hype job in a foreign country that’s insane… LMAO!!! Where is the data for the massive arenas and PPV sales GGG has produced??? You have none!! Floyd would pay this fighter out of petty cash and he would take his loss at the MGM Grand just as all subordinate fighters must do when facing the boss… Floyd go to Kahzigstan or Siberia to fight a guy like Golovkin ??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Posted October 5, 2013 9:20 pm

Fritz, Mayweather did NOT win 1 lineal Championship he won 4 so discussing him in light of Spinks and Baldomir is mindless and desperate…Such achievements are historically noteworthy I would expect you to minimize because your arguments dead

Posted October 5, 2013 9:15 pm

I suppose people will say Pacquiao is an ATG whether Floyd beats him or not… So depite all of Pacquiao’s losses — that fight is important.

Posted October 5, 2013 9:07 pm

Hatton??? Ricky was an easy opponent for Floyd… Hatton was damned near knocked out by light hitting Luis Collazo, who lost every round to Shane Mosley… Hatton got a gift decision over Collazo, and was beaten to trash… His face looked like a pizza… Pacquiao knocked Hatton dead in 2 without even trying.

Floyd has yet to face a boxer the caliber of Guillermo Rigondeaux… Mikey Garcia… Grennady Golovkin… or Sergei Kovalev… Floyd has been lucky. There’s never been an outstanding boxer in any weight division at the time Floyd was fighting there.

Danny Garcia… Lucas Matthysse… Devon Alexander… Amir Khan… Manny Pacquiao… Brandon Rios… Mike Alvarado… Tim Bradley… Ruslan Provodnikov … and all the other boxers Floyd might meet to finish off his career … all of these guys have weaknesses or flaws…

So anybody Floyd is likely to meet from now on isn’t likely to become that ATG opponent Floyd needs for his legacy.

Posted October 5, 2013 9:02 pm

Whose admitted that they are scared of Golovkin, you really have got to read my posts, they don’t get scared until about a minute into the second round, a GGG quote.
So where are all these grade A fighters that can’t wait to take him on, there aren’t any, because they all know they have no chance against this dude. Mayweather isn’t going anywhere near this guy, he knows this guy shreds him and without too many problems. Martinez don’t make me laugh, reasonable champ in his day but a couple of levels below GGG, he’s not fighting bums because he wants to, he’s fighting them because he has to, he fights four or five times a year, who else does that.
So in your estimation who can fight him, certainly not Mouthy Mayweather, cluck cluck, and that’s before the second round.
There’s no shame in knowing ones limitations, I would guess Mayweather knows his, Golovkin is far too good for him!

Posted October 5, 2013 5:55 pm

There’s a whole World outside America, Golovkin could take on Mayweather in dozens of Countrys and sell out, so stop all that nonsense about he’s not known in America, he’s known alright, by boxing people not some muppet that thinks he knows boxing.

Posted October 5, 2013 5:45 pm

Redmond is English your first language?, because I distinctly said ” Not so good at 147 ” 140 was his weight. Get it!

Posted October 5, 2013 5:36 pm

Baldomir and Cory Spinks won lineal titles but so what? RJJ never won a lineal title because he nor anyone but flomos care about the hype

Promoters are saying that their fighters are not ready for Golovkin and he has called out everyone of any repute in his weights

Posted October 5, 2013 5:30 pm

Golovkin would do better to focus his energies on facing guys in the appropriate weight classes instead of chasing a soon to be WW ATG who barely knows he exists (just like the rest of America)…Sooner or later GGG is gonna have to take responsibility for his career and stop trying to build a name off of Floyd Mayweather 2 divisions below… Garcia is gonna be spending the funds that GGG so badly wants in his pocket…

Posted October 5, 2013 3:31 pm

Mayweather won 4 lineal Championships he has ALREADY DEFEATED FAR more accomplished boxers than GGG who’s a fractional beltholder in a division that’s too big for Floyd.. Canelo Alvarez is MORE decorated than Golovkin, when did GGG unify 160??? Or get the Ring Belt?? NEVER mans best win was Macklin who had been booking some recent losses only winning against lightly regarded Alcine…Canelo took on a solid boxer like Trout who upset Cotto… GGG is NOT fooling serious boxing fans who KNOW who Rosado, Ouma, Ishida and now Stevens are… His world class resume is GROSSLY deficient, until then he’s another false boogey man

Posted October 5, 2013 3:15 pm

Who has “admitted they are afraid of GGG” this is just MORE “Boogeyman” hype well why not move up to 168 if he can’t chase smaller boxers at 154 or get a respectable opponent at 160? Floyd Mayweather went from 130 to 154 without the benefit of a BIG punch what’s GGG’s excuse for not climbing that scale? He has NONE mans just padding his resume looking for a freebie he’s NEVER getting against a WW…

Posted October 5, 2013 2:58 pm

Bulwinkle, “you say Hatton was not that good” he was an undefeated 2 Weight Champion with over 40 wins, he was lineal Champ at 140… Your GGG interview is NOT compelling NONE of Golovklins opponents accomplished anything close to what Hatton did and NEITHER has GGG… You give Hatton a pass for moving up ONE weight class but you are about to applaud GGG for being a 160 pounder chasing a former 130 pounder, you are BADLY contradicting yourself and showing BIAS…

Posted October 5, 2013 2:55 pm

Posted October 5, 2013 2:51 pm

Fritz you’re making a TON of excuses for Matthysee losing Garcia blew his eye up like a balloon, threw the combos and DECKED him.. Ricky Hatton was OUTCLASSED by Mayweather and you could have put all 30,000 of his countrymen singing “One Ricky Hatton” in that ring and he was gonna get knocked out by Mayweather who put on a clinic during the final 3 rounds of abuse the affable Hatton…LOL

Posted October 5, 2013 2:38 pm

Q, Gennady do you ever see fear in your opponents eyes?
A, Not before the fight, about midway through the second round I see it.
Come on Floyd get in there with this guy, show him what a real boxers all about, he’s just hype, can’t punch, limited skills, lousy balance he’s made for you with your far superior skills, kidding.
Mouthy would beat him over a hundred yard sprint, but that’s about it.
Hatton wasn’t that good at 147.

Posted October 5, 2013 1:53 pm

Likewise, the hype machine went on and on about Canelo being the best 154 guy and was the lineal champ bla bla bla but his titles were via vacant gifts. The WBC title was vacant and won from Hatton. Trout’s WBA was a vacant won from Canelo’s brother. Lets see Trout and Canelo fight somebody good in their prime. Other words its just more planned in advance hype while the best linger in the dark.

Posted October 5, 2013 1:26 pm

Hatton was good at 140 but got gifts at 147 like vacant titles and a decision but then Cortez made him pay when he fought the Golden Boys goose-Money May

Likewise Golden Boy/Al Haymon are setting Garcia up for Floyd as we speak. Just as they rigged multiple the blood tests via their buddy Travis Tygart of USADA, they also rigged the rematch clause, the judges, and who knows what else against Matthysse. I gave Garcia rounds 4,7,8,9, & 11 and theknock down occurred because Matthysse was thrown by the back of the head into the ropes were he got tangled and smashed. That round should have went to Mathysse. Garcia was also allowed multiple low blows.

When Floyd moves up and fights a real live contender like GGG then we can say he is an ATG at it but so far he just facing over the hills and hype jobs.

GGG aint getting fights at 154 or 160, etc.. because everyone is “admittedly” afraid of him

Posted October 5, 2013 1:08 pm

Garcia and Matthysee are NOT fighting a rematch at this point that would be FOOLISH for Garcia who CLEARLY won, hes the likely frontrunner for a Mayweather bout no need to waste that opportunity facing Matthysee again at this point… I had slated Lucas for the win but Garcia proved the better fighter that night… Garcia needs to get ready for a Mayweather bout, he was on the undercard, hes undefeated, young and hungry…. He proved himself the MAN at 140, why not cash in on that….

