If Pacquiao cannot get rid of Rios, it’s gonna be ominous Rios is super tough but he’s only had 2 bouts above 140 so that said Pacquiao should be able to break the very hittable Rios down and either stop him or beat him brutally for 12 rounds…!

Manny Pacquiao is a GREAT fighter he had one of the most terrific runs in boxing history but obviously he is at a crossroads where he is either gonna regain his stride or be remembered fondly for his exploits climbing the scales… He has to beat Rios and look dominant doing it then the natural next step is the winner of the Bradley/Marquez bout and trust me if JMM fights again after Bradley the 15 mill he will pocket for taking shots at Pac Mans dome again will be too much for him to ignore 2X…. This is as much about Pacquiaos committment to boxing at this point as it is about his skills ect… He needs that hunger to channel his inner BEAST again… This is gonna be interesting!

i maintain that Pacquiao* is a very good fighter but he has only looked “great” v. good and/or compromised and/or inferior fighters. Hell(?!) even his rematch v. Barrera was a snorefest. primarily due to Pacquiao’s* glaring inability to outthink a superior boxer and Barrera is only an above-average boxer. conditions not in favor of Manny* have sabotaged eagerly-anticipated showdowns and rematches NEVER the other way around. he would only agree to face Marquez at 4-year intervals. anybody not swooning under Pacquiao’s* celebrity spell can figure out the logic behind that. Provodnikov looked much better v. Bradley than Pacquiao*. we can only imagine how much sooner Marquez the boxer could’ve finished the job if he had shifted to powerpunching mode sooner. that’s not to say that he hadn’t already taken Manny* to boxing school several times already but to no avail v. the Arum-approved judging panels. Pacquiao’s* refusal to face his primary P4P rival because of a harmless testing requirement was the final straw for me. IMO, he was obviously avoiding Mayweather and for good reasonS, which should be abundantly clear to every fight-fan by now. or at least, every fight-fan no less savvy about the Sport of Boxing than Arum. it was a huuuuge mismatch, which is why not even $50 million was enough to convince Pacquiao* to step up. Arum is a factor but unless Manny* is a juvenile-imbecile in a stage of arrested development, he understood the logic and Agreed to avoid any situation that threatened his ring-celebrity $tatu$. good for him but Bad for the sport, which is All i care about. only Marquez’s willingness to make a variety of concessions and sacrifices resulted in their final three bouts under conditions that presumably favored Pacquiao* but that rivalry is OVER. Marquez is Greater and he Proved It. Viva Marquez.

Tomato Can, you might be making more than it really is about the fight being staged in China. You have to understand that To get knocked out cold the way Pac was, it’s a life-changing & depressing experience of the first order for anybody so maybe all this means is Pac & Bob just want a different environment away from the USA for now…low taxes could be just an excuse to cover the real reason, who knows; My guess is if Pac looks good against Rios, it’s gonna be business as usual in the old US of A…this venture to China doesn’t have much chance to be sustainable in a regular basis…no way. To make that work, the infrastructure changes for Top Rank & boxing in general would have to be monumental; I don’t see that happening .

Speaking more on this fight being held in China. I have nothing against the Chinese people, however my countries current sitution has me dead set against this fight being in China. Boxing has always been a blue collar sport, with many blue collar fans. Many American blue collar workers have lost jobs due to American Corporations shipping their work over seas, many in China. And now with Bob Arum’s statement of Manny has to pay too much in taxes in America, it looks as though Bob Arum doesn’t have a problem with shipping boxing off shore….. That’s my opinion on it, and I’m sure many will disagree, but for now, that’s how I feel. I don’t think I’ll ever purchase another Top Rank event, because it.

Your point is fine, but it doesn’t acknowledge the under lying factors.

Posted June 13, 2013 11:06 pm

My point is, you don’t remember the promoters, where the fight was, you remember the fight.

This is the wrong time for a fight in China. I would have commended a fight in the Phillipines, and just about any other country. The Bob Father knows where’s he’s going to get his money though, you have to give him credit for that.

Posted June 13, 2013 10:59 pm

Without going into anything else, Ali v Foreman was in Africa, Ali v Frasier in the Phillipines, nothing new, great fights.

I’m not happy about Manny’s next fight being in China though. And I think Arum is a sellout for putting on the fight there. He’s officially became the walmart of boxing in my opinion. Too much taxes in America? But I guess it’s okay that he promote his next fight in the land of sweat shops and inhumane conditions… Now I wish I never gave that ahole a dime…

Te Tumbo you know I’m nothing like Pac fans. I’ve just always thought he was a beast. I like Pac and I know about all the issues. He did go on a great run though. There is really not a fighter out there that you can’t somehow break there record down and make it look decent, good or bad. Do I think he is on Floyd’s level, heck no. But I still think he is a great fighter

Posted June 13, 2013 10:33 pm

Who cares about the promoters, it’s the fighters, cash cow, set up , blah blah, load of rubbish, there was promoters in boxing 100 years ago, or 50 years ago,, 30 years ago, I remember the fights though.

