Three junior middleweight world titles will be at stake when Mayer and Cameron clash in Birmingham
Mikaela Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) will face Chantelle Cameron (22-1, 8 KOs) in a three-belt junior middleweight unification fight on August 29 after choosing not to wait for a potential showdown with Lauren Price. The bout puts the WBC, WBA and WBO titles on the line in one of the biggest fights of the year in women’s boxing.
The bout comes after Mayer opted against waiting for a potential undisputed welterweight showdown with Lauren Price, instead returning to the 154-pound division where she previously held a world title.
“Chantelle has always been a name I’ve hoped to add to my resume and a fight I feel the sport of boxing deserves. With our come forward, aggressive styles, I have no doubt it will be one of the most exciting fights of our generation. Giving the fans the fights they wanna see is what I do best,” Mayer said in a press release.
The 35-year-old former unified junior lightweight champion has spoken openly about her ambitions of becoming undisputed at junior middleweight. A victory over Cameron would move her a step closer to that goal.
Cameron enters the bout after winning the WBC title with a decision over Michaela Kotaskova in April. The former undisputed junior welterweight champion had pursued a third fight with Katie Taylor before agreeing to face Mayer.
Also featured on the card, Ring, WBC, and WBO lightweight champion Caroline Dubois (12-0-1, 5 KOs) will defend her titles against Amelia Moore (4-0, 1 KO).
