Man, I’ll tell ya.. If only Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi, had a bit more punching power, he’d be damn near unstoppable!!… He’s got everything else… Hand speed, chin, heart, footwork, work-rate, combinations, ring smarts and stamina… Literally the entire pugilistic tool box other than punching power! And that REALLY SUX!!!

Mr. Herron:
Point taken, I see what you mean. I have to say that you picked a great example to illustrate a point. Mayweather vs Corley was a great fight. Nevertheless, I will not say never regarding Lara and Rigo . Lara has gotten in couple of brawls but not like the one you mention in your post. Rigo on the other hand, has not seen that type of fight; however, his opponents have to grow a pair of balls and take the fight to him. The last two fights Rigo has had (Nonito and Joseph) were hindered, mostly in part, by the fact that these fighters did not show up to fight. There are some of the fighters I would had picked for Rigo but the feud between Golden Boy and Top Rank is making boxing an illegitimate fighting sport.

On a different note, it would be hard to see Mayweather fight Khan when we know that fighters not ranked in the top ten of the 140 and 147 could give Khan a run for his money. Unless the fight is in England, this fight has all the ingredients to be a fiasco.

Appealing fights to the casual fight fan, that is!!

Posted December 10, 2013 4:58 am

Joseph Herron

Tell that to the networks who will have a hard time finding an audience for these guys…and tell that to the casual fight fans who will hold their noses every single time these guys fight.

Boxing is entertainment, and Floyd is not like the Cuban fighters.

Floyd is not opposed to taking risks in the ring. The Cuban fighters are.

Watch Floyd’s bout with Chop Chop Corley a decade ago…neither Lara or Rigo would ever be in that kind of war.

The Cubans already have one strike against before they even enter the ring…they don’t have a home base in America and they don’t speak any English.

Unless they have an opponent who follow’s their script, they will never put on appealing fights.

Posted December 10, 2013 4:47 am

Mr. Herron:
I guess you drank a little too much cough syrup because your laughter is taking from your message. Rigo and Lara care to win, and in the end, the record will speak for them after you are gone. Floyd is as defensive and offensive as Lara and Rigo; however, Floyd plays the villain card and that has brought financial success. It is not about understanding their style, it is about winning; they are looking all their fighters look amateurish. Put Lara and Canelo, and Canelo will gas mid fight and get KO.

They are more than likely ironing out some of the specific details of the fight contract.

But I’m 99% sure that it will take place against Amir Khan at the MGM Grand in Vegas.

Yo Mama, it isn’t going to happen.

There’s no way they would give up MGM’s willingness to pay a huge site fee for any Mayweather fight…also keep in mind that Floyd doesn’t have to pay a contractor state tax for fighting in Nevada.

Besides that, Paulie is always entertaining–in or out of the ring–and Floyd always says he wants to put on a good show for boxing fans. Come on, Floyd. You know Paulie would say YES!

Posted December 10, 2013 2:14 am

Beating Zab isn’t what would get Paullie a fight with Mayweather. It’s Paulie’s ability to stay relevant. If he’s not holding a title, he’s a top contender and he’s always on the doorstep of a championship.

Posted December 10, 2013 1:20 am

Ya mama

If you seen the new boxing 147 ranking it’s interesting it can give a clue who should be fighting who.
Belt holder WBC Floyd and guess who below at number 2? It’s pac-man it’s a mandatory fight in 1-1/2 years. Or lose the belt. Would Floyd give up the belt or fight? He he gives up the belt it’s a ?? Mark… But he has done this many times.

The. Other belt holder is broner WBA belt thurman number and paulie 3.

The next belt holder is Shawn porter Brooks number 2
Other belt holder Bradley Marquez number 2
So Floyd really can fight porter, broner, Bradley, the belts holder. Or manny or lose his belt.
This is interesting khan is rated 3 WBC same as Floyd Not rated in the WBA or IBF
Rated in the 140# WBA 2 and 3 IBF
Paulie rated 3 WBA so they can fight.

Bottom line porter A belt holder at 147# is suppose to be the best fight, broner will not fight Floyd, and the second best is pacman 2 WBA or lose the belt.

. Let see who Floyd pick… Khan 3 isn’t rated by the other belts at 147 #LOL

Boxtradamus: “Paulie is even LESSER than Khan. The result of Paulie vs. Amir agrees with ME on that. That’s why Khan’s name is higher on the list than Paulie’s just as Canelo’s name was higher on the list than Trout’s.”

