Ryan Garcia Camp Sells Mayweather Fight Before Deal

Boxing 24/7 Wire - 10/24/2026 - Comments

Ryan Garcia’s camp is talking up a Floyd Mayweather fight as the richest event in boxing history, even as the proposed bout remains dependent on Mayweather becoming available.

That is a big sales pitch for a fight without an announced date. Garcia’s attorney and advisor, Guadalupe Valencia said on Friday that they hope to arrange a professional contest, with Mayweather’s 50-0 record at stake.

“When Floyd is free from other obligations, we will certainly work to make this fight happen; hopefully real soon,” Valencia said to Mike Coppinger of the Ring.

The wording leaves plenty unresolved. Valencia did not identify those obligations or provide a timetable for clearing them. His comments describe a fight the parties want to make, rather than a completed agreement ready for an announcement.

That did not stop him from setting enormous commercial expectations.

“A fight between Ryan and Floyd would be the biggest-earning fight in boxing history, and would break all viewership records. Period.”

Valencia supplied no financial projections or audience estimates to support that prediction. Mayweather’s name and Garcia’s following give the event an obvious selling point, but declaring records broken before announcing the terms is promotional talk.

The sporting argument is harder to sell. Mayweather turns 50 in February and has not had a professional fight since beating Conor McGregor in 2017. Exhibitions have kept him visible, but they offer little basis for judging how he would perform against an active welterweight champion.

Garcia, 26-2 with 21 knockouts, stopped Conor Benn in September to retain the WBC title he won against Mario Barrios earlier this year. A Mayweather victory would generate attention, although it would reveal little about Garcia’s ability against the best welterweights of his own generation.

The attraction is the chance to put a defeat on Mayweather’s record. That gives the promotion a simple hook, even with the former champion approaching a decade away from professional competition.

Valencia insists that record would be available.

“This would only be a real fight — not an exhibition — with Mayweather’s 50-0 on the line.”

Those terms would give fans something more concrete than another exhibition. First, though, Garcia’s camp needs Mayweather available and a deal completed. The record-breaking promises are already arriving. The fight announcement still has to follow.
