Mike Reed Stops Soto in 2nd; Vows, “Best Is Yet to Come”

By Justin Jones & Paul “Paparazzi” Jones: Washington, DC – Unbeaten light welterweight Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (13-0, 6 KOs) recorded his 13th consecutive victory on Saturday night’s Keystone Boxing “Capital City” Card at the Sphinx Club in DC by seeking and destroying Edgardo “Eddie” Soto (12-9, 4 KOs), 38, in less than six minutes of work. Reed recorded his third and final knockdown – two knockdowns in the first – 2:10 into round two before the referee called a halt to the bout.

There’s no other way to sum up Yes Indeed” Reed’s intent and demeanor other than a man on a mission. As soon as the timekeeper sounded the opening bell, Reed began walking Soto down and landing power punches to the body and head. There was no slow start; no finesse; no feeling out his opponent; it was all business.

On March 14, super lightweight prospect Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (12-0, 6 KOs) takes his unblemished record back to the nation’s capital where he headlines a Keystone Boxing card at the Sphinx Club in Washington, DC.

At just 22 years old, Reed has a ton of upside and he is coming off a 6-0 campaign in 2014. To cap off his win streak, Reed earned a unanimous decision victory in November over ¬previously unbeaten Oscar Valenzuela (8-1-1, 5 KOs) at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Because Reed’s bout was part of Top Rank’s card featuring WBO Titlist Terence Crawford’s (25-0, 17 KOs) near shutout of Raymundo Beltran (29-7-1, 17 KOs), the DC product received some well-deserved exposure that he intends to build on starting with his fight next Saturday.

Atlantic City, NJ – Junior Middleweight Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia (22-1, 14 KOs) continued on the comeback trail with his second consecutive knockout victory stopping Donatas Bondorovas (18-6-1, 6 KOs) in the main event of a seven-fight Top Rank card at the Bally’s Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.

Once again, Tapia showed that working with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has been a worthwhile investment. Tapia, who won via 4th round TKO, looked more patient and calculated in the ring than he did in his previous fight. The Passaic native also worked behind a steady stiff jab from the outset, which enabled him to set up his power shots with precision. Tapia landed thudding right hands, hooks, and body shots on Bondorovas with regularity.

Undefeated Junior Welterweight Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed, 10-0 with 6 KOs, takes an important step in his pro career when he faces Juan Montiel (7-6-3, 2 KOs) this Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The six-round bout, featured on the undercard of the Junior Middleweight matchup between Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia (21-1, 13 KOs) and Donatas Bondorovas (18-5-1, 6 KOs), marks the first contest for Reed as a Top Rank fighter. While there is pressure to validate his signing, the 21-year-old Reed is not concerned about succumbing to it.

Mike "Yes Indeed" Reed Eyes National Spotlight on Saturday’s Top Rank Card — Glen Tapia, Russell Jr., More!

By Paul Paparazzi Jones & Justin Jones – Capitol Heights, MD – This Saturday, Junior Middleweight Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia(20-1, 12 KOs) headlines a Top Rank card against Keenan Collins (15-8-3, 10 KOs) at Bally’s in Atlantic City (NJ). Tapia is determined to rebound with an impressive showing after being stopped by James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) last December in a fight of the year candidate. While the stakes are high for Tapia, perhaps no one on the fight card has more to gain than unbeaten Junior Welterweight prospect Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (9-0, 6 KOs).

Reed, 21, who fights out of Waldorf, MD, will be facing the hard-charging Nicaraguan Alberto Morales (11-3-1, 1 NC, 8 KOs) in a 6-round undercard bout. The contest marks one of the rare occasions that Reed will fight outside the confines of the Rosecroft Raceway (Fort Washington, MD).

Mike Reed Crushes Canales; Signing Nears

Mike Reed Crushes Canales; Signing Nears

By Justin Jones – Fort Washington, DC — Mike “Indeed” Reed hasn’t been as fortunate as some of his peers when it comes to getting signed by a major or even local promotional outfit upon turning pro, but that hasn’t stopped the standout DMV prospect from obtaining his piece of the “attention pie.”

Reed, a Waldorf, MD native, is similar to a small town star who is trying to catch the eye of his big time college coach for a walk-on opportunity, or a free agent trying to secure a new lucrative and long-term contract with a new team. Some would call Reed’s workman-like approach of fighting every couple of months against the likes of other unbeaten competition, or at the very least fighters with the same or more fights under their belt –unlike some of the built up fighters you see today– the “hard way.”

Mike "Yes Indeed" Reed Hammers Regino Canales in 4th Rd TKO

Mike Reed (photo by Justin Jones / ESB) improved his undefeated record to 9-0 (6 KOs) when he took on game opponent Regino Canales in the main event at Rosecroft Raceway Friday Night Fights. The contest was halted by the referee at the end of the fourth when ringside physicians decided it was unsafe for Canales to answer the bell for the fifth round. Shortly after the bout was stopped Regino collapsed in the ring and seemed to have seizure like symptoms. He was taken out the ring on a stretcher and evaluated at Prince Georges County Hospital. I am glad to report that he was treated and released this morning.

Mike stayed behind his high guard and worked his way in with the jab. He was throwing bombs from both hands that connected to the head and body of Canales. Mike dropped Canales in the third round from a combination of punches ending with a right hook. Mike’s defense was on display as well as he made Canales fall to the canvas from missing a wild right hand.

Fort Washington, MD — Light Welterweight Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (7-0, 5 KOs) of Waldorf, M.D. stopped Jorge Marquez (4-2, 2 KOs) of Phoenix in the fifth round of their featured bout on Keystone Boxing’s “Friday Night Fights” card at Rosecroft Raceway. Reed, 21, a decorated amateur with a National Golden Gloves Championship to his credit, put all of his boxing skills on display against Marquez who, prior to this match-up, had never been stopped in his professional career.

Offensively, Reed had everything working for him, alternating between fast combinations to the head and body of Marquez and powerful digs to his opponent’s midsection that appeared to befuddle the challenger in the early going.
