Junior will be in over his head. The 48 fights he has fought have not been enough to prepare him for an animal such as Martinez. Junior has not paid his dues Martinez will go right through him

I’m saying it here Martinez wins! Not sure the result KO TKO or UD but one of the 3. And I’ll come back if he loses and make sure you do the same. One of the few PPVS I buy recently.

Posted September 11, 2012 11:43 pm

Gannicus- I agree with Chavez or any fighter with no experience taking a soft route. But you compared Molina with Margo at that point in their careers. No contest Margo was on path to be champ then and Molina was a no name. Also I didnt like paying PPV and seeing Chavez on the undercard with sub journeyman. If he wants to fight them, fine but not on a ppv card where we are paying for good fights. As for Broner hes copying FM and he has big shoes to fill. I saw him at the Ward Dawson weigh in and hes short for his weight. Best of luck to him when he has a fighter with reach and knows how to box on the outside.

Posted September 11, 2012 11:33 pm

They both weighed in @ 167 lbs on the last weigh in-here’s the thing if Chavez is so much bigger than Martinez and he’s such a small 160 lbs fighter then how come he’s only 167 now instead of already weighn 160 or 2least 163? Chavez was right on weight-right on schedule so I don’t think the fight will get cancelled

Posted September 11, 2012 3:46 pm

Me too. So much hype, so little understanding. There is a gulf between these guys in terms of ability. No way can Junior land enough hard body shots early on to offset the effect of the beating he is going to take to the head from the first minute of round one. Martinez by mid-rounds KO.

IF Jr. is skipping workouts he must have always been skipping workouts, i.e., i sincerely doubt that he picked the training camp before the biggest fight of his career to suddenly start skipping workouts. besides, Roach is synonymous with pre-fight drama and pedestrian intrigue that usuallly evaporates into thin air following the opening bell. i’m confident that the best version of Jr. will show up this Saturday. training or no training he likes to Fight and Martinez’s entire style revolves around avoiding a Fight. in fact, you could already see a concerned expression appear on Martinez’s face when the going began to get tough during the middle rounds of his fight v. Pavlik. to his credit, he drew blood, which triggered his killer-instinct and a piranha-like frenzy all over Pavlik’s poor unsuspecting mug. i wouldn’t be shocked if this fight unfolds in the same manner IF Jr. is discouraged rather than incensed and motivated by the sight of his own blood like an Arce. regardless of who wins, it will be a good scrap. Jr. may be outclassed but i’m also anticipating an overwhelmed Martinez wilting and folding and living to fight another day. i suspect that Martinez may be too civilized to get in the dirt and dogfight with a determined and unrelenting Chavez Jr.

Posted September 11, 2012 11:39 am

1-2, Chavez Jr had zero ameture fights-you gotta build the guy up right? Broner has had alot of ameture fights and even though everyone is making a big deal out of him look closely at his competition and you’ll see the samething. You have to build a fighter from the ground up and to many fans don’t become a fan of any particular fighter untill their already the man. Everyone wants the full package right from the jump but Chavez was as green as they get 2 or 3 years ago and he still has a good ways to go. Molina didn’t get robbed-it was a close fight. It’s just like all you ever hear is how Oscar was robbed in the Tito fight where Oscar received 3 gifts-Sturm, Quartey and Sweet Pea-they were robbed Molina lost a close fight that he could’ve won also so he should’ve tore Chavez up in the rematch but he didn’t and couldn’t

Posted September 11, 2012 11:17 am

All their going to do is switch it up cause all they are is a bunch of Sunday critics. That means we’ll hear how they changed their pic right before the fight or they wont come on for awhile or they make some excuses. We’ll hear from the Martinez camp how he tore a muscle or something went wrong in training but he didn’t want to cancel the fight. Martinez is not a great fighter-his resume shows he’s good and even when he’s in tough fights vs B level guys he finds a way to come out on top. Pav and Williams wasn’t B level guys but his resume is stacked with lower level fighters. I believe Chavez at some point in this fight will start dominating Martinez in a bad way-every fighter at some point finds themselves at a certain level and fans and critics want to see if they can past the test-well here’s the test for Chavez. He made it to this level by hard work so even if he lose-if he puts 4th a good effort then he’s still the real deal, but what happens if Chavez just flat out whoop Martinez ass-what then