Styles make fights, Boxtradiculous!!

Khan is a horrible style match-up for guy like Paulie. Khan has trouble with guys who are effective aggressors and can work their way inside of his defense. Paulie isn’t one of those fighters.

Paulie would give Floyd trouble in the outset because of his movement and feinting. His punches don’t have much torque, but it’s consistent enough to keep any opponent busy mentally.

malignaggi couldn’t hurt broner with plaster in his gloves. i don’t wanna watch that absurd fight again. matter of fact, paulie should quit while he’s ahead, he will not win another match. broner might not be so cool next time. but showtime is a real cool gig and he’s better at that than boxing i think.

Maybe Paulie is livin large as you say. Judah did do well late in the Garcia fight. But I’ve been watching Judah fight a long time. This was the worse version of Judah, I’ve seen. PM deserves the respect for the win though, but I would like to see what Judah does from here on out.. Keep in mind, Judah said he going to be the old Zab Judah, in this fight. I think he was right, he unfortunately became an old Judah…

On the same token, I see Mayweather beating Khan by TKO, probably around the 8th to 10th round. However, Khan would bring speed as well as pop, to keep Mayweather guessing early.

Paulie is even LESSER than Khan. The result of Paulie vs. Amir agrees with ME on that. That’s why Khan’s name is higher on the list than Paulie’s just as Canelo’s name was higher on the list than Trout’s.

I was thinking more like 118-110 all the way to 120-108. I don’t think Mayweather would let him win more than a round or two. I thought PM looked great this past Saturday, but I really think a lot of that had to do with Judah, not being able to catch up and time Paulie at all. Mayweather would be the faster fighter, and have him figureed out rather quickly. But hey, I thoujht Judah would beat Paulie in a close fight. And that fight was anything but close.

Posted December 9, 2013 10:41 pm

The last CHAMP that Paulie beat was Senchenko. Beating a SHOT Zab Judah doesn’t qualify you for a Floyd Fight and neither DID beating the CHAMP Senchenko. That’s enough SAID on that.

“You’re going to buy any PPV that Floyd stages from here on out…even if he announced that his next opponent was a retired Sugar Shane Mosley again!!”-Nope. Not ME. I only buy PPV’s when its 2 Top 10 P4P opponents facing OFF. Khan and Spoiled Shane Mosley don’t qualify. That’s why I didn’t buy Pac vs. Rios.

You’re wrapped around Floyd’s nuts so tightly that we’re going to have to start calling you “Hanes” from now on, brother!!

You’re going to buy any PPV that Floyd stages from here on out…even if he announced that his next opponent was a retired Sugar Shane Mosley again!!

Give me a break!! LOL

Posted December 9, 2013 10:19 pm

Joseph Herron

I’ve thought for a while that Floyd and Paulie would be a much more competitive contest than most would anticipate.

I can see Floyd having problems with the disjunct movement and feinting of Paulie Malignaggi in the first four of five rounds of the contest. Paulie is a very difficult fighter to time and counter effectively because of his very underrated upper body and head movement.

But with Floyd’s handspeed and reflexes, he would eventually take the lead and punish Malignaggi with straight right hands and combinations from mid to short range to the body and head.

I see Floyd winning a UD 116-112 or 115-113.

Posted December 9, 2013 10:14 pm

Lara is GOOD but he’s a little TOO SLOW for a more SKILLED and FASTER WW like Floyd. And everyone at Jr MW and higher is going to have that SAME problem. I’ve SAID it before and I’ll say it again. Whoever beats Floyd MUST have SPEED and an extremely high Boxing IQ. Because Floyd is going to have the SKILLS advantage. That guy is going to come from a LOWER weight class. Not Higher.

Posted December 9, 2013 10:14 pm

“Look, if you can sell tickets and Showtime is interested in the match-up, then you have a fight with Floyd…that’s the only prerequisite necessary to get a fight with Floyd.”-That may be TRUE. But for ME to be interested it has to be vs. a worthy challenger. Someone coming off an impressive WIN vs. Top competition. The Khan Fight doesn’t interest ME. We all know that Floyd is the BEST SO he at least needs to face someone with MUCH MOMENTUM. The Canelo Fight fit the bill because he was on a 38 Fight WINNING streak and just beat the Championship version of Trout in a Unification bout. Lara’s performance was more impressive but it was vs. the NON Championship version of Trout. Just as Trout’s WIN was vs. the NON Championship version of Cotto. Beating CHAMPS is more challenging than beating NON CHAMPS. Paulie Maliggnagi agrees with ME on that as his record vs. CHAMPS is POOR.

