Unified lightweight champion names Elif Turhan and Alicia Baumgardner as the fights she wants next
Caroline Dubois says Elif Turhan and Alicia Baumgardner are the two opponents she wants next as she pursues the undisputed lightweight championship. Fresh off her victory over Terri Harper, Dubois says collecting the remaining belts is now her only objective.
Speaking to Fightlens at Crowns Gym Beckenham, Dubuois said: “I’m the unified world champion now. I believe I have the ability to not just beat those girls but to stop both of them.”
Dubois made it clear that collecting the remaining championships is the objective.
“The goal is to become undisputed.”
The Londoner believes those opportunities could arrive quickly as she continues her partnership with MVP, a promotional stable that includes some of the biggest names in women’s boxing.
“We got them all under one banner.”
“In the next couple of years you’re going to see some really exciting fights.”
Dubois has repeatedly spoken about staying active rather than waiting on opportunities and says she is pushing for the biggest fights available.
“I want to be an active fighter.”
“I would hate to be a fighter who fights once or twice a year.”
Among the names at the top of her list are fellow champion Elif Turhan and former unified champion Alicia Baumgardner.
“I want Turhan and Alicia Baumgardner.”
Dubois is not looking at those bouts as close fights either. She believes she has the ability to make a statement against both women.
Elsewhere in the interview, Dubois was asked about a potential showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. The British lightweight backed Joshua but acknowledged the scale of the challenge.
“I’m an AJ fan.”
“It’s a 50/50 fight.”
“AJ just needs to go complete terminator mode and run through that guy.”
After securing a third major world title against Harper, Dubois has publicly set her agenda. The remaining belts are her target, while Turhan and Baumgardner remain among the biggest fights she wants at lightweight.