Posted September 11, 2012 8:45 am

Martinez is a good fighter-not top 5 P4P with his resume, but he is a top 10 P4P fighter. I see no need for Floyd a fighter thats only fought twice at 154 to feel like he has to fight Martinez. Martinez wants it all his way-he says Ward that comes in the ring weighing 176 is to big for him yet he’ll fight Chavez who comes in at 180 or more according to y’all. The only reason why he’ll fight Chavez is because he can’t see no way Chavez can beat him but he knows Andre Ward will tear his ass inside out with no problem. Ward is a 168 lbs fighter but he could meet Martinez at a catch weight and on fight night he would be smaller than Chavez but skill level is why he wants Chavez and size is why he wants Mayweather and Pacman. You guys can call hater all you want but I know what I see. I’m going for Chavez cause I believe he can win this and I hope he does just so I can hear all you grown men come on hear and make excuses for Martinez and then say how Chavez should fight guys his own size like Froch and guys like that

Posted September 11, 2012 8:38 am

looks like 99% going for martinez ill remember that after the fight…ill eat my words if chavez losses. no prob

Posted September 11, 2012 8:32 am

Floyd Mayweather started his career at 130 lbs and he went as high as 154-but the fact of the matter is he didn’t weigh 154 when he fought Cotto or Oscar he weighed less so I don’t care if he fights freaking Martinez or not. Here’s the thing-Chavez weighs more than what Andre Ward weighs on fight night-I know this, Martinez knows this and his crazy band wagon fans that were no where to be found untill he became a star knows this. Martinez has no problem whats so ever fighting Chavez who comes in at 178 to 180 on fight night but wont fight Ward who comes in at 176 on fight night and why is this-because he has no chance at all at even competing with Ward-we’re talking a str8 shut out-no competition at all. Floyd doesn’t have to fight anybody 154 or bigger if he choses-the fight I want Floyd in is with Pac. Martinez needs to worry about Chavez because if he loses this fight fair and aquare he is a laughing stock from all the trash he’s talked for over a year.

Posted September 11, 2012 8:31 am

Ward didn’t look boring last Saturday and Max didn’t call out Ward for him-GGG said he’ll fight the best from 154 t 168-he already said he would even fight Ward before his last fight. Max just wanted all the fans to hear that. The fact of the matter is GGG wants to fight all the best-last I checked Martinez was a 160 lbs fighter and so was Chavez-you guys keep bringing up size like this is a grudge match since Chavez comes in fight night bigger than Ward does plz explain to me what the problem is for Martinez to fight Ward? Ward weighed 176 the night he fought Dawson and Chavez weighs around that mush when he fights also-his fight vs Rubio he came in 180 on fight night so my question is what’s the problem since he doesn’t have any problems fighting the much much bigger Chavez as you like to state then he shouldn’t have a problem fighting a man that comes in the ring the day of the fight lighter than Chavez. I tell you what the problem is-Martinez has nothing but an out classing of an ass whooping before he gets stopped that’s why.

Posted September 11, 2012 8:24 am

Martinez is going to mop the floor with this Dieuretic Cheating bum like Mosely did with a MargaCheato without his Cement Wraps… It will be a humiliating non-stop beat down until someone either throws in the towel, Chicken Jr. drops to his knees or the Ref decideds to save this Steriods abusing bums life…

Posted September 11, 2012 7:05 am

Agreed: S.G.Martinez is 100% the linear champion. However time waits for no man & he is hopping on a bit.

Posted September 11, 2012 7:05 am

While there’s a big gap in skill level between Chavez and Martinez,i’m not sure Sergio will have enough power to keep Chavez off.Zbik hit Chavez with some flush shots and Chavez didnt blink.I’m not sure if its just Chavez having a weight advantage or if Ariza is giving Chavez some chin strengthening “supplements” as well as the weight loss and 24 hour weight regain “supplements”. I hope i’m wrong. And i hope Chavez is tested fully for any illegal substances. If there’s no funny business and this is a fair fight, sergio will have too much for Chavez.