Posted June 13, 2013 10:30 pm

Tomato Can

Where have you been? Cause you couldn’t be a true boxing fan if you think Arum isn’t a factor in a lot of things concerning Pacquiao. But don’t worry, Arum is setting up the cash out now, wait and see.

Posted June 13, 2013 10:26 pm

Leonard v Hearns, Hagler v Hearns, Duran v Leonard, who were the promoters, what happened in negotiations in the lead up to the fight, couldn’t careless, it’s the fight you remember.

Posted June 13, 2013 10:12 pm

I remember that Arum calls the shots. and all the lies that Arum told over the years. Manny’s a good guy for the most part. But I won’t ignore the Arum factor.

Posted June 13, 2013 10:08 pm

Manny Pacquiao is the Boxer, he lets Bob Arum the promoter do the rest, who he fights Pacquiao fights them, so all this he only fights top rank fighters is rubbish, Pacquiao just gets on with it, and they are top fighters who he fights, and if he loses, so what, it’s no big deal, you got to remember the fights, who he has fought and how he has fought them, not it was Bob Arum fighter, who remembers that bull sht.

I thought that, they annouced the fight and it is not until November, usually it’s alot quicker than that, but to say it is about juicing etc is dumb, Pacquiao did get knocked out cold, so that could be something to do with it, recovery, be safe, or to set the fight up in China, I don’t know.

Posted June 13, 2013 9:40 pm

Tomato Can

Pacquiao is an ATG. But he’s not as great as some of his fans wish he was. I’m still scratching my head as to how Manny came up with the gull to demand random drug testing in for his fight in China with Rios… As a fan what am I supposed to say to that? Am I supposed to say, Manny finally came around, and I’m sure the testing will be on the up and up, with both fighters treated and tested fairly and squarely?……. On another note, Manny supposedly took on all comers and ducked no one? Is that why everyone he’s faced has been a Top Rank Fighter, or has been forced to sign with Top Rank, so Arum could be guaranteed options on them? …… Hey Manny’s a great fighter, and anyone can get knocked out in boxing, but does anyone know why he’s taking a year off between fights? Is it for his health or something else? Is he. allegedly, back to his old PED popping ways, which means he needs to cycle off as the fight draws near?… I hope for the sake of some of these obsessed fans, Manny never gets caught as a PED user. Things are bad enough for them now that they know Manny has the smell of the MGM canvas imprinted in olfactory nerves, forever….

Pacquiao v Marquez 1 was a great fight, if there was the 3 knockdown rule, it would of been over in the 1st round, and may of stopped this great series of fights, you get a trilogy between the great fighters, it could be five now between these two.

Btw, if you also believe that Pacquiao* insisted on a purse-split in his favor for a 5th matchup v. Marquez because he Reeeeeeally wanted to redeem his KO loss in IV, you stand alone among all fans of Boxing.

PEEJ, if You believe that Pacquiao* fought Morales because he felt he was a tougher opponent than Marquez; or that he targed Diaz because he felt he was the best lightweight; or that he demanded catchweights to enhance the competitiveness of his bouts; or that he refused harmless, random, and mutually-applied testing because he truly believed it was insulting and unnecessary; then you are precisely like “most [Pacquiao*] fans”.

Pacquiao v Marquez 4 was a great fight.

I got my ESPN magazine-THE MONEY ISSUE-dated june24, 2013, yesterday. I was surprised by the list of top-paid athletes worldwide on page 63 where they show #1-Manny Pacquiao with 52 million & #6-Floyd May with 32 million…it reads:”Even as he suffered the most devastating loss of his career, Pacquiao held on to his crown as the top-paid athlete worldwide. Our survey was based on salaries/prize monies & signing bonuses from the most recently completed season or calendar year in each sport. Figures exclude endorsement appearance fees & sponsorships. For a slideshow of the 20 highest-paid athletes go to” interesting…

Posted June 13, 2013 8:52 pm

Marquez and Pacquiao, they both fought the 4th fight to see who was the best between them, who got more money has nothing to do with it, Pacquiao got $30 million Marquez got $3 million, probably should of got at least $8 million but that is the money side of Boxing, anyway Pacquiao took the fight because he also wanted to fight everyone, including every style, like I said, anyone can get knocked out, Marquez could of been knocked out in that fight.

Posted June 13, 2013 8:48 pm

If most fans remember Pac not ducking anybody then they don’t know boxing very well. And before the 4th Marquez fight Pacs number was dropping. Problem people liking Pacs exciting style is that nobody will care about him and his health when he is done boxing. Lol

“most fans” is correct. EVERY knowledgeable fight-fan Knows that Pacquiao* avoided the red-hot rematch v. Marquez; avoided the top lightweights before moving to welter; catchweight-compromised cherrypicked opponents for bogus welter and jr. middle “titles”; and ALmost priced himself out of the 4th matchup v. Marquez by only offering him $3 million to his own $30 million but he underestimated Marquez’s determination to accomplish his mission to answer all the questions and remove all doubts about who is the greater fighter. Manny* was only ahead by a single round going into the fateful 6th when he was FLATTENED by a Marquez right that he was landing or attempting to land all fight long. it was the foundation of Marquez’s entire fight-plan not “luck”. Pacquiao* has once again priced himself out of a 5th matchup by haggling over purse parity and other conditions, which is a right that he didN’T earn. after all, it was Pacquiao* planted face-first and butts-up into the ring canvas by Marquez not the other way around. that’s what knowledgeable fight-fans Know about Pacquiao*.

