agbeko? Where’s Mickey Garcia and Abner Mares?? why are they hiding instead of calling out Rigo???Posted September 26, 2013 4:17 pm
i heard that agbeko got the call so itl be an interesting match up but i see Rig with his hand up…its crazy!Posted September 26, 2013 2:47 pm
I can’t see a Rigo/Garcia fight happening any time soon, or at all, maybe. Mikey’s going for a super featherweight title in November and Rigondeaux is still fighting two divisions below him–at super bantamweight.
Mikey would fight very well against Rigondeaux. Mikey has some fine technical skills. He’s quick, accurate with his punches, and he’s a thinking, patient fighter–just to name a few. Unlike Donaire who mainly relies on haymakers to win fights, Mikey has a full arsenal at his disposal. What he is lacking right now, is the depth of experience that comes from a well of high-caliber fights against top-notch opponents.
But at present, I’d still pick Rigo over Garcia. Mikey is a boxer/puncher. He’s done well against sluggers like Salido and Lopez. Martinez will be more of the same. But he’s never faced anyone like Rigondeaux, a vastly talented and skilled boxer with an incredibly deep amateur record. When this guy popped onto the pro scene, he already had enough fights and experience under his belt to take on and beat the very best. And that’s just what he did.
Meanwhile, I think Mikey is going to continue to dominate. Until he runs into someone who can really box.Posted September 25, 2013 7:03 pm
i heard he isn’t allowed to fight in New york again either as he sent the city that never sleeps to sleepPosted September 25, 2013 3:55 pm
Donaire is nothing close to an ATG.Posted September 25, 2013 2:39 pm
“The Boxing world will have to deal with Nonito Donaire for many years to come.. He’s a 4-Division World Champion and ATG.” – TARK there’s no way Donaire is an ATG for winning 4 trinkets. Broner has won 3 trinkets, does that make him an ATG. Fact is Donaire’s resume is still too thin to be talking in all-time terms at all. We’ll see if that becomes plausible during this second phase of his career.Posted September 25, 2013 1:25 pm
Mickey Garcia vs Rigo and Abner Mares vs Matthyessee..Posted September 25, 2013 12:48 pm
Yes Sir, we’ll see if Mickey Garcia grows a pair…Posted September 25, 2013 12:46 pm
Garcia-Rigondeaux perfect fightPosted September 25, 2013 12:21 pm
The only fights for Rigo right now would be Mickey Garcia and Abner Mares both come into their fights at 140+lbs..Posted September 25, 2013 11:41 am
Guillermo Rigondeau is probably the only activ boxer who have the boxing knologe and skils to defeat Floyd Mayweather and everyone who know something about boxing will agree with me.Posted September 25, 2013 11:38 am
Anselmo Moreno would be a real good test for Rigo. And there’s Chris John. Abner Mares or even Brian Viloria.Posted September 25, 2013 10:38 am
i would love to see golden boy or floyd’s stable snatch him up the two guys that jumped ship on arum and are doing the best in the business.they will def make rigo a star that he’s being deprived of…it’s crazy out here!Posted September 25, 2013 10:21 am
Why is Rigondeaux with Top Rank? They dont appreciate at all and they comments from Bob e.g. “When I mention Rigondeaux name, they throw up” WTF. The guy is an excellent boxer and deserves more respect than that! He should move to Goldenboy/Showtime!Posted September 25, 2013 7:02 am
bye bye Donaire, RIGO has your blue print and will beat you worse second time aroundPosted September 24, 2013 11:48 pm
It’s Me, Ernie
I like Nonito, an ATG he’s not, and looks to be on the downside of his career…Posted September 24, 2013 11:05 pm
UJelly I remember that. My how the perspectives have changed.Posted September 24, 2013 10:28 pm
This pundit says.., “A past his best fighter like Donaire.”
