(OXNARD, CALIF.) – The United States and Poland led the participating nations in victories for the second straight day at the Women’s International Dual Series in Oxnard on Thursday. Team USA racked up four victories on day two of competition while Poland once again went undefeated in their dual contests.
U.S. Flyweight Cynthia Moreno (Phoenix, Ariz.) avenged her Wednesday loss to Hungary’s Vivien Mizsei, winning a 25-15 decision in the opening bout of the night. Lightweight Mikaela Mayer (Crest Hill, Calif.) won her first bout of the event as well after dropping her event opener on Wednesday. Mayer claimed a 10-2 victory over Hungary’s Pikacs Mercedesz in the second bout of the night.
Flyweight Tyrieshia Douglas (Baltimore, Md.) and lightweight Stephanie Han (El Paso, Texas) both enjoyed successful event debuts on Thursday after byes in Wednesday’s action. Douglas earned a 20-5 victory over Spain’s Yasmina Musa Amakhtari while Han took an 11-3 win over Canada’s Debbie Richards.
The Women’s International Dual Series will recommence with nine bouts on Friday night at 6 p.m. The action can be seen nightly live at www.usaboxing.org/live. In addition to elite international experience, the competitors have enjoyed multiple visits from prominent women’s boxing figures, including: Laila Ali, Lucia Rijker and Kaliesha West.
