Stieglitz defeats Khomitsky

YouTube video
Former WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (47-4, 27 KOs) got himself one step closer to a fourth fight against Arthur Abraham by halting 39-year-old #7 WBO Sergey Khomitsky (29-11-2, 11 KO’s) at the 10th round to win the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super middleweight title at the Anhalt Arena, Dessau, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

The fight was halted at the start of the round due to a cut that Khomitsky had suffered on his head from what appeared to be a head-butt from the numerous clinches that Stieglitz had initiated in the fight. The referee ruled the cut caused by a punch though and that gave Stieglitz the advantage.

Khomitsky was the more powerful puncher of the two by far, as he nailed Stieglitz with hard hooks to the head in the first could of rounds each time he could get within punching distance.

Robert Stieglitz vs. Sergey Khomitsky tonight in Germany

Robert Stieglitz vs. Sergey Khomitsky tonight in Germany

Tonight former WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (46-4, 26 KOs) has a very tough test on his hands in facing #7 WBO Sergey Khomitsky (29-10-2, 12 KO’s) in a scheduled 12 round bout at the Anhalt Arena, Dessau, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

Stieglitz is still reeling from having lost his WBO strap in his last fight against Arthur Abraham four months ago in July in losing a 12 round split decision. Stieglitz wants another chance against Abraham to try and regain his WBO strap, but for that fight to happen, Stieglitz needs to beat Khomitsky tonight and possibly Gilberto Ramirez if the WBO forces him to fight in a WBO eliminator bout before he can fight Abraham again.

Pulev: I will get Wladimir’s titles and replace him as World champion

Pulev: I will get Wladimir’s titles and replace him as World champion

Bulgarian heavyweight Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KO’s) believes that he’s got the talent to beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) and take away all of his 4 world titles in their fight on September 6th at the O2 World Arena, Altona, in Hamburg, Germany.

While the 33-year-old Pulev hasn’t fought anyone good enough to give you any kind of indication that he’ll be able to beat Wladimir, he still comes across like someone who is dead certain that he’s going to be victorious over the 38-year-old Ukrainian.

Brähmer defeats Bolonti; Price beats Zavorotnyi

Brähmer defeats Bolonti; Price beats Zavorotnyi

WBA light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (44-2, 32 KO’s) retained his WBA 175lb title with a 12 round unanimous decision win over Robert Bolonti (35-3, 24 KO’s) on Saturday night in a largely one-sided decision at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Braehmer did little more than jab and grab for 12 rounds to get an easy win over Bolonti. Braehmer didn’t have to worry about anything big coming back at him because Bolonti didn’t have the power or the size to make a fight of it. He looked like an averaged size middleweight trying to fight at an aging light heavyweight in 35-year-old Braehmer.

The final judges’ scores reflected the mismatch with the judges scoring it 118-109, 119-109 and 119-108.

Povetkin Destroys Charr in 7 – Boxing Results

Povetkin Destroys Charr in 7 - Boxing Results

Alexander Povetkin (27-1, 19 KO’s) administered a beating to a badly over-matched Manuel Charr (26-2, 15 KO’s) on Friday night in winning by a 7th round knockout at the Luzhniki, in Moscow, Russia. Povetkin hit Charr with a left uppercut that split his guard in the 7th.

Povetkin then followed up with a three punch combination that knocked Charr down flat. The last punch of the combination was a right hand that knocked Charr’s head sideways from the impact. Charr was already falling at the time and completely defenseless and badly hurt, but Povetkin looked like he didn’t want to take any chances that Charr might get back up.

YouTube video

Povetkin really had his way in this fight with his good footwork and combinations on the inside. He did a good job of planting himself in close to Charr and working him over with body and head shots.

Abraham defeats Sjekloca with one arm

Abraham defeats Sjekloca with one arm

Fighting with just his left hand, WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (40-4, 28 KO’s) successfully defended his WBO 168lb title with a 12 round unanimous decision win tonight against an over-matched and terribly limited 35-year-old #12 WBO Nikola Sjekloca (26-2, 8 KO’s) at The Velodrom, Prenzlauer Berg, in Berlin, Germany.

The final judges’ scores were 116-113, 116-112, and 119-110 for Abraham. Sjekloca fought well enough to lose by a 116-113 score, but definitely not 119-110. That was way too wide of a score for the fight that took place tonight.

Abraham faces Sjekloca tonight

Abraham faces Sjekloca tonight

(Credit: Thomas Goos / Team Sjekloca) WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (39-4, 28 KO’s) will be making an optional title defense tonight against #12 WBO Nikola Sjekloca (26-1, 8 KO’s) in what hopes to be an entertaining fight at The Velodrom, Prenzlauer Berg, in Berlin, Germany. It’s not a particularly interesting fight because Sjekloca has little to no power to speak of, and he’s only fought one good opponent during his career in Sakio Bika, who beat him soundly.

Abraham recently won back his WBO title with a victory over Robert Stieglitz last March, and now Abraham is taking an optional title defense before he faces Stieglitz likely for a fourth time in either late 2014 or sometime next year. Stieglitz needs to win at least one of two fights before he can get a fourth fight against Abraham, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to be asked by the WBO to fight his way to another shot at the title.