Donaire is still in his prime.. The Boxing world will have to deal with Nonito Donaire for many years to come.. He’s a 4-Division World Champion and ATG. He’s not going anywhere just because one of the greatest boxers of all time beat him … They will meet again.Posted September 24, 2013 9:18 pm
@Fight Aficionado – “Who is confirmed to have predicted Rigo would beat Donaire?”
Though for the record, I did pick Donaire to win by late stoppage after being outboxed… I thought Donaire would get desperate and given Rigo’s wobbly moments in a couple of earlier fights, I didn’t believe he’d be able to survive if Donaire caught him… clearly I was wrong, because he did get caught and got back up like it was nothing!Posted September 24, 2013 9:12 pm
Who is confirmed to have predicted Rigo would beat Donaire? I was vocal about that from Day 1, in fact I was on Rigo’s as well as Gamboa’s bandwagon since their early pro days. Seems there’s some more now but I recall there was only a few fellow posters who actually predicted Rigo would actually win though.Posted September 24, 2013 8:49 pm
Patrick2 I don’t know about Garcia. Rigo is not a big featherweight, he’s very short for full blown 126. He could top out there though in a few years. Of course he’s slick enough to go up and probably win.Posted September 24, 2013 8:26 pm
Bout time HBO!Posted September 24, 2013 7:34 pm
It was obvious Rigo was very solid fundamentally, though I thought Donaire would be able to edge him out to get the win. That fight being history, I would love to see Rigo vs Mickey Garcia. I’d pick Garcia to win that one, but if Rigo were able to get the win we can start talking a Hall of Fame career.Posted September 24, 2013 6:46 pm
Rigo should take a lesson from Mayorga’s book and be more colorful, start insulting and calling people out. Get people talking and noticing him, no more Mr. Nice guy.Posted September 24, 2013 6:20 pm
big moe`he needs to just auction him off to the highest bidder so everybody could be happy…real promoters will kill to have rigo in their stable….its crazy!Posted September 24, 2013 4:14 pm
BIG UPS to Rigo…lets go!!!Posted September 24, 2013 4:06 pm
Why is arum airing out rigos biss like this? Is he trying to get people not to like rigo or something? Even if HBO said that, arum should keep that to himself. Hes clearly pissed that rigo took apart his future cash cow. This is exactly why floyd and oscar left and did their own thing. Hang in there rigo.Posted September 24, 2013 1:55 pm
So HBO lifted its ban of Rigo after he toppled their cash cow Donaire. Surprise. Whatever happened to Pirog after he demolished Daniel Jacobs? Oh yeah, he disappeared in Russia and HBO issued a permaban.Posted September 24, 2013 1:33 pm
Rigondeux is much the Mayweather type fighter with similar attributes.Posted September 24, 2013 11:30 am
Rigo is now the most avoided fighter on the planet, plain and simple, he’s just simply a bad match up for anyone.Posted September 24, 2013 11:07 am
Rigondeaux killed HBO “golden goose” on Donaire…plain and simple. Rigondeaux show superior skills and exposed Donaire. A rematch wouldn’t make sense as the fight wasn’t even closed…if they do it again, it’ll be more of the same.
