“Those two pounds did nothing to his speed. That’s a bunch of crock.”

How would you know this, Octavius? My money says you’ve never participated in any sport in which you had to lose weight to compete. I did: boxing and wrestling. I know what I am talking about.

Catchweights never work in favor of the bigger fighter, nor are they expected to. Catchweights are used to give physical advantage to one fighter over another. Freddie Roach was honest about this. His response was often, “I want to level the playing field for my fighter.” But in reality, he was looking to give an advantage to his fighter–Pacquiao, in particular.

But as I said before, I picked Floyd to win, catchweight or no. So you don’t need to preach to this choir.

Posted September 18, 2013 9:36 am

“Canelo should forget about Cotto and try to get Martinez… Martinez might think he’s still young enough to out-speed and outpoint Canelo after watching Canelo’s feeble effort against Floyd.”

Well, let’s not forget about the catchweight. That extra two pounds may have been just enough to take the edge off Canelo’s speed and focus. Not saying the outcome would have been any different if it wasn’t a catchweight fight, because I did pick Mayweather to beat Canelo by decision before a catchweight was announced. But we’ll never know.

Posted September 18, 2013 2:16 am

That is one dejected boy in that photo. Guaranteed Canelo will never fight at a catchweight again.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.., “Canelo has everything he needs to become a future living legend in the sport of Boxing.”

He’s 23.., Give him a break. He could still become really good.

I DOUBT THE CARTELS ARE THAT DUMB. I posted a complete listing of AUSTIN TROUTS last 6 bouts and the quality of his opposition, but TARK tried to shoot me down. TROUTS first decent opponent was COTTO, but as I said one big win doesn’t make a great fighter!

I reckon the cartels laid it all on FLOYD, particularly after watching Canelo vs Trout….

Just my viewpoint!!!

As Josesito Lopez’s Mexican Trainer said on their 24/7 episode leading to the Canelo fight regarding Canelo “if he didn’t have Red Hair and Freckles no one would give a sht about him” and that was a fellow Mexican talking not me.. and he was correct.. Take away his padded silly record, his red hair, Freckles and he’d be just another Friday nights fighter trying to make it.. we all know if this kid was forced to fight the best and most dangerous guys early in his career like they’ve made others do he’d of loss long ago.. he’s still running away from his Mandatory Cuban Lara… but he pulled off the scham and objective.. he landed his multimillion dollar Payday..

Ohhh?! THAT “Rosado”. he needs to redeem his KO loss to Angulo or Derrick Ennis or Fernando Guerrero or Joshua Onyango(?) or Chris Gray(?). a rematch v. Soto Karass isn’t feasible since Rosado stopped cheating by fighting at an artificially lower weight, collecting beatdowns ANYway(?!), and moved up to 160lbs where he’s still collecting BeatDowns (lol). in fact, he’s also got unfinished business v. JLeon Love. let’s find out whether the “banned” diuretic was the difference in that win. he shouldn’t be satisfied with officials settling the beef for him.

i’ve been saying all along that a Mayweather v. Pacquiao* matchup is an anticlimactic mismatch in Floyd’s favor. dominant Mayweather wins v. Mosley, Ortiz, Cotto, Ortiz, and Canelo, and one particularly BRUTAL KO Loss for Pacquiao* v. Marquez, only reinforces the point that Pacquiao* is several classes distant from ever competing v. Mayweather. in fact, no less than two or three impressive wins v. the likes of Rios, Garcia, Guerrero, Khan, or Maidana may put Pacquiao* in line in time to face Mayweather before his Showtime contract is up. however, like Mayweather who agreed to a lopsided purse-split for the opportunity to face DLH and Marquez who did the same to compel additional bouts v. Pacquiao*, Manny* will have to discard his diva-like negotiating tactics to confirm a bout v. Mayweather on Floyd’s terms. random and MUTUALLY-Applied testing included. otherwise, residual Pacmania* notwithstanding, Pacquiao* is barely an “After Dark” headliner compared to “Money’s” stature as Boxing’s premiere PPV headliner.

Another boxing fan said this to me about Floyd, “Floyd is so far beyond the competition he looks as if he could be leaning against the ropes eating an apple while handily winning the fight.” And it’s true too.

“Mayweather is running out of opponents as he continues to make things look easy.” – Not really. At 147 there’s Pacquiao and Broner, two very good fights. At 154 there’s GGG and Martinez. Both have offered to drop weight for this fight. What’s the problem? I think these 4 fights match the number left in Floyd’s Showtime contract. And don’t give me this HBO/Showtime cold war. The broadcasters will do whatever the fighters want if pressed on the issue.