Posted September 11, 2012 6:31 am

Chavez might be a physical monster teetering on the edge of the weight class, but in reality there is a clear skill gap between these guys, and also likely a stamina difference. Chavez is going to be wasting a lot of firepower in this fight trying to hit something that isn`t there, and the last 4 rounds are going to be unpleasant for him – maybe enough to make him give in.

M. Mendoza

It’s all an act designed to deceive the Martinez people (they can’t be that gullible)! Also, Roach always tries to get in comments on the 24/7 about his boxers slacking off on something — this is no exception.

Posted September 11, 2012 1:26 am

The Boxing Guru

All this talk of Martinez becoming the “new” champion annoys me. He is the champion and has been since he beat Kelly Pavlik. The WBC does not dictate who the champion is, only who their titlist is. What is weird is that even Martinez acts like he some how isn’t the real champion just because the WBC rediculously took it from him. It is just a trinket belt, not a real lineal championship. Sometimes the lineal champ may hold the WBC belt or any of the other various trinkets, but these belts do not make the champion. Beating the champion is what makes you the champion. Bernard Hopkins unified the belts to become undisputed and lineal champion. Taylor narrowly edged Hopkins, only to eventually lose to Kelly Pavlik. Martinez then beat Pavlik. He is the man who beat the man, and is therefore the real champion, regardless of what some corrupt sanctioning body says about it. The WBC belt was basically given to Chavez as a marketing tool to fool those who would believe it, that he is the real world champion. He is not. He has evolved into a real contender however. We will find out if he can be champion. Martinez is the real champion, and Chavez is the challenger. Chavez better be playing off this non chalant training style or like this author says, or he will be in trouble. Both Martinez and Chavez weighed 167 lbs at the 7 day weigh in so perhaps Chavez is in better shape than the 24/7 film suggests. The actual weighin is what will give us the real indication of what is what. Until then, it is all speculation.

Robret, Martinez is NOT an Arum/Top Rank fighter.

Posted September 10, 2012 11:38 pm

Regardless of whether Chavez is acting or not, he better be prepared for the fight of his life! Now, don’t get me wrong because I’m not taking anything away from Chavez, but Martinez has the ability to make Chavez start faster than he normally does and fight at a pace he will not be comfortable with. Chavez must plant his feet to throw power shots, but Martinez can keep him on his heels where he is less effective. Hard body shots will make Chavez feel that massive overnight weight gain, and Martinez will test his chin when he walks in. Chavez has never faced anything like the speed, skill, or determination of a Martinez, and that within itself is going to presents a big problem for Chavez!

Posted September 10, 2012 11:38 pm

Martinez is not an Arum fighter, he’s a DiBella fighter.

Posted September 10, 2012 11:32 pm

Great article, and I was thinking the same as many others as I watched it: This kid might not even make weight for this fight! It’s hard to think it’s a ploy when, as the article very well says, Chavez looks kinda soft in the middle.
In terms of his working hours, Mayweather is also a guy with weird hours, running after hours, etc… so I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing, but his mindset and focus do not seem to be all there.
Hopefully it’s one of those things where they edit to create some drama and Jr. is in shape, because otherwise he’s throwing all his hard work down the drain and Martinez will make him pay.

Does Chicken Jr. believe anyone other then his coolaid drinking Fans really follow his bogus boxing Career?? Of course Chicken Jr. didn’t say this to Sergios face in the Face off he said it while in a back alley with his dumbfk buddies in front of the 24/7 camera… total coward…

Posted September 10, 2012 9:42 pm

Whats the policy is JCC Jr pulls out of the fight (due to weight issues or whatever) with Pay per view buys…do they reimburse you or are you screwed?

Posted September 10, 2012 9:12 pm

B/C Ward is boring to watch and everyone wants to see Sergio give Mayweather his first “L”.

Posted September 10, 2012 9:01 pm

We’ll see if Chavez can even make weight. Maybe he is looking for an out.

