Bears Top 10 is something like this,

1 & 2. Klitschkos ( neither ever faught a HOFmer, ATG )
3. Joe Calzhagne
4. GGG ( hasn’t faught anybody, champion or top tier boxer
5. Carl Froch
6. Kelly Pavlik
7. Gatti
8. Golota
9. Lomacheko
10. Tommy Morrison

Anonymous – Ask Bears to give you his Top 10 boxers in the past 20 years……and see for yourself. SRedmond is far from being a racist he tells it like it is which most fanboys don’t like but that don’t make him racist.

Posted July 12, 2014 8:20 pm

BEARS it is clear SREDMOND is a racist loser and he knows it.

Posted July 12, 2014 7:33 pm

And SREDMOND is not your only ID on here.

Posted July 12, 2014 11:10 am

This is my new screen handle. I created it just for you.

Now you have no excuse to continue with your cowardly ducking. But I know you will.

Posted July 12, 2014 11:09 am

You mocked Gatti for ‘quitting’ on his stool against Floyd, but when I pointed out to you that Ali did the same against Holmes when he was past his best you replied with this.

‘Ali’s corner took him outta the ring against Holmes who is an ATG HW who was in his prime.. Ali was not getting knocked out by guys like Alfonso Gomez or Baldomir even as an OLD man’

To which I responded back at you with

‘What do you mean Ali’s corner pulled him out against Holmes? How is that not the same as what transpired in Gatti vs Floyd?

Did you even watch the fight? It was Gatti’s corner who pulled him out.’

Gatti didn’t quit against Floyd. His trainer Buddy McGirt pulled him out.

It was exactly the same as what transpired in the Ali vs Holmes fight. How could you not know that if you were a fan of Gatti’s?

But moreover, how can anyone least of all a ‘Gatti fan’ ever question Gatti’s heart or speak in a mocking tone about him quitting against Floyd when that wasn’t even what transpired?

Posted July 12, 2014 11:06 am

What kind of person would say these types of things about a fighter they supposedly meant to be a fan of and had a lot of respect for?

And say them on a remembrance article celebrating the 5th anniversary of the tragic death of the fighter?

Gatti hung himself while a quivering Ali is still a LEGEND who has his own museum and was only stopped ONCE by an ATG fighter in his prime… Gatti was a lot of fun but WHAT GREAT or former Elite fighter did he beat? “Joey Gamache”

I like Gatti but getting BEATDOWN does not make you a more gutty guy, sometimes it means you are INEPT… And where was the famed Gatti heart when he had to retire on his stool against Mayweather in 6 rounds… Like Roy Jones said “Too much SPEED” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

No the point is that Gatti was too inept at that point to defeat Baldy, and he was stopped which was SAD because Baldy is not a big puncher…Mayweather simply boxed Baldy mindless spotting him 9 pounds as I recall and moved on with life… Gatti got smashed it was Pathetic!

Posted July 12, 2014 10:57 am

You’re no Gatti fan. That couldn’t have been any more self-evident to anyone following your comments on that article.

As another poster pointed out to you, why would you reference his loses against Baldomir and Gomez if you were a fan of his?

This is what you said in your initial post on that article.

‘Arturo booked losses to the Baldomirs, Gomez, and Wards of the boxing World’.

You never reference the past prime or shot loses of any of the boxers you’re genuinely fond of so why do it with Gatti?

Roy Jones doesn’t get that treatment from you. According to you Jones was past it after beating Ruiz. Don’t you think that’s a little strange considering he still met all the criteria you’d use to adjudge Gatti not being past it when he fought Floyd?

He still held a belt when Tarver knocked him out.

He’d been on a run of 15 straight wins compared to Gatti’s 5.

He’d also absorbed a tiny fraction of the punishment and cumulative damage Gatti had soaked up during his career.

Your argument that Gatti wasn’t past it when he fought Floyd hinges on that criteria so why doesn’t that same criteria also apply to Jones or any of the other boxers that you’re a real fan of?

Posted July 12, 2014 10:54 am

Another tactic you use all the time to weasel out from answering difficult questions is your continuous use of straw man arguments.

You’ll spend half a page arguing with someone about something they haven’t even said or even implied to avoid providing an answer to the real questions they’ve been trying to get out of you for ages.

That’s what you did on the Gatti article and when I persisted with trying to get an answer out of you and backed you into a corner, you did your disappearing act again.

Posted July 12, 2014 10:46 am

SREDMOND why are you being so hostile and defensive? I’ve been civil with you so why get all tetchy when all I’m asking you to do is give me an answer to a few simple questions?

The only reason I’m badgering you about answering these questions here is because you kept ducking them on the other article. You always do that when someone backs you into a corner, because you know that answering them will expose your lies.

You’re more than happy to enter into lengthy discussions with me until I force you into an uncomfortable position.

It’s at that juncture you beat a hasty retreat and start accusing me of being a coward because I have no screen ID. Me not having a screen ID only becomes an issue for you when I back you into a corner. It’s never a problem for you up until that point.

It’s just a lame ploy to weasel out of answering difficult and uncomfortable questions.

