Because we saw a great action fight between two huge heavies, both well above the mid-240-pound range, we saw blood and gore, we saw huge bombs landed, we saw heart and courage on the line, and we were left wanting to see a rematch.

But the biggest reason fans still talk about this fight, won by Lewis via corner retirement on the part of Klitschko at the end of the sixth round, is because we all wonder what might have happened; what would have happened.

I recently came across an interesting statement that the former Iraqi vice president Taha Ramadan made in 2002: “The American president should specify a group, and we will specify a group and choose neutral ground with Kofi Annan as referee and use one weapon with a president against a president, a vice-president against a vice-president, and a minister against a minister in a duel.”

The statement surely resonated with many people around the world because whenever leaders of any individual country decide to go to war it isn’t they who lead the charge on the frontline. Of course as logical as the statement was (as well as absurd in the context of modern society) the ironic fact is when Hussein’s Iraq itself had disputes with other countries no such offers were made to the leaders of those nations (as noted by then white house spokesman Ari Fleischer), and wars were fought, and people suffered.

Of the entire elite roster of professional boxers, Fritz Sdunek had one favorite, one boxer that he loved and cherished as their mutual career took off to unbelievable heights. Like Freddie Roach is a father model to Pacquiao, so was Sdunek to Vitali Klitschko. They not only appreciated each other in a professional setting, but were a true family outside of it.

“I was shocked to find out about Fritz’s death. I cannot believe it. Fritz has gone through many trials in the recent past. He beat cancer, and has gone through a heart surgery. It’s hard to believe that his heart no longer beats. I know many people, but have never met anyone with such a soul, and with such a truly big and kind heart. A heart that warmed everyone around him.

Vitali Klitschko gets nailed with fire extinguisher spray

Former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is finding out the hard way how difficult it is to be a politician in Ukraine. While attempting to break up a large crowd of protesters on Sunday, Vitali, an opposition leader, was booed and sprayed with a fire extinguisher at point blank range by what appeared to be the police. Vitali had a bullhorn and seemed to have peaceful intent in breaking up the crowd but someone wasn’t feeling it because they quickly nailed Vitali with spray from the extinguisher. Once Vitali was out of range, he had to be held back because he wanted to go after the person that had sprayed him.

The protests came about reportedly due to after the parliament had passed some new laws that didn’t go over well with some of the public.

vitali4 I believe that most of us had expected to hear Vitali Klitschko announcing his retirement from boxing sometime soon. And exactly this happened, as Vitali’s political agenda and involvement in Ukraine swiftly took a turn, and required an entirety of his time and attention. Not only is Vitali dealing with a vicious wave of protests, but is also trying to win over the people and the majority vote that would land him in the presidential office.

Many boxing fans had expressed their respect for Vitali and his years of dedication to boxing, still showing that they are pleased that he made space for the younger and possibly more exciting heavyweight fighters out there.

Vitali Klitschko is all but retired – where does “Dr. Iron Fist” rank amongst the all-time heavyweight greats?

As fans know, Vitali Klitschko recently vacated his WBC heavyweight title and declared how he “cannot imagine” a ring return “as things stand now.” So, it seems there is a good chance that at age 42, the elder Klitschko brother has fought his last fight in the ring and can now retire from boxing, his contributions to the sport in the history books.

And Vitali achieved a lot in his 17-year pro career (that included a near four-year inactive period from 2004 to 2008), including winning both the WBO and the WBC crowns. As tough as nails and in possession of one of heavyweight boxing’s most reliable chins, Vitali punched his way to a fine 45-2(41) ledger. The two losses came about due to injury, and what’s more, Vitali was winning both bouts on the scorecards before a shoulder injury forced his retirement against Chris Byrd and before a savagely cut eye forced his retirement against Lennox Lewis.