Posted September 10, 2012 9:00 pm

wrong…you are defending the actions of Mayweather of potentially not taking a fight with Martinez. The truth is, is that Martinez is fighting a much MUCH larger opponent on Saturday. I think he deserves a shot at Mayweather (pending a win vs JCC JR). Don’t get me wrong, I applaud Mayweather fighting Cotto at that weight…why not let Martinez fight him as well at that same weight. The reason why you have a problem with this fight is because all Mayweather fans are scared that Sergio will dominate and knock Mayweather off the top of the hll.

Posted September 10, 2012 8:59 pm

No…Max Kellerman called out Ward for GGG.

Posted September 10, 2012 8:52 pm

Chavez Jr. will be chasing all night while absorbing punishment. He will be stopped due to accumulation of punishment. Someone will stop it whether it be Roach, the ref, or Chavez Sr.

Posted September 10, 2012 8:18 pm

I don’t think jr is playing mind games. This is the first time his training is televised . We cant say he’s done this before. He’s just a fool. He just don’t know how to act in front of the camera nor in the beautiful rental house. He seems like a kid when gets a new toy.

Posted September 10, 2012 8:16 pm

this will b an awesome fight in the end I can only see one outcome and that’s Sergio taking a brutal beating before being separated from his senses

Posted September 10, 2012 8:10 pm

I am surprised too. I’m guessing most a Mexican loyalists? I also think that Martinez is going to outclass Chavez. Junior is going to miss and he is going to miss often. I predict that he’ll suffer a Jeff Lacy-esque beatdown.

Posted September 10, 2012 7:32 pm

Your not comparing Molina(who was an untested 8 fight pro with Margarito who was on the verge for a title shot) are you? Fact is Molina got robbed in that fight and no one including Jrs people knew who he was otherwise Jr wouldnt have fought him. Just look at all the set ups they fed Jr on the undercards of PPVs and Molina at 8 fights on paper fits the opponent. Also Margo didnt just conveniently learn how to load his gloves. A year or two after he fought Martinez he dam near ripped Sebastian Lujans ear off. How many times have you seen that? Ive never and probabaly have seen 1000 fights amateur and pro. Chavez has huge money behind him and I hope it doesnt efect the outcome of this fight.

I’m surprised by the number of posters who think Chavez, not only has a shot, but say he will win? I question the general boxing knowledge of these individuals. Martinez is going to destroy Jr even if he trains hard. Freddie Roach can’t help him. Senior can’t help him. Bob Arum can’t help him. He is doomed some Saturday night.

Posted September 10, 2012 7:06 pm

Co-sign this post. I couldn’t agree more. It’s both fascinating and scary to watch. This is no act and unfortunately HBO is there to chronicle it all. Martinez is going to destroy this kid.

Posted September 10, 2012 6:53 pm

I’ll remember you wrote this!

Posted September 10, 2012 6:26 pm

I agree! A fight isn’t won solely with your size and power….it’s won with skills. Of course, knowing how to use your size and strength is imperative. Chavez HAS shown that he knows how to use it, BUT, that was against opponents who lacked maneuverability and the ability to counter while on the move..Martinez is GREAT at that. If Chavez thinks that Martinez is going to back straight up he’s got another thing coming, Martinez is great at using angles, he knows how to position himself to avoid getting hit and enable himself to strike with accuracy and power. It shall be interesting.

Posted September 10, 2012 5:59 pm

Wow that was clever!

Posted September 10, 2012 5:56 pm

PabloG, you can’t be serious bro-Chavez fought Molina the guy that was putting on a show vs Kirkland early in his career. Your talking about 17 pro fights lol-Vargas, Reid, Mayweather and many more were champs by their 17th pro fights give me a break. I wasn’t tryn to down Martinez when I mention the Margarito fight-just stating facts he lost the fight. Just because Margarito beat him out the ring doesn’t mean Chavez can do it. I saw the Cintron fight and yes he was robbed-I never said he wasn’t-you’re in such a rush to come back and defend Martinez that you continue to put words in my mouth. Dude, I would run circles around you with my boxing IQ so please stop it. I have people stopping me just to talk about boxing cause they know I know. We’re all giving opinions but all I’m really sayn is Martinez should be going after GGG or Pirog-the best 160 lbs fighters instead of calling out Mayweather when their not even thinking about him-they don’t care about him @ all. If Martinez lose to Chavez Jr he’s gonna get a whole lot of slack-a whole lot of it. Your calling me a hater why cause I said Ward and Hopkins wanted to fight him at a catch weight and he didn’t want the fights-well it’s the truth or that Pirog another 160 lbs fighter has been calling him out well over a year-well once again it’s the truth-you need to come better than the hater stuff bro-I love boxing-I don’t love any boxer-I love their style and what the bring-the heart-I love this sport so I appreciate every single fighter thats in it

