I don’t usually buy the hype with punchers, I have seen a lot get over rated such as Abrahm, Miranda, Pavlick, Sam Peter etc. in the time I’ve been watching boxing but Golovkin strikes me as a Marvin Hagler type fighter who will take it to the very top with his aggression and punching ability. I hate to say it as a Martinez fan but I don’t think anyone at middleweight beats him, not even Martinez now he’s slipped.

I think Chavez jr is getting just too big for middleweights now.

Paulie exposed Broner. How? Where was all that power? How many punches did he eat? Lucky for him, Paulie just slaps. Keep in mind Broner was out to do severe damage and was lucky to eke out a win. GGG’s performance was pure art and brutality. The guy moves like he’s walking on glass. No exertion on power punches. Always totally balanced. Slips punches without fuss. And took some good shots without breaking stride. The guy looks too good to be true! The sad fact is no star will take him on, except the bigger guys.

Mongrel, what’s up? I disagree with you, Malignaggi is much more accomplished and has fought better competition at 140-147lbs than Macklin has fought at 160lbs. Yeah Malignaggi may have lost to those good fighters, but Macklin is well on his way to doing the same!!

Golovkin is a GOOD fighter, but before we ‘knight’ him or crown him, lets see what he can do against ‘A’ fighters. And I’m not talking about welterweights, I’m talking about Quillan, Martinez, Chavez Jr. The fact that he’s calling out Mayweather and NOT Ward is troubling.

Malignaggi was nothing notable at JWW, he ran out of that division after getting used like a rag doll by Khan, Cotto and Hatton. He`d also have been whipped by Alexander, Bradley, Peterson, Matthysse, Maidana, Garcia, Ortiz and possibly even Kotelnik and Judah.

He did one thing at WW and that was beat a totally untested Senchenko who Hatton nearly beat after 3 years out stuffing his nose full of coke and his belly with Guiness. There are likely at least 15-20 guys across JWW- WW’s who would beat Paulie Malignaggi – even Ndou and Cano nearly did it. I mean at WW he`d be losing to FMJ, JMM, Pacman, Brook, all the JWW’s who moved up, Thurman, Berto, Provodnikov, probably Mosely.

Broner let it go to a scrappy SD.

Macklin was very unlucky not to get a decision vs the consensus #2 at the time and longstanding MW champion in STurm. He knocked down and pushed to the wire the #1 middleweight of the time.

Golovkin nailed him in 3.

There is no comparison, Macklin at MW > Paulie at WW.
Name me a list of 15-20 JMW-MW’s who would beat Macklin in better style than Golovkin and I`ll accept the buzz on GGG vs Broner is misplaced.

Disagree old guy. GGG vs Chavez would be a first round KO. Chavez has no chance against this guy. None.

old guy

GGG and Floyd at a catchweight of 156 would be interesting. Also, Chavez Jr. at his best would be a big risk for GGG. Finally, how about GGG and Canelo?

You have to look past a KO ration I agree. However, I have been watching Golovkin for three years now and believe he is an unbelievably talented all round fighter. I would ay only Mayweather is better at this point.

Golovkin is a fantastic technician who is deceptively good in everything he does. His defence is excellent, his foot movement and balance almost perfect, he controls distance and cuts of a ring all with minimum effort. He is efficient but exciting. He doesn’t bother with the flashy stuff or trash talk which is why I guess some doubt just how good he is.
Sure he punches like a mule but watch his balance anf foot movement and ability to pick the right punch.

Only Andre ward beats him at this time providing Ward has a stone advantage, and even then Im not 100% sure. If I’m wrong there is a lot of money to be made by betting against him. 35 years of observing boxing tells me I am watching a potential all time great.

JeffC, Golovkin Is GOOD!! He’s just NOT the 800LB GORILLA that everyone is making him out to be…YET!! After he beats BETTER guys (Quillan, Chavez Jr, Martinez) I would consider him all that!!

I HAVE the same reservations about Peter Quillan AND Adrien Bronner. Quillan fought a WAY past his best Winky Wright and an overhyped Fernando Guerrero not fighters that I would consider elite. But I do think Malignaggi was a MUCH better fighter in the 147lb division than Macklin is in the 160lbs division.

Probably…Andre Ward!!

RJack58: You are doing it again, first you are saying he is nowhere near as good as Andre Ward or Floyd Mayweather, but you want HIM to go to different weights in order to fight them, why? if he has no chance, as you are hinting at, what do they have to lose? just go in and destroy him, IF, they are that much better.

If Golovkin hasn’t fought top level opposition it’s not for lack of trying. He is being avoided. He just needs to continue fighting guys who have their names already out there and established… albeit even if some turn out to be journeyman or former greats past their primes. Eventually… and I’d wager soon than later… Golovkin is going to get the big fight he’s been after.

We AUTOMATICALLY anoint a fighter the BEST without that fighter having FOUGHT any SIGNIFICANT fights!! And then, ANOTHER fighter who has proved himself over and over in the RING throughout his 17year career is BRANDED a FRAUD, cherrypicker. And is EVEN accused of being afraid to fight this GUY, whether or not this GUY is in his weight class or not.

GOLOVKIN hasn’t fought ANYBODY yet, certainly not any elilte fighters!! He want’s to FIGHT Floyd Mayweather Jr – a welterweight instead of Andre Ward a super middleweight??

If he wants to fight Floyd he should DROP down to 147lbs and fight him!!

We will see how he reacts when he gets hit back just as hard. My question is, can he take body shots????? Macklin hit him with a good body shot and he backed off quick.

Golovkin is just as much a ‘hype job’ at this point in his career as Broner is!!

JeffC what’s up? I’m impressed by Golovkin…just not overwhelmed!! GGG is 31 years old and hasn’t FOUGHT anybody!! He want’s to fight Mayweather, not Ward at least not right now. And fans are buying into this BECAUSE they don’t like Mayweather!! If he gets a fight against Chavez Jr – which I doubt cause Arum won’t let Chavez Jr fight him, then good for GGG. If NOT K2 will find another STIFF for GGG to fight!! Macklin was NEVER an elite fighter – he knocked down Martinez twice and still LOST by KO.

Forget the power. This guy was born in the ring. Watch the fight in slow-mo and observe how he stalks his prey and the patience he shows. Broner is a hype but this guy is special. Only bigger guys will be calling him out.

Mr. Jackson, Your “opinion” that if Golovkin keeps knocking out so called good fighters he will eventually lose,is absolutely ridiculous, why? well in the history of boxing, since day 1, we know and accept, that if you keep winning for however long it may be, if you keep on going, someone WILL come along and beat you, that’s just the law of averages, it’s going to happen to Mayweather if he keeps going, and it would have happened to Rocky Marciano had he remained active indefinitely, but as for now, we must admit, Golovkin is certainly a huge puncher, I’m not saying for you to jump on any bandwagon for a winning fighter, but don’t degrade him because he’s winning, so far he’s done all that’s been asked of him, I think you would have got much better respect, if you had kept your opinion until, if and when he does lose, then you had pointed out these facts. Just my opinion.

There won’t be a matter of time, unless he moves up to face Ward.
This guy will destroy Maravilla and Chavez Jr.
