Irish warrior Carl Frampton has Tweeted how his anticipated return fight with Mexican warrior Leo Santa Cruz is a “done deal.” Frampton won the WBA featherweight crown with a thrilling performance in a Fight of The Year candidate in New York in July. Santa Cruz, who, in dropping a majority verdict, lost for the very first time as a pro. A rematch clause was in place, Santa Cruz and his team enforced it, and now the rematch is set to go.

So far, no date or venue has been confirmed, but there is talk that the fight may go ahead in Las Vegas, some time in January. Frampton, 23-0(14) wanted the rematch to take place both before the Christmas holidays and in a big stadium in Ireland, yet it seems “The Jackal” will again have to travel to the States to fight, as well as train throughout the Christmas period. The fans, however, will be looking forward to a late Christmas present if the fight does take place in January.

The first fight was great, it was quality all the way, with switching momentums and terrific punch output by both men. There is really nothing to make us believe the return will be any different in terms of providing great action; it might even be a better fight! If Santa Cruz can gain revenge we could be on the verge of a fantastic trilogy. Las Vegas would be a fitting venue for such a fantastic fight, and the fans can be expected to fill whichever arena this fight takes place in.

Santa Cruz, 32-1-1(18) believes he won the first fight (it was scored 117-111, 116-112 for Frampton, with the third judge having it 114-114) and he does have some people who agree with him. The majority of people, however, feel there was nothing wrong with the decision handed in on July 30. It was simply a great fight and now both fighters, the media and the fans can look forward to another slice of incredible, boxing at it’s best, action.

Can Santa Cruz gain revenge? Will there be a KO this time? These questions and more will soon be answered.