Posted September 10, 2012 5:18 pm

PabloG, just because I don’t agree or everybody doesn’t agree what you say doesn’t make them a hater. When did I say the Williams win was a fluke-see your putting words in my mouth cause it was a good win and I won money on that fight. What I’m sayn about Pav was he wasn’t finish with rehab but hey-that’s Pav fault cause he thought Martinez wasn’t nothing to worry abut and neither did I. So they are 2 good wins but there not good enough to place him top 5 P4P, but I never said he wasn’t top 10 P4P just not top 5 off his comp. Now Ward ask to meet him at a catch weight and so did Hopkins-they wanted to meet Martinez at a catch weight but he didn’t want the fights. Pirog is a good 160 lbs fighter and he was calling Martinez out b4 Martinez started calling Jr out but Martinez tried to say the fight wouldn’t sell and what does he do-he goes and fight 3 guys most fans never seen fight b4 and if you did see Macklin fight it wasn’t more than 2 time’s. The thing is he had 3 guys calling him out and one of them was the same size and he didn’t want it because Pirog is a very good fighter. You notice he’s still calling out Mayweather right-Mayweather didn’t even make 154 when he fought Cotto-here’s my question why wouldn’t he call out Triple G-why keep caling out smaller fighters or guys like Chavez whom you really think you can beat-call out Triple G-you notice how GGG won his fight and called out every top fighter from 154 – 168-he specifically called out Ward. I like Martinez but he only wants to fight sure bets or what he think a sure bet is

Posted September 10, 2012 5:07 pm

rjack58, you got me wrong bro. I never said his comp was weak, I said it’s to be respected but not enough to place him P4P over Bradley, JMM, Donaire, Ward, Froch or the K brothers. I even think Dawson resume is better as well. Now thats my opinion and I’m not hating on him cause I like him and I really love the work he does outside the ring for abused women but his resume IMO is tic for tac with Chavez Jr. Pac beat the breaks off Bradley but it’s marked as a lost so most took Pac down a notch on the P4P list and Martinez beat Cintron but it was called a draw. You can’t even count Margarito cause he beat Martinez out of the ring and I don’t care how many fights he had his people thought he was ready but Margarito showed him other wise. Martinez resume is slightly better than Chavez but it’s not worthy of top 5 P4P thats all I’m sayn

Posted September 10, 2012 4:55 pm

maybe the diuretics will save Jr. again …

Posted September 10, 2012 4:47 pm

KnucKled Eye

The work out he skipped was after 12 consecutive works outs. Like Jr. said, he knows his body and listens to what it says. That being said, I think he is relying too much on his size and power to win the fight. SM is a highly skilled boxer and can nullify Chavez’s strengths better than Chavez can his. SM by decision or Jr’s corner throwing in the towel.

Posted September 10, 2012 4:24 pm

Hecdog, you could be right. Lots of boxers panic before their big coming out party. It’s sink or swim time and it sounds like Jr doesn’t think he’ll beat Martinez whether he trains to 100% shape or 60%.

Posted September 10, 2012 3:55 pm

Agreed! I think they’re focusing on the “skipping workouts” to dramatically increase the interest in the fight…to get fans talking (like we are now), but I really don’t think it’s that bad. they’re icing the crap out of the cake. It’s a promotional series (24/7) after all.

Posted September 10, 2012 3:54 pm

As far as their “war of words” goes…Martinez appears to believe his more than Chavez believes in his own, Martinez speaks them with an immense amount of confidence, as where Chavez seems to be reading them out of a book. That might not say much about their actual “confidence”, but if expressions and attitudes are the windows to their “confidence”, I’d say Martinez is VERY confident.

