Adrien Broner fans want to see him fight Rios or Garcia next, not Burns By Ed Patrick: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) may wind up fighting a unification bout against WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) next, but that’s not the guy that boxing fans want to see Broner fight. Burns is down in the pecking order in terms of who boxing fans want to see Broner fight, although they do have some interest in seeing that fight. In a poll conducted by RingTV, fans want Broner to fight Brandon Rios or Danny Garcia next followed by Burns.

Here’s the results of the poll thus far:

No doubt the boxing fans who want to see Broner fight Burns are largely from the UK, because the casual fans in the U.S have little idea of who Burns is. That’s not likely going to keep Broner’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions from making a Broner vs. Burns fight if possible, but it should. If boxing fans as a whole don’t have a clue who Burns is then Golden Boy shouldn’t waste one of Broner’s valuable fights by putting him in with a little known fighter.

Broner vs DeMarco Overview

by Dwight Harrison: Before the fight this was looked at as the toughest fight in Broner’s career or at least the toughest since the Ponce De Leon match, a fight that many myself excluded say Broner should off lost. Antonio “ Tony ” DeMarco (28-3-1 21 KO) was widely considered the best lightweight in the world by many and was coming off in off the back off a impressive 1st round knockout off John Molina. Adrien “The Problem ”Broner (25-0-0 21KO) on the other hand even though he was also coming off an impressive win over Vicente Escobedo he has also took some stick, because he failed to make weight and lost the title on the scales and failed to make weight at the second time off trying. The fight was going to be Broner’s last fight in the super featherweight division we were told this meaning making the weight was probably becoming a struggle he is a 24 year old growing man. I do feel that Broner played up to the villain role by tweeting pictures of twinkles as a 24 year old man also i can at test that you still are growing an he was always gonna out grow that weight class and he knew it.

With a record of (25-0-0 21KO) the skies the limit for Broner he’s long been touted as a future ppv star, And its easy to see why he has good defense,technically gifted and has very good power as 21 of his opponents have found out. Brash,Flashy and Confident he adds a colorful character to boxing something that we need more off if i’m honest especially with Floyd Mayweather Jr at the tail end of his career.

Lessons should be learned – Broner stops DeMarco

By Paul Strauss: By now you know, Adrien “The Problem” Broner 25 (KO 21)-0-0 destroyed Anthony DeMarco 28 (KO 21)-3-0 Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, N.J. Over the course of the seven plus rounds the fight lasted, Tony maybe landed a handful of decent punches. The rest of the fight was all Broner. The Problem child shined in his domination of the WBC lightweight title holder, but it really was more of a gift than something earned.

Unfortunately for DeMarco, he fought a courageous but stupid fight. He gave up his height and reach advantage. He failed to establish his jab and punch in combinations. It wasn’t that Broner took it away, he simply gave it away. More over, when he moved (which wasn’t often), he moved to his left into Broner’s power. Most of the time he failed to establish any kind of range or distance beneficial to him.

He fought more like he was about 5ft tall, rather than 5″10″. He was bent over and immobile. He didn’t move from the waist, and didn’t move his head, and more often than not his gloves were not in the correct position to protect himself or to punch. He seemingly forgot a fighter must know what punching distance is for himself and that of his opponent. Tony would consistently go beyond the necessary distance he needed to land shots, and into the range of Broner’s shots.

Broner too powerful for Burns: Will Ricky move up in weight rather than face Adrien?

By Michael Collins: Last Saturday’s 8th round destruction of WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco by Adrien Broner showed me enough feel that WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns would still little if any chance against the unbeaten Broner and that’s who Burns could end up fighting in early 2013 unless he chooses to move up in weight again. That would be a pity to see Burns move up in weight rather than face Broner.

Broner: I’m going to show off more of my skills against DeMarco

(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Rob Smith: Former WBO super middleweight champion Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) intends on showcasing a lot more of his boxing skills in this fight compared to his previous ones when he fights for a title against WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Broner, 23, realizes how much more of a threat the 26-year-old DeMarco is compared to the guys that Broner’s been feasting on during his still young four-year pro career and he wants to make sure nothing goes wrong tonight.

Broner said to Yahoo Sports News “DeMarco fought good guys but he hasn’t fought me. You are going to see a totally different Adrien Broner on Saturday night. I am going to be able to show more of my skills.”

For Broner’s sake he better hope he shows more skills because if he clowns around in this fight or if he stays in 1st gear all night long like he’s looked against some of the weak opposition he’s been in with he’ll end up getting knocked out by DeMarco. This guys is powerful and he delivers his big left hand shots from the southpaw stance and that’s going to be a different experience for Broner because he hasn’t been fighting guys with power lately and he’s been facing a lot of southpaws.

Broner vs. DeMarco: Antonio would be wise to take a page from the Abner Mares playbook

By Joseph Herron: This past Saturday night from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Abner Mares defeated, who most boxing pundits viewed as the 26 year old fighter’s toughest test to date, Super WBA Bantamweight Champion Anselmo Moreno by way of gritty, twelve round unanimous decision.