Posted October 5, 2013 12:08 pm

Fritz you say “GGG” is the guy to beat at 154….. REALLY????? How many victories does he HAVE at 154? how can you “be the man to beat” when you don’t even fight in that weight class? Thats like saying Maywather is the guy to beat at 160 when he has NOT had a single bout in that division… Molina? you gotta be kidding me he is a HARDLUCK case with 0 fan appeal who is coming off an UGLY win against Ishe Smith…. Where is the line of people wanting to see that? Vanes? man please the ONLY credible big name opponents at 154 to beat were already DEFEATED by Floyd Mayweather! Mayweather handed Cotto and Canelo their FIRST losses at 154, took their belts and cashed those FATTTTTTTTT!!! Checks these second tier JR MW’s have NO shot at the King he ONLY fights BIG bouts above 147 ie Cotto, Oscar and Canelo all historic PPV’s and two guys who are bonafide HOFers with a combined 9 divisions of Titles…. Vanes??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Posted October 5, 2013 11:55 am

Fritz, Hatton was NOT “terrible” he had tough moments in plenty of fights due to his style but NOT until he got in the ring with Floyd Mayweather was he BLOWN out and KNOCKED out…. Since you are NOT a fan of guys moving up unless they look their best then you MUST not wanna see FMJ fight above his now best weight of 147 correct? remember 2 of his toughest bouts were against Cotto and Oscar where he did not even touch the limit on fight night?? Surely you agree with this? Reality is that you are NOW monday morning quarterbacking Hattons beatdown would you extend Mayweather the SAME courtesy if he booked a loss AFTER moving up a 5th or 6th weight class as opposed to the ONE that Hatton moved up??? Excuses Excuses…

Posted October 5, 2013 11:50 am

Fritz, excellent points but Mayweather actually experienced more growth than Pacquiao

Posted October 5, 2013 11:30 am

GGG, Molina, Lara, Angulo, Martyroisian, etc are the dudes to beat at 154

The winner of Marquez/Bradley at 147

The winner of a rematch between Matthysse and Garcia at 140

Posted October 5, 2013 11:26 am

The point is that Hatton was terrible when he moved up. Mayweather moved up in weight as much as Pacman and then accused this as proof of steroids.

If emotions were not an issue then fighters wouldnt often try to get under the other’s skin. Fact is, fight or flight emotions are a major part of boxing and PEDS

Posted October 5, 2013 11:19 am

Diego Corrales “emotions” are not worthy of discussion he was 33-0 with those “emotions” till h got in the ring with FMJ… Discussing a mans emotions as a valid reason for loss is a real sign of weakness… Fact is that Floyd was too fast, too accurate and too relentless that night… He’s the same boss he always has been in the ring..

Posted October 5, 2013 10:59 am

So what Hatton came from 140? Mayweather started at 130 or are you saying that Floyd is the only fighter who can move up divisions? Duran came from 135 and Hearns and Leonard both have victories over him 147 and above they are credited with…Mayweather is a small WW, being ignorant of Floyd’s history is NOT a defense he was spotting Castillo 9 pounds back at 135… Ricky Hatton got boxed senseless and his 0 taken with a depressing TKO loss… Again guys are not smart enough to accept the current politics between GBP and Top Rank, it’s a REAL blood feud that’s gonna deny us a SLEW of bouts ie Mares vs Donaire and others..Pacquioas one trip to Showtime means what? Reality is that there is NO WAY Mayweathers fighting on HBO with that contract so about 12 things would have to change before a bout could even be seriously considered starting with Pacquiao winning impressively…

Posted October 5, 2013 10:57 am

Everyone KNOWS that Manny Pacquiao cannot just “make” a big fight, Bob Arum controls things too to bottom or the most part… The only way Mayweather vs PAC likely occurs is if either Manny leaves Top Rank or Bob Arum dies… GBP and Top Rank are NOT working in any bouts and there have been NO EXCEPTIONS AS of late… We now have the further issue of the two boxers being on competing networks (Showtime vs HBO) now I know you guys have NEVER worked in business but these are MAJOR bones of contention that can’t be solved over a game of cards or with the snap of a finger… Besides Pacquiao needs to look impressive to even make the discussion relevant…

Posted October 5, 2013 7:51 am

Old Coot, says Floyd avoided “undefeated threats” reality is that most fighters are “defeated” by the time they are considered “great” How many “Undefeated Threats” did Marvin Hagler defeat? Mayweather is beating Undefeated guys with multiple belts who are 13 years younger, he took out Corrales when he was considered a big deal and a big undefeated puncher, he took Hattons “0” again this is just another arbitrary metric created… Right now the sport of boxing ONLY has 2 Undefeated, Elite fighters Mayweather and Ward everyone else at the confirmed elite level has LOST…How many Undefeated “Elite” threats did Tommy Hearns defeat? I kNow the Undefeated Boxers Floyd took out are not gonna be good enough for Mayweather detractors but this is not an exercise in appeasement merely pointing out the Cold Truth… How many Undefeated threats did Ray, Duran, Hearns, or Hagler defeat after the age of 35?? We just saw Floyd unify the 154 pound division and become lineal at 36… Floyd Mayweathers a BEAST, simply one of the illest to ever do it…

Like Anonymous said… The inescapable truth is that Fraud Maynever, fight Pacquiao. Which ALL involved in boxing on any level will see big ass asterisk* by Fraud’s rather cherry-picked zero. As in he dodged all the undefeated threats until they had losses and most importantly he, *”Never fought Pacquiao!” And truth be told Floyd already lost but was gifted the first Castillo bout by Vegas judges… And who knows? He might’ve ended up with a 2 in the loss column, had he not sucker-punched Ortiz to end it when Ortiz was doing well (other than the headbutts, that is), and then Fraud refused to be fair and give the kid a re-match. Which he STILL should do to prove he deserved that win.

@ Boxtradumbutt: The one who parrots nearly verbatim the same useless and WRONG statement all day everyday for going on like 6 years!! Tell me this… Because something just don’t add up… If Floyd is such a defensive genius, and is not scared of the Pacman, then why would he still need to demand Manny take more than the standard drug tests? After all Floyd said quote, “Pacquiao is a has been.” and “He’s a washed up fighter”, So that begs the observation that Manny himself maid… He said on ESPN, quote- “If I am a has-been, and I am washed up, then I should be an easy fight… Right?”… Well?… RIGHT Floyd?!

Sorry ESB Lames Golovkins not even a consideration the 2 are 2 weight classes apart… Golovkin is NOT the best guy in his own weight class, and at the age of 37 Mayweather does NOT need to move up for a 6th time ESPECIALLLY to fight a guy too scared to move up ONCE… Compared to Floyd Mayweather Golovkin is frankly a TERRIBLE boxer not remotely in Floyd’s class… But his size and strength advantages give him a punchers chance that’s NOT justification for a bout… Martin Murray has the SAME punchers chance against a WW…if GGG’s career ended today he would be forgotten QUICK!!! This is NOT Bernard Hopkins, Marvin Hagler, Monzon or even Martinez at MW, this is a guy with a HEAVILY padded resume pretending he’s a 154 pounder on paper when ALL his 27 soft touches absent a dented Macklin occurred at 160…. It’s time GGG faced and defeated a REAL threat at 160-168 lest you BUMS discuss him amateur career till hell freezes over…

Posted October 4, 2013 11:13 pm

How does Mayweather’s cherry taste? Do you like it? Keep going down on him.

Posted October 4, 2013 11:12 pm

Manny got sent to the MINOR Leagues. Now IF he can hit a HOMERUN we might call him back UP. But hitting a MINOR league HOMERUN does not catapult you into the World Series of Boxing vs. Mayweather. And IF it does you’ll get BLOWN OUT. Alvarez, Guerrero, and Ortiz ALL agree with ME on that.