Canelo needs to work on his left a lot more every which way, that is the only way to beat Mayweather , that is the reason Mayweather has avoided people like Winky Wright in the past and why Cotto did so well against him.

Posted September 16, 2013 4:47 pm

JimRich stated, “Will everyone leave poor cotto out of this, cotto needs to retire he’s walked into enough punches he is damaged goods forever, cotto should retire asap he has had a good career.”

I agree, but it’s not for use to decide…it’s up to Cotto. He’s a grwon man and if he wants to continue fighting and take the risk of getting hurt, it’s his choice. Since there’s no sign from him about retiring any time soon, I believe a fight against Canelo would make some”money” sense.

Will he get beat up…maybe. However, that’ll be his choice.

Posted September 16, 2013 4:38 pm

Totally agreed that a man tattooed a boy but with a fair amount of it only. Saying this, tattoos do not really hurt.If you equate Mayweather’s wins where or when a boxing contest is only won by a knockout, what would it be? Wins : ?, Losses: ? Just a crazy thought intended for fun and not to create animosity amongst boxing fans. Any thoughts guys?.

Sergio Martinez vs Canelo at 154lbs would be a very good matchup.. Martinez has already flushed Chavez Jr. down the toilet why not flush the other Hyped up do nothing as well? it would be a Great fight..

Posted September 16, 2013 4:15 pm

Coming from a Cotto fan, Canelo would hurt him terribly. The styles don’t match up well at all.
I saw talk that Martinez was considering Cotto as an opponent for his comeback fight (I guess hinging on the Cotto-Rodriguez result). I actually think Cotto would fair better against Martinez, not just from a stylistic standpoint but also because Martinez is looking pretty faded these days… not saying Cotto would beat him by any means, but I think he’d at least see the final bell and snatch a fair few rounds along the way.

Cotto needs to retire. He’s hanging on to something that’s not there anymore. He’s only going to hurt and diminish his legacy. GGG beats Canelo by KO if they ever fought. Canelo still has stamina issues. GGG is an animal and will be hard to beat. Quillin IMO beats Canelo also. Canelo needs to get his confidence back and start back up again. He doesn’t have enough experience fighting the top guys, and it showed vs Mayweather. He also needs to learn how to fight inside like the great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Canelo really needs to learn this, but it may be too late for him. He has a lot of experience, but has never really learned how to fight inside. He had chances vs Floyd, but declined to fight him, which really surprised me. He needs to learn because he only fights one way.

What part of brain damage don’t you guys get?? Cotto?? REALLY? Cotto needs to retire, stay retired, and enjoy life

Posted September 16, 2013 3:38 pm

Cotto needs to first win his fight in October before we can talk about a Canelo-Cotto fight. Although, at this stage of Cotto’s career, a fight against Canelo would make a lot of “money” sense.

I don’t agree with some ignorant comments about Canelo being a “bum”. He lost due to being overconfident (thanks in part to DeLahoya) and against the best defensive fighter of this era. He should be able to handle Cotto, who should be two or three fights away from retirement.

A fight against Lara, at this point, would be risky. Canelo’s confident won’t be there and Lara has some great skills.

But I would love to see a Canelo-Cotto. I believe Canelo will win the fight, but I’ll be rooting for my countryman Cotto all the way.

This was a slightly more interesting match than the Guerrero fight. Which isn’t saying much. Cotto/Alvarez will probably be the next step for Canelo depending on how good Cotto looks. This played out how it was supposed to. Bring your Name & your fans to this fight. You will get a well paid boxing lesson. Canelo wasn’t cut or dropped and emerged from the bout virtually unmarked. he’ll be back soon. in fact, Lara is sounding pretty good right about now. i personally think Canelo drops Golovkin at 154lbs too, but i’ll settle for a brutal KO of Cotto. nice payday for both and an opportunity for Canelo to repolish his P4P creds at Cotto’s expense, which is the September 14 bout i wanted in the first place.

Canelo would severely Punish and Punchout Golovkin at 154lbs. Gennady has good finishing skills but from what i’ve seen, he’s been dodging bullets along the entire way. he hasn’t defeated any noteworthy opponents (indeed, Canelo’s ring-resume is already superior to Golovkin’s) but is poised to finally challenge one very soon. let’s hope he does. I hope it’s Canelo. if so, Golovkin gets taken to school and easily outscored if not TKO’d over 12. never-was’ like Rosado needs to avenge one or two or three of his previoius losses to even merit a matchup v. Quillin. Canelo is in another competitive bracket, altogether. Rosado would be a big step down and nothing more than a tune-up if not straight-up mugging.

