Boxing Movie “Cornered” to be Screened at NaFF

The rough cut version of Cornered, the compelling, documentary from former journalist and boxing agent, Eric Drath, is set to screen at the 39th Annual Nashville Film Festival (NaFF), on Sunday, April 20th @ 5:15 PM and again on Tuesday, April 22nd @ 1:30 PM..

Cornered revisits the Billy Collins Jr. vs. Luis Resto boxing scandal; one of sport’s darkest hours and follows a man’s despairing journey as a result of his alleged criminal involvement in a heinous plot executed during a boxing match at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 1983.

“While we primarily shot in New York City, we felt we owed it to the Collins family as well as the Nashville community at large to screen this groundbreaking film here first. We also spent a lot of time shooting in the Nashville area, and for a story with deep roots here, it really made sense on many levels,” said Drath

Luis Resto had seemingly fulfilled a fighter’s ultimate dream by upsetting the previously undefeated Collins Jr. in June 1983, but Resto’s post-fight victory celebration proved fleeting amongst allegations that padding had previously been removed from his gloves – vilifying his reputation and sending the brutally-beaten Collins into a tragic downward spiral.

For the first time ever, Cornered reveals the whole story behind the infamous Resto- Collins scandal. Shocking new revelations about this boxing match turned thirty minute assault are uncovered – ultimately producing an unexpected twist to finally reveal the real truth behind an unspeakable criminal act. The movie also picks up with the reeling lives of those still affected 25-years-later.

“Based on new information discovered about the true nature of this abominable act and its vile details, lawyers for the Collins family will make a startling announcement at a press conference scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd in New York City, where the full truth will finally come out,” said Drath. Press conference details TBA shortly.

This year, films once again will be screened in four state-of-the-art theaters at the Regal Green Hills Cinemas in Nashville.