I was touting Canelo as an opponent for Floyd.. I thought it would be a great fight — it wasn’t for reasons I stated.

But I was never a big fan of Canelo at all.. I saw potential was excited about

I’ll tell you who I like right now: Wladimir Klitschko… David Haye… Sergei Kovalev… Gennady Golovkin… Andre Ward… Floyd Mayweather… Terence Crawford… Mikey Garcia… Vasyl Lomachenko… Guillermo Rigondeaux

They’ve proven themselves to be exceptional

I’m a pretty big fan of about 10 guys… I talk about and hype a lot of other guys…because I believe they can turn into something big … But they haven’t convinced me yet, although people will think I’m a big fan of theirs… I like them so far… but not really a fan yet.

Anybody would think I’m a big Deontay Wilder fan.. The guy is massively talented.. He hasn’t really done anything yet and could be a bust … Still have to see it — but I have an open mind so far.

Posted July 11, 2014 5:41 pm

Tark you WERE a HUGE canelo fan BEFORE the canelo-Mayweather fight!!!!

Posted July 11, 2014 5:13 pm

I am NOT a big Canelo fan… Never was… I said he would be a good matchup for Floyd.

Who am I picking for Canelo vs Lara??? … If I’m such a big Canelo fan like Bears — I would pick Canelo.

I want Lara to beat the living SHlT out of Canelo.

Posted July 11, 2014 4:55 pm

Sredmond flaps his yap.., “it was the biggest fight of Canelo’s life and suddenly he cannot find sparring partners???”

Obviously you didn’t follow the stories going up to the fight about Canelo’s poor sparring situation.. It was all over the place.. His super cheap sparring partners didn’t hold up — and members of Canelo’s team were begging Shane Mosley to spar with Canelo on 24/7… Don’t tell me you didn’t see that episode.

Obviously Canelo learned a lot about preparation, and what’s important from the Floyd fight… First and foremost you need great sparring… 2nd, if you can’t make the weight don’t kill yourself… Negotiate an over the weight contract limit and pay the fine.

He learned valuable lessons from Floyd on all of that.

Posted July 11, 2014 4:53 pm

Tark you’re a liar!!! You were a huge Canelo fan!!!

Posted July 11, 2014 4:48 pm

Tark, you were a MAJOR Canelo fan!!! This is an epic Flip Flop you discussed how the fight was huge and how Alvarez had a good shot at beating the P4P King! NOW suddenly you are treating him like a leper!! WOW!!! This really illustrates how NUTS you are..

Posted July 11, 2014 4:41 pm

It’s Me, Ernie

There you go again douche-nozzle, spouting nonsense about subjects you know very little if anything about.

Posted July 11, 2014 4:40 pm

Why would I have to make excuses for Canelo? I’m not a Canelo fan … and NEVER WAS.

I was hoping for a great matchup for Floyd… A lot of people were.

I’ve always been a big Floyd fan and would like to see him retire undefeated at 50-0. However I’m a very objective guy. He should fight the best.

I’m a boxing fan first, last, and always.. I’ve been involved with Boxing in some capacity for generations.. All my life I’ve always wanted to see the best fights.. However none of the best fights ever happen — because Boxing has nothing but duckers going left and right.. The fans SHOULD come first… But they’re always last.

Canelo vs Lara is one of those rare great fights… I’m very grateful for it.

Posted July 11, 2014 4:39 pm

You pick Lara by UD??? Canelo by UD.

Posted July 11, 2014 4:31 pm

Tark, your post below is LADEN with EXCUSES!!! Canelo was FINE it was the biggest fight of his life and suddenly he cannot find sparring partners??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Being drained is the MOST overused excuse in boxing these days and some of us are TIRED of it… Its not a get out of jail free card, who cares about preparations that’s PART of your job! no one says will Peyton Manning only lost the Superbowl because he was not prepared so his opponent deserves less credit… AGAIN your TV interpretations of Canelos condition mean NADA… AGAIN you panicked and tried to prep an excuse because Mayweather is still the MOST difficult riddle in boxing…Give the man his credit and stop stealing you Schleeb!

Posted July 11, 2014 4:25 pm

Lefthook.., Pick is Lara obviously, unless you can’t read.

What’s your pick?

Posted July 11, 2014 4:21 pm

You obviously didn’t follow my posts leading up to the fight… I talked about the sparring situation and a lot of Floydies said I was making excuses for Canelo already.

Then immediately after the weigh-in I said Canelo looked parched and half dead… and this was well before the fight.. I believe you were one of the posters who laid into me for expressing that opinion BEFORE the fight..

I wasn’t making excuses.. I didn’t like the judges, particularly CJ Ross.. I didn’t like the way Canelo looked.. I didn’t like his camp.. I was only expressing my thoughts — but people always read ulterior motives into everything anybody posts.

Posted July 11, 2014 4:18 pm

What’s your pick?

