The 22-year-old prospect used speed, footwork and combinations to secure the biggest victory of his career

Ashton “H2O” Sylve scored the biggest win of his career Friday night, outpointing former world champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz over 10 rounds in Long Beach, California. Sylve’s speed and combination punching carried him to a unanimous decision victory by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93.

Sylve used his youth, speed, and superior footwork to control much of the contest. The 22-year-old prospect repeatedly beat Diaz to the punch with sharp combinations and clean straight shots while using movement to keep the veteran from establishing sustained pressure.

Diaz remained dangerous throughout the fight and had several strong moments of his own. The former world champion continued to push forward behind his pressure style and landed some solid left hands, particularly during the middle rounds when he enjoyed his best success of the night.

Despite Diaz’s efforts, Sylve consistently found answers. He mixed body work with quick combinations and frequently exited exchanges before Diaz could respond. His faster hands and ability to fight at his preferred range allowed him to bank rounds as the contest progressed.

The fight remained competitive entering the later rounds, but Sylve finished strongly. His cleaner punching and ring generalship helped him pull away on the scorecards during the championship rounds, preventing Diaz from mounting a late comeback.

There were no knockdowns during the bout, but the action stayed entertaining throughout the full 10 rounds as both fighters exchanged at a steady pace.

For Sylve, the victory represents another positive step forward following his 2024 knockout loss to Lucas Bahdi. Facing a durable former world champion, he showed patience, composure, and defensive discipline while collecting one of the best wins of his professional career to date.
