People laugh at Danny Garcia because of his clown daddy.

I can’t blame you, Hidalgo…it’s hard to understand Angel Garcia’s points sometimes.

he genuinely seems a little touched. But guys, judge slowly.

I might actually act the same way if my son had to step in the ring with a beast like Lucas Matthysse.

I love AC/DC, man…right on with the Angus moniker!!

my bad, it was malignaggi vs broner. I was at barclays and saw it. you tube it. watch those two guys fall all over the “lady” with blond hair the whole fight. it was funny to watch because dlh didnt watch the fight at all and it was all over the camera. every round those 2 dummy’s both tried to get the “lady’s” attention instead of paying attention to the fight.

Posted September 12, 2013 6:29 am

Herron.., “Look what happened to the ref who merely enforced the rules during the Khan/Peterson bout. He was criticized just for doing his job.”

Khan was pushing because he was desperate.. He couldn’t clinch effectively, fight inside effectively, or defend effectively.. Holding is a foul as well — but if you push, grab, and clinch with a little more finesse than Khan does, you’re not going to get called.

Definitely Kenny Bayless is going to be an asset for Floyd.

“Also, to clarify why Angel brought up welfare checks, is that regardless of your ethnic origin, if you’re living in this country, you should be backing the American fighter.”

Ok, Joseph. Well, I admit that went right over my head. Then again, sometimes my brain just shuts down when Angel starts ranting.

“Love him or hate him, Angel Garcia is drawing some much needed attention to his son and Lucas matthysse.”

That be the truth.

Angel needs to join Oscar in the rehab center. This vato is on Crack. I like Danny, but his dad needs a reality check and Danny will pay for it.I bet Danny fires Angel after this Sat lost.

LOL…that’s some funny stuff, brother!!

Seriously, I have no idea what’s going on there…just what they’ve said to the media…I’m sure I’ll find out by the end of the weekend…too many people like to talk in this industry

Posted September 11, 2013 5:39 pm

shaeffer explaining dlh treatment is a joke. the Swiss banker and dlh had a Filipino tranny sitting next to them at ringside at one of the big fights(garcia judah)and everyone was talking about it. they probably went back to the hotel and smoked $100 bills and played dress up.

With the amount of money that Floyd would bring to any state commission, he would get the benefit of the doubt in any state

Posted September 11, 2013 5:32 pm

Joseph Herron

Oh gosh, Luke…that was horrible.

I can’t believe he didn’t immediately call a halt to the bout right then and there.

You’re right on the money, brother!!

Posted September 11, 2013 5:31 pm

you must admit that mayweather probably wouldn’t get away with it if he fought outside Nevada. the hatton fight would of had a different outcome if it was in England and the ref didn’t put up with it.

Posted September 11, 2013 5:28 pm

I have Garcia moving and pot shotting the first 2-3 rounds , when Lucas is still coming, Garcia will get clipped when trying to load up on his hook.

I just finished watching the final presser and got no new material out of an hour an a half of the same old crap.

if I didn’t have you guys to chat with during that painstaking process, I would be really pissed right now.

Thanks for keeping me company, guys!!

Posted September 11, 2013 5:23 pm

I get that but reverse it. if canelo did the same thing , or rabbit punched he would be getting points taken away. like Castillo 1. i would like to see canelo low blow him every time the forearm went to the throat.

All promoters and fighters look for trends on what a judge likes and dislikes…most fight fans aren’t aware of this.

This is a huge part of boxing.

steve smoger lets a fight be a fight! and stays out of the way. smoger also says lm is the hardest puncher p4p today.

one of the reasons why Floyd gets away with bending the rules so to speak, is because no judge is willing to enforce the rules during an impactful fight of this nature…at least not to the point of hindering the action in the ring and deciding the outcome.

No ref wants to take on that role.

Look what happened to the ref who merely enforced the rules during the Khan/Peterson bout.

he was criticized just for doing his job.

Posted September 11, 2013 5:18 pm

Joseph Herron

Canelo just stated that he was at 155 pounds during the final presser.

I wonder if he weighed himself after he went running? if that’s the case, the final two pounds are going to be rough.

It really means a lot to me when you guys get something out of my work.

Thanks again, brother!!

That’s right, TARK…we really don’t know for sure.

But, as willing as both of these gents have shown in their past to exchange and take shots, I would really be shocked if it went the distance.

Posted September 11, 2013 5:11 pm

Herron says.., “Do you really expect this to go the distance?”

I don’t know.. It will be explosive.. It definitely is dangerous for both.

I give it a 60/40 shot to go 12.. Neither man has ever been stopped.. Both are tough as nails.. Matthysse has grown tired of blind judges and had taken a seek-and-destroy approach in recent fights.

The winner may get Floyd — so a lot of thought has gone into the matchup.

Posted September 11, 2013 5:08 pm

if Floyd didn’t have the Nevada commission including refs on his side that elbow/forearm wouldn’t be allowed and points would be taken.

