Haye not convinced Fury-Klitschko rematch will go ahead in Manchester on July 9th as announced

As fight fans are probably aware, Peter Fury, trainer and uncle of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, announced yesterday that the awaited return fight with Wladimir Klitschko will go ahead in Manchester on July 9th. Numerous web sites ran the exciting news story, but it seems not everyone is convinced the fight will actually happen in Manchester, perhaps not even on that date.

We have yet to hear or read any official announcement from Klitschko or any member of his team, and this has led to some doubts that the fight we have been waiting for is as cut and dry as Peter Fury says it is. Of course, all British fight fans and hoping the fight will go ahead in the UK, as this would be a huge event. And in terms of a second Fury win, home advantage would be a big plus for the 27-year-old.

It looks as though Shannon Briggs has finally talked, harassed and pestered his way into a big fight and the big pay day that will go along with it. Britain’s 5 Best Heavyweights Ready to Stamp Authority over Post-Klitschko Era

It’s been 18 years since London-born Lennox Lewis tore the lineal title, in March 1998, from Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs, to add to the WBC belt he already owned. Back then, former world title holder Frank Bruno had not fought for two years, but Norfolk’s Herbie Hide still held the WBO strap, he’d won from Tony Tucker the previous year. The mid-late 90s is possibly the most successful spell in British heavyweight history, but now, in 2016, the United Kingdom’s current crop of heavyweights are looking to change that.

Lucas Browne says David Haye is “Full of s**t!”

As fight fans have probably read, come-backing former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye has announced how he is “in talks” with new WBA belt holder Lucas Browne and is hopeful he might fight him in his second return fight, set for May 21st at The O2 in London. However, Browne, who is obliged to fight Fres Oquendo as per the WBA’s tournament designed to finally crown just one man as their heavyweight king (there are currently three men staking such a claim: Browne, Tyson Fury and Luis Ortiz) took to Twitter to shoot down Haye’s talk.

In his own colorful, no-nonsense way, the unbeaten warrior known as “Big Daddy,” wrote the following in response to Haye’s claims:

David Haye confirms that he is negotiating with Lucas Browne

David Haye: “I do have an opponent, but I am holding off a few days to try and secure Lucas Browne. It seems after speaking to Team Hatton that the possibility of Lucas Browne being available to fight on May’s Haye Day show against myself is a possibility. That possibility comes down to a few things and top of that list is money. Next week I will be getting some numbers from terrestrial television stations, hopefully those numbers will be attractive enough to lure Brown back to the UK, to allow me to challenge for his WBA Championship, my old WBA Championship. So I am really excited about it. Nothing is done until it is done.”
