Yeah just like TROUT who was suppose to OUT BOX Canelo. The TROUT who had FASTER HAND SPEED BETTER LEGS BETTER DEFENCE Yeah I saw that. ha ha ha ha ha.. Trout did NOTHING of the KIND Trout did try a NEW MOON walk… Only thing TROUT had better was CONDITIONING I admit that. Didnt do him much good he still LOST the fight. He was UNDEAFTED at the time also. Trout was NO joke, hes a good slick boxer I give him Kudoos.

@La Frontera

I’m sure the Money team thought about that variable and know that they are going to fight the boy and not the perception. You’re hoping and praying Canelo will win but his resume shows his youth.

Posted July 9, 2013 2:47 am

@SREDMAN~ First of all, read my post again! I’m not saying Judah won the fight but, he did do better in the first 4 rounds than FM did, due in part to his speed and power. I know you think FM is Jesus and almighty but, your ass needs to chill out and learn what the hell is going on. The thread is what strategy Canelo needs to beat Mayweather. I’m just giving my opinion! So, since you’re the self proclaimed man on Eastside boxing, give me your opinion on how Canelo can beat Mayweather or are you just going to keep being the ultimate fanboy, nuts hangin from your bubblin lips trying to explain how Canelo has no chance. Just for the record, I believe FM schools Canelo but, I also believe we can have intelligent conversations on a subject we both like, although we have different opinions at times.

This is how you beat Mayweather…You fight the man not the perception, which is what Canelo will do. Many of Mayweather’s opponents were beat before entering the ring. I’m sure De la Hoya’s plan failed him when Floyd entered the ring with that ridiculous looking sombrero essentially making a mockery of the Mexican holiday. Not to mention all of the insulting remarks made leading up to the fight. What did De la hoya do? He wasted all of his energy in the first few rounds. You can’t compete in this sport without controlled aggression. Give Mayweather credit for pulling some of Ali’s genius from the archives.

September 14th will be Canelo’s night. He has all the tools to complete the task.

Good math…But your equation failed to include Canelo”s youth. Sounds like you along with the “Money” team didn’t bother to look at that variable, which is a good thing or else they probably wouldn’t have signed the fight!

POOR FLOYD MAYWEATHER.. Defence is cracking, stands more flat footed.. His opponent is YOUNG and STRONG. Alverez is a NATURAL 154 pounder.. CANELO CAN PUNCH IN BOTH HANDS.. ROY JONES said this a couple of years ago. Canelos hand speed isnt exactly SLOW either. Hmmmmm Whats CHERRYPICKER going to do?????? It will be interesting watching FLOYD getting KTFO.

Well all I can say is ZAB JUHDA gave a pretty good performance against GARCIA BETTER than any other YOUNG GUN.. Yes I am a ZAB JUHDA FAN, Yes Zab is past his prime. But what a great fighter he was when he was younger. You people better give ZAB the respect he deserves.

sorry this article is whack , yeah canelo, don’t train too much. He’s too slow and too lazy he’ll get comprehensively beat.

Again you will have to resume your candlelight vigil for Canelos unbeaten record because he’s about to lose it against a 36 year old smaller fighter and look terrible in the process… Castillo??HHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Hidalgo, as per usual you extreme speculations and haitorical rewrites have yielded NADA you just tried to selll at least 4 ridiculous bouts no one wanted to see again and taking a leak on your snozzz only seemed appropriate… Ortiz, Judah, Marquez and Oscar? Get real an intelligent fight fan would have been more prone to say even Cotto who showed his class while losing over 12 rounds clearly… Alas you are the ONLY advocate for Floyd facing a juiced version of Mosley and you would seek to detract from Mayweathers win on the basis of FMJ’ having enhanced testing during their bout… Only a true Dog would take this position… But then again I can see your collar…Lol!

The vision of you running around your little studio apartment, screaming with your arms flailing at the air above your head, is really disconcerting. I recommend you work a lot of O.T. in your security guard job at the multi-level parking complex across the street from your tenement. Zab Judah’s “BEST” was seen LONG ago and he had a chance against Mayweather and ultimately turned to obvious cheating to stop the assault which had him lose WIDELY…. He never has anything to lose but he KEEPS losing you IDIOT…Judah has 8 losses and he cannot get wins over fighters like Garcia but he is gonna shock the world and beat Floyd years after anyone takes him seriously as a Top Fighter? if Floyd rematched Judah, Ortiz and Marquez how much credit would a nutcase like Hidalgo give him? NONE and most of the public would not either thats why these bouts are NEVER gonna happen…. Start making excuses for why Canelo lost thats your best course of action in this regard….