Posted September 11, 2013 5:05 pm

Joseph Herron

You’re absolutely right…he doesn’t just use his elbows though…that’s what makes him so good.

he uses his entire torso to create distance between him and his opponents. Watch the way he configures his body while an opponent is trying to close the distance on him

Posted September 11, 2013 5:02 pm

JH I am serious , when an opponent gets in close Floyd uses the forearm/elbow every time. his jab to the body sets everything up for him. it sets distance. it makes the other boxer pause, the punch pays dividends more then any other thing Floyd throws besides the forearm

Posted September 11, 2013 4:57 pm

watching and listening to Angel is like watching a car accident, a video of a 7-11 hold-up, a fight on a housewives reality show. meaning its not pretty, kinda makes you wince, but you still watch it. the Garcias might be American but they represent PR more then USA.

I do have a photo and video guy in Vegas though…he’s going to be sending us a lot of great stuff over the next several days.

Also, a very good friend of mine is going to be making the ring walk with The Money Team on fight night…he is a talented young trainer named Rick Morones Jr.

He is letting me write an article on his experiences on fight night.

Posted September 11, 2013 4:53 pm

Looks like a Floyd win, unless he breaks his hand. floyds jab to the body and elbow to the throat wins him every fight. seriously. lucas will win very very easy.

Posted September 11, 2013 4:52 pm

I elected to bypass Vegas and cover the Chavez/Vera fight card in sunny CA instead.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in the rat race out in Vegas right now…and with the amount of coverage that Showtime and GBP is offering, I can cover every single press event as if I were down there.

Very insightful post, Luke.

But what do you think Danny worked on between now and then?

Do you think he improved his footwork or inside game? if not, he’s going to be in serious trouble on the 14th.

This is going to be a 12-round war… Will it be Hagler Hearns???

Both men have great chins as well as great power.

“Lamont Peterson had a great chin.” … No he didn’t.. Lucas was the 1st great puncher Lamont ever faced and he got his head ripped off.

Posted September 11, 2013 4:29 pm

Joseph Herron

I’m right there with you.

The point of me bringing up Angel Garcia was not to glorify his efforts or condemn them. The primary idea of the article was to point out that Golden Boy and Mayweather really dropped the ball with their lack of promotion for the co-main event, and that Angel Garcia could provide a lot of much needed publicity to that.

Love him or hate him, Angel Garcia is drawing some much needed attention to his son and Lucas matthysse.

Posted September 11, 2013 4:28 pm

Joseph, I think Angel is hugely entertaining. Sometimes. But his antics over the last few days border on idiocy. He really is pissed off this time because a lot of American boxing fans are favoring Matthysse over his son. WTF does welfare payments have to do with this match? Americans don’t want to be Argentine, or Mexican, or Puerto Rican or any of that other gibberish Angel was ranting about, they are just rooting for their favorite fighter. He’s insulting fans and indirectly insulting boxing. So, sorry, I have to disagree with you regarding mad man Angel Garcia.

But as for the deserved hype for this fight that hasn’t been happening? Blame GBP and Mayweather Productions. It’s ridiculous really. They book an undercard with two of the biggest names in boxing–Garcia and Matthysse–a fight that very well may steal the show from the main event. But then they smother it with lack of publicity just to make sure it doesn’t overshadow Mayweather/Canelo. Well got news for GBP and MP: Garcia/Matthysse may just do that anyways. I expect it will. Of course I want to see Floyd and Canelo fight but I REALLY want to see the Garcia/Matthysse bout. This will be a fight!

Anyways, Angel? Chupe mi bicha!

Agree with you BRUCE re SALVADOR SANCHEZ (my 2nd favourite fighter)!!!! He was he same age as CANELO ALVAREZ when he died, yet had already faced and beaten ATG fighters in WILFREDO GOMEZ, AZUMAH NELSON and had beaten JUAN LaPORTE & DANNY LITTLE RED LOPEZ twice….. And had made 9 successful defences of his title already!!!!!

Would have been awesome to see him go against SANDY SADDLER, EUSEBIO PEDROZA….

Can’t argue with CHOLO at Lightweight although would have loved to see him take on the likes of BEAU JACK, BOB MONTGOMERY, JOE GANS, JOE BROWN and IKE WILLIAMS……

Garcia is like a smaller Holyfield, he got the stuff, does not care who is in front of him. The big ones will be landing after 30 seconds int his one, and is the reason behind the PPV, they needed a spectacular under card in order to get the PPVs.

Public Enemy

I like both of these guys but I have to root for my homeboy Danny but if Matthyssee wins I’ll be happy for the guy he’s earned it. What gets me pissed off is that they make these guys take on each other in these tough matches early on when they’re just taking off while they let the Canelos, Chavez Jrs duck the tough matches until they get a huge Payday. Hopefully these guys don’t damage each other too much.

Posted September 11, 2013 12:45 pm

Still taking Matthysse by about the 9th round to stop Garcia. But I am rooting for Garcia and hope he can pull it out. No matter who wins both fighters will take there lumps. Great action fight though, or should be.