Posted October 4, 2013 10:54 pm

Tell Manny to come back to the Big Leagues. Beating #0 P4P NON CHAMPS is not impressive to US. That’s called Lucian BUTE-ISM. And its also called Arthur Abraham-ISM

Posted October 4, 2013 10:50 pm

Mayweather’s legacy is as a Cherry MAKING artist WHO has mastered the art of Boxing. He was the First man in History to Defeat 10 CHAMPS in 12 Consecutive Fights. And he was also the First man to defeat 5 Top 10 P4P opponents in 7 consecutive Fights. WOW!!!! He is also one of the only 2 men to defeat 20 straight HOT Fighters WHO WON at least 4 of their last 6 coming INTO the Fight. SRR had 5 times as many bouts and couldn’t accomplish what Floyd DID in 1/5th of time. WOW!!!! He’s more than 5 times more productive than Robinson!!!!! That’s called QUALITY over QUANTITY……Floyd is the GOAT. Bradley has a chance vs. Marquez because Marquez is GREAT. But he has no chance vs. Floyd because Floyd is the GOAT. Everything that Bradley does Floyd does it BETTER. That’s why no one is clamoring for that……..Hard core fans can clamor for Golovkin all they want but the FACT is that Martinez is the lineal CHAMP, rated #1 at MW, and he’s on the Top 10 P4P list . Golovkin is NOT. SO Floyd would be more apt to face Martinez than Golovkin because that bout brings more PRESTIGE…….Defeating the lineal MW CHAMP at MW which is 154.1 or higher gives Floyd a title in a 6th weight class. WOW!!! That’s called being SKILLED to the BONE. And THAT is Floyd’s legacy.

Posted October 4, 2013 10:48 pm

Old Coot

Just wait and see what happens with Pacquiao VS Rios, the Money VS Pacman talk will strike up again. However it won’t matter if Pacquiao barely wins, but especially if he wins convincingly, we can YET AGAIN, expect Floyd to demand more unconventional drug tests, although he didn’t against someone as big as Alvarez.

Which begs the question… Why on Earth, would a defensive genius like Floyd, still need to demand Manny, a “has been”/”washed up fighter”? (Floyd’s words) take more than the standard drug tests? As Manny himself said… “I should be an easy fight… Right?”… Fight him straight up FLOYD!

Posted October 4, 2013 10:34 pm

Fraud Mayweather’s legacy is as a cherrypicking con-man who fooled all is fans into thinking he’s great by avoiding all the dangerous fighters who could beat him and only taking fights where the odds were heavily stacked in his favour. He’s not a great champion and never will be, he has run away from every dangerous opponent he could in his bogus career. And the best part is his fans still can’t see it. Ha! Watch him continue to pick fights he can win to pad his bogus record even more. Khan, Garcia, Manny, Alexander, line’em up for Fraud Mayweather the best con man in boxing.

Keep running from Golovkin, Fraud Mayweather, keep running from Golovkin.

Posted October 4, 2013 10:02 pm

There’s no mystery to Floyd’s next opponent… It’s Danny Garcia.

Danny will do well… He’ll do much better financially against Floyd than Edwin Rodriguez will do vs Ward.

And much better financially than Andre Ward will do for that matter.

Posted October 4, 2013 8:37 pm

The Prince

Floyd doesn’t NEED to fight anybody anymore. His legacy is secured. GGG, Khan, and anyone else who wants to win the Mayweather sweepstakes, needs to earn it. GGG is just another name detractors are throwing out there to try and discredit Floyd’s legacy. The fools don’t realize they’re actually making the case better than any so call Flomo could. After all, only a great fight get demanded by critics to fight opponents two or three weight classes above their division. No other ATG has critics DEMANDING a WW fight a MW in order to prove themselves, especially after that WW defeated the divisions top JMW, who they also demanded the WW fight. No other ATG constantly had the goalpost moved by critics whom can’t stand that after majority of his career and being on top, he’s still undefeated. Canelo was “The One” remember critics? What happened? Wasn’t Floyd suppose to finally get credit if he didn’t “duck” Canelo. Wasn’t these same critics claiming that Floyd was afraid to fight him, even at a catchweight? Now these same critics are saying the same nonsense about this GGG character. while claiming Canelo was cherrypicked by Floyd. lol… I’m still waiting for Froch, or Ward’s name to be thrown out next.

Sure he deserves a shot at Mouthy, why not he’s the only one around who does. Read my post Redmond, it won’t happen, Mayweather can talk all he wants but he won’t be fighting GGG, not because in his eyes he doesn’t deserve a shot or a big payday, but because it’s a fight that can only end badly for Mouthy, very badly, I’ll say it again Mayweather cannot fight Gennady he would be beaten badly.
Most boxing officianados know this, unfortunately so does Mouthy.

RTV: Does Golovkin punch that hard?

Gabriel Rosado: He’s a great puncher. I went into that fight thinking he’s going to have to kill me to beat me. It was definitely war. I had that mentality I was going to go all out. He had to kill me to beat me. I thought if it wasn’t for the cut, that I could have fought my fight. Golovkin is a good puncher, but I wasn’t going to go anywhere. I don’t think he’s overrated. There’s no one at 160 that’s going to beat that guy. Golovkin is as good as they say he is.

If GGG is such a box office dynamo lets see him do 350,000 WITHOUT Mayweather LMAO!! I remember Vitali doing a paltry 100k or so AFTER Lewis because he does NOT have an established US fan base willing to pay…What arena has GGG sold out? If he brings such $$$$ to the table then why no fights at 160 where guys wanna get paid (dullards will say everyone’s avoiding him) truth is he does NOT offer a compelling financial proposition.. He’s NO DIFFERENT than any other boxer chasing the “Mayweather Lotto ticket” ….. Truth is GGG is a tough MW who is known to the hardcore but he’s NOT ANYTHING close to a star and if he keeps fighting this caliber of opposition and chasing WW’s he’s NEVER gonna make a splash.. Our HW Champ has been reigning for YEARS and has NOT developed a PAYING US fan base….GGG is a fantasy you clowns have in your head, he’s NOT A Star and he’s NEVER gonna face Mayweather who ONLY fights BIG bouts above 147…. Hard Facts

Posted October 4, 2013 6:06 pm

Mayweather vs Golovkin would NOT shatter a SINGLE Record… Every fighter FMJ had a huge haul with had already show some box office or ticket selling BANG… Cotto has been the #3 guy on PPV for a min, Oscar was the cash cow and Canelo had done 40,000 tickets in Texas, and his popularity in Mexico was confirmed… GGG is a box offices NOBODY, the guy has NOT fought a big name fighter and he has NOT been showcased on a PPV card… If a piano fell on his head we would STILL
have the proven top MW fighter in the world fighting… Absent Mayweather or maybe Canelo GGG is NEVER getting on PPV… Martinez could not get on PPV absent Chavez Jr, and absent a rematch, fight with FMJ or possibly Canelo he ain’t getting back there…GGG is facing no name opponents his brand is NOT growing, his current choice does 0000000 to raise his profile and he does NOT fight in a relevant division… He’s a very tough and powerful MW but his few fans on these boards are turning him into a SAD FMJ jock rider, ready to cut off his leg for the paycheck and to be badly outspeed by the Grandmaster…If GGG is gonna make something happen it will be at 160-168 if not he will keep beating up SUPER weak comp and pretending he’s the Boss on Social Media…

Only Mayweather fans think he can beat Golovkin. Everyone else can see that Mayweather stands no chance. He would get knocked out. Mayweather is a chicken and the whole world can see it. Mayweather is a joke and the joke is on his own fans.

Posted October 4, 2013 5:17 pm

Mayweather doesn’t knock many out, but I reckon Khan would be.
Nice post Tark, I agree GGG and Mouthy would break the record for paying customers.
But it won’t happen, all those that think Golovkin won’t be able to lay a glove on him would be devestated and Mayweather knows this.
Another thing, he has I think four fights with Showtime left in his contract. If he’s going to fight Golovkin it will be his last fight for them.
They aren’t going to risk him getting messed up by GGG, his pay per view figures would take a dive.

Shouldn’t happen either. Khan doesn’t belong in the same ring as Mayweather. Not the biggest fan of FM but Khan isn’t a serious opponent for him.