Posted July 8, 2013 11:58 am

Zab Judah???? C’mon man Mayweather DOMINATED a fresher much younger version of Judah who has since folded almost EVERYTIME he stepped up his comp… Cotto, Clottey, Khan stopped him so WTF would we expect from Zab at this point? He looks happy in the ring if the fight goes 12 he is there for the paydays the guy is not booking wins over ANY of the top fighters he faced absent ekeing out one against Matthyessee which included a trip to the canvas… Boxing against guys is NOT some sort of tournament where you keep fighting till you get the result you want… The notion that Marquez could really defeat Mayweather at this point or any other is gut busting in it’s conception….JMM took heavy fire from Pacquiao before he set him up and drilled him… Mayweather would feed him jabs, right hands and the whole Mayweather arsenal all over again… Stop Dreaming and discuss some really boxing… Mayweather could take Judah and Marquez on the same night at this point….

Posted July 8, 2013 11:53 am

Who wanted to see Oscar/FMJ a second time? It was a DUD fight and NO ONE absent the Brain Dead Hidalgo wants to see Ortiz get knocked out again… Of course he leaps to the defense of a guy who thinks imitating a Billy Goat in the ring is sound boxing… Ortiz has been further pushed down the ladder and forgotten…Hildalgo spins UNPROVEN tales of Shane being “PED free” for the first time against Floyd so basically when Hidalgo is saying is that he wants Floyd to face a “Juiced Version” of Shane LOL!!! The lengths these haters will go to in order to try and tear down a PROVEN great fighter!

Posted July 8, 2013 11:44 am

Delahoya called Canelo boxings “Super Star”? come on man, just because you have a bunch of mexican fans does not mean he is a Super Star, and that’s only because he (Canelo) has red hair and looks like a Gringo, the truth. Floyd will take 2 rounds to feel the young lion out, then take Canelo into the deep for a good schooling. GBP will throw anyone under the bus to make some money, lets see how they treat Canelo after this loss.

The Anti-Mayweather contingent ALWAYS dream that the Ghost of Castillo is gonna come out of the grave and LOSE to Floyd for a 3rd time or show the NEXT guy who to LOSE a UD or two….Canelo Alvarez had a PUNCHERS chance of beating Floyd Mayweather and nothing more, he is younger and much bigger come fight night and this is boxing so a big punch can negate anyones skillset but if he goes 12 he is gonna lose unless Floyd stops him… There is NOT a single boxer that is better than Mayweather operating today and only a few historically that can box as well as he can in pure fashion… He does NOT allow his opponents to use their best assets and he is the ultimate Ring General….. Canelo is gonna be that latest guy to be utterly confused and dominated THEN all the guys saying he is FMJ’s best opponent (crazy statement) and that he is gonna win will begin thier spin campaign, he was too drained, too inexperienced, Floyd did not stand toe to toe… This is SIMPLY a game they play that Floyd fans should REALLY enjoy… Personally I RELISH the excuses that Canelo proponents will make when Money May makes this look easy, and its gonna be VERY easy… Alvarez is too slow, too economical and he has to setup to punch and when he does Floyd will be across the ring or giving him angles… A good yet not dominant win over Austin Trout is not gonna prep you for Floyd Mayweather, Canelo shoulda tried this in 2 years if he really wanted to win FMJ would be close to 39 then…

Posted July 8, 2013 11:40 am

@ Hidalgo who should Floyd have fought a rematch with besides Castillo . Most of his fights are won by a wide enough margin that the rematch would not sell.

Posted July 8, 2013 10:47 am

Canelo has two chances, slim and none. Alvarez does not have great stamina. Alvarez, by nature, is a counter puncher. Alvarez’ defense, while improved, isn’t on the level that would trouble Mayweather getting shots in.

Alvarez could decide to get off first putting him in a position to gas late. Alvarez could hope to counter, but I doubt he could keep Mayweather from landing while staying in position to punch. Alvarez’ only shot is a big shot.

Posted July 8, 2013 10:21 am

The author advises Canelo to counter Floyd’s lead right. It’s really hard to counter a punch that you can’t see.

Posted July 8, 2013 9:23 am

” The best shot Canelo has is keeping it close and letting the judges do the dirty work, much like BH JT 1.” that is the only way I see Canelo win this fight. This article is absolutely rubbish.

