In what should turn out to be one of the most interesting boxing matches of 2016 this weekend, WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) will defend his title against the immensely talented challenger Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs). The bout takes place at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be televised on HBO, which will also be airing the replay of the competitive clash this past weekend between pound-for-pound elites Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward.

Lomachenko will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior lightweight title against Walters This Saturday, Nov. 26, at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. It will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 10:35 p.m. ET/PT. This will mark the 2,000th event Arum has promoted, dating back to March 29, 1966, when World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali defended his title against George Chuvalo. The HBO® telecast will also feature the replay of last week’s controversial light heavyweight title fight between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward.

Vasyl Lomachenko, one of the hottest, most supremely talented fighters on the scene today – one of the best fighters he has ever worked with according to Top Rank boss Bob Arum – is set to return to action in Las Vegas on November 26. According to a piece by The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Arum said on Saturday that the reigning WBO 130-pound ruler will fight at The Cosmopolitan with his opponent still to be officially confirmed.
But there are two likely contenders for the shot: Nicholas Walters and Jezreel Corrales. Either of these two, both good, capable fighters, would be decent enough for Lomachenko – who at 6-1(4) has to be THE finest 6-1 fighter in boxing history – but neither guy figures to defeat the Ukrainian sensation. Last time out, in June, Lomachenko scored an absolutely devastating KO over Roman Martinez, in many peoples’ pick for KO of The Year.
It would be a superb match-up between two of the finest boxers currently doing their thing in the lower weight classes, and Yuriorkis Gamboa wants it: a fight with the man promoter Bob Arum has gone as far as to say is the best he has ever seen – Vasyl Lomachenko. Gamboa, back training with Ismael Salas, ha snot fought since December of last year, but he is currently training and a fight will hopefully be announced soon.

The former amateur standout of standouts who is now just seven bouts into his pro career – despite this lack of pro fights the southpaw has already won five WBO title bouts and has captured two world belts – is being looked at by the Top Rank boss as perhaps the most talented fighter he has ever worked with. And the good news for British boxing fans is Lomachenko might be heading to a fight in the UK next year.
Due to his stunning and brutal KO win over the more than capable Roman “Rocky” Martinez, Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko is currently getting all kinds of praise from many people. An amazing amateur talent – wining, amongst other top honours, two gold medals at Olympic level – the 28-year-old southpaw looks set to match his unpaid success in the pro ranks; if that’s possible – 396-1, a truly staggering set of numbers, makes up Lomachenko’s amateur record, after all. At just 6-1(4) Lomachenko has already engaged in six world title fights (WBO) and the man known as “Hi-Tech” has captured two major belts.
Vasyl Lomachenko made history on Saturday night when he defeated Roman ‘Rocky’ Martinez to capture the WBO super featherweight title in his 130 pound debut. For Lomachenko this is only his 7th professional contest, giving him the unique distinction of becoming the fastest fighter to ever win world championship titles in more than one weight class. Lomachenko had previously won the 126 pound version of the WBO belt when he defeated Gary Russell Jr in his 3rd professional match. He defended that title three times before venturing north to challenge Martinez.

Lomachenlo made it look easy in hitting Martinez and rarely getting hit back in this one-sided contest.
