Murray should get this fight, before anyone else at this time.Plus Murray is a big full sized MW. Unlike Macklin who spent time as a junior mwt. I think GGG wins this but a decent fair match-up overall.

I think that hitler died in Argentina back around the early 60’s really. I no longer believe his remains were there in Berlin.

Damn! I write a post and as a result I’m being compared with Hitler. At least I’m not as evil as him. He’s first and I’m second! YAYYY!! Sorry if you don’t like real history.

Laughable comments, Murray beat Maritinez? hahaha..tobeat a champ you need to do more than try to counter him all night, you have to let your hands go, attack, pursuit and domminate the champ, which this guy did nott do by any stretch of the imagination. Yea, he scored a KD, maybe even two, but then again he lost the first five and the last 3 rounds. against a 38 yr old guy with a broken hand. I like to see him against GGG, bit I am afrai he will not go past rd 6

Murray is better than Macklin. At least what I saw against Martinez.

von Pugsly

Actually, Golovkin did fight someone like Murray. His name was Matthew Macklin. We saw what happened there. I don’t expect it would be much different with Murray. Though he might last a round or two longer than Mack the Knife.

murray should be 27 and 0 with wbc and wba belts

I say bring the fight on! GGG will most likely wipe the floor with Murray.

Britain is Dead

Britain is just an empty shell of the former Evil Empire. We would get our asses destroyed by Turkey without the help of our great American masters. The grandsons of our American masters who saved us from certain death at the hands of Germany in WWI and WWII

But we show no gratitude at all and insult those Americans constantly, like a petulant child with no absolutely no recollection of history

There’s nothing Great about Britain

GGG doing a little cherry picking???

Posted July 5, 2013 2:28 pm

I see Murray as 27-0 if he had excellent impartial judges for his Martinez and Sturm fights… But he still didn’t get enoungh separation in those fights in get a win in foreign countries — or to be any kind of a threat to Golovkin.

If you’re going to Germany or Argentina you need to make a statement.

Posted July 5, 2013 1:58 pm

If Murray steps up good for him to face Golovkin.

Posted July 5, 2013 1:30 pm

What Murray doesn’t have is the power(25-1-1, 11KO’s) to discourage GGG.

Posted July 5, 2013 1:02 pm

TARK well said.

I really would be Golovkin feeling out the first round seeing What Murray could bring then opening up with few shots.

By the second round Golovkin would have pinned Murry in a corner cutting off the ring and beating him hard in a corner.

Say by the fifth round if Murry could last that long his face would be cut in multiple places and he would be out of breath from body shots.

GGG would Steam Role through Murray. And Murry said after the Macklin fight on twitter that no one is beating Golovkin at 160.

Posted July 5, 2013 12:08 pm

Well Murray is the #1 contender and so he has established the right to be the next one to make a lot of money by getting beat up.

Posted July 5, 2013 11:17 am

Mr Gav

Just wondering if this article was a history lesson or race debate? And who is ggg and Murray? Lol

The foreigners are taking over in Western Europe in general. Muslims are doing much better there than from where they came.

Posted July 5, 2013 10:38 am

And Macklin said the same thing, Golovkin hasn’t fought anyone like me.

I can see Martin Murray lasting five rounds though.

If the fight can happen Nov 2 at MSG.

As it turned out the two countries became loyal allies who stck together to defeat the greedy conquerors of the two world wars and the cold war thereafter. The axis powers who lost were looking to take over the world. The victors got not much of anything from winning. Nonetheless it would have turned out to be a much grimmer world had they not won. Still to the present time the British are our friendly allies.

Posted July 5, 2013 9:50 am

The war of 1812? The British had their hands full fighting Napoleon and his empire so the Americans thought it a good opportunity to grab Canada. True too that during the revolutionary war the Brits were also fighting France, Spain, and the Netherlands. The USA went on to bully Mexico and take half of their territory. The USA tries to be the world policeman and take care of the rest of the world today and at the same time introduce socialized medicine with obamacare. The British did it but pulling back from all of it’s world wide responsibility expenses.