Joeseph, true. Paulie would present Mayweather different a different dimension. He’s a gifted and intelligent fighter. I wouldn’t complain about it, but many, many fans would… But lets say that fight does come off, how do think it’ll play out?

Posted December 9, 2013 9:24 pm

Joseph Herron

Maybe that’s been part of the problem, Tomato Can. Most of Floyd’s recent opposition haven’t had the ring IQ to deal with one of the greatest defensive fighters in the history of the sport.

Paulie is one of the more proficient technical fighters in boxing and currently fights with a style that Floyd hasn’t seen lately.

I would prefer a match-up with Paulie over a lot of other candidates in the 147 pound weight class.

Posted December 9, 2013 9:10 pm

Oh I wouldn’t blame Paulie for taking a Mayweather fight if it’s offered… That would be great for PM. I’m sure the majority of fight fans would hate it though. Most fans need to see Mayweather in ther with someone who has a punchers chance . That’s not Paulie…

Posted December 9, 2013 8:35 pm

Why would Paulie fight KAHN FOR under a million when he can fight Maweather for millions . Paulie is is slick enough to avoid getting KO’d by Mayweather and losing is no big deal with that kind of Payday?

I actually think A Mayweather/Mallenaggi fight would draw a whole lot of bad press. Mayweather already beat guys that PM lost to. On top of that, Khan, the guy that no one wants to see fight Mayweather, beat Mallenaggi with ease… So if Mallenaggi could beat Khan now, then he would be more deserving. Anyone think, PM would beat Khan now at WW?

Joseph your right paulie would give a very hard rub why? He awarkward and adjust Iwashed laughing borner tried the two glove in front the face and paulie pop him right between, and when he was doing the hide behind the shoulder paulie paulie threw a right jab right along his shoulder right to borner jaw, don’t have much to the punch but these are points added, also paulie don’t get knocked out he has great reflexes to roll his head and to counter punch, did I say he award ward, and he has a very shaft jab that find it target, and last he don’t give up a round he punching all night long non stop. I too think he has a great chance to upset Floyd, but we know Floyd know that too so no matchup.

Whoa, I can’t believe that anyone is in favor of having Paulie fight Floyd,
Who in their right mind would watch it and also Paulie doesn’t bring any kind of threat to Floyd. Let’s get into some real fights, the guy who stole the dhow overthe weekend was Porter, a guy with a throw back style, all guts and brawn…. LAra looked good but fighting another southpaw made it look somewhat boring, trout should now either retire or change weight class, he’s lost the lst 2 fights so, he needs a masterful showing in his next fight. Kirkland was great but his opposition wasn’t top class , lots of heart but no class… Where should Alexander go now that he lost, a rematch will probably not happen and if it did, ending with the same result then his career maybe over… Many good fights over the weekend but again, Porter stole the show and also I liked Derrill, liked his speed power and style, He will be a champion soon…. That’s right, Hidalgo…that’s why Amir Khan is pretty much a done deal at this point.

Is it because Amir has proven himself to be the most credible opponent for Floyd?

Posted December 9, 2013 1:19 pm

“You guys are funny with this “prove yourself” mentality…lol”

No kidding. Floyd himself has made it perfectly clear that he will fight anyone (within the two divisions he fights in) as long as he thinks he can sell the show in a big way and if the money is there.

That being said, Floyd’s not going to jump in the ring with just anyone. Khan may not be the highest on anyone’s list of potential Floyd opponents, but Khan has proven marketability, showmanship, and popularity. There’s also a good number of Khan haters who’d pay to see him get his butt kicked again.

I’d love to see a Floyd/Lara fight but like I said before, the ropes would have to be removed from around the ring so both fighters would have unlimited room to back-pedal. You know, show off there defensive mastery?

Posted December 9, 2013 11:37 am

“who do you think will have the stones to step in the ring with Erislandy Lara in 2014?”

Canelo might but I think it’s getting really difficult for him to make 154 anymore. Demetrius Andrade is a possibility but there’s not much left to fight in the jr. middleweight divisions except maybe Jermello Charlo and Willie Nelson. Lara would steam roll Smith so I can’t see a need for that fight to happen. But a Lara/Charlo bout would be better and more entertaining than a Lara/Smith bout and Willie would at least try to make a good fight out of it although he’s pretty green compared to Lara.