Many ringside experts felt that the skill level and natural athleticism of the Panamanian southpaw would be too much for the undefeated fighter. But Mares took Moreno out of his comfort zone and forced a more torrid pace than the defensive technician had grown accustomed to seeing.

Abner took away Anselmo’s natural southpaw advantage by bringing the fight to close quarters and touching-up the seemingly untouchable and slippery fighter with a barrage of punches from various angles. Mares’ intent was to hit Moreno anywhere he could, as often as he could, and to force Moreno into fighting a very physical and uncomfortable contest.

On Saturday, November 17th, from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KOs) will attempt to defend his WBC Lightweight title against the very talented, defensive specialist Adrien “The Problem” Broner (24-0, 20 KOs).

Broner vs. DeMarco still set for Atlantic City on November 17th

By Rob Smith the November 17th bout between WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco and Adrien Broner is still set for Boardwalk Hallt in Atlantic City, New Jersey in spite of the damage to the area from the huge hurricane Sandy this past week. Golden Boy Promotions still want the fight to be staged there. The area is pretty wrecked from the hurricane and it’s questionable how many people will show up for the fight.

HBO will be televising the fight, which will also have heavyweight Seth Mitchell facing Johnathon Banks in addition to the Broner vs. DeMarco fight. The Boardwalk Hall reportedly wasn’t damaged so that shouldn’t be a problem. The only question is how many boxing fans from around the area will want to see the fight given the damage that has taken place from the storm.

Broner, 23, is hoping to put on a good performance in trying to grab the World Boxing Council 135 lb title from the more experienced DeMarco. This is the first fight for Broner at 135 and he’s taking on a really tough opponent in 26-year-old DeMarco. This is like going to the head of the class and it’s definitely a risky thing for Broner to be doing. He’s had trouble in the past against tough pressure fighters like Daniel Ponce De Leon, and you’ve got to rate DeMarco ahead of him. Demarco can be a lot of problems for anyone.

Broner to go after Ricky Burns after the DeMarco fight

By Michael Collins: Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) will be targeting WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) after the 23-year-old Broner takes care of business next month against WBC lightweight boxing champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KO’s) on HBO boxing at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Broner’s trainer Mike Stafford said to Bleacherreport.com “We’ll go to Ricky Burns and get that other title. He’ll [Broner] be too fast, too smart and he’s (Burns) not strong enough, these guys are too slow for Adrien. He’s a special guy, a special guy.”

I agree with Stafford 100 percent. I think Burns would be like Jason Litzau, a fighter that Broner took out in a 1st round TKO last year in June. It would be too easy beating Burns. The only advantage thing that Burns has going for him is his height and his weight, but against Broner the weight would be the same for both fighters, so Burns wouldn’t have his customary size advantage. He’d be taller, to be sure, but the reach and the weight would be the same. The height wouldn’t help at all and Burns would just get knocked out quick by Broner.

Adrien Broner – The Making of a Star

By Paul Strauss: Adrien “Problem” Broner is a star in the making. You doubt that? If so, it’s obvious you haven’t done your homework. Look around, read a little and listen to boxing people in the know. You will soon realize the media want this guy to be boxing’s next star. One prime example is Ring magazine’s current edition. It devotes considerable ink to the undefeated youngster from Cincinnati, Ohio.

However, when preferential treatment is allotted, it begs certain questions. For example, “Is all of this attention justified? Does “Problem” deserve all the attention”? The media is in the star making business. Star making “sells newspapers” as the old saying goes. That’s obvious, so don’t necessarily look to them for answers. The media will too often shrug and say what they do is acceptable behavior in modern society. Many in the entertainment business from Mae West to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. have understood that fact and exploited it to the hilt.

The truth is there’s always been a kind of unholy union between a star in the making and the media, kind of a wink wink thing. It’s not a new phenomenon, and in fact unholy unions even exist on a much more serious level with governments.

Broner vs. Burns in early 2013, says Warren

By Michael Collins: Promoter Frank Warren is interested in matching his guy WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) and American star Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) if the two fighters can win their next upcoming fights this year. Burns will be fighting on December 15th, presumably against a top 10 lightweight contender, and Broner will be challenging WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco on November 17th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both Burns and Broner are expected to win their next fights, which could set up a mouthwatering fight between them in early 2013 in February or March.

Warren said to Frankwarren.com “Provided Rickster prevails, I have an understanding with Golden Boy [Promotions] for him [Burns] to lock horns with white hot U.S hope Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner in late February or early March…I’m more than happy for my man to meet, and beat, Broner in a little unifier on either side of the Atlantic.”

Golden Boy will snatch this fight up in a second because this would give Broner a great chance of picking up another world title and putting himself in the position where he’ll have half of the lightweight titles. The only lightweight titles that will be out of Broner’s clutches are the IBF and WBA titles, but Broner can capture those belts as well if he really wants to put the time in going after them.