Or is this a totally novel experience for you? You just woken up to the marvels of technology? Been living under a rock the past 20 years? Got your first PC and got yourself hooked up with a internet connection you cyber greenhorn? You wait till you discover Youtube kiddo. lmfao

FMJ is a brillant boxer and a well educated student of the sport. That said, he knows how to strategicly plan his opponents to assure his victories. Nothing wrong with that…I just don’t buy the fact that he’s the best p4p, based on the lack of risk factors that have made the greats of past. He has settled on a career of mediocrity, thus will always be considered, by hard core fans of boxing, as less than qualified as great.

Posted October 4, 2013 4:17 pm

Mayweather-Golovkin would shatter all PPV records but it won’t happen.

The reason it would break records is Golovkin is a far greater puncher than anyone Floyd ever faced… The excitement would build and explode because of GGG’s reputation for knocking fighters OUT.

No one believed me when I said Mayweather-Canelo would pull more revenues than any other fight in Fistic History — and I said that 18 months before the fight actually took place.. And it DID..

Obviously Mayweather was the logical choice to win that fight. But Golovkin would be the logical choice to beat Mayweather—although the odds wouldn’t reflect that.. Floyd would be favored if the fight were made, so it would be the perfect fight to mortgage your house and bet your life savings on.

However Floyd knows all this… His next opponent will be Danny Garcia, which will be a very hard fought and interesting fight in itself. Floyd will win, but he won’t escape unscathed — just like he didn’t escape unscathed vs Cotto … Floyd will get tagged with Danny’s left hook.

Hissydalgo says…”Well, we know for a fact Mayweather wouldn’t have fought Canelo without the catchweight”-Well we know for a FACT that the catchweight doesn’t guarantee the LOSS or else Hopkins would have LOST to De la Hoya when Oscar catchweighted him. Lack of SKILLS would guarantee the LOSS IF there wasn’t a thing called Boxing IQ or LUCK.

GGG has NO cache at the box office thats why he is fighting really non descript foes… Antonio Margarito had the SAME issue, he was a tough fighter but he had no HUGE fanbase.. Golovkin is NOT really popular among ANYONE absent a SMALL contingent of hardcore fans… Tomas Adamek has shown he can draw to some degree in New Jersey… Where is GGG packing them in? Lion King, Bears and a few ESB posters have NEVER seen GGG fight anyone live, I would LOVE to see proof of which posters on here have…I live near the Barclays Center and Garcia has done a couple of events there now, he has been on PPV during a title fight with the toughest out in his division and prevalied… He is HEAD and SHOULDERS above Golovkin as the next Mayweather opponent… GGG’s 11 fans confined largely to this thread DON’T have toe pull to get a fight going…. Move on with your lives Mayweather ONLY fights BIG bouts above 147 and GGG would be a TINY fight…

If only the so-called knowledgeable posters on this site could fight a lick. We would have wall to wall super fights for free. Let’s call it the KeyBoard Warriors championship tournament and stick in Hidalgo, Squared Circle, Tark, Death Star, Peej, Maracho and JWales as obviously these are the best pound for pound tappers on this site and would never ever duck a challenge. We could have a reserve list of challengers voted on by you, the people.
I remember reading some guy offered to meet Tark anywhere, anyplace for a punch-up (no knives, or guns), as long as he got paid his flight and travel expenses. I’m sure he offered Tetumbo to video the event and put it up here on ESB. Anyone able to name this guy as he can have the first shot at the Champion once we get this tourney underway. If ESB do indeed film it, I’m sure their hits would hit 6 figures and tickle their collective fancies. No doubt other sites will try and poach our star Keyboard Warriors, but ESB is the first and only site for Keyboard Warriors.

Mayweather has beat everyone, at this point anyone who says otherwise is simply a hater he is on another level above all the rest. Next biggest fights are Kahn if he wins and Garcia, both of which would be easy work for floyd, Manny shouldnt even be in the conversation at this point, Arum and Roach the joke chose Rios because is stands right in front and trades and Manny needs a good show because his last few fights have been garbage and they dont know how much he has left in him. Manny is a has been Arum talked all this crap and at the end of the day he never wanted to loose his cash cow. Thats why he would never let Cotto fight Floyd when he was with top rank. In the same way Bradley will never get a big fight with Floyd people talk all this scarred crap and dont know the politics in boxing. Opponets are often hand picked,

Dinamita says.., “Judah was undefeated when Tszyu iced him in a two.”

Tszyu never “iced” Judah… It was a legitimate stoppage call by referee Jay Nady … and showed how mentally unhinged Judah was at the time.

But Tszyu wasn’t undefeated when Hatton stopped him. Hatton couldn’t box … so that was really embarrassing. Tszyu was so shamed by that effort that he limped off into retirement at a younger age than Floyd is now.

“Khan does not deserve a shot and only cares about the pay day. This is disgusting.”

Why doesn’t Khan deserve a shot at Mayweather? He’s a former world champion. He’s currently a top-ranked contender. He’s also a big draw. What, you think Guerrero was more deserving than Khan? Ortiz? Floyd has said repeatedly that he’ll fight anyone if the money is right. The money will be “right” with Khan.

Squared circle it’s the Hispanic crowd largely Mexican, Puerto Ricans that bring money. That’s the reason Chavez can be indecisive about the weight limit, coz he can get away with it. Pavlik was the last hope which turned out to be all hype with a binge. Americans will accept you if you speak some English which Martinez & GGG don’t do well. You got your facts wrong when you think he is more popular in Asia than Europe and America. Plus the paying boxing is usually in America. I would like to see Mayweather duke it out with GGG. Its not about popularity at its about the skillset that Floyd has he is so quick and precise. GGG won’t touch Floyd, I’m convinced since his paps came back. He is invincible.

Posted October 4, 2013 9:55 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

GGG may be less popular than Garcia or Martinez among Latinos, but he is far more popular among whites, Asians and Europeans.

Try producing some legit stats and facts that prove your opinionated statements. 3G’s fanbase is BOWING UP with every fight he wins on HBO and his following is growing exponentially. Plus, he’s been fighting about every four months or so, NOT once a year.

3G’s fan-base will be just as big, if not bigger than, Garcia’s and Maravilla’s in no time. Martinez never has had a very big following in the U.S. And Garcia hasn’t had much of a following until the last year or so. The PR population and fan-base in the U.S. is really rather small. Real talk.

Why does Floyd not fight GGG @ MW no catchweight, then Ward @SMW, Bernard Hopkins @ LH and go back to WW and fight Pac, no tests, no catchweights just toe to toe until one hits the floor. This makes sense and he would be really TBE

Ward is too big for Floyd, but if they fight at 160, it would be great. I think Floyd and Ward should stay in there lane. Floyd whiqs Garcia or Triple and Martinez. Ward should whip triple or Kovalzv

Posted October 4, 2013 2:43 am

Golovkin wouldn’t even be able to touch Floyd in my estimation and would be punished & humiliated over 12 rounds, if Golvkin could actually go the distance with Floyd, which I don’t think he could. Floyd would counter-punch Pacquiao to death, figuratively speaking and stop him around round 11. I see Floyd beating Ward by decision- Floyd’s speed would be too much for Ward I think.

If Floyd could school Martinez he would’ve for the huge payday and the prestige of beating the lineal mw championship get real he’s worried about lil Pac so forget Martinez hed dominate Floyd as long as hes healthy.

Yeah that would be great, Floyd vs Triple getting a beat down at 160 same day weigh in. Floyd gives Gennady a brusin

Posted October 4, 2013 2:08 am

floyd should move up to 160 to fight the best competition at their preferred weight. There is nothing more to be done at 140-154 aside from possibly Pacquio. The only way Floyd gets to top p4p of all time iz if he starts taking these big chances. Besides if he loses at 160 against ggg or Maravilla it won’t diminish his career accomplishments a single bit. Hes so rich he really doesn’t need to be fighting the weak competition remaining at Wealter weight.

