Golden Boy’s future Hall of Famer, Bernard Hopkins, is predicting that their fighter – IBF 160lb champion David Lemieux – has the necessary tools to make Kazakh knockout artist Gennady Golovkin truly uncomfortable when the two big punchers clash in their huge HBO PPV unification fight on October 17th at Madison Square Garden.

Speaking via fighthubtv, Hopkins – who intends to fight on himself in pursuit of a 168 lb world title of his own – said of his fighter and what they expect on the night.

“He’s [Lemieux] sharp, his weight is good, he has the right mindset and when all is said and done he’s gonna go in there and do what he has to do, which is be aggressive, be smart and take his toll on him. [GGG].

“He [needs to] make triple G feel uncomfortable for one of the very first times that he’ll have felt that uncomfortable in the ring, and we’re gonna see if he [Golovkin] can make those kind of adjustments -if he do we still in for a good fight and I’m looking for my guy to win and win big,” Hopkins said.

Lemieux will walk into the Garden as a betting underdog, in much the same way as all of Golovkin’s recent opposition, although Hopkins feels that many of these fighters were intimidated before the first bell even sounded – something he says will not be a factor with the French-Canadian.

“Most of the people who fought triple G, say 60-70% of these people just wanted to survive and they came in scared and waiting to get knocked out. David Lemieux, whether to his positive or to his negative, he won’t be one of those type of guys,” B-Hop added.
