Errol Spence's trainer Derrick James says his fighter would KO Golovkin, Brook too

It’s fair to say unbeaten middleweight king Gennady Golovkin received mixed reviews for his largely dominant 5th-round stoppage of a game Kell Brook. Some fans raved over GGG’s power, willingness to rumble and his usual ability at cutting off he ring. Others still say Triple-G got hit way too much, was poor defensively and could not knock his welterweight challenger clean out.

One man who has a vested interest went further in the criticism stakes, much further. Derrick James, trainer of the sensationally talented Errol Spence Junior, told RingTV.com how he feels Brook “exposed” Golovkin, and that his fighter would not only defeat, but KO both GGG and Brook if he got the opportunity to fight them.

Golovkin-Froch: “The Cobra” says he would have won had they warred at super-middleweight

Golovkin-Froch: “The Cobra” says he would have won had they warred at super-middleweight

With former super-middleweight king Carl Froch now happily retired and, having just had a nose job done, in no mood to return to the rigors of the ring, a fight between Froch and Gennady Golovkin is confined to the Dream Fight stakes. But what a great fight it may well have been; almost definitely would have been. Had GGG stepped up (in weight, not in class of opposition) to fight “The Cobra” a couple of years or so ago (a fight that was seriously looked into), and had he fought the way he did against Kell Brook on Saturday night, we would almost certainly have witnessed a brutal war.

Sulaiman says Danny Garcia will defend WBC title in October, face mandatory Khan rematch after that

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman spoke with Sky Sports recently and he stated how WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia will defend his title in a rematch with Amir Khan next year. Sulaiman said that as Khan is currently injured (his hand, which underwent an operation recently) Garcia will make a voluntary defence this October before defending against Khan, the WBC no-1 contender, after that.

“Unfortunately, Amir Khan has an injury in his hand that required surgery so he’ll be out for the rest of the year,” Sulaiman said.

Tyson Fury a no-show at presser, Klitschko says “If it doesn't happen in October, I will wait”

There was a press conference in London today, to promote the return fight between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko, now back on (we hope) for October 29 in Manchester. But only one half of the match-up turned up, as Fury had “car trouble” and was a no-show. Fury is said to have broken down on the motorway, his phone battery dead. Co-promoter Mick Hennessey explained how the unfortunate circumstances were simply beyond the heavyweight champion’s control.

Anger over Chris Eubank Junior’s “shameful” tweet!

Anger over Chris Eubank Junior's “shameful” tweet!

Reigning British middleweight champ Chris Eubank Junior has caused outrage with a tweet he put out regarding Saturday’s Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook fight; or rather the ending to the bout. As fans know, Brook’s trainer and corner-man Dominic Ingle threw in the towel as his fighter, who had sustained a broken eye socket, was taking heavy punishment in round-five.

Eubank, who has again called out GGG (this despite not signing the contract for the September fight in time, thus Brook got the shot instead) couldn’t resist having a go at Brook and his team:

Video - Billy Joe Saunders: Golovkin, no problem at all

Can unbeaten Billy Joe Saunders, the WBO middleweight champion, do something, anything, against middleweight king Gennady Golovkin? Triple-G called out the southpaw last night, just after he had broken and beaten a brave Kell Brook, and Saunders, 23-0(12) has answered in kind, saying on social media how he is “ready when you are.”

Saunders has not yet boxed this year, his last ring appearance coming in December of 2015, when he scored a most impressive points win over Irishman Andy Lee. 27 year-old Saunders is set to see action, against a TBA, on the upcoming October 29 Fury-Klitschko II card in Manchester and after that Saunders says he will be happy to get it on with GGG.

Golovkin – Brook: Brave but broken, Kell Brook will have surgery on his broken eye socket

Golovkin - Brook: Brave but broken, Kell Brook will have surgery on his broken eye socket

Kell Brook gave it a damn fine shot last night, as he challenged the fierce, relentless punching machine that is the unbeaten (unbeatable?) middleweight king Gennady Golovkin. Showing the kind of admirable grit that makes fight fans so passionate about the sport of boxing, the outgunned challenger met fire with fire.

Brook really had no choice but to fight back as best he could, as GGG was soon showing off his superb ability at cutting off the ring, giving the faster Brook no room to work.

Eddie Hearn: They all want a fortune! – promoter says it’s tough getting a foe for Joshua’s November defence

Eddie Hearn: They all want a fortune! - promoter says it's tough getting a foe for Joshua's November defence

Promoter Eddie Hearn has important matters at middleweight to deal with at the moment – namely his fighter Kell Brook’s audacious challenge for the world title against Gennady Golovkin tonight at The O2 – but the Matchroom boss is also working on the next fight for IBF heavyweight ruler Anthony Joshua. Joshua, 17-0(17) will fight in Manchester on November 26th, but so far Hearn has not been able to nail down the opponent.

Speaking with The Express, Hearn said that all three shortlisted challengers: Kubrat Pulev, Bermane Stiverne and IBF mandatory challenger Joseph Parker, are asking for “a fortune.” As a result, Hearn admits it’s been hard getting the opponent nailed down.

Danny Jacobs says he wants Golovkin next

Danny Jacobs says he wants Golovkin next

New York’s “Miracle Man” Danny Jacobs left no doubt in his rematch with Sergio Mora last night. The first fight, one that saw both men hit the canvas before Mora’s ankle turned badly, saw to it that the two middleweights met again. Five knock downs over 7-rounds later, “regular” WBA 160-pound champ Jacobs was both victorious and in a confident enough mood to call out world middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

Jacobs will be a hugely interested observer of tonight’s GGG-Kell Brook fight, and he said last night that as long as Triple-G does as most fans and experts feel he will and defeats reigning IBF welterweight champ Brook, he wants the 35-0(32) pound-for-pounder next.
