Even when Broner got into it with Robert Guerrero he said he could make 150+ easily even said he weighed 154 while he was talking. So Broner you said it yourself, and everyone knows the outcome of you staying in that division so go ahead and do us a favor. Your losing more fans than your gaining

Posted March 5, 2013 1:24 pm

I never belived in all that weight jumping . all of a sudden the guys at the next division are to big if the guy dominates 135 thats ok . same with that catch weight bs some one is either to big or weight drained .

Amir khan will dismantle his midget ass…

Posted February 5, 2013 3:17 am

He will never be a PPV king like Mayweather. His 15 minutes of fame are almost up…..

Posted January 26, 2013 10:35 am

Who cares about discussing a guy who had ONE fight at 135 going to 154? Call me when he wins his first fight at 147 or even fights there and this conversation will take on more relevance.

Posted January 15, 2013 10:12 am

Mike J

I dont take issue with this at all. Look at guys like Mosley, Duran, RJJ, and Calz, even Hop to a certain extent…they dominated divisions that overall werent that talent rich, then moved up later in their respective careers. We give them a lot of respect for that. Broner will be fine and will move up when he’s ready. Boxing fans bag on fighters who DONT clean out a division before moving up, so much respect to Broner.

Posted January 15, 2013 6:13 am

Broner should want to be as Great as possible. Fighting against 147 and 154 pounders isnt a different Sport. Its still Boxing. There IS a reason to believe that Broner can last more than a minute vs 154 pounders. He is BETTER than everyone at 154 besides Floyd. The EXPERTS at Ring Magazine and I SEE EYE to EYE on that. Also the History of the Sport SEES EYE to EYE with me as the BETTER Fighter wins most of the time when facing someone within 20 lbs of themselves.

Posted January 14, 2013 9:07 pm

AGAIN Broner SHOULD do EXACTLY what he wants to do and there is NO reason to think he will last a minute at 154, he has not even fought at 147… We will see where Broners talent takes him but jumping divisions too soon might not be his destiny, nor should it be unless the ends justify the means…Everyone saying “you should move up” is NOT really good enough, the guy had ONE fight at 135, let this kid have a couple more then make his OWN decisions..

Posted January 14, 2013 6:47 pm

The kid is good but, he’ll nver be a PPV attraction.

Posted January 14, 2013 6:41 pm

140 is only 5 freaking pounds more than 135. Why in the heck would anyone think that Broner cant beat a guy who weighs in 5 lbs heavier?? I can SEE why Golden Boy doesn’t want him facing 140 pounders because they have quite a few rising stars there that would get derailed. But Broner shouldnt Fight them all. He should just face the Top guy after he disposes of Gamboa.

Posted January 14, 2013 4:48 pm

Correct. Broner should bow down to NO one or NO thing. He should rise UP to the occasion and face the BEST Fighters in his weight range which is 116-154. He can easily face and BEAT anyone at 140 while weighing in at 135. Thinking that it could ruin him is a Loser’s way of thinking. So pessimistic. Winners think about how Great they will be after Victory….If fighting and defeating the WW CHAMP while weighing in as a LW didn’t ruin Henry Armstong them surely facing and defeating a 140 pounder while weighing in at LW shouldnt ruin Broner…Guys use to face Bigger guys on a regular basis in the past but unfortunately for us we live in the SISSYFIED Era. Where the Fans will CRY if a guy is even 5lbs Bigger than another because they are ignorant to the History of Boxing.

Posted January 14, 2013 4:42 pm

Broner should NOT bow down to pressure to move up in weight, boxing is NOT a game if he is comfortable at 135, then he should dominate at the weight till he feels it is time to move on.. ALOT of people have allowed the success of Pac Man and other scale climbers dictate the course of the sport for other boxers which is nonsense. You don’t have to fight in 5 weight classes or more to be great even though its a major feather in your cap if you do…Broner is a young fighter and trying to ruin himself and his earning prospects is simply foolish this early in his career….

Posted January 14, 2013 10:18 am

There is no way he makes 147 he is small he goes to 140 its over alvarado will give him a good bang broner would win but get cut rios would beat him just apply pressure mythysse would destroy him he will handpick till he retires.

Posted January 14, 2013 9:44 am

Despite the swag braggart crap he looks good but his chin hasn’t been tested yet. Although he “looks” like Mayweather he is not Mayweather and he DOES get hit. He called out Marquez after his last fight. There, he will get hit. We will then see if that SWAG smile and shrug lasts through vicious counter punching right on the button !