Posted September 10, 2012 3:51 pm

If Chavez Jr is being lax in his training he’s a dead man walking. That he’s skipping workouts suggests it’s not a bluff.

Posted September 10, 2012 3:50 pm

If Chavez is in real danger of getting damanged his corner will pull him out of the fight.. That’s what they do when a kid is worth millions and millions.., “Sorry Julio, we’re stopping it. We’ll come back another day and you’ll kill this guy.”

Posted September 10, 2012 3:41 pm

Marvelia is going to do to Chavez what Andre did to Dawson. Everyone keeps talking about the size and the weight from what I saw prior to the fight. I saw a blown up Chavez. Saturday on 24/7 i saw a trim Chavez but perhaps a weight drained Chavez. Act or no act you don’t lose that much weight in a 2wk period and expect to perform at an elite level

Martinez is going to spend quite a bit of time mocking Jr with his hands down because he wants to humiliate this paper champion! Maybe Sergio’s right….Maybe Jr will retire after this beating!! We can only hope he’s been properly compensated!

Tark, Senior WILL NEVER leave him alone, that’s his first BORN and his namesake!! Senior was trying to get through his THICK SKULL!!

Posted September 10, 2012 3:08 pm

The problem in cases like this is, everybody expected Chavez Jr to be a fighter from the time he was 2 years old… He’s probably bored to tears with Boxing by now and can’t even escape it by taking a dip in the pool. Chavez Sr is coaching him while he’s swimming and ignoring him. If he wasn’t any good Sr would leave him alone. But he has a world title and is potentially a mutimillion dollar earner who can sell out any venue with an opponent like Martinez. Whenever somebody seems to have the potential to make so much money, tons people come out of the woodwork and try schmooze his face off.. This can be pretty tiring …. This fight will be the wake up call Jr needs. His ride is not so easy as it’s been this far.

Posted September 10, 2012 3:05 pm

I don’t believe it’s an “act”, I believe that Chavez is just listening to his body…sometimes the trainer can say “do this, do that, go run, get up early” and blah blah blah….but they’re not the ones doing it, the fighter (Chavez) is, and if the fighter’s body is saying “rest”, then you should rest. If you’ve ever followed a workout regimen, you’ll know that one of the most important tips they give you is, “work hard, but if you need a break, take it”.

Posted September 10, 2012 3:01 pm

You can´t possibly be serious, can you? Go and actually watch the Cintron fight (WATCH IT), instead of going to boxrec to see the results, and you will clearly see that Martinez was robbed of a KO in the 7th round, and then was robbed again in a decision that should have never been a draw. You are actually using the argument of Margarito…when that fight took place more than 12 years ago? And…Martinez had only 17 fights as a pro, and had never fought out of Argentina…I mean, what would have happened if JR had faced real opposition in his 17th fight as a pro…I tell you what would have happened: he would have left the ring in an ambulance! You can´t even spell Dzinziruk? Ok, case closed…you should be a fan of another sport…perhaps badminton or water polo would be better suited for your in depth analysis prowess

Gannicus, what’s up?? I HEAR you preaching the GOSPEL of Chavez Jr, that’s your right. BUT you saying that Martinez RESUME is WEAK, is WAY OFF. WHO has CHAVEZ fought that’s at the LEVEL of Williams, Pavlik, Margarito of Cintron?? Chavez will get HURT badly come Saturday night NOT because he COULDN’T beat Martinez but because he didn’t TAKE it SEROUSLY enough to PREPARE adequately!

