Tuaminator vs Friday The 13th?

Eugene Carnachan – Friday Ahunanya has called out David Tua…or at least his verbose manager Luis Tapia has. Tapia wants the fight in December and has called Tua out on news telecasts here in New Zealand. Tapia enthusiastically waved about a contract for team Tua to sign while loudly proclaiming his charge – Ahunanya – would knock Tua out.

Two years ago Ahunanya dealt Shane Cameron his first loss via a 12th round knockout. Tua knocked Cameron out in the second round a little under a month ago..

Ahunanya is a crafty veteran and would provide stout opposition for the come-backing Tua. More skilful then Cameron and more experienced Ahunanya has fought a far higher caliber of opponent then Cameron.

Camerons manager Kenny Reinsfield stated that he thinks Tua would too knock out Ahunanya. His exact words were “David can knock out anyone”.

There are logistical issues to be worked through if this fight is to come to fruition. Tua has signed a three fight deal with Maori Television thus making the fight prohibitive in that Maori Television can’t offer the fight internationally or on PPV thus negating the broadcast potentiality of this potential match-up.

Also emplaced in the Maori Television contract is Tua or his opponent cannot earn in excess of 50 k. Fighting Tua is a big enough risk. Fighting him for what is tantamount to loose change in the world of professional boxing is a risk not many would take given Tua’s left hook could anesthetize the best chins in the business.

The reason Tua signed this contract was so that he could break his preceding contract with Maori Television thus freeing him up for the Cameron fight.

Tua who has just settled his long standing litigation with his former managers – Kevin Barry, Martin Pugh – simply wants to stay active and fight. However there are a number of obstacles to work through.

This fight happening in December is hard to see but in the world of boxing anything is possible.

Stay tuned for further developments.
