Sky Sports recently launched an online poll, asking fight fans to vote for who they feel is the best of the current British world champions. With an impressive 14 reigning world champions to pick from (an amazing achievement for British boxing; with champions at heavyweight all the way down to bantamweight) fans who voted had a tough task.
In the end, 400,000 fight fans cast their vote and the results came in as follows:
Ghana’s Abraham Osei Bonsu has sworn to overcome all the challenges thrown at him by Jonathan Perez of Colombia and return home with the WPBF Intercontinental Super Featherweight championship when the two fight for the vacant belt in the USA on November 17.
Osei Bonsu (10-1-1, 9 KOs) who is coming off a failed bid for the WBO Africa Super Featherweight title when he suffered his first career defeat to Aphiwe Mbobiya in South Africa last December, says the experience garnered by fighting outside Ghana for the first time will come in handy when he faces 29 year old Perez (35-15, 28 KOs) at the Lakeland Event Centre, Florida.

But Brook – who is either talking a great game that hides his real feelings or is utterly convinced for real that he will win – says he does not care about what Golovkin will be doing in the ring he will share with him in London next month.

Team USA’s Carlos Balderas (Santa Maria, Calif.) joined his roommate in the quarterfinals with his second victory of the Olympic Games on Tuesday morning in Rio de Janeiro. Balderas took on Japan’s hard charging Daisuke Narimatsu in today’s second round competition at the Riocentro Pavilion 6 on day four of boxing competition in Brazil.

There is always reason for concern whenever a big boxing mega event hinges on one or both fighters needing to win a tune-up match prior to the big showdown. An example of this would be when Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins were scheduled to have a rematch, as long as they both were victorious in matches leading up to the desired attraction. Hopkins defeated Enrique Ornelas, but Roy Jones was knocked out in a round by Danny Green. The rematch went on, but lost its luster.

Manchester’s Joe Gallagher has already proven his ability as a boxing trainer, what with great success with the likes of Anthony Crolla, Scott Quigg and the Smith brothers, but the modest coach says his gym, in Bolton, could boast four world champions by the end of the year. Gallagher also said, in speaking with Sky Sports, how he feels he has the right to say his gym is currently the best in Britain and Europe.