Because Martinez has already moved up quite a bit, from 147 to 154 and then on to 160…why won´t Floyd fight Martinez at 154? He fought Cotto at 154, but he does not want to fight Martinez at that weight? Why doesn´t Ward move down to 160? Oh wait, he wants to Martinez to move up AND the fight must be held in Oakland, otherwise there´s no way in hell he is doing it. He is not even willing to meet in the middle…
Of course there´s better fighters than Barker and Macklin (though Macklin did beat Sturm in Germany despite what the judges ruled), but if you are a hater, you obviously will never give him credit for KOing his last four opponents, and of course, you will claim the the PWill KO was a fluke, that Pavlik was on his way down, and many other things. So he´s only looking to fight smaller guys? He´s a natural 154 pounder and he took on Pavlik who was 178lbs on fight night, and he´s taking on Chavez who will definitely be around 180lbs on fight night, but you know, when you are a hater, you are a hater…and arguments won´t change a thing. The reality is all the top names did not want to fight him, arguing that he doesn´t sell. I guess this fight with Chavez is proving them all wrong, uh?
But of course, Victor Ortiz (vs Mayweather) or Austin Trout (vs Cotto) or Bradley (vs Paquiao) all sell more than Martinez, right?

Mr. T

I agree, doesn’t matter if Chavez is training seriously or not. I know he’s going to overrun Martinez. I see Martinez putting on the best show of his life, but compare this fight to Broner vs Escobedo, Marftinez is playing the role of Escobedo, sorry fight freaks.

I have one even better Mr. WTF-if Floyd can move up from 130 all the way up to 154 then why can’t Martinez move up to 168 or meet Ward @ a catch weight? Why can’t Martinez accept the challenge from either Hopkins or Ward rather than look to fight smaller guys and the 1 guy he fights thats around his size he only really want the fight because he feels the guy isn’t on his level. Lets be honest about Martinez because there were always better 160 fighters than Barker and Macklin & the other unheard of 154lbs guy that moved up to fight Martinez. Martinez is all hype thanks to a 1 hitter quitter he hit Williams with. Boxing fans have no clue on what their looking at. While I do give Martinez his props I just don’t think he’s a top P4P fighter thats all

Wipeout! You bunch of idiots are gonna see the best chin in boxing walk through this undercover homo like a MACK TRUCK. 200 lbs. on fight night baby, Chavez Jr. has to win, if he loses, his career is over as we know it. That’s not happening, no way in hell.

Fraude needs to grow a pair and start taking on real challengers and not these old over the hill smaller Mexicans.. The Cotto fight was good but we all know Cotto has never been the same since the Master of Plaster MargaCheato did his dirty deed on Cotto and since Paqquio forced Cotto to starve himself…
Fraude needs to take on Sergio Martinez at 160lbs to redeem himself..

Posted September 10, 2012 1:40 pm

If unbeaten Tito Trinidad could move up in weight and take on middleweight Champion Bernard Hopkins at his full 160lbs then why can’t Fraude move up in weight and take on Sergio Martinez at 160lbs? without any paquiao type Weight Drain Demands? Once Sergio flushes Chicken Jr. down the Toilet this Saturday Mayweather needs to step up like Tito Trindad did and challenge Sergio Martinez at his Full 160lb weight class…

I’m grown I don’t make excuses for any other grown man. I’m going for Chavez, I think Martinez is a good boxer, seems like a good person but I still think he’s over rated big time. His resume should be respected but the only big names on his resume is Pav and Williams-every1 else other than Margarito were B level fighters and Cintron is included in that

Wow I had never looked at it like that.

I Don’t care what you think-the Zbik/ Chavez fight was very close and could’ve went either way. Pacman did waay better in his so called losing effort vs Bradley then Martinez did with his draw vs Cintron. I thought Martinez won, but Cintron wasn’t blown away-he put up a good fight-I thought he lost to Martinez though. You need to chose a different sport if you think Martinez comp is good enough to be considered top 3 P4P

Posted September 10, 2012 1:23 pm

Floyd and Pac has done waaay more than Martinez. Ward has done alot more than Martinez-WTF and WTF has Martinez defeated besides Williams and Pav-who? I’ll go even further-The K brothers has done alot more than Martinez-even Donaire another hyped up fighter-he’s done more. Dawson has foughter better guys than Martinez did and wasn’t even a top 10 fighter b4 the Ward fight. I just need to know and understand that Pavlik a fighter every1 thought fell off and Williams isn’t all it takes to be top P4P. Ward has done alot more-I know I know I’m hating is what you’ll say but all I’m tryn to figure out is when Martinez comp become so great? Beating that version of Pav and stopping Williams makes you top 3 P4P-some even have him number 2-come on get the hell real. So now if he does beat Chavez up-even though most of y’all think thats what he’s gonna do anyway-are we suppose to give him even more props-Martinez says with a win over Chavez he’ll be on Mayweather’s heels get the hell real-Pavlik, Williams, Barker and Macklin gets you to the top huh-while beating a good version of Johnson, Tarver, a good Hopkins and Adamek gets you @ the bottom of the P4P right-get out of here Chavez comp is right up there with Martinez comp

Posted September 10, 2012 1:20 pm

If you believe that CIntron drew that fight, or that Chavez beat Zbick I suggest you chose a different sport.

