Frankie Gavin has warned pro footballer turned boxer Curtis Woodhouse he will give him the red card on July 16. Birmingham City fan Gavin used to cheer Woodhouse from the terraces when he played for the midlands outfit, but now he will be aiming to knock him out at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
The pair meet for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Intercontinental Welterweight title on Frank Warren’s big summer promotion headlined by Ricky Burns WBO World Super-Featherweight title defence against Nicky Cook, live on Sky Sports 1HD.
“Woodhouse is standing between me and my world title ambitions,” said fired up Frankie.
“I couldn’t get the knockout I wanted in my last fight against Young Mutley, so I’ll be taking out my frustrations on Woodhouse.
“There’s definitely a bit of needle between us.
“He’s been after a fight with me for a while, telling everyone that he’s going to beat me, so I’m definitely up for this one.
“I can’t wait to shut him up once and for all.”
Former amateur world champion Gavin is unbeaten as a professional, and is aiming for more titles in the next 18 months.
“I want the British title, definitely, before I move on to world level,” said Gavin.
“I’d love the Commonwealth and European belts too.
“The most important thing for me is to keep busy with five or six fights over the next year or so, and then I’m sure the belts will come.”

Dulorme-Corley, Galarz-Garcia on ESPN2 on Friday; Interviews from Boxing Hall of Fame and with Champ Cotto
June, 8 2011: In celebration of New York’s Puerto Rican Day, ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra, will originate from New York City June 10 when former NABO junior welterweight titlist Kenny Galarza (14-1, 14 KOs) and undefeated welterweight knockout artist Thomas “El Frances” Dulorme (11-0, 10 KOs) are featured in co-main events. The action will begin at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com and 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN Deportes.
Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside at the Roseland Ballroom describing the action. Studio host Jeremy Schaap will present all the latest boxing news and highlights.

Puerto Rico’s Galarza will meet fellow countryman Irving “Chuma” Garcia (17-6-3, 8 KOs). Galarza rebounded in his last fight with a fourth-round TKO over Ilido Julio, after losing a 10-round decision against Brad Soloman in his previous fight. After the Soloman fight ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael wrote, “This was an excellent match on paper, because it was between undefeated prospects with different styles. Galarza, a standout amateur, is an aggressive fighter who likes to mix it up and use his outstanding power to end fights early.”
Galarza’s Cutman Jose Bonilla said, “He’s training really hard for this fight. After the loss against Solomon, he wants his name to sound again like one of the best prospects not just from the island, but in boxing. He wants to impress.”
Puerto Rico’s Dulorme will meet Washington, D.C.’s Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (37-17-1, 22 KOs). Dulorme has won his last 10 fights by knockout-all within the first two rounds, and is coming off a second-round TKO over Harrison Cuello. After that fight Rafael wrote, “Dulorme remains untested, but he has the look of a possible star. He has charisma, good size for his division, tremendous speed and obvious power. Dulorme scored a flash knockdown in the second round before authoring a devastating one-punch knockout. A few seconds after the first knockdown, Dulorme connected with a picture-perfect left hand that knocked out Cuello cold. The punch landed with such authority that it was audible in the arena in a way that sounded different than most other knockout punches. In this early stage of his pro career he’s definitely a kid to keep an eye on.”

“Genaro was a champion in the ring, a champion in society, a champion to his family and friends, and will be a champion for eternity as he has left his mark through his passing in life which will always be an inspiration to many.
“His charismatic smile, his soft-spoken style, his bravery in the ring and sportsmanship were always an example to all, and he was a natural leader who only cared to do good deeds in this world.
“Genaro won the WBC super featherweight world championship in a dramatic fashion – while he has ahead on the scorecards, an accidental after-the-bell punch landed on his throat from then-champion Azumah Nelson. Genaro could have stayed down and would have won by disqualification, but instead he continued fighting and won a 12-round decision over the legendary “Professor” Nelson.
“Genaro only lost two fights in the ring: against Oscar de la Hoya, and his last fight in which he surrendered his WBC championship to Floyd Mayweather.
“Genaro was the first boxer to ever participate in the WBC Cares program. He visited the Los Angeles Childrens Hospital and was deeply touched by the so-many kids who were suffering from cancer. The WBC was informed by the hospital that Genaro, on his own, returned the following day to give many toys and presents to the kids.