Posted July 11, 2014 4:15 pm

Tark, you offer ALL these conditions POST FIGHT when we KNEW the terms of the bout LONG before! You call yourself an insider do you claim you had NO idea that Canelo had to weigh 152 before you gave him a Great chance of upsetting Floyd? His sparring is irrelevant because that’s HIS problem and besides you are an ESB troll who is NOT part of his camp and were not there….Alvarez was PEAK and ready he just fought a BETTER fighter who forgot more about boxing than he knows… What a chance he had! a smaller guy who was 13 years older and he simply could not do it because this was NOT some dope leading with his face… Again stop being ashamed of your pick and sudden dismissal of Alvarez…

Posted July 11, 2014 4:09 pm

Bears, you think that Algieri lost but you want him to fight Floyd? that said WINNERS like Cotto, Canelo, Maidana and Guerrero were not fit opposition? AGAIN you have no standards and Algieri is NOBODYS Paul Williams LMAO!!! Floyd has fought guys that were taller and the result was the same UD for Money May… Get with the Program Red Neck!

Bears, give it a rest we all saw the Algieri fight and YOU have NO cred on this contest because YOU BASHED Algieris performance and felt Provodnikov and then in a moment of EPIC flip flopping you said “That Algieri would be an interesting opponent for Mayweather” because you wanted to defend this poor choice by Arum and Company… As for your physicality I saw that ridiculous video you did on Klits vs Lewis and MAN you looked like garbage for whats supposed to be a young man… Its clear you are unfit to handle any real physical activity absent beating your meat, eating and tossing back some of the moonshine you make behind your trailer… Again your flip flopping is epic, do you deny saying SUDDENLY that Algieri would be an “interesting fight for FMJ” ???? “TARK and i are forecasting canelo vs lara totally opposite”

Posted July 11, 2014 2:52 pm

let me tell u about my buddy TARK.

the guy called canelo vs mayweather to the T. even down to the scores. one of the most accurate forecasts i have seen on the board and i have seen him do it multiple times. a million times the forecaster resident retard boxtradamus is.

TARK are forecasting canelo vs lar about totally opposite. i have done this before and been totally wrong while TARK wAs absolutely right. lara may have the best performance of his career and TARK may end up being absolutely right again.

TARKS forecasts are never double sided or far fetched. the depth and detail of his analysys’ is generally far beyond the average poster.

sredmond for example has no analysys to speak of. he does not even mention anything from tape. not a punch, not an aspect of a style. nothing. im convinced the guy does not watch fights, just reads rob smith articles and wikipedia. lol

Posted July 11, 2014 2:49 pm

if sredmond is saying somebody said something and he is not quoting, it guranteed fabrication and lie. revisioning peoples views and opinions should get u kicked. but sredmond has no credibility. he said david tua was a wbc heavyweight champ, he made hundreds of posts on algieri vs provo like he was an authority on the fight come to find out he never watched it.

sredmond does not watch fight tape.

funny thing yesterday sredmond was belittling children birn out of wed lock and in the next sentence says he “plays” woman. (you couldnt make up funnier stuff here folks)

Bears – Canelo at 15 years old was fighting in tijuana Cantinas vs Cantina Drunks who had Zero fighting experience.. don’t believe it?? just go to and it’s clear as day.. 30 of Canelos 40 fights might as well be flushed down the toilet.. meaningless fights vs Mexican Drunks…

Bears – you’ll be waiting for a long time because Cinnabum is going to get his Culito Kicked by Cuban Lara.. fker couldn’t even make weight.. what a loser… Just wait until Cinnabum has to fight GGG, Quillin or Rosado.. he’s a Dead Carrot Walking…

Posted July 11, 2014 12:39 pm

Tark was talking up Canelos chances BIG time and just as he is NOW dismissing his chances against Lara… Tark already has Lara prebooked for a Mayweather shot when he has a MAJOR bout with Alvarez on deck….Tark is also selling out Alvarez by NOW insinuating that he did not really beat Trout!!! I have seen this before, Tark was huge on Khan after he beat Judah but then jumped ship later, he is HUGE on Lomanchenko and refuses to accept that the man is 2-1 as a pro and has a LONG way to go in order to substantiate expectations, should Loma take ANOTHER “L” Tark will dump him like a GF with Herpes… He knew ALL the facts preceding the Mayweather bout and then suddenly declared Saul drained because he lost? would he have said that if Alvarez had KOed Floyd?

i cant wait to see canelo destroy cotto after lara. he will

Canelo in his TV full access episode 2 admitted he started accumulating fights on his record at the age of 15!!! he also admitted he had more then 15 fights in one YEAR!!! during his early teen years.. against Cantina Drunks, some withe Zero fights on their Records.. ROFLMAO his record is garbage.. absolute Made up fluff and non-sense… If you included all of Cuban Laras Wins from the age of 15 he’d have a 100+ and 0 record.. These Cheating Chihuahuas should not be allowed to include fights before they were 18 years old.. It’s why all of these Mexican fighters have these high Records.. because of this type of Cheating.. Like Chavez Sr. having a 100+ something Record?? total Madeup Bullsh!t..

IF Saul had miraculously defeated Floyd, Tark would’ve been claiming credit for that outcome as well.

