Wladimir Klitschko On David Haye – “This Guy Is Nuts!”

David Hayeby James Slater: Cruiserweight sensation David Haye has made no secret of what he thinks of the overwhelming majority of today’s heavyweight division. “The Hayemaker,” who is soon to launch an all-out assault on the weight class and its fighters, has gone as far as calling men like Klitschko, Peter and Valuev flat out bums. Well, in an interview with Setanta Sports, Wladimir Klitschko, who is in London for a few days, fired back at Haye.

“I met this guy yesterday,” Wladimir told Setanta on April 25th. “I’d never heard of him before, but he was so loud I could’ve heard his voice overseas. This guy is nuts. He’s a nice guy, but he’s so excited about his career and moving up to the heavyweight division and winning all the titles. He’s definitely got a good punch and is a great boxer but he’s just so loud it’s unbelievable,” the IBF and WBO ruler added.

Haye is certainly massive on self confidence, but so far, as good as he’s looked at cruiserweight (with just one win at heavyweight to go along with it) Haye has to prove to a lot of people that he is indeed going to “clean up” at heavyweight. Klitschko, for one, needs convincing.

“He’s built up his name in Great Britain already but he has to make a name for himself in America. He has to have a couple of good fights at heavyweight and, after that, who knows?, Klitschko said. “If he continues to do well then maybe we will fight each other,” Wladimir also said.

It’s quite surprising that Klitschko has never even heard of Haye, at least until yesterday. Considering the amount of fuss many boxing people made after the Londoner’s demolition of Enzo Maccarinelli, and his well publicised plans to invade the heavyweights, one would have thought Wladimir would have at least have heard Haye’s name. But no, Klitschko, who is the general choice for the heavyweight division’s number one, knew nothing of Haye. Still, the best heavyweight in the world right now did suggest the possibility of Haye taking over one day.

“Maybe Great Britain is going to have the next undisputed heavyweight champion of the world,” Klitschko mused. “But only after I retire,” he added with a smile.

The hype is now in overdrive for the day when the huge-punching “Hayemaker” meets the best at heavyweight!