Canelo is FAR from a “Bum” he’s just not an Elite fighter as of today nor ATG, he booked his first loss in points to the ONLY Undefeated 5 weight Champ in boxing history a guy who has been lineal Champ in 4 divisions with no blemishes… Who did Klitschko, Pacquiao, Martinez and Donaire book their first losses too??? Calling Canelo “a bum” is really all abiut trying to discredit another Mayweather opponent.. Floyd could KO GGG, Martinez and Ward on the SAME night and they would all be labeled “Bums” the next day… The tactics of the anti-Mayweather factions are predictable and transparent..

Canelo should be back, but I did find the comment by Public Enemy funny. I don’t see anything wrong with having a little fun…don’t tell Canelo that though.

On the other hand, IMO, Canelo fighting Josesito Lopez was ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as some of his fans believing that because he beat Shane Mosley, he could beat Floyd as well. That is call wishful thinking or just plain ignorance.

It should show up in his next fight with whoever he matches up with. At this point, any boxer can be ineffective against Mayweather — even when they do their very best — and that includes Canelo. Well, back to work for me. PEACE.

Canelo did his best but like I predicted it would not be enough.. without the Weight advantage and against a top undefeated fighter he will have a bad night.. Not sure what he should do? he can’t stay at 154lbs too much longer, he’s growing and making the lower weight will be harder and harder for him. Moving up to Middle and Super Middleweight will have him up against guys his true size that can sting him when they land.. personally I think he should just move up to 160lbs and challenge Chavez Jr. See who is Mexicos true Champion.. he’d probably be alot stronger because he would not have to lose so much weight..

What a boring fight. Canelo’s only chance was to go all out & bully Mayweather. He didn’t and he will rue the day he decided to box with a superior boxer in Mayweather. H*ll, it seemed Floyd moved forward more than Alvarez. Yes, Alvarez would have taken more punishment, but such opportunities in life usually only come once, if at all.

Canelo’s spirit isn’t broken… Far from it. He just made 10 million dollars and earned every dollar of it the last week of training camp as he cut off those extra pounds. This fight wasn’t as rough as Leonard’s 1st fight with Duran … where Ray was actually hurt a few times by a smaller guy coming up in weight.

It’s great for Canelo to know where he’s at as a boxer 7 years from his peak. Gives him plenty of time to work on his weaknesses. Canelo’s jab is not perfected or anywhere CLOSE to perfect … and Floyd knew the same slow, readable jab was coming all night.

Oscar De La Hoya.., “The jab is the key… Jab, jab, and jab some more… We’re going to Floyd’s ass off … Yap, yap, yap, yap, yap.”

Canelo’s expression shows the amount of belief he had in himself. It’s the confusion of what just happened, I just lost when I know I can beat Mayweather. If his team is good they will use the 2 lbs. catch weight as the reason for his coming up short in the fight and relay the message that he is still one of the best fighters in the world. If it were me I would get an kinesiologist to explain the effects of losing that extra 2 pounds. Then with restored confidence we would look for our next fight.

hecdog – in a fight where he out weighs his opponent by 20+lbs he wins.. otherwise he gets his ears boxed off.

Easy money all day. I said it at all times. Canelo is a good fighter but not a great one, not even close, not yet. He went against the best and looked average…really. I mean he was critiquing Cottos performance against Money but everyone knows that Money had to dig deep to pull that win because that was a fight. This was a walk in the park for Money and honestly he is class by giving Canelo so many accolades when Canelo looked like a rookie in that ring and like a kid in detention during the post fight conference. His confidence is shattered. Still I give him props for bring class act too.

The man has Pride, and he was beaten in all facets of boxing. Hopefully his confidence and pride aren’t destroyed. In a fight, Canelo wins, in a boxing match, well you saw what happened. He’ll be back. hopefully.

If Canelo had any Balls he’d step up and take on GGG, Quillin, Rosado, Lara or any of the others closer to his true size..

He should’ve borrowed MargaCheatos Cement Loaded Wraps.. that would’ve helped him alot.. well atleast now he can get back to doing what he does best fighting 154lb shot smaller fighters while coming into the ring weighing 172+lbs..

It’s amazing that his 165lb fighter got so beat up by a 150lb fighter.. He looks all busted up while Mayweather didn’t even break a sweat.. You could tell Mayweather was backing off of him to give him a chance to fight back when Mayweather was landing unanswered blows on Carrot top against the Ropes.. Same thing Tiny Mosely did in their fight…

You can tell what he’s thinking ” But everyone said I was a Great fighter, what happened???”

Definitely pitched a no-hitter. With knuckle-balls.