Posted July 11, 2014 9:37 am

“Tark never favored Alvarez over Mayweather” but boy was he hedging his bet with excessive and premature praise of Canelo’s chances to defeat Mayweather. based mostly on what he imagined Canelo would become but completely disregarding the actual situation in play. i actually cited Tark’s premature praise as a big factor for somebody NOT choosing Canelo. ultimately, Tark only just stopped short of predicting a win for Canelo and IF Saul had miraculously defeated Floyd, Tark would’ve been claiming credit for that outcome as well.

canelo can have tons if success just closing the gap.

did u see the way trout was able to rag doll lara at times holding him in place with one arm and hitting him? if canelo does that it could be devastating.

gonna be dissapointed if this turns into a pot shot fest

te tumbo.., “Canelo thoroughly dominated Trout no less than Mayweather dominated Guerrero.”

You may actually be thinking of Lara’s fight with Trout.. Lara was super dominant.. Canelo? … not as much.

Lara finally hit his stride. No matter how many amateur fights you have it takes 20 pro fights to convert your skills to the pro game. Lara was having a rough time of it actually.. He finally started getting excellent sparring with the Charlo Brothers and that boosted his skills a lot.

Canelo has 45 professional fights, but needed the Floyd fight… Floyd has a very extensive amateur background like Lara. He’s had far better sparring and coaching overall than Canelo.. Floyd showed Canelo how far behind he is.

Floyd got jabbed in the face a lot by Cotto. He wasn’t happy at all with that. He made a lot of adjustments for Guerrero and Canelo, bringing Floyd Sr back in… Saul didn’t get his jab on Floyd at all — and that was a major part of Canelo’s plan. When Saul tried to jab, Floyd speared him in the face with his own jab or a straight right.

Lara saw that and smiled. That’s why Lara’s so confident right now — because of what Floyd did to Canelo… what Trout did to Cotto…but couldn’t do to Lara.. Trout couldn’t touch Lara with effective jabs or any power punches.. So Lara is almost overconfident.. He’s talking a lot about Floyd — and how he’s going to show up at Floyd’s press conferences.

I dont think he’s looking past Canelo… Saul is the key to Lara’s future… So barring Ronnie Shields drugging his drinking water or Vaseline rub I think he’ll take it.

“My question is against which opponent(s) has Canelo shown those attributes?” Canelo thoroughly DOMinated Trout no less than Mayweather dominated Guerrero. it was a “shocking” experience for Trout who up to that point was being given all the credit for being the superior boxer to Canelo. Not-Even-Close. Canelo easily pummelled and defeated Angulo. Lara barely survived the same Angulo. there was no detectable slippage in Angulo between those two bouts. only imaginary slippage, which is the illusion caused by Canelo’s breakaway talent and speed. it’s what planted a notoriously durable Baldomir face-first into the ring-canvas. it’s what sent Josesito packing back to welter to seriously hurt Maidana. it’s why Canelo disposes of presumably lesser opposition in predictable fashion. the undefeated Mayweather is the only exception but that bout was four years premature for Canelo, anyway. LMAN, you are almost correct. you’re not missing something, you’re missing EVERYthing.

Posted July 11, 2014 1:09 am

te tumbo

At-Best, Lara’s actual boxing skills are equal to Canelo’s. not vastly superior enough to simply outbox or outpoint him. he’s going to have to Fight, which we all know favors Canelo. Lara will not be able to avoid being Socked and every time he attempts to defend himself, he’ll be open to be Socked again. who really believes that Lara can sustain that type of give-and-take action v. Canelo?

Fight Aficionado.., “Canelo needs to bring heat from round 1. That’s what he did with Angulo”

He didn’t need to versus Angulo.. Angulo can’t box.. All Canelo had to do was jab and wait for openings as Angulo pressed forward.. Lara doesn’t have to do that.. He can box from long range and doesn’t have to give Canelo a thing … Maybe you didn’t see the Trout fight.

Posted July 10, 2014 7:59 pm

Fight Aficionado

Yup, Canelo needs to bring heat from round 1. That’s what he did with Angulo who never got momentum. But if Lara counters with some stiff lefts it could make Canelo stop throwing. If so he’s a dead man walking. We saw that happen before.

Posted July 10, 2014 7:42 pm

Fight Aficionado my friend, Lara needs room to punch. He likes to counter and move. Canelo has to put the pressure on from round one. That left hook of Canelo’s will be there for him to land. Canelo has never been a pressure style fighter, but he has to be in this fight, and I think he will. This should be a very interesting fight, and I’m thinking Canelo will impose his will on Lara and stop him. The first round will tell us a lot.

Posted July 10, 2014 7:20 pm

“I posted about Canelo’s sparring problems and weight making screw ups BEFORE the fight… ”

How did you learn of this stuff, TARK?