Posted January 14, 2013 8:56 am

Gamboa or Mikey Garcia would easily beat Broner

Posted January 14, 2013 8:49 am

This writer right tho i like broner an i don’t think he ducking but he hurt himself by coming up an weight an challenging the absolute best at the division.Cuz now he has 2 go down in competition instead of starting with maybe the 3rd best an workin up.Bad promotional move

Posted January 14, 2013 5:12 am

Article was written by a Broner hater, PERIOD. Broner wanted Burns but he is not the one that does the negotiating. When he couldn’t he got Rees. May 4th he will still fight again. This writer or whatever he calls himself is nothing but a hater. Burns could be iced on the bigger stage in May. He whipped De Marco now he will whip Rees then later on Burns. By the way the only guy to give Broner problems at 140 divions in 18 months is Lucas. After that he will also get beat by the problem. From 135lbs to 154lbs nobody jabs better that this boy. The swag braggart crap I also can’t stand but the boy can fight.

Posted January 14, 2013 3:18 am

Broner can beat everyone at 140 while weighing in at 135 himself. In FACT he should do it and become the youngest to ever hold titles in 2 weight classes simultaneously.

Posted January 14, 2013 2:25 am

Broner will get killed fighting the best at 140, 135 is his weight but there are good talents making there way to broner chelo gonzalez doesnt have skill like broner but he has way bigger frame n that can play a lil part burns is hard to hit and elusive broner good but not future of boxing neither is kieth thurman .

Posted January 13, 2013 10:30 pm

Broner doesn’t want to fight above 135 lbs but he has called out Pacquiao twice (because Pacquiao is on the decline), so what weight would he expect for a fight with Pacquiao?

Posted January 13, 2013 8:43 pm

im glad he is willing to mix it up and trade punches more than Floyd even thoughg he copies PBF’s style. Way down the road I think he has the potential of bein one of the next fighters who can bring big PPV money He has the talent and physical attributes to do so. Lets just see how he handles things mentally as his noteriety grows. I do really wish he would stop the hair brush thing, its not funny, not cool, makes him look f…ing ignrant. Anyway I dont think its a huge deal if he takes his time a bit. As long as he is doin it for the rite reasons not because hes a va j j then its all good.

Posted January 13, 2013 6:23 pm

Broner is special so let’s not ask him to move up to some REAL challengers.
Same thing with Floyd: Oh we know he is better than Pacquiao so why should he prove it by actually BOXING him? Right? OH YEA OOOKKKK

Posted January 13, 2013 4:22 pm

B Red

The big fight at lightweight for Broner is Gamboa. I see that fight happening next year.

Posted January 13, 2013 4:04 pm

Seems to me that commentators and writers are the ones that are more interested in Broner moving up in weight. Based on the responses, most fans are in agreement with Broner’s approach. In boxing, you have very talented guys that prove it by taking on the best within their weight class and sometimes you have guys that talk like they are very talented and do not back it up. While Broner is a talker, he has taken on the best and wants to unify the division… nothing wrong with that.

Posted January 13, 2013 12:44 pm

He already got De MArco out of the way…bring on the rest of em..

Posted January 13, 2013 12:33 pm

Let see if he does what he says…clean out the division! Start with Rees, Vasquez would be a interesting fight, and Burns, should be able to do that in a year if they really want too. Would love to see Gambo move to 135 and try Broner, Would be good to see see Adrian fight someone with equal speed, and power.

Posted January 13, 2013 12:24 pm

That’s what Beoner should do. He needs to clean out the division even though there are not a lot of good fighters. He needs to get the Ring belt, defend it a couple times then move to 140 and do the same

Posted January 13, 2013 12:18 pm

let him do his thing at 135, whats the rush? get a few defenses and then move up.

Posted January 13, 2013 10:49 am

Ray Ray

Exiled yank- I agree Broner needs time 2 build his body. He’s also said he wants 2 unify. The lightwieght devision is a prestigious 1 I have no problem with him wanting 2 unify at this weight. I also don’t agree with no talent there’s heaps of gd guys there. The guy that write this simply isn’t a Broner fan. Iv got no doubt In time he will step up he’s still so young

Posted January 13, 2013 9:57 am

Exiled Yank

I think he’s wise to settle in a bit before moving up. It’s not like he’s touting his decision as being an ATG, he’s simply letting his body adjust and moving as he ages. He’s young, give him time.

Posted January 13, 2013 8:33 am

manny is 5’4 max he looked small vs Hatton whos 5’6 for real.

Posted January 13, 2013 3:45 am

He only had one fight in the weight class and took on the best available fighter. Can you cut him some slack if he wants to let his body become acclimated to fighting at a higher weight class. So what if he comes into his fights at 140- 145, all fighters rehydrate and come in the ring heavier than they weighed in. If he moved up now to face some of the people named in the article he would be at a significant disadvantage facing guys that would weigh more and are used to fighting at the higher weight. Can we allow him to naturally grow into a higher weight class without criticizing him.

Posted January 13, 2013 1:35 am

I will knock you clean out, like Haye.

