Gennady Golovkin-Dominic Wade on April 23rd - a mismatch or will the underdog rise to the ultimate challenge?

While the entire boxing world waits and waits for the guaranteed explosion that is a middleweight unification showdown between the unbeaten Gennady Golovkin and the once beaten Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, “GGG” keeps himself busy and also deals with a mandatory defence by taking on Dominic Wade on April 23rd.

Golovkin, 34-0(31) will defend his collection of middleweight belts against Wade, 18-0(12) at The Forum in Inglewood, California. As would be the case with nearly every middleweight out there at the moment, Wade enters the fight as a considerable underdog, with some going as far as to call the fight a big mismatch. But Golovkin, who absolutely craves the big fights, as he has made clear time and again, has to keep busy. While Wade, a 25-year-old from Maryland, deserves credit for stepping up and taking a fight with the most feared man in boxing.

Robert Helenius to face former world title challenger Johann Duhaupas on April 2nd

Eric Molina, who hit and hurt Wilder before being stopped in the 9th-round of a game challenge last June, will travel to Poland to face big name and former two-weight champ Tomasz Adamek on April 2nd, while on the same day, Johann Duhaupas will travel to Finland to fight unbeaten contender Robert Helenius.

Initial thoughts on Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan (VIDEO)

YouTube video

When news broke last week that Canelo Alvarez will defend his middleweight crown against Amir Khan this May, the boxing world was taken a bit by surprise. It was already known that Canelo would be defending his title some time in May, probably at a weight limit of 155 pounds. But of all the opponents he could have chosen, Amir Khan was probably the last boxer most fans would have expected. After all, Khan hasn’t had any signature victories at the welterweight limit of 147, and he never even competed at 154. Now he will be challenging Canelo for his lineal middleweight championship.

Frampton-Quigg showdown just days away, promoter Hearn says Quigg will win “a brutal fight”

We are just days away from a fight that was at least three years in the making: Scott Quigg against Carl Frampton in a super-bantamweight blockbuster that will have its venue, The Manchester Arena, rocking on February 27th.

For months and months now, the two unbeaten stars have been taunting one another, with promises of knockouts and of the beaten man being “exposed.” Quigg, trained by ace trainer Joe Gallagher, is convinced he will emerge victorious, while Frampton, guided by Barry McGuigan and trained by his son, Shane, has no doubt it will be he who has his hand raised.
