Callum Simpson reclaimed the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles Saturday night at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds, outpointing Troy Williamson over 12 rounds of sustained brawling.
The scores were 116-112, 117-112 and 115-113, though the numbers hardly reflect the action inside the ring. Long stretches took place at point-blank range as both men traded combinations while battling for position.
Simpson set the pace early. Instead of giving Williamson room to attack like in their first fight, the Barnsley fighter brought the fight directly to the former champion from the opening bell.
The third round saw Simpson’s best work. After hurting Williamson badly, he launched a heavy barrage that forced Williamson to hold on until the bell.
Williamson refused to go quietly. He found success whenever he drove Simpson backward, turning the bout into a crowd-pleasing war where neither fighter yielded ground.
Simpson maintained a high output throughout the night, with Williamson answering him until the exchanges ended in clinches. Once separated, both immediately resumed trading.
The risk for Simpson remained high throughout. Williamson had dropped him four times before stopping him in the 10th round of their December 2025 encounter in this same building. Simpson had every reason to stay on the outside, yet he spent much of the night fighting in Williamson’s comfort zone.
This time, Simpson absorbed the punishment without losing control of the fight. His physical strength helped him during the inside exchanges, while his volume allowed him to get the better of enough rounds to build a lead.
Williamson pressed for a finish through the 12th round, but a repeat stoppage never came.
Simpson walked away with the titles and his revenge, while the Leeds crowd witnessed a domestic brawl that stayed electric until the final bell.