Posted January 13, 2013 12:30 am

Broner is still young and even though he wont admit it, his confidence hasnt reached that level yet, Give the boy some time he will dominate at 130 and have no options other than to move up, I think one day he could even do damage at 147lbs with the big dogs but he is still a pup right now…

Posted January 12, 2013 10:56 pm

manny and mosley were like 5,6 to 5,8 he should fight everybody from 130-140. absalutly no reason not to,

Posted January 12, 2013 10:39 pm

The Best!

psy- any of those guys you mentioned at 140 Lucas or Brandon would put a hurting on Broner, and Garcia would probably hurt him as well. Obviously him and his people are a lot brighter than you.

Posted January 12, 2013 10:01 pm

The Best!

Very wise of him and his people because there are at least 2-3 dogs that will punish him very bad at 140.

Posted January 12, 2013 9:58 pm

Anyone who says Broner is a “hype job” doesn’t know anything about boxing. All it takes is to watch Broner do what he does to say WOW this kid IS good.

Posted January 12, 2013 8:26 pm

Well said UJelly.! After JUST moving up to 135 and destroying the top dog in DeMarco, Broner has every right to stay put. He can tell some of those guys at 140 if they want a challenge and a shot at a belt, to come on down, to 135.

Posted January 12, 2013 8:22 pm

Sorry, but weighing 145 on fight night does not make a welterweight, especially for a relatively inexperienced guy like this (i.e. do you think Pac or Mayweather ever entered the ring at 130 when they were super-feathers?)
Broner is right… he’s new at 135 and needs to become accustomed to this weight before going elsewhere. And the guy is only 23… at that age, Floyd was still defending the original 130lb title he’d won, and Pacquiao (who had a 2 year headstart) was just getting his second major title in as many divisions. So Broner’s career progression has been in no way slow.
Besides, if he moved to 140 and then Gamboa stepped to 135, everyone who is clamouring for Broner to lose a fight would start screaming “He moved to 140 to run from Gamboa!”. It’s a no win situation when it comes to fans who only want to see you lose.

Posted January 12, 2013 8:07 pm

Rees is a former world Champion and will give the talented Broner a tough and different test than he’s faced before. I expect him to win but it won’t be the walkover those, who know little about Rees, expect!
Beyond Rees Ricky Burns can cause Broner massive problems. Already a 2 weight world champion, Burns excellent boxing and footwork could set it up as another Calzaghe Vs Lacy where the overhyped American gets more than he bargained for!
I expect Broner to become a multiple weight, multiple time world champion. Right now however iMO Burns wins and he moves onto 140 as undisputed champion. Should be an excellent fight either way!

Posted January 12, 2013 7:25 pm

Rios and Khan have already been exposed, Garcia’s only big win was against a hype job, and Mathysse couldn’t beat the shell of Zab Judah. I don’t see 140 being any better than 135, probably worse.
Broner is doing the right thing, try to clean out his division, then move. Ignore the casual fans, they will pay anyway since they don’t know any better.

Posted January 12, 2013 7:09 pm

With Broners special talent and boxings pathetic matchmaking id luv to c Broner take on the best in the sport but i dont blame the kid 1 bit for taking his time atleast he fought Demarco so imo hes not being as protected as Canelo. As good as Broner is we cant forget how young he is and can learn a thing or 2 more w.w has some really talented fighters.

Posted January 12, 2013 6:18 pm

That’s too bad. At least Mayweather had some competition at the lower weights. However, Broner is different from Mayweather. He punches harder, but he also gets hit more. I think if he spends this time honing his defensive skills, then maybe it’s better for him to stay at 135. But if he doesn’t, the big punchers at 140 will eventually get to him.

Posted January 12, 2013 6:02 pm

nothing wrong with staying at 135 weak or not but the thing is they are saying he is a great , great fighters fight floyd and manny and shane and so on

Posted January 12, 2013 5:58 pm

i’ll give a pass for now, on the basis that he just got there and he’s young so he should let his weight develop gradually. staying in this weak division is no wher near as bad as having a belt and avoiding other fighters in the same division……
As long as he doesn’t split as soon as a dangerous feather weight moves up.

Posted January 12, 2013 5:56 pm

For some reason? How about the fact that 135 lbs just might be Broner’s natural weight at the moment??? Isn’t that a great reason to stay just where he is?? Broner is very young and I think it is a great that he chooses to stay at a weight that is natural to him instead of jumping all around at various weights like many other fighters seem content to do these days.

Broner rehydrates to 145 to 147 for his fights, and you’re saying 135 is his natural weight?

Posted January 12, 2013 5:41 pm

Good move! Stay there clean it up and move up!

Posted January 12, 2013 4:18 pm

You can’t please Boxing fans. One minute they are hating on guys hopping divisions fighting one fight then leaving without clearing out a division. The next minute they are hating on a guy for stating he will clear out a division. Boxing fans are fickle.

following right in mayweathers footsteps.

sounds like a true lb for lb mayweather type guy to me lol, hes a talented guy but way over his head in terms of exspectation, lots of guys every bit as good and better out there, he can fight though i give him that, i think that joke that is promoting him is gonna back fire on him

Adrien Broner has no interest in moving to 140 despite the lack of big names at 135