In reality a Mayweather/Lara match in the not-so-distant future makes sense. If Lara were to move up to middleweight, he’d be ready for GGG. But I’d love to see how he deals with Gennady’s pressure and ability to cut the ring off. Lara couldn’t back-pedal fast enough to stay away from GGG so there would be a fight. Murray would be a good test for Lara. Martinez too but I don’t think he wants to face a guy with Lara’s skillset.

Posted December 9, 2013 11:31 am

Lara style would be really difficult for Floyd ??? Im just guessing after seeing how easily Trout made the fight for Lara by playing right into his hands ….

Look, if you can sell tickets and Showtime is interested in the match-up, then you have a fight with Floyd…that’s the only prerequisite necessary to get a fight with Floyd.

I don’t see Floyd beating Lara silly… That’s a tough fight for him… 154 is a good weight for Lara — he’s not a middleweight or light heavyweight who takes off 18 pounds to make weight, and then can’t fight…

Trout looked weak… Canelo looked weak… Lara looks fine at 154.

Posted December 9, 2013 3:38 am

in all of this, ther’s an interesting possibility that arises that wasn’t there before…what about Lara/ GGG? Some fans think GGG is a guy that nobody wants to fight but i think Lara & his team would welcome the challenge if Golovkin can make 154…

Herron, not many 154 pounder will answer Lara’s call because he’s a safety first fighter who doesn’t thrill audiences, he’s not TV friendly & that’s big with fans…but if he keeps winning-& i think he will-eventually he’ll get his chance to shine in the big stage. But forget about Floyd…Floyd doesn’t need him & he’ll beat him silly anyways.

Posted December 9, 2013 3:17 am

Joseph Herron

you could be right, largo

Posted December 9, 2013 2:56 am

Joseph, i have a sure answer for you : he beats everybody at 154-Cotto, Canelo, Molina, Andrade, Vanes, Ishe…but Floyd would school him. Nobody beats Floyd in this generation, nobody.

Posted December 9, 2013 2:54 am

i got Zab/Paulie wrong but i was right on Lara & Rigo…Zab did so good against Garcia that i thought that would carry-on his next fight against a non-puncher like PM, but you can’t trust a mental midget & that’s the lesson here…never again.

Since you guys are talking about predictions, who do you think will have the stones to step in the ring with Erislandy Lara in 2014?

Posted December 9, 2013 2:38 am

BTW, this is my prediction on Lara/Trout:”largo

Lara/Trout…Trout seems to want it really bad but Lara is more talented & i see him winning by Decision.

Boxtra, I have Zab by UD.

“Time to watch the #2 Boxer in the ENTIRE Sport of Boxing. Time to watch Agbeko get SLICED, DICED, CHOPPED, and MINCED.” yeah, that might be the case but I don’t see Rigo stopping Agbeko like you predicted…i see Rigo winning but by UD.

Posted December 8, 2013 12:23 am”

“Ok, I was almost right with this one, I picked Lara by SD win to Draw.” Tomato can, you’re right & you made the same mistake with Rigo/Agbeko…you predicted Rigo by TKO & that ain’t happening, nobody KO Agbeko…Rigo will win but by UD, LOL…

Ya mama: “I goggle it and don’t find what your talking about? He was a Olympic. Fighter a Pan am tournament winner many years won many fighter awards World wide. Did you know he undefeated for over 210 fight? 1 draw no lost from back from the armatures days , that make him special he find a way to win, maybe because he a good boy?”

Maybe it’s not so well documented…he had a lot of promotional issues early in his career when he originally signed with PrizeFight Promotions after turning pro…a lot of times, Shawn would have to go back and forth between 154 and 147 in order to stay active and it really caused a lot of problems for him.

Because he and his dad were unhappy with his former promoter, he ended up being iced for 14 months at one time.

That’s one of the reasons why Shawn didn’t look stellar against Gomez and Diaz in back to back fights.

Hidalgo: “Yeah. Talking to James is quite different from talking to Ronnie. I’ll be prepared next time.”

It’s actually quite difficult to direct the flow of the program, on Tuesday nights especially, when dealing with different personalities on the program.

Ronnie is bit more laid back than Gogue and much easier to talk to. James is hardcore…if he doesn’t like a topic, he will let you know it by giving you a very short answer…lol

But they both bring a lot to the show

Posted December 9, 2013 1:27 am

Joseph Herron

Thanks, 1-2!!