Posted July 5, 2013 9:32 am

Also @The Truth – take a look at how many Pro Boxers there are in Britain, then take a look at how many Pro Boxers there are in the USA, then try telling me Britain doesnt do well in Elite Fighting Competitions..PS; MMA is not big in Britain, but Boxing, Judo, Karate, Tai Kwon Do etc, Britain punches above its weight.

Hands of stone

What a moron you are The Truth. Clearly don’t know much about anything.

Brief history – the empire went on long after your independance, was the biggest the world had ever seen (land mass wise) and all from a tiny country. Of course America’s more powerful now – this happens due to good (historically) economies. Hence why the Soviet Union got weaker and weaker in comparison. I’m part irish and I’m not even going to acknowledge the comment about that…

Consdering how small we are and how rare boxing gyms are in england, we’ve done pretty well. Plus it’s way down the pecking order in sports unfortunately…

So are you retarded about everything or just history and general knowledge?

If you know anything about boxing maybe talk about that on a boxing site.

I would be pleasantly surprised if you did…

Posted July 5, 2013 9:24 am

THE TRUTH? Really? Dont seem to remember the USA winning the War of 1812 against Britain (in fact they got their asses kicked out of Canada and Washington got burned), nor kicking the British out of their Empire (which was dissolved PEACEFULLY between 1947 and 1997), nor being any kind of World Power until AFTER Pearl Harbour in 1941.
The War of Independence? Won by the FRENCH my friend!
British People? A peaceful mix of English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Danes, Normans, Cornish and Manxmen, all overlaying an older non Indo-European Caucasoid race which built Stonehenge and New Grange etc. THE TRUTH! lol

if GGG gets past murray convincingly ,you cant do anything except give this man his just do and start really ranking him up there with the top names cause im not sold just yet and murray is a rottwilder off the leash who in my opinion beat martinez….yezzir!

We are a small Island full of wanna be tough guys with bad teeth and poor hygiene, who can rarely compete in elite professional fighting competitions. We have gotten our asses kicked by the peoples of the Americas for decades in both boxing and MMA, but still thing we’re bad-ass.

Our empire was destroyed by the USA and a tiny Island called Ireland, but we still talk like we’re kings of the world. We are still the most powerful military in the world today! (Even though we are now just lap dogs for the U.S. military and do exactly as they tell us to do.)

Rule Britardia!!!

would love this fight to go down, want to see GGG succeed to the top, he wont KO murray though, 12 UD

Posted July 5, 2013 7:23 am

This was a fight I’d said would be great for Golovkin after Macklin if he couldn’t get Geale in the ring (though the Geale fight is a possibility based on recent comments by Geale). Let’s not forget that though Geale beat Sturm for the title, in reality, Murray did it first (and possibly more clearly than Geale did) but got robbed (and Macklin did it before that too!)

But the main point in this fight is that if Golovkin is able to destroy another guy that Martinez struggled with, or even just beat him definitively (i.e. nobody has done this to Murray yet), then it goes a long way to holding Martinez to his word (i.e. for a fight next September).

It’s great that HBO picked up and showcased Golovkin. He’s worth a bit of money now, so the “there’s no money in it” excuse that fighters were using before to avoid him has now dissipated and the challengers are lining up. Let’s see if Golovkin can continue to carry that amateur success into the professional ranks (I’m betting he can).

Posted July 5, 2013 6:54 am

Wouldn’t recommend this for Murray! He keeps a high guard but generally has a low punch output and doesn’t move his head or feet all that much. I reckon he’d be tailor-made for Golovkin who starts hard and fast. Murray might think he could drag GGG into the later rounds but he’d do well to get that far with his style. You’ve got to give GGG something to think about and Murray isn’t the man for the job. I would predict target-practice for GGG and a mid rounds TKO!!

