Manny Pacquiao To Visit Mayweather Jr. In United States

pac04Like an avalanche, the possibility of a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight in the near future is starting to swallow people whole.

After Pacquiao secured a solid victory over Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao fans began chanting an ever ancient, never forgotten mantra of a showdown between Floyd and Manny. Not only was this idea elevated by Pacquiao’s performance, but it was also fed by certain, barely relevant and indirect statements by Top Rank’s Bob Arum, and lately by Mayweather J. himself.

Now, it seems that Pacman is joining in, by suggesting that on his next visit to United States, he intends on meeting with Team Mayweather and discussing the potentiality of the fight.

Meeting The Fury Family

fury565It was in January of 2013 that I first met the Fury family. I’d just beaten the snow out of the UK by twelve hours and was sitting in a freezing Dutch ferry terminal waiting for a lift from Peter Fury – a man I’d never met – to spend a week in the famous Fury training camp in Belgium. The Ferry ride had been tortuous; high seas and an even higher crew had meant a sleepless night and much paranoia. I was the first writer or journalist to ever set foot in the remote Fury HQ. It was a land few had even considered. Rumours of the harshness of the camp had reached my ears, but there was little in the way of facts. I had to see for myself, for good or ill. Two and a half months later, Tyson Fury would bamboozle the American press, beat Steve Cunningham without Peter in his corner, and sing to a bemused Madison Square Garden crowd. I wasn’t to blame.

James Kirkland vs. WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Demetrius Andrade in 2014?

001AndradeIMG_7429After impressively knocking out formerly undefeated Junior Middleweight Glen Tapia this past Saturday night on HBO’s Boxing After Dark, could James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) be looking at an immediate title opportunity in 2014?

Current WBO 154 pound title holder Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13 KOs) could be making his first defense against the Austin, Texas native according to the former Olympian’s co-promoter, Artie Pellulo of Banner Promotions.

“Yesterday I left a message for 50 Cent, Kirkland’s promoter, and offered them the opportunity to face Demetrius Andrade for his WBO Junior Middleweight title,” insists the twenty-five year fight promoter. “Demetrius has to defend his title against the WBO’s mandatory challenger, but I believe I can make this voluntary defense against James Kirkland first.”

Maidana looking to give Broner the toughest fight of his life

YouTube video
LONDON (Dec. 11) – Big-hitting Marcos Maidana is determined to knockout the brash talking Adrien Broner when the pair meet in the ring this weekend live on BoxNation.

The Argentine assassin, who is famed for his ferocious knockout power having put 31 of his 37 opponents to sleep, is extremely confident he can add the name of Broner to that list on Saturday night.

Despite being regarded as the heir apparent to Floyd Mayweather’s throne, Maidana is in no doubt that Broner is a false pretender to that title and has been keen to show him why, ever since both men locked horns during the Shawn Porter and Julio Diaz card in September.

What’s Next for Carl Froch?

froch56236In the aftermath of his controversial 9th round victory over unbeaten George Groves, Carl Froch is left with an array of options. The manner of the stoppage win left many fans with more questions than answers after referee Howard Foster appeared to stop the fight prematurely. Groves protested that he was not that badly hurt and could have recovered, while the Froch camp argues that the referee stole a convincing knockout victory from them. Either way, the ending robbed both fighters of a satisfactory conclusion to the bout.

‘The Cobra’ recently suggested that he would prefer to “move forward” with his career and forget about the quick boxer-puncher whom he defeated in his last fight. Despite many people, his promoter included calling for a rematch, Froch seemingly wants to fight on without ever having to worry about Groves again.

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: Mayweather/Pacquiao, Shawn Porter, Andre Ward’s Contract Dispute, & RIgondeaux!!

pac931Anand G. (San Antonio, TX): Manny Pacquiao is now the mandatory challenger for Floyd Mayweather’s WBC strap. How do you see this set of negotiations going between the two camps now that there’s a governing body both men respect at the center of it?

Vivek W. (ESB): At the core of this drama between the two camps, we’ve seen it all and heard it all, but this new wrinkle marks a first! With Pacquiao being a mandatory challenger, it puts Mayweather in an odd situation. He owns the upper hand at the negotiating table, but does Pacquiao’s mandatory challenger position carry enough weight to force Mayweather into taking a deal that isn’t commensurate to what he rates at this stage of his career? No! Not at all. That said, I do think it serves as a breeding ground for new results. One thing few have considred is the fact that contrary to popular belief, Pacquiao doesn’t have an exclusive deal with HBO.

Bernard Hopkins: “I’d Rather Have Floyd Than That Other Guy [Shumenov]”

the-alien-bernard-hopkinsWhen Bernard Hopkins suggested that he is the only fighter out there that can step inside the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and come out a winner, most boxing fans as well as journalists believed that Hopkins was simply creating waves in front of the microphones and the cameras.

The idea itself seemed not only absurd, but also fictional, like a good story to tell, fantasize about, while being fully aware that it never happened, and never will. The potentiality of this has all the wrong ingredients for Mayweather Jr., with fighters of different ages and different weights, and those that have no similarity in the winding down of their careers.