However, having said that, perhaps that’s what HBO and Arum currently have in mind. Donito has been fed an opponent who possesses no threat so he can look good. While Guillermo gest a chance to fight on HBO against perhaps a no too dangerous opponent, again to ensure victory. Then the two will meet early next year on a PPV undercard…perhaps Canelo-Cotto, Bradley-Pac, Marquez-Pac, Khan-Pac, etc. Either way, I see a rematch written all over.Posted September 24, 2013 10:58 am
Is he going to fight Mickey Garcia or Abner Low Blow Mares??? That’s the only fights that matter..Posted September 24, 2013 10:34 am
Neither Rigondeaux or Donaire are fighting as much as they should be. 7 and 8 month breaks between fights is ridiculous.Posted September 24, 2013 10:33 am
flash knock down
The HBO excutives throw up when I mention Rigondeaux name. I don’t believe anything Bob Arum says. The excutives at HBO would not know a real fighter if Evander Holyfield,Sugar Ray Leonard, and Ali were standing in front of them. The people at HBO go by what these promoters tell them they are not boxing people. Who would not want to see the best fighter in the world? OK Donaire lost to Rig and gets a fight on HBO but HBO don’t want Rig how crazy does that sound.Oh and they are feeding Donaire a easy fight that no one wants to see but they think most people would rather see Donaire fight a no body than watch the best. This is a race thing.Posted September 24, 2013 10:13 am
Rematch!!?? Rigo would beat Donaire 10 out of 10 & Donaire knows it.Posted September 24, 2013 10:07 am
Wow I can’t believe Donaire refused the rematch. He was such a showoff before he got his ass kicked.Posted September 24, 2013 10:01 am
HBO has lost their minds, I think they’re listening to Bob Arum and are now stuck with the Bob arum show. They put themselves in a corner not working with Golden Boy and Mayweather. As long as Showtime is willing to work with everyone we should sxpect to see better boxing on Showtime.
Bob Arum is not Marketing Rigo properly, Rigo gets the biggest win of his career against Donaire. The next thing we hear is Donaire has a fight not Rigo, Rigo needs to drop Arum as soon as possible and get with someone who has Rigo’s best interest in mind. Bob Arum always has his own agenda and it doesn’t seem to include Rigo.Posted September 24, 2013 9:56 am
Mick the Marmalizer
jcwangle: Gary Hyde has worked well with Rigo & will continue to do so. He has his best interests at heart, as he does with all his stable. I know for a fact that he wants Rigo/Santa Cruz made in the new year!Posted September 24, 2013 8:09 am
rigo needs to make the jump to golden boy, fighters are plain stupid if they sign with arum and top rank.
rigo vs kiko would be the best option right now as kiko is a relentless pressure fighter who could test rigo, when frampton and quigg have fought a world beater then they can be fed to rigo, santa cruz is probably the most dangerous for rigo right nowPosted September 24, 2013 7:34 am
Mick the Marmalizer
Swamp hound’s got it right. Rigo/Santa Cruz is the way forward.
Rigo vs Frampton, bring it.Posted September 24, 2013 4:16 am
Rigo vs Santa Cruz would be great but promoters and networks are destroying boxingPosted September 24, 2013 2:55 am
It’s about time they gave this young man a chance to show case his outstanding skills. He easily destroyed Donaire as I had predicted. A beautiful boxer that is without a doubt the best pure boxer in boxing today, and that includes Floyd Mayweather. Rigondeaux is special.Posted September 24, 2013 2:07 am
Leo Santa Cruz could be a good option, though the kid may still be a little raw.
Or since Rigo isn’t a big draw, they could get him on the plane… I’m sure he’d not be bothered by that after the amateur days, in which case he could jump the pond and take on Carl Frampton.
I really want to see Rigo back in action. The way TR has acted has been disgraceful, even by their horrid standards. What kind of honourless moron calls his own fighter boring after the biggest (dominant) win of his career?Posted September 24, 2013 1:22 am
This is great news for the fans of pure boxing. I was in awe of Rigondeaux when I watched his performance in the donaire fight.
Rigondeaux is a real genius of the ring, probably the greatest I have ever seen in my lifetime and that includes Floyd Mayweather.Posted September 24, 2013 1:18 am
I am glad he’s fighting but author mentioning several opponents who were very recently KO’d instead of the opponents that did the KOing like Kiko Martinez, jhonny Gonzalez, Farampton, Satoshi Hosono or Chris John, etc etcPosted September 24, 2013 1:14 am
Honestly Arum…….. U have no credibility. Pointing blame here 2ward HBO… G wonder Y. Where r Mayweathers fights televised. I can’t wait until Arum is done, actually so long as Floyd is around he’s already missing out.Posted September 24, 2013 12:28 am