Posted July 10, 2014 6:49 pm

Fight Aficionado

“Lara will run out of gas. He does not like pressure and doesn’t fight very well inside. He also does not take a very good punch. Lara is a very good technical fighter, and it will show early, but as the fight goes on, Canelo will catch him with the left hook to both the body and head.” – Hecdog, there’s an equal risk of either guy running out of gas. I do agree Lara doesn’t like pressure and if Canelo brings heat from the opening round he’ll probably fall behind. But as we saw with Floyd, Canelo doesn’t like getting countered. When he gets countered he stops throwing. I’m sure Lara picked up on this.

good asssessment of alvarez. canelo was never the real deal. he was a very young and good looking freckle faced redhead who promoters loved.

they carefully matched him from 15 years of age to 22, and made him undefeated in 43 fights, which ricky hatton also was with clever maneuvering from string pullers

canelo is a bigger and tougher ricky hatton who can box much better, but not real well.

Posted July 10, 2014 6:42 pm

Gentlemen, having watched tapes of both Canelo Alvarez and Eryslandy Lara, I must say that this will be a tougher fight than I expected for Lara when Canelo applies pressure throughout the fight. I have previously posted that I believe Lara will win this fight, but I am now clearly taking CANELO ALVAREZ TO WIN THIS FIGHT STOPPAGE. Yes, my pick is CANELO ALVAREZ to win by stoppage. The reasoning for my change is because Lara will run out of gas. He does not like pressure and doesn’t fight very well inside. He also does not take a very good punch. Lara is a very good technical fighter, and it will show early, but as the fight goes on, Canelo will catch him with the left hook to both the body and head, and Canelo will land the right uppercut often. Canelo will win this fight is because he is fully motivated and has been on the big stage before. This is his time to win. He’s paid the price. Lara has somewhat got under his skin, but he has used it as motivation. Canelo is the younger, stronger more compact puncher, and I do expect him to land. I’ve watched the tapes, and you can take this bet to the bank if you want to because I am. Canelo Alvarez wins this fight by stoppage.

Papo – Just read your comment, be careful you are in danger of making a very logical and sound argument for why on earth it is the Canelo is so highly touted.

I may get proven wrong on fight night, but I just can get over those who see Canelo as being this super fighter that can walk through a guy like Lara. According to Te Tumbo, he has “seen breakaway ability in Canelo whose speed, power, and punching form is concussive”. My question is against which opponent(s) has Canelo shown those attributes?

On his last three fights he fought Floyd, Trout and Angulo. We all know he lost easily to Floyd, had trouble against Trout and Angulo was shot. Before that he fought Josesitio Lopez at 154…a fighter who wasn’t even a legit 147 pounder. An over the hill Shame Mosely who had just lost to Pac. Punching bags Kermit Cintron and Alfonso Gomez…do I need to say more?

Other than being fed easy opponents, except Floyd and Trout, he hasn’t done anything spectacular. To the contrary, after his not too impressive fight against Trout, the corner decided to match him against the slower Angulo so he could look good again.

Perhaps I’m missing something here, but I mentioned this before his fight against Floyd, Canelo is an overhyped fighter who has been too carefully brought up through the rankings. He’s going to have lots of problems against a pure boxer like Lara. That’s my prediction.

Posted July 10, 2014 6:29 pm

Canelo wouldn’t have beaten Floyd anyway, but he wasn’t prepared to fight him… He learned a valuable lesson in preparation from that fight.

Canelo’s sparring broke down and his team begged Sugar Shane Mosley to spar with Canelo on 24/7 — because the guys they had were sent home and they had no sparring.. Mosley doesn’t want to piss Floyd off so what’s he going to say??? ..He said, “Sorry.. I’d like to help Canelo out.. I just can’t do any sparring right now.. Sorry.”

It’s a serious joke when 2 boxers split 100-million dollars in purse money and one team doesn’t hire sparring partners who are appropriately experienced and skilled.

In addition to that they started Canelo’s dehydration program too aggressively and too early… They were scared to death of the 152-catch weight — and the big fine that would be imposed for not making the weight.

Floyd had no problem paying a $600,000.00 fine for missing the 144-pound catch weight by 2 pounds against Marquez.. It was much more important to Floyd to win the fight, than to keep a few hundred thousand dollars in fine money.

Canelo learned that lesson for Angulo… He paid up rather than knock 1 more pound off

He stopped dehydrating at 155 with a pound to go… He just said no… Not making weight and paying huge fines is something almost NOBODY talks about or cares a damned thing about… All fans care about is if you won or lost.

BTW.., I posted about Canelo’s sparring problems and weight making screw ups BEFORE the fight… It’s not Monday morning quarterbacking when you call the fight before hand – and I always had Floyd winning by decision while many Floydiots had him crushing, battering, shredding, slicing, smoking, and KOing Canelo… That was NEVER going to happen.

SDremond- I get Mayweather is a really good boxer. But he isnt a God. Quit trying to undermind other good boxers. When you do that, you sound stupid because then it sounds like your saying Mayweather is fighting bums and that is just retarded.

“Maidana made 147 and then came in 166 on fight night and did better than Canelo…

SRedmond, I still think somebody screwed up on reporting Maidana’s weight on fight night vs Mayweather. He didn’t look no 18 lbs heavier than Floyd.

