Luis Nery Faces John Riel Casimero on June 6 in Japan

Luis Nery will return to Japan on June 6 to face John Riel Casimero after 3150Fight confirmed the bout for its Aichi event. The matchup strengthens a card that already includes two IBF title fights and adds another fight with name value.

The fight had been postponed three weeks ago after organizers cited “international instability,” but it has now been restored to a card that was already one of the stronger non-major shows on the early summer calendar.

Two IBF title fights are already scheduled for the event. Willibaldo Garcia is set to defend against Andrew Moloney, while Masamichi Yabuki meets Rene Calixto. Adding Nery-Casimiro gives the card another fight with name recognition.

Nery (37-2, 28 KOs) remains a notable figure in Japan because of his complicated history there. He was banned after failing a drug test tied to his first win over Shinsuke Yamanaka and then missing weight for their rematch. The ban was later lifted, clearing the way for his 2024 showdown with Naoya Inoue. Nery dropped Inoue early before being stopped, but his performance showed he could still compete at an elite pace.

Since that defeat, Nery has rebuilt with wins over Kyonosuke Kameda and Sathaporn Saart. At 31, he is the younger man and appears to have more left physically.

Casimero (35-5-1, 24 KOs) turned 37 in February and has fought three of his last four bouts in Japan, including a knockout over Tom Mizokoshi in Aichi last December. He still carries dangerous power and veteran timing, though recent fights have also raised questions about pace and weight management.