Agree, Mayweather is a defensive fighter, he doesn’t take many chances. Canelo has been changing styles too often, and I will be hard for Mayweather to figure him out. It will be a hard night for Mayweather. This fight is based on the perception that Mayweather has a lot more experience than Canelo, and that Canelo is immature, which is not totally true.

Posted July 8, 2013 2:20 am

Why do some of you have to hate on my writing? The left hook is there if Canelo can get Flody to throw that right lead at the moment Canelo wants him to. Of course, if I were Canelo I’d also lead quite a bit too. You gotta out work Floyd to win rounds but Canel has to be careful not to wear himself out.

Posted July 8, 2013 2:15 am

Floyd is a boring fighter, Canelo need to do the same but with force!

Posted July 8, 2013 1:59 am

Reason why none of yall suggestions on how to be floyd wont work? Simple. Cause he is so vetsitale and makes adjustments on the fly. He will figure out before u figure him out. Add that w skills, speed, boxing iq, experience. He is damn near unbeatable unless u hit him w a sunday punch. But its possible, mosley almost did it. Zab, cotto, all had their moments. But almost doesnt count. Canelo is the teuth n will give floyd a hell of a fight. Even better than pac would. But floyd will figure out a way to win like always. Floyd my majority decision. Canelo will come close but will come up a lil short. No one else has a chance to beat floyd. Unless GGG comes down to 154. But i gaurantee u floyd isnt dumb enough to fight him!

So far Floyd, is losing the first stage of the confrontation. First His intimidation tactics have not worked on Canelo. Second As far as looks, Canelo is also ahead, Third, Fan support is in favor of Canelo. All Canelo has to do now is knock this Obuma supporter on his butt, and make him quit, and retire.

Posted July 7, 2013 11:27 pm

To beat FM it’s going to take equal or greater speed. Nobody ever mentions the speed factor. Zab Judah had equal or greater speed and looked a lot better than FM did for four rounds. Also power, enough power to make FM think twice before letting loose. If a guy processes both power and speed you can begin to befuddle FM. That is what makes the Pac/FM fight so interesting. Pac has the tools to keep FM honest. If you don’t have the speed your chances of beating FM are very slim.

That said, Canelo will have his moments and he will make FM uncomfortable a few times, but in the end, FM will come out on top. He maybe aging, but he’s not ancient. The best shot Canelo has is keeping it close and letting the judges do the dirty work, much like BH JT 1.

Canelo will look good for the first few rounds until FM figures his timing out and then the clinic will begin. At the end of the night, FM will be accused of cherry-picking a younger, inexperienced fighter.

i’ve yet to see Mayweather get actually “mad”. in those situations his focus and ferocity simply increases. Btw, Floyd didn’t hesitate to test the boundaries by DROPPING a careless Ortiz in less than gentlemanly but purely professional fashion. it was cold but effective. THAT’s what Mayweather usually becomes in those “angry” situations. besides, Floyd isn’t unbeatable he’s just the very best in the fight-game but if he’s slipping in any category, Canelo can win fair-and-square.

Posted July 7, 2013 7:04 pm

You cant hit what you cant see. Alvarez is a quality fighter but fights at such a slow pace due to either stamina issues or making the 154 pound limit. He couldnt get down to 150 for the hatton fight and he was terrible in that fight. Making 152 will be a struggle and the only way he can beat floyd is to throw 1000 punches at any target arms, head, shoulder. He will not have the fitness to do this and floyd wouldnt off picked the fight if he was scared of losing. Dont be surprised at three 120-108 scores.

Posted July 7, 2013 6:50 pm

The blueprint to beating Floyd is to be a combination of all the guys he allegedly avoided, tall, rangey, iron chinned non stop left handed punching machine, if he existed he would be no 1 p4p not Floyd

Of course it makes a difference.. Try dehydrating yourself and tell us how you feel. Besides if it didn’t make a difference then you have to ask yourself why elite fighters like Manny and Floyd insist on including this clause in their contract.. Hmm… Do the math, if Canelo’s prefight weight was 153.5 and he rehydrated to 172 and a gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs. How much more water does Canelo have to squeeze out of his body? Some fighters come in a half of a pound over and don’t even bother trying to sweat that off and get fined 100’s of thousands of $’s.. I guess because it doesn’t make a difference…

oh my god. What do you have to do to write articles here? Feel like it? That guy did obviously never fight. I mean: “He has to time him with the hook when Floyd throws the lead right hand. He has to use master footwork in order to be close to Floyd when he (Canelo) wants to punch, and far away when Floyd wants to punch. Its a science.” Yes it is. If you want to counter somebody it’s a good idea to not be far away if the other guy wants to punch. Otherwise theres not mutch countering. Oh well. “but you are still only going 12 rounds.” I don’t even start commenting on that. “I’d focus on cardio conditioning and doing a lot of body weight exercises to be strong on the inside and hopefully muscle Floyd around or at the very least, not get pushed around.” You DO recognize that canelo will have close to 20 pounds over Mayweather? Tip for the future: read your articles after you’ve written them and see if they make sense. People tend to look for sense in their articles nowadays.