Posted July 10, 2014 4:47 pm

Hibdeen, YES I am saying I don’t listen to all the post fight banter about “making weight” Canelo was 153.5 against Trout his prior weigh-in, he dropped 1.5 against Floyd and then ballooned to 165 which is a major advantage… Maidana made 147 and then came in 166 on fight night and did better than Canelo… These are ALL excuses that don’t stand when you have a guy 13 years OLDER and 15 pounds lighter if Canelo was the better boxer that night he would have taken advantage but Floyd Mayweather is the best in the game…Canelo has been squeezing down and beating up plenty of smaller boxers with no issues, Hatton, Lopez, Cintron but because he could not pull the same thing over on the GREAT FMJ we are supposed to cut him a pass??? NO EXCUSES for the kid!

Posted July 10, 2014 2:45 pm

SREDMOND, so you’re saying that even though Canelo has needed to fight at no less than 155 for his last two fights, and even though he had to boil down to 152 for his fight with Mayweather, that he was “plenty ready…and strong foMayweather? Get real. Canelo was complaining about having to drop to 152 during at least one segment of All Access before the fight. If weight wasn’t going to adversely affect him why is he insisting on fighting at no less than 155?

Beating Baldy and Gatti are just FACTS of the game BOTH had belts when they were raped by FMJ… Floyd fought the guy that Baldy beat to get his belt and UD’ed him widely also Judah… So Tark if the ONLY route to being respectable is beating Pacquiao then why are you NOT touting a Mayweather vs Marquez II bout since JMM kicked Mannys AZZZ something fierce and sent him out of bxing for a YEAR…????? If beating Pac Man is the only way to gain respect in boxing then why are you SO big on Porter, Thurman and Lara?????? NONE have beat Pac Man? again you are just throwing names around because the MASTERS winning ways have begun to irk you too where you USED to call FMJ the GOAT… Tark like your fellow AZZ Ranger Bears you are a FLIP FLOPPER….

Posted July 10, 2014 12:53 pm

Tark, Canelo was PLENTY ready against Floyd he was prepared and strong bottomline is he LOST… No one wants to join your excuse train he could not defeat a fighter 13 years older than him who was 15 pounds lighter that’s his PROBLEM and the history books will reflect that…You pegged Canelo to defeat Floyd and then when that did not happen you pretended he was handicapped a reality he did NOT even sell himself to his credit… If Lara wins its because he was the BETTER man, if Canelo wins its because he was the BETTER man… You cannot take Millions of dollars and have months to get ready THEN start pedaling excuses because EVERYONE has them (EXCUSES) you are just more attracted to them than most since Alvarez embarrassed you so badly being schooled by FMJ…

Posted July 10, 2014 12:49 pm

Beating Baldomir and Gatti aren’t feathers in anyone’s cap.

Beating Pacquiaoi??? That’s something Boxing fans would enjoy a little more.

It’s like Pacquiao and Mayweather both fighting Hatton… Okay … two muggings are cute — now fight each other.

Posted July 10, 2014 12:47 pm

Sredmond.., “If Canelo is not ready he can lose.” DUH!!!

And if he’s damned READY he can still lose too. He’s learned his lesson about being ready—and negotiating a very favorable weight—from the disasterous Floyd fight.

So Canelo will be prepared to perfection for this test—instead of being badly weight drained at 152, so he could only stand there doing nothing for 12 rounds against Floyd—but wait for the fight to be over so he could collect his 12 million dollars… nice work if you can get it.

This time Canelo will be ready to fight — but he’s facing a bigger, stronger, and tougher opponent.

Posted July 10, 2014 12:39 pm

I saw Floyd Mayweather totally and EASILY outpoint Baldomir, take the lineal belt and move on with his career.. I saw Gatti beaten down by a Baldomir that could not beat Mayweather if Floyd was 55 years old… Gatti was on a 5 fight win streak when Floyd beat him like a disrespectful child, Floyd abused him at a weight where he was Champion… Baldy and Gatti the ring at the same time could not win 4 rounds off Mayweather on his worst night… And most importantly Floyd rose in weight and DESTROYED Gatti in Atlantic City… Gatti was shown that he was NOT on FMJs level over EVER close.. He was an action hero and fun fighter to watch get punched in the face but not elite..

SREDMOND you still haven’t replied to these questions I asked you on the Gatti article

Gatti’s skills had eroded by the time he fought Baldomir and Gomez but not when he fought Floyd?

How many Gatti fights did you say you’ve seen again? I suppose all those beatings he endured and the hellacious amount of damage accumulated before he fought Floyd took nothing out of him?

Roy Jones held a belt when he was knocked out in 2 rounds by Tarver, was he past it or not then?

You still haven’t explained to me why prime Floyd ran from ‘light hitter’ Baldomir all night and why he was booed vociferously by large sections of those in attendance?

What do you mean Ali’s corner pulled him out against Holmes? How is that not the same as what transpired in Gatti vs Floyd?

Did you even watch the fight? It was Gatti’s corner who pulled him out.

What does Gatti losing to Baldomir and Gomez have to do with Ali ‘quitting’ against ATG prime Holmes? The comparison I drew was between Gatti ‘quitting’ against Floyd who was also an ATG and Ali ‘quitting against Holmes.