Posted September 10, 2012 1:14 pm

If Chavez Jr. is acting on 24/7 then so beat it ….I could tell you this Martinez doesn’t look like he is acting…all his words are honest and straight forward and very personal also …he looks very focus and determine to beat Chavez Jr even though we see just a glimpse of their true workout on 24/7..he is preparing for war !!

Posted September 10, 2012 1:13 pm

Martinez has an out of shaped Pavlik that was in rehab on his resume, along with Barker, Margarito(which he lost) Cintron(which he drew) Macklin and Sergie Szsoric or however you spell it and Chavez has Molina 2X’s-Duddy, Zbik, Manfredo, Rubio and Lee on his resume. What is the real difference in the opposition 4real without insults? Who the hell has Martinez defeated to be a top 5 P4P fighter? Bradley has fought better guys-not fiction fact-JMM has done more not fiction fact.

Just one thing werent they saying the same thing about paquiao in most of his camps from Freddy roach and he demolished all of them except marquez and thats when they said he trained the hardes?? Hmmm weird

It’s going to be easier for Chavez Jr fans to swallow defeat if they believe their fighter was not 100% prepared. Arum is too clever and he is trying to salvage the kid’s image after Martinez beats him on Saturday,

Posted September 10, 2012 12:38 pm

One has to wonder, why would HBO and Arum expose the undisciplined and lazy nature of one of their cash cows for everyone to see?

At some point in the show, I realized that they are doing this on purpose but it has nothing to do with deceiving Martinez as the 24/7 show is not made for Martinez to watch, is made for the masses to watch.

So why are they blatantly telling us that Chavez Jr is a spoiled, undisciplined, lazy brat?

Because Roach, Arum, HBO and JC Chavez Sr know that Junior is likely to lose the first fight of his career next Saturday, so they are laying the ground for an excuse that would allow them to squeeze a few more fights before Jr is fatally exposed.

After Martinez disposes of him on Saturday the narrative is going to be “Jr. learned a lesson” “He is now becoming a disciplined and hard working fighter” “you are now going to see the new Junior” etc, etc, etc..

A chain smoker than can outrun your ass and more than likely put a beatdown on you even at his age. lmao

Posted September 10, 2012 12:15 pm

Chavez Sr is a chain smoker. cough cough !

Posted September 10, 2012 12:05 pm

Chavez Sr has taught Jr to box for over 20 years.. He’s long since repeated everything 5,000 times.. It’s freakin’ boring and he’s not a trainer. Sr is trying to show Jr how to jab and he never had a jab. Jr could have an excellent jab because he’s very tall, unlike his father, but nobody has shown him how to jab as yet. It’s not a matter of having natural jabbing ability or not — because maybe one kid in 10,000 has a natural jab. If you want a crackling, sizzling, tireless, lightning, deceptive jab, so you can jab the crap out of the best boxers out there, somebody has to teach it to you. Manny Steward isn’t the greatest all around technical trainer, he can’t teach a left hook to the body for instance, but he’s an example of a trainer who can teach the jab.

Neil (pomy)

I cant see Chavez winning this at all.

Posted September 10, 2012 11:55 am

Very interesting article. Thanks. Of course, Sergio was always the Champion. He will just be taking back the crown he always owned. I hope that will be the case next weekend.
Whatever does happen, the truth is that Jr has continuing bad HABITS.
He has gotten by so far but I never thought he could get by on the championship level. Not if he has to make weight and be drug tested on a routine basis. He can’t be saved all the time by diuretics to drain weight and then add back 20 pounds to overwhelm his opponents forever.