Posted October 4, 2013 2:00 am

The only credible fights for Mayweather are GGG (Floyd gets KO”D), Manny Pacquiao (Floyd gets stopped badly), Ward (Floyd takes a beating) and Martinez (Floyd stops Martinez). Bradley, Ped Man Marquez, Khan, Garcia and Alexander are all jokes. As usual, Floyd fights the heavier guys at catch weights, but still loses. GGG has the perfect style and would beat him the worst out of all of them. You can take the money to the bank on that one.

Konz already said Pac isn’t tied to hbo but showtime is sucking Floyd so hard i honestly don’t think Pac will get a fair shake on the cards in Vegas on showtime. The funny one is Martinez the only time Floyd ever uttered his name was to say the fight can’t happen due to the issue with the networks. Its so odvious their scared to death of A level southpaws like Pac and Martinez.

Martinez, GGG, and Pac fight for HBO so Floyd–the self proclaimed independent promoter moves to Showtime. How convenient

Posted October 4, 2013 12:11 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Martinez was calling out FMJ three years ago to fight at 154lbs. Where was FMJ back then? Silent. Now that Maravilla is clearly past his prime, injury ridden, pushing 40 and basically washed up, FMJ is finally considering fighting him.

What else would you expect from the cherry-picking chess master of overhyped promotions at this point??? Fighting Sergio will not impress me one bit. Agreeing to fight 3G at 154lbs will earn my respect.

Posted October 4, 2013 12:02 am

Speaking of roidz what all this stuff about Team Mayweather failing tests? I think Hauser said Floyd failed dome test too.

Come to think of it, Floyd Sr. and Ellerbe are looking very buffed as well

Posted October 3, 2013 11:59 pm

I just read an article where Floyd Sr. says he wants the Pac fight but then goes into a rant about how if Pac starts whoopin Floyd they need to stop the fight and test Pac lmao. Wow their still scared to death of Pac i mean its understandable to an extent they’ve never faced anything close to Pac but they haven’t braved their fears yet wow. They’ve had a long time to prepare they’ve been trying to get Floyd ready since the Ortiz fight according to Roger. Says alot about how great and dangerous Pac is he’s clearly the best fighter of this era and there’s a great argument for him being the goat. In their own weird way the Mayweathers have paid homage to Pac throughout this whole ordeal. Floyd avoiding him, Roger saying Floyd wasn’t ready after Ortiz, Floyd Sr. saying he didn’t want Floyd to fight Pac for his destruction of real wws., Floyd talking about his health and self preservation.

Posted October 3, 2013 11:58 pm

Peej, of course Sergio would negotiate weight for Williams much differently than with Mayweather. Promoters are sneaky at the negotiating table. Plus Williams aint near as picky as Floyd and more willing to take on whatever challenge comes before him.

Peeg, Marquez only Ko’d Pacman in their fourth fight and by what seemed like a very suspisiously muscular Marquez. Pacman was dominating up to that. Mayorga got a gift against Forrest in their second flght.

I’m talking about Mosley being totally dominated by Wlnky and Forrest twice each, then by Pacman. Then he was beat by Cotto. All four were ducked by Floyd.

Posted October 3, 2013 7:57 pm

No different than he was willing to do himself, as a matter of fact he gave in to all the other demands and just wanted the drug test and Pacquioa answer was no. Both sides needed to bend a little Pacquioa get everything he want Mayweather only asked for testing. Mayweather figured if he caved in to Pacquioas demands at least he could get the drug test. As we see that did not happen, should Mayweather had given in to the drug testing as well.

It’s seems from your perspective Pacquioa should have gotten everything he wanted and Mayweather just accept the fight to please the fans. I wouldn’t accept the fight when a guy is fighting so hard against a drug test. It would make me think that Pacquioa is trying to hade something.

And Nady was there in an instant and he started the count almost immediately, after he gesticulated Tsyzu to get out of the way.

Posted October 3, 2013 6:26 pm

You’re pretty confident your boxing knowledge surpasses mine? Firstly, I sincerely doubt it going by what you’ve demonstrated so far. And secondly, what a ridiculous thing to say. Why would you even say such a thing? And there’s a difference between reading and being able to comprehend what you read.

Posted October 3, 2013 6:21 pm

Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, Adonis Stevenson, Bernard Hopkins, Sergio Martinez, and Juan Manuel Marquez are among current world-class fighters who are all world champions … or challenging for a World Championship in the case of Marquez.

They are all older than Floyd.

Posted October 3, 2013 6:16 pm

You’re are wrong and you’re too dim to even understand why. See if you can workout why I said read what I said again? You still haven’t managed after multiple chances to do so.

The referee’s job is to protect the fighter if they feel like they’re in no position to defend themselves. The safety of the fighter is paramount. Judah was still clearly hurt, this is why he wobbled all over the place glassy eyed and fell straight back over flat on his front. If Judah was OK he wouldn’t have fallen straight back over on the canvas like a retard afterwards. What part of that is so difficult for you to understand? Nady was standing in the ring a few feet away from him, a few feet away from from seeing the glassy expression in his eyes, you weren’t. He was still clearly dazed by the effects of the first punch, which is why he did the chicken dance and fell flat on his face like a retard.

It’s not about what condition he was in after Nady stopped it, it’s about him still being clearly hurt by the punch and what could’ve happened had Tsyzu caught him again.

Posted October 3, 2013 6:15 pm

Floyd is still in his prime.., Floyd Sr said Floyd never fought better than he did versus Alvarez.

Besides, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, Adonis Stevenson, Bernard Hopkins, Sergio Martinez, and Juan Manuel Marquez are among current world-class fighters who are all world champions … or challenging for a World Championship in the case of Marquez.

So if Danny Garcia beats Floyd, he’ll be beating a prime Floyd. Don’t tell me if Wladimir Klitschko loses to undefeated Alexander Povetkin, he will not be hammered for it in the media because he’s 37. Experience is a major key to winning in this game.

FMJ can’t compete at 140lbs, 154lbs or 160lbs….” The Catchweight King “! Perhaps the best boxer turned con artist of the century.

Urone, the he wanted PAC to keep taking drug tests every five minutes,… Remember?

Posted October 3, 2013 6:03 pm

If he really does fight Golovkin, thinking he will be slow and plodding like Alvarez, he is in for his first loss. Alvarez couldn’t cut the ring off like Golovkin can and he definitely doesn’t punch as hard or accurate.

People keep talking about Mayweather being scared of Pacquioa, all of you are foolish. Mayweather went Directly to Manny’s Manager and tried to get the fight with Manny. Manny’s manager asked Mayweather what if you lose, Mayweather response ” rematch and more money”. This from the guy that is scared, this was from a story on Mayweather in sports illistrated. I think It was a 2010 issue, I read it in a dentist office.

Posted October 3, 2013 6:01 pm

Danny Garcia is the most attractive candidate for next year and honestly he deserves the shot… When given opportunities to shine Garcia has come thru, he starched Khan and he put bomber Lucas Matthysee on his seat and firmly established himself as top man at 140, the kids young and undefeated.. The fight should do solid business over 1 mill
And life goes on…At this point it’s academic, Mayweather will be 37, he will have NEVER booked a loss in his prime and will have gone thru a A RECORD (tied with Manny) 4 lineal Championships unblemished…His legacy is ROCK solid and the only fight that would add to it on some way (Pacquaio) is out of reach for a ton of reasons that knowledgeable fans know…It’s Mayweathera swan song and his detractors are beyond desperate with worry that he’s gonna retire Undefeated… His fans are loving the ride and priviledge of watching one of the BEST pure boxers in history handle his business..