Posted July 9, 2014 3:32 pm

‘If Gatti was “better than Floyd in any area” then why is Mayweather the Ring Champ at 154 when he is 37 years old whereas Gatti was a BUST above 140 getting smoked by the likes of Gomez and Baldy?’

What kind of backwards logic is that?

Gatti was shot when he fought Baldomir and Gomez. He was done. Finished. Kaput. Understood?

Why do you keep dwelling on those fights if you’re a fan of his? Boxers you’re genuinely a fan of don’t get that treatment so why does Gatti?

Saying Gatti is better than Floyd in particular areas doesn’t imply he was a better fighter. He outshines Floyd in the power and heart categories but it doesn’t mean he’s a superior fighter than him.

Why are you so loathe to concede that if you’re a fan of his?

Nothing like attaching a deceptive title to an article to get more reads. Garcia didn’t say, “Lara could out-box Canelo,” he said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if Lara can out-box Canelo.” Big difference. Beyond that this has to be one of the most terribly written articles ever published on this website.

Posted July 10, 2014 10:23 am

Tark, Lara is a damn good fighter and at times he can look spectacular other times lackluster ie Molina, Vanes and rounds against Angulo… Canelo was outboxed by a TRUE Master Boxer, the guy who every other boxer in the sport wants to emulate as far as longevity, success and discipline 37 years old and still the most unbeatable guy in boxing at the World Class level…. Lara is NOT Floyd Mayweather he is a spoiler and if Canelo is not ready he can lose but he is has a MUCH easier assignment in Lara who was found and punished at times by a war torn Angulo…

Posted July 10, 2014 10:06 am

when ever Lara fights on P.P.V. the other guy will be the draw.

Posted July 10, 2014 10:05 am

All you guys making a case for Lara are absurd. If you compare the common opponents it’s evident Canelo wins. Lara is no Mayweather and will lose soundly.

HatersBeWare- I don’t think Canelo is afraid or unsure- this kid is very confident. In fact, this fight is happening because he demanded it. And most times I agree about not making it personal, but in this case it might actually be a positive for Canelo (as it was for Frazier against Ali, especially the first time), because Canelo needs to come out and be a lot more aggressive if he wants to win this fight. I still got Lara, by the way, but because of styles: for Lara to win he only needs to be on his A game- for Canelo to win he probably needs to step out of his normal game and be an all out attacker.

Lara wins the boxing match if it’s a boxing match. Canelo has limited gas tank and that will be his downfall. However, Canelo might win this via home cooking if the fight is close enough to steal rounds for Canelo. Lara needs a shutout performance to win but he isn’t as slick as Floyd to pull it off. My prediction: Canelo via controversial SD.

canelo does not have the lengthiest experience with boxers of this caliber and he can not approach it like he did fraud or trout or he stands a good chance of loosing

Posted July 10, 2014 2:24 am

The analysis I’m reading is wrong.

It doesn’t matter what Lara and Canelo did against Angulo — who has a completely different style from Lara and Canelo.

More revelant are their performances against Trout and Mayweather, who are clever and fast boxers.. Lara and Canelo are good boxers who jab, slip, counter, and box smartly — so those particular performances lend a little more insight into what may happen on Saturday.

If Floyd were fighting Lara you wouldn’t judge his chances on how he performed against Maidana. You would want to look at the first couple rounds of his Judah fight, because Zab is a quick southpaw — and his Cotto fight, because Cotto has a real nice jab he can pop most fighters with.

Against pure boxers, Lara can sustain that type of early advantage for 12 rounds as he demonstrated versus Trout.

plus people wanna make a case that fraud is better than pac based on fraud being undefeated when frauds resume is weaker than pacmans and that is why fraud was not even fighter of the decade. when fraud has faced the two best welters (who have fought eachother) pac and bradley, let me know how he performs. til then pac is the best welter while fraud faces guys like baldomir, ortiz, guerrero, and maidana. you know, foregone conclusions. bad sparring matches. until the right cherry had the right style to pluck off imitation fraud (broner), and pluck off the fraud himself (fraud may).

maidana won that fight son. he was outlanded like every round. thats boxing though. give it to fraud when he is outlanded and out ring generaled all night, then give it to algieri the next night. there is no consistency in judging or officiating. it is garbage

Canelo is a fraude, He couldn’t even make the 154lb weight Limit for this Championship fight so There won’t be a Belt on the Line.. Just another Catchweight sham.. just like his last fight vs Angulo… Probably be a 10 round fight as well because Canelo knows he won’t last 12 rounds vs Lara.. Canelo will be seeing 3 Laras when Lara hits him, ref stops it.

Have to give it up to Canelo and Lara for having this fight when so many fighters do their best to avoid each other. Lara called out Canelo at a press conference and Canelo avoided the confrontation until later when there was no one left to fight. Even Lara had a fight set up against Smith that he called off to fight Canelo. Hope the fight lives up to the hype and we get a classic. nothing else to look forward to after this, we get a rerun of Mayweather/Maidana and something in Macau Pacquiao/Algierie. LAME!

another school of thought among is to let your opponent talk and posture all they want. after all, the actual fight will be taking place in the ring not on a promotional stage. at which point, the talk must cease and the real Fighter must emerge. for fighters of Canelo’s background, that is their standard M.O.: their Fists NOT their lips will do their talking for them.

