“Licence To Thrill” Weigh-In: David Haye 210-Pounds, Dereck Chisora 247

By James Slater: Moments ago before a large, enthusiastic crowd in London, bitter heavyweight rivals David Haye and Dereck Chisora officially weighed-in for this Saturday’s ten-round battle. With top M.C Michael Buffer having been brought in to oversee the proceedings, the two men who appear to have a genuine dislike for one another took to separate scales.

With a metal fence dividing them, Haye and Chisora watched as the other’s weight was announced. Haye, looking as ripped as ever, came in at an even 210-pounds, while Chisora, also looking in fantastic shape, tipped-in at 247-pounds. There were no surprises over the poundage of either man: Haye weighed a fraction over 210 for his last two bouts – with Audley Harrison and Wladimir Klitschko – and “Del Boy” has weighed in the 240s for most of his pro fights.

Then the traditional face-off took place (albeit with a fence dividing the two men – “there will be no fence between them on Saturday night,” announced Buffer, to loud cheers) and Chisora removed his familiar union jack face scarf to taunt Haye. “I’m coming for you,” Chisora said. “We’re gonna have the same records; I’ve got three losses and you’re gonna have three losses..”

Haye, receiving more cheers to Chisora’s boos, smiled at his rival and turned to face his fans. And that was it; there were no real theatrics and neither fighter got spat at or slapped. How much weight either guy puts on between now and approx 10.P.M U.K time is anyone’s guess (the weigh-in, a day early for some reason).

Chisora figures to have at least 30 to 35-pounds on Haye come fight night, but “The Hayemaker” will certainly be relying on his advantage in speed. And in his raw punching power. Both guys just want to get on with it now, and the fans feel the same way.
