Ryan Garcia Payday Has Shakur Stevenson Turning Friendly

Shakur Stevenson’s friendly exchange with Ryan Garcia looks like the opening move in a hunt for the commercial jackpot that has escaped him throughout his career.

“Shakur is a real one 🤝,” Ryan posted on X.

“Respect 🤝 The best vs the best gone happen in due time!” Shakur replied.

Shakur picked Ryan to knock out Conor Benn, so his praise did not begin after the result. The contradiction comes from his earlier attacks. He called Ryan overrated following the Rolando Romero loss and criticized him as a “weight bully.” Ryan suddenly looks much more respectable now that sharing a ring with him offers a massive check.

Elite ability has never turned Shakur into a major pay-per-view attraction. Ryan supplies the audience, attention, and money that another title defense cannot provide.

Weight will expose how serious Shakur is. He wanted Devin Haney to meet him at 144 pounds, but Ryan has already refused Gervonta Davis’ demand for a return to 140. Asking Ryan for another catchweight concession would end this discussion quickly.

The matchup carries genuine danger for Ryan. Shakur’s distance, footwork, and defensive discipline can reduce a blockbuster to a cautious tactical fight. That makes Ryan unlikely to surrender anything at the negotiating table. If Shakur wants the payday, he will probably have to take the risk at the full 147-pound limit.