Posted June 13, 2013 8:28 pm

Mayweather was seriously wobbled against Mosely, Mayweather did very well to get over that punch, if it was Pacquiao landing it he would of followed up, anyone can lose via a knockout.

Posted June 13, 2013 8:24 pm

Most fans remember Pacquiao not ducking anyone, taking the 4th fight against Marquez and winning it until he was knocked out, taking the fight to Marquez who due to his style and Pacquiao’s style was a difficult fight for Pacquiao, and he is still fighting and will draw big numbers due to his exciting style, a Pacquiao fight is smething to really look forward to.

Btw, i suggest that Marquez put Heredia on retainer and prepare for Pacquiao’s* final challenge . . . in 2016.

Posted June 13, 2013 8:03 pm

I think his legacy is set and really can’t be ruined unless somehow there is some evidence of him cheating like there was with Margacheato and probly now Mosley. It’s like Roy Jones. He can lose plenty more fights but his first 50 fights are set in stone and he was the very best at that time and there is no taking that away. Now the younger generation will remember him losing but the older generation will remember how great he actually was.

Hecdog -just stop it already and move on..Manny Pacquiao has been ktfo by a fighter who has never failed a drug doesn’t matter how many times you and whatever is left of the pactards around here say..all everybody remembers is Pacquiao planted on the canvas face down, ass up by a clean counter right hand by the great Juan.

Posted June 13, 2013 7:17 pm

Pacquiaos an ATG but he had better focus on boxing or he’s gonna taint his legacy… The Wolves are at his door he might wanna make boxing first for a minute assuming he wants to continue…

Manny Clearly lost the 3rd fight. And you keep saying stuff about Marquez and PED usage. But you avoid the fact that Manny refused to do Olympic style testing by making excuses. He should of just said no. But don’t forget he has cheated on his wife and has kids by other women that he was having affairs with

Gentlemen, I think it’s time for all boxing fans to celebrate Manny Pacquiao. What I state in my posts is truth. I’m not trying to make him out to be something he’s not. Manny Pacquiao is admired for accomplishing so much not only in boxing, but in life. No one can argue that. He has never failed a drug test ever, no one can argue that. He is involved in so many things other than boxing because people love him, and that cannot be argued. No other athlete has such a variety of pure talent. Tell me one man or two men that have evolved in so many areas, and found success in all the areas Manny has involved himself in. Look, he is a great boxer, that can’t be argued, but more importantly, he is a great human being that knows no boundaries. He handled his loss vs JMM with class even though JMM sadly had to use a Ped Supplier to achieve something he could not do in three fights that were clearly won by Manny Pacquiao. We all saw the muscle bound old man develop power that he never had in his prime. We don’t have to see tests results that can be manipulated by JMM’s king of Peds nutritionist to know what happened. Manny still handled it all with grace, respect and honor. The world crime rate stops when Manny Pacquiao fights because they have to see him fight. That’s incredible to know.

Hecdog is simply amazing to spew forth such diatribe and with Manny’s nuts in his mouth at the same time. I guess after all the years of alleged PED abuse those nuts are quite small now. Oh yeah you forgot to add 8 division catch weight champ and adulterer to his accolades.

Posted June 13, 2013 3:31 pm

Manny Pacquiao is simply amazing. The variety of accomplishments continues to grow. I have no doubt this tournament will be the most successful boxing event ever. Manny Pacquiao is a living legend that conquers everything he touches. Yes I’m a fan, but the truth is that a man that came from nothing and turns his life around to be the greatest fighter of all time, only division boxing champion in the history of boxing, Congressman, record breaking movies, world wide, record breaking singer, Philanthropist, Bible school teacher, loving father, son, brother and helper of the poor. His face is on the cover of TIME Magazine. He’s in commercials everywhere, And now he tops it off with the Manny Pacquiao Boxing Championships. The man is incredible. He is a blessed man that has the world in his hands. He’s not simply just a boxer that earns success, retires, hangs on, loses his savings and lives a very underprivileged life. No, Manny Pacquiao is a man of God that helps the entire world. Name one other boxer in history that can match his accomplishments inside or outside the ring. I truly admire those people that can overcome tough times and challenges in their lives. Manny Pacquiao is one man that has done more than anyone thought he could accomplish. Manny Pacquiao towers over guys like Floyd Mayweather and others that only have jealousy and envy against him. Why hate on a man that is respectful, honorable, honest, caring and helps make this world a better place. Let’s forget that he is the best boxer ever, and take a look at him as a human being. Manny keeps growing and attaining things that are seemingly impossible. He is a role model to be respected and appreciated by all. This is a man of God. He will make a way where there is now way. Manny is the example of this scripture. Amazing man.