Hidalgo, Paulie is a brilliant technical fighter and a true competitor who always seems to get up for the big match-ups.

I wouldn’t doubt it if he actually landed a fight with Floyd Mayweather before his career comes to a halt.

I think it would be a much more entertaining scrap that most realize!

Posted December 9, 2013 1:20 am

Joseph, not too many people seem to take note of it, but isn’t it interesting how Malignaggi goes full tilt for 12 rounds, even at this stage of his career? The guy is a workhorse. Judah found out the hard way.

Posted December 9, 2013 1:17 am

Thanks, 1-2, I appreciate that. Wait until I get technical. LMAO!

Posted December 9, 2013 1:15 am

Joseph- Thanks for the show, it’s real good! And good stuff Hidalgo, good boxing knowledge

Posted December 9, 2013 1:15 am

“It’s much easier said than done, isn’t it?”

Yeah. Talking to James is quite different from talking to Ronnie. I’ll be prepared next time.

I goggle it and don’t find what your talking about? He was a Olympic. Fighter a Pan am tournament winner many years won many fighter awards World wide. I agree, Ya Mama…

Shawn Porter doesn’t get the credit he deserves because of several issues he’s had since turning pro in 2008. You can google everything…it’s well documented

But with all of these issues seemingly out of the way, he proved last night that he’s one of the best fighters at 147…as long as he can continue to make weight

Posted December 9, 2013 12:54 am

Ya mama

True Joseph there is non shame even as he was starting all over. My point was porter view as he never seem to get the credit from way back, it’s alway like now his oponate is heading down hill. Porter here and he has a belt and he fast and hit hard and can take a punch. This is going to be interesting……

You did a great job tonight, Hidalgo!!

You’re welcome on the show anytime, brother.

Next time you talk to Gogue, be more specific as to what kind of response you’re looking for. Because he knows so much about every faction of the sport, you have to be very specific when you’re asking him a question.

If you want a more technical response, you should direct it that way…also, if you want an answer about the business end of the sport, be specific about it.

I kind of got the sense that you were looking for a more technical response concerning Paulie Malignaggi. Next time you’re on the program, lead him a little bit more and he’ll give you a more insightful answer.

It’s much easier said than done, isn’t it?

Ya Mama, a lot of very good fighters get dropped during sparring.

Devon Alexander was dropped by an amateur fighter during the last week of sparring.

But it was his final rounds of the day…Devon had already been through three other fighters and the amateur had fresh legs in the ring.

It doesn’t matter…Canelo was stopped by Keandre Gibson in his preparation for Floyd…that doesn’t mean a darn thing.

Posted December 9, 2013 12:35 am

Joseph, thanks for having me on your show again.

“I don’t think any fighter can prepare for the best version of Kirkland. He is on you from start to finish…he creates a lot of anxiety for every opponent unless you hold him on the inside like Carlos Molina…”

Makes me think of Edwin Valero. Except Valero was hard to hold because he was such a windmill.

Posted December 9, 2013 12:22 am

Ya mama

Too bad we can’t link site,

Posted December 9, 2013 12:21 am

Ya mama

Want to know where porter stand? Lol… goggle porter drop kirkland in sparing, after the nishida lost he was in la.
Where there both were in training for a fight. Kirkland and his old manager ask if they could spar askirland want to know where he stands. So they make arrangements for a sparing section as many round as he wants, porter has fought heavy weight before.
They come over and kirkland is acting tough and get porter angry.
They both get sparing and they both go all out and it’s a bad fight.
Porter is taking kirland shots and returned it. Porter is eating Kirkland up and get his nose bleeding, after 4, round porter say he had enough it’s a work out, James will not let him go and want to go some more sayba few stupid thing and get porter to want to knock James out. They fight each other 4 more round and in the 8 round porter drop kirkland with a counter hard right. After 8 porter trainer say that enough sparing.
Goggle it.

It didn’t look like Tapia prepared for an “in shape” James Kirkland…speaking with him on the Pugilist KOrner last week, he stated that he was ready for the best version of JK.

I don’t think any fighter can prepare for the best version of Kirkland. He is on you from start to finish…he creates a lot of anxiety for every opponent unless you hold him on the inside like Carlos Molina…that’s the only way you can beat this guy on the inside

Posted December 9, 2013 12:09 am

Luke – tapia looks like he has too much mass which may have affected his stamina & punch volume. He was only punching in spurts & going backwards with kirkland’s aggression. I hope this doesn’t halt his career
