Hearn says Matchroom will not match recent purse levels as Bill Haney fires back on social media

Bill Haney has hit back at Eddie Hearn after the Matchroom promoter ruled out paying top-tier money to sign Devin Haney. The response reopens tensions between the sides and casts doubt over any return to Matchroom.

Hearn said this week that he did not see a financial path to bringing Devin Haney back under the Matchroom banner at the type of purse levels attached to recent Saudi-backed events. That drew a public answer from Bill Haney on social media.

Bill Haney argued that Devin joined Matchroom during its U.S. expansion and helped build its position in that market.

“Matchroom wasn’t #1 when we signed.
Now you are.
Growth like that comes from the right partnerships.
We stood with you when it mattered, but loyalty was never reciprocated,” said Bill Haney on X.

The post appeared to push back on Hearn’s suggestion that Matchroom no longer needs Devin commercially because of the depth of its current roster. Bill’s argument was that Devin joined during an earlier phase of Matchroom’s U.S. expansion and helped raise the company’s profile in the American market.

That leaves Devin Haney’s next move tied to which promoter is willing to meet his price.

Devin Haney previously fought under Matchroom before later moving into other promotional arrangements, including the run that led to his undisputed title win over George Kambosos Jr. That history has made the loyalty debate complicated, with both sides able to claim they moved when business suited them.

If Devin Haney wants the biggest available purses, other routes may exist. If Matchroom wants value, it may not see him at the number the Haney side expects. Deals like this are decided by purse size, and right now the two sides do not appear aligned.
