LAS VEGAS (April 25, 2011) On Friday, April 29, 2011, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will present Molina vs. Conyers for the second occurrence of the series, “Fight Night at The Cosmopolitan,”to be televised live on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.”
Leon Margules, promoter of the ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” broadcast from the luxurious outdoor deck of The Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, says he is excited to bring fans a can’t-miss main event featuring Chicago’s “King” Carlos Molina and fellow spoiler Allen “The Dream Shatterer” Conyers.
Returning to the scene of his career-defining draw with Erislandy Lara in March, Molina (17-4-2, 5 KOs) will face Conyers (12-4, 9 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout that is sure to bring the action to the heart of the Las Vegas strip.
Molina vs. Conyers serves as the replacement for the originally scheduled Victor Cayo vs. Lamont Peterson fight, which had to be called off due to an injury to Cayo.
“Both of these fighters are coming off the biggest fights of their careers,” said event promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing Promotion. “They both want to continue the momentum they’ve built by scoring another big win and both guys rarely take a step back in a fight. It will be a real treat for the fans. It’s a can’t-miss brawl and we’ve got it!”
The gritty pair are both known for their penchants for pulling off upsets against top-rated prospects. Molina was last seen in March fighting to a draw with Lara, that most observers felt he won. In January of this year, Conyers beat highly touted James De la Rosa by unanimous decision, dropping him three times.
Scheduled for the undercard are undefeated Cuban super featherweight Rances Barthelemy (11-0, 9 KO’s), and Texas lightweight Hylon Williams Jr., (13-0, 3 KOs) in separate bouts.
On fight night, doors will open at 4:30 pm. The first fight is at 5:00 pm and the main event will begin promptly at 6:00 pm.

Female Boxing Definitely a Fact.
The contemporary world, especially the Latin world, seems to have forgotten the reasons for the Holy Week to be kept in remembrance and strengthening of faith after suffering 2,000 years ago the crucifixion of our Jesus Christ – a good man who came to the world to carry the word of our Almighty God and to struggle as a humble man for peace, for the compassion and care for the poor, to pray for the good hearts of mankind, and to leave a legend for all generations to come.
Even those unbelievers cannot deny that millions and millions around the whole world love, respect, and follow the religion and teachings of that kind heart crucified on a cross, to have been the most notable human being ever to live on this world after our millions of years in the universe. Once again, I hope that after these days of reflection we will have a new attitude of mutual understanding, and a new attitude for an ideal of peace.
Back in our life in boxing, I must celebrate with pride the double shining impact of boxing on the same day, April 16, first when World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight world champion Andre Berto, from Haiti, surprisingly lost his title to Mexican-American Victor Ortiz on a unanimous decision, after both having been knocked down to the canvas twice in a 12-round battle that had everybody on their toes. Victor was overwhelmingly happy celebrating having won the green and gold belt that has been his dream.
In Veracruz, Mexico, on the same night, two Mexican female lionesses met in the ring: Jackie Nava, the WBC super-bantam champion for five years, and Ana María Torres, the WBC super flyweight world champion, also for several years, in a bout that ended in a fair draw. It had been myself who had called Ana María the best female champion of the world after her tough but clear defeat of the great German female boxer Alesia Graf, a qualification or appointment that Jackie Nava went to Veracruz to take for herself. With the draw, Ana María confirmed being the best fighter in the world, but there is no question that Jackie Nava won in the ring. The qualification of being the best female professional BOXER in the world, after excelling in the ring with an outstanding performance of excellent boxing! And to think that some wanted to steal from the WBC this fight between two great long-reigning female champions fighting in our home, Mexico!
It is here where I would like to extend my congratulations to my friend Gilberto Mendoza, President of the WBA, for his understanding this attempted low blow and calling me to let me know that the WBA would not approve such a fight, as it might have meant an intromission between two friendly organizations.
All of the above made me remember the almost 17 years of the WBC in female boxing, which was included as an important item of the agenda of the First World Boxing Medical Congress held on the beautiful island of Aruba, organized by the WBC, and from which about 15 rules were implemented to help in the protection of female boxing.
