Brähmer vs Veit 2 on Sept. 15

It was announced today at a press conference that super middleweight contenders Jürgen Brähmer (29-1, 23 KOs) and Mario Veit (49-3, 23 KOs) will meet in a highly charged rematch on September 15 in the idyllic seaside resort “Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Düne” of Rostock, Germany. Veit upset Brähmer 13 months ago in a clash for the WBC International title and the German “100 Year Talent” Brähmer says he has improved since then.

The loss to Veit was Brähmer’s first and only defeat and he has won two straight since. The first was a spectacular eighth round KO against Francisco Mora, followed by a very tough twelve round decision over former world champion Hector Javier Velazco for the WBO intercontinental belt. A bout in which Brähmer recovered from a knockdown to win.

“I am happy about the rematch and I have learned since the defeat,” said Brähmer about the upcoming clash between Universum stablemates. “Now I have a chance to iron out that loss.”

Brähmer’s trainer Michael Timm added: “We are already into intensive preparations. We will train in Hamburg and also go to Sölden. Intra-stable fights are not desirable, but we have to do what we have to do.”

Since his loss of his WBC Int’l title to Universum collegue Denis Inkin, the former interim world champion Veit is again on his way up after a shutout win over Valentin Antonio Ochoa in April.
“I didn’t really want this fight,” said Veit, “but I’ll win again to get back on my way to the top.”

Veit’s trainer Fritz Sdunek stated, “Stall duels should be avoided, but this time we must do it. Mario will first train in Zinnowitz and then three weeks before the fight in Kitzbühel. Mario will again be going into this fight in top shape.”

Rostock Mayor Roland Methling is excited to be hosting the “Universum Champions Night.“. “We’re happy that we can be in the lineup with bigger cities like Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Berlin. Rostock is hot for boxing.”