Canelo will check that chin just the way he’s posing in that pic. Wide open for a right hand

As a cage fighter myself- there are two things you do not do. 1) You never allow a fight to become personal; and 2) If it does become personal you never allow your opponent to know that he was able to get to you. Unfortunately Canelo has made both error very early on in this war. When you fight in the ring and or in a cage, the fight does not begin on fight night, the fight begins when the two men are together at the contract signing. This is where the war of the souls and or “ganas” begins. There has been many fights when I have come fact to face with my opponent and could see, feel and smell the fear. It is an intoxicating feeling, and fuels you during your training. Everyone please look at the picture associated with this article. Lara confident- Canelo’s is questioning himself- as a fighters first reaction when another fighter enters his personal space like that is to instinctively and immediately push the other fighter back for distance and to demand respect. Canelo just stood there. If Canelo gets hurt at anytime during the fight he will fold, because Lara already has his heart.

If Canelo lets Lara dictate the pace then it’s gonna be all Lara with Canelo getting in a good shot or two from time to time. If Canelo can make it an inside type fight, he can land the harder shots and hurt Lara. This is gonna be a back and forth, it may come down to the Championship rounds, Lara will have to really beat up the CASH COW to win.

Canelo doesn’t need to “brawl”. he needs to Punch. Hard and Often but wisely. he needs to counter with combos, not neglect the uppercuts, and fold Lara at the waist. that’s the kind of smart pressure that Canelo is naturally suited for. Lara is the level of top-notch fighter that Canelo should defeat with breakaway (i.e., elite) talent and skills. i haven’t seen that in Lara who is a fundamentally sound and difficult opponent but imminently beatable. i have seen breakaway ability in Canelo whose speed, power, and punching form is concussive. Canelo by KO/TKO. the harder Lara tries, the more determined and potent Canelo becomes.

Lara is not known as puncher, if I were on Canelo’s shoes I’ll go for the early KO…similar to what Hagler did against Hearns (great fight by the way). Lara has great technical skills and Canelo can afford to let the fight drag on, as I suspect he’ll be tired much sooner than Lara.

I’m picking Lara to win by decision as it’s obvious after both Floyd and Trout fights that Canelo has big issues against pure boxers…but then again, anything can happen. We’ll find out in just three more days.

Fight Aficionado

Sure Lara could outbox Canelo. It’s also possible Canelo can outhustle Lara, who in the past didn’t throw enough punches. I won’t predict until after the weigh in.

terror tim – I couldn’t agree anymore.

I started thinking about it more and instead of criticizing Canelo, I should be giving him MAJOR props for taking this fight. Cause like you said, he could’ve easily ducked Lara and still made bank. But, I also have to give Lara his props too, he stepped up to the plate (& podium) and called Canelo out, and Canelo accepted.

We have ourselves a fight. Let’s get it ON!

Its gonna be ugly either way you put it. Canelo can come in hungry and leave starving if Lara makes him punch shy, Or Canelo can dictate the fight early with good body blows. you will know who is gonna win by the fourth rd just based on who is controlling the tempo. Also both fighters have enough pop so end it early. Overall THis might be the most equal and dangerous fight of 2014.

Just because you got outboxed by the best pure boxer in the world don’t mean you will get outboxed by any half decent boxer. Lara’s good but not on Mayweathers level expect Canelo to out work Lara down the stretch and win a close but fair decision

I have respect for Canelo for taking this fight. Lara is the most dangerous opponent he could take on here and he accepted the challenge even though he could make plenty of money fighting someone else. It is nice to have a Mexican as a PPV star as their own culture seems to prevent them from ducking. Should be a great fight and IMO the best one that could be made at 154 at the moment. I guess both being a part of Golden Boy helps here. This is a close fight that I don’t think one can say who will win with too much confidence either way but if I was in Vegas I would say Lara is the smart bet. He is the more versatile fighter. Wish I was home this week to get this one.

Alvarez is to hungry for stardom. He and Oscar knows Floyd is about to retire. Alvarez has power, a chin, heart, and more developing ring smarts. He will take erislandsy’s will. Laras footwork ,speed, and reflexes are not close to floyds. I think canelo will chin check Lara.

Anonymous – Lara’s job is to keep it FROM becoming a fight and more of a boxing match, and vice versa for Canelo.

Should be interesting how I plays out. I really can’t pick who will win, I believe it’s a toss up as both have a good chance.

The best man will win and as a boxing fan, I’m just happy it’s GOING DOWN!!!!

Posted July 9, 2014 5:12 pm

He will have to OUTFIGHT him

Posted July 9, 2014 5:09 pm

The bottom line is, Lara does NOT fight like Floyd (or Angulo) and Canelo does NOT fight like Angulo.

Though, in terms of “boxing”, Lara does have more Floyd in him than Canelo does. Lara needs to box, Canelo needs to brawl.

The best man will win and I’m excited for this fight. Should be good…and I’m hoping it is.

Well, it was TKO 10 for Lara against Angulo, and I’ll take that against Alvarez too.