Posted July 7, 2013 4:36 pm

It looks like the guy that wrote this article is ready himself to fight Floyd.

Posted July 7, 2013 2:11 pm

Done deal

First off to bet against Floyd is not a smart idea regardless of confident you are in his opponent. Good artical, but the writer is basically saying that Canelo can’t fight like Canelo and win. Fighters can just change what they have been doing for there careers in one night. Ask Ricky Hatton. Canelo is also not a bulky type aggressive fighter so his weight really won’t be much of a factor outside of the ability to Osborn punches better. Another thing is Canelo will have a difficult night if he plans on letting Gloyd get of first and waiting on him. He will definitely lose if he does that.

Posted July 7, 2013 12:36 pm

@ Shadow brawler

Canelo is 22…do you really think a pound and a half will make a difference? Canelo weighed 153 1/2 for the official weigh in versus Trout.

Also, I’ll say this again…Canelo can box or brawl!

I can’t believe this author advocates Canelo using blatant cheating — low blows and elbows, shots to the back of the head — to help him win this fight. Why not add obvious head-butting tactics like Ortiz? How classless and unsportsmanlike can you be?

Posted July 7, 2013 11:50 am

Shadow Brawler

The only advantage Canelo has is power and Mayweather took that and whatever speed and stamina everyone thinks that Canelo has by having Canelo dehydrate an additional quart of water. Any blue prints against Mayweather means overcoming the sweet science of boxing and the hope that Mayweather has gotten tired of winning. It’s going to be a very good fight and I’m not a huge fan of either but I’m sure I will have overpaid for the results.

Posted July 7, 2013 11:44 am

It’ll be interesting to see how Canelo’s chin holds up. We’ve seen him staggered by Cintron. While Floyd isn’t a power puncher like Cintron, his timing and stinging shots do have an effect, and Canelo will likely employ a I’m-willing-to-eat-some-shots-to land-some-shots-approach.

Posted July 7, 2013 11:43 am

Thank you for clarifying that Rapid. My point remains…Mayweather has yet to face a true middlweight. Cotto, Mosley, and De la hoya ended or are ending their careers at welterweight/junior middleweight…the same weight classes that Canelo has been boxing in since day one!

Posted July 7, 2013 11:40 am

If the fight is fought at a distance and be ones a chess Match, Mayweather will win by a land slide. If it becomes physical, Canelo will have a great chance to win… However, Mayweather will do everything he can to keep the fight at his pace, which more than likely means he’ll win it by UD to SD.

Posted July 7, 2013 11:21 am

Anonomys…. Mayweather fought Mosley at 147. But I agree he hasn’t looked impressive at 54.

Posted July 7, 2013 11:19 am

I agree Mayweather is no JMW. So what does it mean if he beats Alvarez? Does it mean that Alvarez wasn’t ready, or does it mean that little Mayweather is good enough to beat good fighters outside of weight classes he should be fighting in?

Posted July 7, 2013 11:17 am

Fighting Words

For Canelo to avoid Mayweather punches will not be much of a effort being that Mayweather don’t throw that many. If there politics is not envolved as to regarding Canelo weight on the day of weight. The weight issue will be in the back of Mayweather mind knowing that it could get knock out, especial if Canelo hit him with a couple hard punches. Believe it or not, Mayweather isn’t a good as people think he is. I can see Canelo winning this fight with off and on inside fighting to make it interesting, then the PPV for the rematch will go through the roof with possible 2 to 3 million buys. These 2 fights will be similar to the Duran and Leanard 2 fights. Only the money being difference

Posted July 7, 2013 11:13 am

Allow me to provide everyone with a brief education…Has anyone considered this? What has Mayweather done at 154 that has everyone convinced he will beat Canelo? He barely beat an old De la hoya, an old Mosley, and a very basic Cotto. All mentioned fighters not having near the punching power and strength that Canelo posses. Catchweight won’t save floyd. He’s up against a true career middleweight! Not to mention that this middleweight has very underrated boxing skills and IQ…Canelo is not out to prove that he could beat Floyd…He is focused on establishing his legacy and a victory over Floyd is step one.

