News: Joey Gilbert; 8Count Presents ‘New Year’s Revoluton’

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 21, 2008) Declaring and showing that he is “More Than Ready” for his February 14th grudge match with Joey Gilbert, Yerington’s Jesse Brinkley impressively took care of business on Saturday night with a third round stoppage of Shreveport’s James Johnson at the Burr Arena in Washington, D.C..

With a brutal body shot, Brinkley, 32-5 (22KO’s) earned the stoppage at the 1:54 mark of the third round. Using his potent left jab and power shots throughout the bout, Brinkley was consistently in control against Johnson who fell 23-31-3 (12KO’s).

“This was just what Jesse needed. He had a little rust from the six month layoff, but now he’s ready to get back into serious training for Gilbert”, said Brinkley promoter Terry Lane of “Let’s Get It On” Promotions.

Brinkley will now spend Christmas in Northern Nevada with his family before heading to Rhode Island to train with Peter Manfredo Jr. for the showdown with Gilbert.

CHICAGO, IL (December 19, 2008) Tickets are now on sale for “NEW YEAR’S REVOLUTION, an evening of world class professional boxing set for Friday, January 23rd at Cicero Stadium, it was announced today by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING.

Advance tickets, starting at $30, can be obtained in advance by calling the 8 Count Productions office at 312-226-5800. Cicero Stadium is located at 1909 S. Laramie in Cicero. Doors on the evening of the event will open at 7pm with the first bell at 8pm.

Headlining “NEW YEAR’S REVOLUTION” is the return of popular Irish junior middleweight Henry “THE WESTERN WARRIOR” Coyle, 9-1-0 (8KO’s). Coyle is coming off an eight round decision win over Sergejs Savrinovics on November 15th in Castlebar, Ireland.

The co-main event will feature Chicago’s hottest boxing prospect, junior welterweight Ivan Popoca, 8-0-1 (7KO’s), in a six round bout. The heavy handed Popoca has won his last two bouts with devastating first round knockouts.

Also featured at “NEW YEAR’S REVOLUTION” is fast rising super bantamweight prospect, Eric “EL LOCO” Estrada, 6-0 (2KO’s) in a six round bout.. The 20 year old Estrada is coming off a terrific decision win over Ivan Rodriguez on November 14th, which had the packed house at Cicero Stadium on their feet for the duration of the battle.

Junior welterweight newcomer Ryan Smedick, 2-0 (1KO) will return to the ring in a scheduled four round bout. Smedick made his pro debut by knocking out Eric Bradford on August 15th at the Aragon Ballroom and followed up with a decision over Gustavo Palacios on November 14th at Cicero Stadium.

Also added to the card, featherweight William Hernandez will be making his professional debut.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be noted boxing ring announcer Thomas Treiber.