The great WBC title match between the new champion Ortiz and former champion Berto, and this great female bout between two great WBC world champions, Jackie Nava and Ana María Torres show openly that boxing is standing as great as ever, and those two ladies showed that female boxing is absolutely a professional sport, standing at high levels of performance for the benefit of women themselves as well as for the boxing fans of the world, as there are also great female champions in Europe, North America, Asia and Latin America.
At these moments of reflection during the Holy Week, enjoying the pride of that boxing Saturday among many other things, it comes to my mind at this time of my life, that human beings go into a journey through life when we are due to encounter many satisfactions, as boxing has been in my life. We shall meet also triumphs and failures, happiness and sadness, smiles and tears, gratitude and ingratitude, facts and non-facts, loyalty and treason. But the most important is for all to be satisfied with ourselves, for the efforts offered to be what we are; to be sure that we have led our life through solid principles; to feel that we have done everything possible to be of service to others, especially the most needy; to have compassion even for a starving, unhelpful little dog; to have dignity as the only non-compromising value; to love, respect and fear our Almighty God; to love our country as we love our own lives, and to bless all the friends that you have found in your life who have cared for you and who have given us a reason for our lives.

WBA Champion Austin Trout talks about next fight, Mayweather rumors, and more
World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Welterweight Champion Austin Trout is set to defend his title for the first time on June 11, 2011. Since beating Rigoberto Alvarez in February to claim the world title, Austin has been rumored to have many fights in line. Out of all the names, the biggest one was easily Floyd Mayweather Jr. This Q&A goes over rumors, future fights, and Austin’s thoughts about his first fight as the WBA Champion.
Q: Since becoming the champion, a lot of people have called you out. Is there anyone that grabbed your attention more than others?
A: Well Yes! Immediately after beating his brother Saul Alvarez challenged me to fight for my belt, I accepted then and there, although I didn’t agree to going back to Mexico to do it. After winning his WBC title over Matthew Hatton all that revenge talk stopped. I would love to fight Canelo but that wouldn’t be a good career move for him right no
Q: Explain the situation with you and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. If the two of you want to fight each other, what is the problem?
A: I would start with the promoters. In most cases if it was left up to the fighter they would take every fight that was available. Since this is a business, the promoters make the best business move there are to make when matching fighters. Fighting me isn’t a good business decision because I will win and truthfully im not a name big enough to take that chance. Reckon I’m gonna have to beat up some one famous to get my shots at the likes of Cotto or Saul.
Q: There was a rumor that a possible fight between you and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in the works, is there any truth to that?
A: There is some truth to this, my name is in the list of others to fight Floyd. I’m not holding my breath nor waiting for it, if the opportunity presents itself ill take it God willing.
Q: You have been Miguel Cotto’s mandatory for awhile now. Can we expect a Miguel Cotto vs. Austin Trout fight in 2011?
A: Probably not 2011, I’m praying for 2012! Until then I will keep busy and stay getting better
Q: How do you feel, going into your first title defense?
A: I feel good I’ve been training roughly a month already and just excited to get back in the ring aka my office. David Lopez is a good tough strong fighter, and I want to make a statement against him
Q: David Lopez has won his last 16 fights and is ranked as one of the top 15 fighters in the world, how are you going to stop him?
A: I’m going to pick him apart and try to discourage him with counters, and effective aggression, he’s tall so I will have to use angles to get in and stay in
Q: How would you describe David Lopez as a fighter?
A: He’s a brawler with good fundamentals, good chin and decent punch
Q: Is there anything that you want to prove in this fight, if so, what?
A: That I am where I belong, the elite need to be weary of me because I am hungry and coming for the #1 spot
Q: What are your plans after this fight?
A: Another fight with someone famous hopefully
Austin Trout has been one of boxing’s best kept secrets and now he looks to show the world that he is the real WBA champion. Taking on David Lopez (his mandatory) is the first step to showing he belongs with the elite. Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez are on the top of his hit list; however, the main objective is to show that he is the real champion in a stacked division. He can only be avoided for so long until there is ‘no doubt’ about Austin Trout.