I may not be bright but I can read and I’m pretty confident my boxing knowledge surpasses yours

Posted October 3, 2013 5:42 pm

Yeah I read your post. And you are wrong like I’ve stated. I can care less what the commentary read. Tyson knocked a guy down 3 times with one punch. Difference was ref counted to 10. Sorry but that is the point of a 10 count. He got dropped and the got up immediately. I don’t even think Nady got there in time to count before he waved it off. That us the point of a 10 count. I’m not saying Judah was gonna win, I think Kostya would of finished the job. But fact is Judah was dominating until that point and he should of got the full count

Posted October 3, 2013 5:41 pm

Cliff Richard

Zab did the starched leg boogie…

Posted October 3, 2013 5:31 pm

Judah was clearly still hurt, that’s why he flopped back over like a drunk. He got dropped heavily and then he immediately fell back over again after wobbling all over the place like a drunk. Two knockdowns scored from one punch. Tszyu was known as one of the most fearsome punchers in the sport at the time, like I said had Nady allowed in to continue and Judah gotten hurt he would’ve received a lot of flak.

Posted October 3, 2013 5:16 pm

No I’m not incorrect. You obviously aren’t very bright and you lack reading comprehension. Read what I said again, but this time try and think about it.
Judah was dropped heavily, the back of his head bounced off the canvas, then he got up glassy eyed, wobbled all over the place like a drunk and then fell back over flat on his front. Bobby Czyz who was doing the commentary for the fight said: ”If you were down twice from one punch, there’s a pretty clear indication you got a problem”

Posted October 3, 2013 5:10 pm

From what I saw in the Zab vs Kostya fight Judah was all over the shop and the stoppage was correct, I do agree that Nady allowed Vargas to take far too much punishment and was ruined which is ultimately what would have happened to Zab as I cannot think of a worse fighter to be up against when essentially semi conscious as Judah was than the fierce Russian who for me is one of the most underrated fighters of the last 20 years. Kostya would in his prime always have been too much for the brilliantly skilled but fragile Brooklynite.

Posted October 3, 2013 5:01 pm

Nady is an inconsistent ref. He let Vargas take all that unneeded punishment in the last round against Tito but yet stopped the Judah fight quickly. And a simple way to avoid that is to use the count like it is supposed to be. If they get up get to 8 and ask if they can fight, if not then stop it, if they have not risen yet but are trying to then give them to 10. There is reason why they have the 10 count.

Posted October 3, 2013 4:54 pm

He jumped up at the count of 2 or 3. There are still 7 to 8 seconds left to count. So yes you are incorrect. A fighter has a right to be given a chance. If he would of not gotten up so fast he probably would have gotten his legs under him because as soon as the fight was waved off he did have his legs under him and you could see that when he was making his argument saying he could still fight.

Posted October 3, 2013 4:52 pm

He made a judgement call in a difficult situation. That’s what they’re paid to do. You’re not the one who is on the receiving end of the flak if something goes wrong. It was a perfectly reasonable decision to make under the circumstances.

Posted October 3, 2013 4:48 pm

No I am not incorrect at all. I said if a fighter gets knocked down and then immediately falls back over again, then it’s fair to assume he’s probably not in a position to defend himself. He went back over because his legs weren’t beneath him. And the reason why that was is because he still hadn’t recovered from the effects of the punch that dropped him. Had Tszyu caught him again and hurt him Nady would’ve been heavily criticized for not stopping it. People would’ve said why didn’t you stop it when he clearly hadn’t fully recovered from the first knockdown.

Posted October 3, 2013 4:46 pm

Why fight GGG he is not even number 1 at his weight Martinez may have slowed down but as far as I am aware he became undisputed MW champ when he beat Pavlik and he hasn’t lost since? GGG needs to fight Martinez first and then he can call out Mayweather. I think Golovkin is a serious badass by the way but always look to how he struggled with a fighter like Kassim Ouma who is really no more than a tough journeyman to realise that at this stage he is badly overhyped.

Posted October 3, 2013 4:29 pm

No if a fighter gets knocked down and falls down again he should still get the opportunity to get back up. He got up to soon and still didn’t have his balance but as soon as Nady waved it off he did have his balance. You are incorrect. You don’t just assume that.

Yet, HBO, according to anonymous sources who refused to go on record, the deal for this fight does not recognize Martinez as champion. Martinez is not getting any of the gate money for this fight. He is not getting any of the sponsorship money for this fight. And, to top it all off, Williams, a fighter who is billed as the “Most Avoided” or “Feared Man in Boxing” who can fight from 147 to 160, first demanded a catchweight of 158 pounds for the 160-pound title. According to these sources, the deal was a take-it-or-don’t-be-on-HBO-this-year offer to Martinez.

The reasoning for the catchweight, according to Williams, is simple. He wants to face Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather after this fight and so he wanted Martinez, who will most likely weigh closer to super middleweight the night of the fight, to stay closer to 147.

“What we’ve said is that we were gearing up for a 147-pound fight in our next fight, which happens to be this one,” said Willams. “As you know, we were hoping to get either Pacquiao or Mayweather. So that was the reason [we] was light going into the Martinez fight. The max weight is 158, to make everything clear.”

Williams, who spent a large part of his career at 147-pounds, despite his height, says it’s hard to gain weight to get into the middleweight division.

Another reason given for the catchweight is that promoter Dan Goossen feels Williams is putting himself at risk taking the fight.

“The reason why is because Paul is always taking additional risks when he fights over the welterweight limit. We’ve got a 147-pounder and for the last few years, we’ve been giving up a lot by going up in weight.

Posted October 3, 2013 4:04 pm

david d.

Or FMJ can go old school, and actually move up in weight and challenge the current 160lb champions….or, he can be even bolder, and challenge the 168lb title holder. Sounds like a job for the “best pound for pound boxer in the world”! Wait, that’s FMJ isn’t it??????

Posted October 3, 2013 4:02 pm

And I know there was only a few seconds of the round left, but Nady isn’t the time keeper and even if he was it only takes a fraction of a second land a punch.

I meant to type Flak instead of flax

Posted October 3, 2013 3:57 pm

david d.

FMJ is a legitimate 147lb champion…therefore he should, as expected, defend his title or titles at that weight, Not create another catch weight match. That said, the top 147lb contender; Kell Brook or Paulie Malignaggi, rated number 3 & 4, respectively, by the Ring magazine.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:56 pm

And Nady’s stoppage was fine. If a fighter gets knocked down and then immediately falls back over again, then it’s fair to assume he’s probably not in any position to defend himself. Tszyu was known for being a monstrous hitter and Nady would’ve received a lot of flax had he allowed the fight to continue and Judah got hurt.

Urban fighting style. haha

You don’t even know what slick means.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:49 pm

I think Nady stopped the fight too soon against Kostya but i still think Kostya would of beat him. And yes he has fought some fighters with the urban fighting style. Manfredy, Juuko, Augustus, Sosa, Ndou, Corley, Bruseles, Mitchell, Judah, Marquez, and no Canelo

Posted October 3, 2013 3:47 pm

18 months before Mayweather-Canelo I said that fight would do record revenue numbers… People like Sredmond made fun of that.

Floyd Mayweather-Danny Garcia will do over 1.7 million PPV buys. Garcia is a very attactive opponent for Floyd.

He speaks English… He’s an Amercian… He’s an undefeated World Champoion… He just got major exposure all over the world, scoring a major upset… He can box and punch… He’s much more mature age wise than Canelo was, but still very youthful… He’s a real strong kid, and very quick… He’s a great athlete… He’s smart… He’s confident… He has a know-it-all father/trainer who never shuts up… OK, so that might not be a plus in selling the fight… But there’s a ton of other angles that can be worked for this promotion…

If you can’t sell Mayweather-Garcia … you’re an idiot.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:32 pm

Posted October 3, 2013 3:32 pm

I seriously doubt we see Mayweather fighting above 147 again… There’s no compelling reason to and no boxer who makes it worth spotting guys the poundage..Canelo got the opportunity of a lifetime and came up short… He was the only guy at 154 with a good enough story and the fan base… Time to enjoy this ATGs last few bouts..