“GGG/Quillen sounds good, some ones 0 would have to go.” that’ll work, too.

The Celts are the original inhabitants of the British Isles. That has been proven by leading Archeologists and genetic scientists. The Saxon and Norman invasions came much later, and they eventually pushed the Celts Westward into Wales, Cornwall and Ireland, and Western England. Facts.

Posted July 5, 2013 4:36 am

Depended on where you stay in England you might have German ancestors of Saxon or Angle tribe, hence Anglo Saxon, we Scots have always been Scots, we’ve never been conquered and are still the original inhabitants of the UK that hasnt ever really changed since time began, so youll can appreciate my back getting up when im called intermingled my good sir.

thats what I was thinking, Germany is where the money is in Europe and Murray has a good name there,AG how do mate, I am Southern Scottish, I have Murray’s in my family, your right man wee all in it together but we still are proud of our origins, that twat was trying to say were mixed race or something, intermingled, theres better way’s to put things.

KOnerman: Agreed there maybe more ca$h in the USA then the UK, so how about Germany? They appear to have the best economy in Europe & Golovkin lives there. I still think GGG/Quillen sounds good, some ones 0 would have to go.

Konerman: Agreed-Italian, puerto Rican, Mexican, English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, German, Cherokee, Apache, Comanche, Cheyenne, Sioux ETC the list goes on regarding American breeding. Anyway back to the Boxing. GGG/Quillen would make a good contest.

SC so thats where the Irish surname comes from, and the ability to fight lol

Posted July 5, 2013 3:45 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Yeah… and Andre Ward is half Irish although doesn’t like to openly admit it to his brothas. Most fighters are mixed-race these days.

Yesterday was the 4th of July (Independence Day). It’s the biggest party of the year when ALL Americans of all different races and ethnicities commemorate and celebrate our DEFEAT over the the evil British Empire. There are major fireworks, Bar-B-Ques, and parties going on all over our country, in every big city and small town.

If you’re feeling big and strong, just come to the states next year for the 4th with a gang of your hardest boys and flaunt that Union Jack. You will be lucky to make it back to the UK alive. And if you have the courage to go to places like South Boston, you will get jaw-tapped, clickety-clacked and dirt napped. Real talk.

“Golovkin hasn’t fought anyone like me.” Macklin was saying the same and we saw what happened.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Mongrel: Just look at the guy. He looks just like a typical Mick from Liverpool, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Boston, New York or Chicago.

And the fact that he’s from a town just a stone’s throw away from Liverpool says a lot combined with his appearance. The West Cost of England, Cornwall and Wales is full of Celtic peoples.

Martin may never admit it due to political/professional reasons, but he is a Celt — just look at him. He may be a proddy dog, but definitely comes from a predominately Irish/Scottish background. Froch and Hatton are examples of what Anglo-Saxon Brits look like.

Posted July 5, 2013 2:29 am

Though to be fair just because your surname is of a particular lineage doesn`t necessarily make you predominantly of that culture – it is just the paternal name.

You could have a Scottish grandfather and English Grandmother, they have a son who marries an Englishwoman and they have a kid.\

That kid would be 3/4 English with a Scottish name. It wouldn`t be fair to call them Scottish.

I know I have a Scottish great grandfather, and a Welsh great Grandmother, and whilst they are both proud nations, and I have a ton of respect for the history of both, the fact is I am English (even though I don`t live there any more).
If I had a great boxing career and someone tried to attribute it to the 1/16th Scottish part of me I`d wonder why the 100% SCottish aren`t ruling the world.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Didn’t say that Murray is from Scotland or Ireland; I specifically said is from England, Please work on improving your reading comprehension.

Macklin and Fury are both from Birmingham England, but are both Irish by ethnicity. Every white person I’ve ever met with the surname Murray is of Irish/Scottish (Celtic) heritage.