Posted July 7, 2013 11:11 am

Has Floyd ever muscled anyone around? Does this writer know anything about the fighters?

Posted July 7, 2013 11:06 am

“But if canelo can make it a dog fight for 12 rds without getting tired he just may be able to pull it off! Or at least make it very interesting!” Then Canelo will have to be very effective with minimum energy output. Alvarez expended an awful lot of energy evading Trout. That type of strategy will cost him dearly against Mayweather.

Posted July 7, 2013 10:52 am

If Canelo is lucky enough to win this fight, he should pull a Floyd and not give Mayweather a rematch. Floyd hasn’t fought anyone in a rematch since he fought Castillo. Of course that probably won’t be possible. More than likely Floyd has a rematch clause in the contract. Still, I’d like to see Floyd get a taste of his own medicine.

Posted July 7, 2013 10:49 am

CurlyQ- Agree, trying to rough up May is a losing tactic most days of the week. Just ask Zab Judah and Victor Ortiz. Not only is that not Canelo’s style, but Floyd has proven he will beat you at that game too.

Posted July 7, 2013 10:13 am

Fighting Words

Mayweather is actually a JWW, and Canelo have made his career out of beating JWW. A good solid busy fighter will give Mayweather problems any day of the week. If Canelo plan envolves cutting the ring off and throwing those combos that he knows how to do well every time Mayweather set to throw a punch he will win by UD. Mayweather is going to move no doubt about it, but when Mayweather stop and try to pot shot Canelo should fire off combos and try to force Mayweather in a dog fight. If Canelo work behind double jab followed by combos the fight will be easy for him. Mayweather don’t have it any more, for the past few years he have been fighting worn fighters that don’t have it anymore. He has held a belt in WW for several years and he has never been order to fight his Mandatory. He just won the belt from Cotto and he is still not fighting his Mandatory. The good thing about the IBF belt, they force you to fight your mandatory or be stripped. Mayweather will never hold the IBF belt and I don’t think he ever has.

Posted July 7, 2013 9:29 am

Jonn E. JaGozza

The best stategy for Canelo would be for him NOT to show up. Mayweather is in a different class, a class all to himself… I think Mayweather will toy with him and make him frustrated, it will go the distance but again, Mayweather will have no problems. Canelo is powerful and dangerous but he’s NOT slick or cunning, He’s easily hit and likes to trade but again, nothing out of the ordinary, but again to give him credit he’s very dangerous and powerful, A fight in the future with him and Marquez or Mosely or even better at a catch weight with Maidana, Gurrera maybe
I just dont see Mayweather getting beat by this guy… PEACE

Posted July 7, 2013 8:34 am

If this, “If I was Canelo Alvarez I would do things to really anger Floyd Mayweather. It wouldn’t be outside of my ethical boundaries to throw elbows, low punches or even shots to the back of the head. Canelo Alvarez should make things ugly. Make it a street fight.” is what it will take for Alvarez to win the fight, then Andrew Hall is saying that Alvarez really isn’t ready (and may never possess the skills necessary) to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. at least until Floyd has grown old and lost his fighting skills. And you know what? I agree. Alvarez may be the number one contender, but he is not yet ready to box with Floyd Jr. As for the street fight tactics, that’s a losing strategy against Floyd Jr., and it will really make Alvarez look bad.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

My analysis of this up-coming Super Fight is as follows: Floyd has the advantages of speed, movement, elusiveness and superior defensive skills and experience.

Canelo has the advantages of punching power, strength, muscular mass, weight and youthful vigor.

That being said, many are underestimating Canelo’s power, speed, movement, defensive skills and overall talent. He is NOT the flat-footed plodder than many are making him out to be.

If Canelo is able to land the same type of shots on FMJ that Cotto did, Floyd will take a seat on the canvas at least once. And those would likely be 10-8 rounds. So my best prediction is that this will be an extremely closely contested fight, that will come down to the scoring.

And Vegas is FMJ’s hometown, home country and he has a lot of political influence there. If Canelo is not able to stop FMJ with his power shot, then Floyd will get the decision. It may even be a very controversial decision that will warrant another BIG MONEY re-match.

Real Talk.

His strategy has to be to WIN a pot shotting CLINIC. Stay away from TOO many combos just as I advised to Rigo vs. Donaire. Sneak your combos in here and there but keep them to a minimum. Land the BETTER punches and you WIN. Easier SAID than DONE though .