Posted October 3, 2013 3:20 pm

what the hell is the author of this crap talking about, th Garcia Matthysse fight was far more exciting than the Mayweather fight.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:20 pm

Yes he has. Yall keep saying Pac like it was all Floyds fault. Floyd agreed to everything the first time in 2009/10 and asked for random testing and they declined. As a matter of fact they have declined the whole time until recently with Rios. When Floyd offered 40 mil they declined and also said an out door stadium needed to be built. Has anybody see this so called stadium. Top Rank had a big issue with this fight not being made. The blame falls on all 3 not just Floyd.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:16 pm

Posted October 3, 2013 3:13 pm

Also Mayweather never called out Martinez, it was Martinez calling out Floyd.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:10 pm

J Wales Pac was smashed by Marquez, the same Marquez Floyd beat a couple years earlier. So stop saying he ducked Pac. By your dumb logic Pac is not even in the running to fight Floyd because he has already been beat. Forrest was beat by Mayorga who was beat by Oscar, the same Oscar that Floyd fought. Once again your logic is flawed. I could care less about overrated Williams.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:09 pm

Yeah they can say they will come to 150 all they want. Why didn’t they fight Williams at 154 then for the rematch. Oh wait because Dibella said Martinez would have to cut off a limb to make it to 154. So you can keep saying what he is saying now doesn’t matter. That is what was originally said. Of course they are gonna keep saying things in the media to try and make it look like Floyd is ducking.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:07 pm

Mayweather is not gonna hit Canelo numbers again his Team and Showtime know that unless he and Pacquiao make the most complicated fight in history…Garcia is likely the front runner in spite or what this author says.. This is an EASY bout to make and the idea that every Mayweather bout is gonna do “The One” numbers is foolish… Most of Floyd’s final bouts will be in the 1 mill range until he does a send off fight… It is what it is Showtime makes out because their overall boxing profile skyrockets and they have a slew of GoldenBoy fighters to showcase… The Mayweather era is winding down and Showtime wisely cashed in on one of history’s best..

Posted October 3, 2013 3:06 pm

I don’t care who owns the Ring. If he didn’t purchase it the Ring would of went under. and until there is some proof of them manipulating the rankings in any way, which there isn’t then I could care less and will follow their rankings and champions.

Posted October 3, 2013 3:06 pm

Truth Teller

I don’t think Floyd should fight on Cinco de Mayo next year because there really is no credible Mexican opponent for him to fight south of 154 at this point in time that makes sense unless he rematches JMM if he beats Bradley. Even that fight I don’t feel makes a lot of sense based on how one sided their first fight was. If he isn’t going to fight Khan (who does have a large UK fan base) I think Garcia or dare I say Pacquiao are the best options for Floyd. If Pacquiao beats Rios in spectacular fashion next month, then I think a May 5th show down with Mayweather would still be a huge draw. Pacquiao obviously wouldn’t be able to command a 50/50 split but I do think that fight can still be made now that Floyd is completely in the driver’s seat.

Posted October 3, 2013 2:54 pm

That was last year. Maybe Sergio can’t make that weight now, and I for one wouldn’t like to see him try. But lets not act like Sergio never wanted the fight. Mayweather and his cronies said he was too big.

Posted October 3, 2013 2:53 pm

The Ring championship is owned by Oscar the meglomaniac promoter Ha ha ha

Fact: Floyd called out Martinez who then offered every advantage but Floyd wouldnt sign the dotted line. he ducked again.

Sergio Martinez Will Fight Mayweather at 150, 80-20 Split, Says DiBella
Mar 18 2012

Promoter Lou DiBella is offering about as much as he can really offer to get Floyd Mayweather Jr into a ring with his fighter, reigning middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. According to*********, DiBella is serious about both the weight and split offer, both of which heavily favor Mayweather:

“Floyd would be favored at 150. Cotto is a dead man at 154. Cotto is a half-shot. He’s a great fighter, but he gets hit by everything. He incented Cotto to make a big money fight. It’s very smart business. If he wants to handicap Sergio, we’ll fight him as low as 150. And we’ll give him 80% of the money”

Posted October 3, 2013 2:50 pm

Martinez could never make 154 so there was no point in entertaining a fight with Martinez. See how folks on here are saying Canelo was now weight drained. Same thing would happen if he fought Martinez at 154. Fact is Martinez and his team came out and said we can no longer make 154. That is why the Williams rematch was fought at 157. They said they would need to cut off a limb.

Posted October 3, 2013 2:39 pm

Canelo had the Ring Championship. That made him the real Champion at 154. Plain and Simple.

Posted October 3, 2013 2:37 pm

Shut up with all this talk about Floyd fighting Martinez now. Martinez is way past his sell by date and ravaged with injuries.

Floyd should’ve been taking these kind of challenges against worthy opponents years and years ago, not fighting all these once legitimate threats when they’re on their last legs and their threat is no longer real.

He says he’s GOAT but he won’t even fight legitimate threats and great fighters when they’re in their prime.

He feasts on the relics of once legitimate foes and C fighters and then tries to sell it and himself as something it’s not.

He should’ve fought Pacquiao years ago, not made a big song and dance about everything to try and cover up the fact he was scared of getting beat.

He’s had plenty of opportunities to prove his greatness but he’s always taken the path of least resistance.

Posted October 3, 2013 2:18 pm

147lber……Canelo moved GREAT in that fight against Mayweather, he was even moving BETTER than he was against his much lighter opposition that he’s been taking ADVANTAGE of thru his whole career! Canelo was AGILE FAST & QUICK against Mayweather, the sad thing for the HATERS is, Mayweather was more SKILLFULL, even though he was 15 lbs lighter!!! HATERS please dont cry!!!

Posted October 3, 2013 2:18 pm

yeah Peej kept promoting Canelo as the lineal champ somthing or other but all his titles were vacant set ups

Posted October 3, 2013 2:17 pm

Martinez is NATURALLY heavier that 154lbs (do your homework) but he WILL come down in weight to make VERY BIG MONEY against the LIGHTER Mayweather! REHYDRATION should be an ISSUE (CLAUSE) thats addressed so Maravella doesnt come in too heavy on fight night, but I AGREE that these two fighting each other, would be the BEST match-up out there for these guys – since they BOTH, are SUPERB boxers!!!

Sergio Martinez is half Hispanic, half Italian. And he’s been begging Floyd to fight him for years now.

floyd its a chicken …..he did not fight canelo at his weight 154 he draned him to 152 canelo looked like a zombie

Posted October 3, 2013 2:05 pm

Fritz you are exactly right

Fighting the best at 154 is all us real fans are asking because Floyd never ever fights the best. Molina and Lara are Golden Boy champions so quit racketeering and make floyd defend his title like most other boxing champs.

Canelo was exposed by Trout who only fought a overly battle worn Cotto

Kahn is considered for his weak chin.

Garcia is great but considered because of what Judah and Mathysse were able to do to him and has never fought at 147 so let Floyd fight him at 140.

Everybody else is with HBO/Top Rank

Posted October 3, 2013 2:04 pm

urone2……youre on POINT….clear as a whistle!!!

Posted October 3, 2013 1:55 pm

Fritz I have never promoted Canelo. I have always said that he only has 1 real Jr Middle on his resume and everybody else was a blown up Jr WW or WW. Also have stated that he was given his WBC belt in a fight with someone that had never fought at 154 nor was ever ranked by the WBC. So once again I have never promoted Canelo. But he was considered the champion at 154 and that is all I have said about it.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:53 pm

Martinez its ranked numbed 2or3 of the planet he is a natural 154ponder but since maywheater its nothing but a cheery picker wil never fight martines a vuy with same speed awome defense and a lot more powerful than floyd….maravilla its the only man floyd fears beside pacman …maravilla wil nock him out no dout about it

Posted October 3, 2013 1:53 pm

Andre Ward works on the inside. It is just not holding like Molina does. There are gonna be some heads coming together when you are throwing punches on the inside. That is just fighting on the inside. But he doesn’t just hold, he works on the inside too. Something Molina does not do.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:51 pm

Fritz the Ditz……please EXPOUND on your comment! Tell me what a PAST PRIME SMALL 147lber @ the age of 37 will prove in May 2014 against the YOUNG dudes you mentioned (which are “NATURALLY HEAVIER” than him)!?? Will your HATING heart give him his props “IF” he happens to succeed in defeating these guys????!!! I THINK NOT!!!!