Bill Murray – Actor/Comedian
Andy Murray – Pro tennis player
Colin Murray – British sports radio and television presenter
Ann Murray – Mezzo-soprano opera singer
Eoin Murray – Pro race-car driver

Celts and Anglo-Saxons are two different ethnicities and you know it. They fought bloody wars over those cultural differences for hundreds of years. And now some of you white Englishmen want to try to sweep in under the rug like it never happened. What a joke… LOL.

Posted July 5, 2013 1:07 am

Well I must the person who perfected that defense in his prime was Winky Wright. Nobody could penetrate that defense.

Posted July 5, 2013 12:57 am

@ Mongrel
GGG sets up his shots so well, against Macklin those two little uppercuts he threw before the liver shot were not meant to do any damage they were only there for him to close his guard up high then BANG!!. SM relies on his movement and speed but GGG is not slow and cuts off the ring and hunts better than any current fighter (my opinion only). I think someone earlier mention the Tszyu Judah fight, And I would have to agree it would be similar, Maravilla would attempt to move and pot shot but get caught either coming in or moving around to his left or right.

Posted July 5, 2013 12:57 am

@nathan, yep for sure he can`t stand in front of GGG with a static defence or GGG will go around the corner like he did with Macklin.

I just think this author is being deliberately simplistic to downplay a British fighter (again).

Noone can cover all eventualities with simply covering up – if you have your hands right in front you block straight punches but limit you own vision, and are susceptible to wider hooks. If you have the earmuffs on you can catch wider punches but might take more down the middle.
Do the Ken Norton Crab style and you might cover straights/hooks but you won`t cover the uppercut etc etc.

That`s why I think mixing combinations up is important, move the defence around, create gaps. Golovkin did that nicely vs Macklin. Hatton was a good example vs Castillo too – he touched the gloves up top softly to set up the real shot downstairs.

Even Khan who isn`t a noted body puncher actually finsihes some of his flashy headhunting combos with a nice left hook to the body. It nearly did Maidana in one round, and landed regularly on Paulie.

Posted July 5, 2013 12:16 am

Mongrel. His defense against jabs to the body wont work with the big hooks to the body that GGG throws and if he does drop his hands he’ll cop an uppercut or overhand from the other side or a double up from the same side. Murry is tough and was very impressive against Maravilla but I think GGG will finish him quickly.
Woop Woop… Sturm (Former WBA) , Geale (Current IBF) and Sylvester (Former IBF) all ran from him. They all did this while holding the belt. (Geale was a bit unlucky as he had already planned to fight Mundine in a rematch and was stripped of the belt before the WBA even sent it to him)

Posted July 4, 2013 11:51 pm

And Murray never have faced a fighter like GGG. fortunetly for Murray.

Posted July 4, 2013 11:26 pm

Murray is from St. Helens, England, not Scotland or Ireland…

Posted July 4, 2013 11:20 pm

Martinez tried throwing a ton of jabs to the body vs Murray to bring his hands down, and Murray just caught them on elbows and countered.

He won that fight and should be linear middleweight champion.

Golovkin beats him all day long, but articles like this are just disrespectful trolling.

I would like to see him face Murray. That would be a good fight, he got jobbed against Martinez. He should be the middleweight champ right now. GGG did call out Martinez but Martinez said he would not be back till April or something like that and he will not fight GGG first, he will take an interim fight. That is what Murray was supposed to be till it backfired.

Posted July 4, 2013 9:54 pm

Woop Woop

Why didn’t GGG respond to Martinez? Why is GGG trying to tie up this fight while other champs have defences? It’s all obvious, he keeps running from the other champs who won their belts in the ring. Send out proposals for contract negotiations to Martinez, Geale, Quillin, even Pirog. Let it be known world wide through social media and shame one of them into a match up. Nope, he won’t, he is running and is happy making money off the gullible band wagon riders and beating small, ring rusty guys in devastating fashion to increase the hype.