Posted October 3, 2013 1:50 pm

Peej of course you dont promote canelo now but he was another one of your feverish for Floyd strawmen.

Molina and Lara fight the best– kinda guys that Floyd ducks. For instance Lara thoroughly beat Williams who constantly called out Floyd. Molina holds like Robinson–not Ruiz

Posted October 3, 2013 1:47 pm

oh yeah, scratch Martinez he’s an HBO fighter ,i almost forgot!

Posted October 3, 2013 1:44 pm

I wish people would stop talking about Pacquioa and Mayweather as long as there is blood to suck out of Pacquioa Arum will not let him fight Mayweather. When Pacquioa was going to be guarantied the biggest every payday to a boxer of 40 Million for the fight he turned it down. Pacquioa would not take a drug test, in the first negotiations, and had to wait on a stadium to be built on the third negotiation. Two of these excuse can not be awarded to Pacquioa, only the not fighting for 40 million. The other two has to go to the owner of the excuses and that Arum. I have to add after turning down 40 million he gets put to sleep by Marquez, which now ends his chance of ever getting that much guarantied. If Pacquioa had taken the guarantied money and beat Mayweather, he could have fought Canelo for a record PVP. Now, I believe those option are gone forever. Sometimes when opportunity knocks you just have to open the door.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:39 pm

“athletic” should be the word, but “made up” words (athletical) sometimes hit better to me! Peace out!!!

Funny how flomos hyped up Canelo but insist that GGG, Lara, and Molina dont deserve a shot

Posted October 3, 2013 1:36 pm

King SKILZ should knock Pacquiao* out for the HATERS, but the truth is, Mayweather SIMPLY won’t get ANY CREDIT from the HATERS! Why?! cuz Pacs* been recently knocked out by Marquez! The funny HATING thing is, Mayweather DETRACTORS believe he’s STILL scared to face Pac* even though Pac* has FINALLY decided to take the tests for the 1st time due to the MONEY PAYOUT he’ll NEVER come across AGAIN!!!! Pac has totally PLAYED himself for the TRUE fans of COURAGE and SKILZ, due to his CONTINUOS PRIOR REFUSAL to take MAJOR “RANDOM” TESTS that PROVE a “PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES” TRUE SELF WORTH & RESPECT in the WORLD OF SPORTS!!!! Pac* may have developed some great experiences in his personal life, of which I’m TOTALLY HAPPY for, BUT his professional athletical life is that of AVOIDANCE, which his fans IGNORE in place of the facade, which is his SINGING, overuse of SMILING, “DECLARED” religious allegiance and his political endeavors!!!

Posted October 3, 2013 1:26 pm

Andre Ward likes to grab a lot PEEJ, and headbutt. Gee I wonder why you don’t have a problem with him doing that. Let’s hear your excuses.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:17 pm

And I don’t promote Canelo, unless you are talking about someone else.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:11 pm

I have seen a few of his fights and he likes to grab like John Ruiz used to when he was fighting. As a matter of fact he does it more than Ruiz. Na he does not deserve a shot. Same with Lara. He has to put quality wins together, not draws.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:10 pm

Danny Garcia

Posted October 3, 2013 1:05 pm

You’ve been deceived by the hype machines that continually robbed Molina against the likes of Chavez jr., Lara, and Kirkland. Besides, a just man knows that Lara and Molina deserve this shot more than any other because they are the champions at 154

When Ishe Smith uses his brute force to cover up then yeah it was boring but watch Molina’s other fights–non-stop pressure pressure pressure.

Likewise, Lara is a very competitive warrior who’s always exciting to watch unlike Canelo who YOU continually promoted.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:02 pm

Molina nor Lara has any fan base. Molina deserves no shot at Floyd. His fights are terrible to watch. You think he has more arms than an octopus. Lara needs to earn the fight. When he steps up his comp he doesn’t win, he gets draws.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:38 pm

Yeah let me play the Cinco de Mayo promoter

Floyd can defend his three 154 titles against Molina or Lara who are both 154 Latinos.

A rematch of Garcia and Mathysse on the undercard also makes great financial sense.

If Floyd tends toward the Mexican Molina on Cinco de Mayo then Canelo can fight Lara. If Canelo chickens out then let Trout fight.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:33 pm

The writer of this article is the only person I have heard of saying Garcia vs Matthisse was boring

Posted October 3, 2013 12:23 pm

Yeah after reading him saying the Garvia vs Matthysse fight was not crowd pleasing and all he did was run and clinch, I stopped reading. He apparently does not know what he was talking about. That was a damn good fight and it was crowd pleasing. Get your eyes checked dude.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:19 pm

The winner of Bradley Marquez would be good but they fight for HBO as does Pacquiao.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:15 pm

Lara is Latino too and is very exciting so why no mention of him?

Martinez says that after his three fight contract with HBO is up, he will retire. He has two more fights to go and says one of them will be GGG.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:11 pm

If Pacquiao can look impressive against Rios I think that’s the fight that will happen. But if Pacquiao struggles, it’ll be the winner of Bradley v Marquez, if one of them gets in done in style. Then there’s always the back up plan of the winner of Provodikov v Alvarado.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:08 pm

I find it insulting that he labeled the Garcia-Matthysse fight as being non crowd pleasing and stated Garcia “ran” instead of brawling! Wow! If anything, the Garcia-Matthysse fight outdid the Mayweather-Alvarez fight, in terms of action and excitement. Garcia chose to box or as this guy states, “run” instead of brawling with a known puncher. What kind of sense does that make? But then he mentions Carlos Molina as a possible opponent for Mayweather??? The one guy who does more grabbing, clinching and smothering than any other fighter not named Guerrero. No longer taking Jeff Sorby serious as a journalist, writer, or whatever the hell he calls himself.

Posted October 3, 2013 12:02 pm

Believe it or not Sorby, I doubt many boxing fans sit on the edge of their beds nervously biting their fingernails as they worry about who Mayweather’s next opponent is. LMAO! What mystery?

Posted October 3, 2013 12:00 pm

The only people that were hyping Canelo are the same people dissing Golovkin.

Why? Because Canelo’s blueprint to lose was exposed by Austin Trout.

Now Lara and Molina are the top 154 guys but the Flomos wont even mention them.

IF ONLY WE COULD GO BACK TO the 80’s, FLOYD would be spoilt for choice, with the likes of SRL, DURAN, HEARNS, CURRY, even COLIN JONES and HONEYGHAN along with MAGIC MAN MARLON STARLING, SIMON BROWN at Welterweight……

SAOUL MAMBY, JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ Snr, (uncle Rog- nah, it ain’t happening), AARON PRYOR, ANTONIO CERVANTES (on life support), MELDRICK TAYLOR, CAMACHO (RIP) at Jnr Welterweight……

What a talent laden bunch of fighters we had at these weights in the 80’s and I’ve only touched the surface. Floyd would have been spoilt for choice, but today we can barely count on one hand any decent opponents at any weight!

These guys would be MULTI millionaires if they were boxing in today’s age….

Boxing is not dying, it’s just getting less talented!

I wish Money would fight on 4th of July or the great MLK day. But, if he did, would the same latin/hispanic fighters have any better shot at beating him? I guess it doesn’t matter when he fights.. NOBODY remembers the dates.. It’s WHO he fights..

Brick City

Farce of boxing, he is the PPv king, Canelo couldnt have sold that many PPv sales alone. PPl brought the fight bcuz they felt a young Canelo could defeat the great Mayweather which didnt happen. Think about it.

Haymon/ Golden Boy / Showtime dont do Eurasians but Molina or the Lara are the most obvious choices because they have winning records and are in their primes.

The Farce of Boxing

If Floyd is the face of boxing then he should be able to draw PPV sales on any day of the year. May 5th and Sept 16th are popular dates for Mexican fans and was made popular by the great Julio Cesar Chavez. Why doesn’t Floyd fight on the 4th of July or on Martin Luther King’s birthday, PPV king my ass.
