Toney – Russell Co-Feature Oct 28 at Mohegan Sun!

14.10.06 -Brockton, MA – Already being headlined by a Mike Oliver – Adam Carrera USBA Junior Featherweight Title bout, Cappiello Promotions has announced the addition of an exciting 10-round light-heavyweight co-feature bout, between veteran Rodney Toney and upcoming prospect Anthony Russell, to its October 28 Mohegan Sun Fight Night card. ” This should be a very exciting fight,” promoter Rich Cappiello states. ” Anytime you put a seasoned veteran, like Toney, in with a young prospect, like Russell, you can expect some fireworks!”

Toney (28-4-4, 17 KO’s), who hasn’t fought in over a year, is hoping a win over Russell will begin his quest for one more shot at a world championship. In his fourteen years as a professional, Toney has fought for the NABF middleweight title on three occasions, and fought to a controversial draw with Silvio Branco in a WBU super-middleweight title fight.
Russell, a 2002 Canadian National Amateur Champion in the light-heavyweight division, has accumulated an impressive record (14-1-1, 3 KO’s), in his four years as a professional prize-fighter. At age 22, Russell realizes time is on his side, but does not see it to be of much advantage in his upcoming bout with Toney. “He’s a little bit older, sure, but he’s still very dangerous. He has a heck of a lot more experience than me, too.”

However, Russell does plan on utilizing his youthfulness in any manner that he can. ” I’m going to go in there and use my speed and combinations. I’m going to try and overwhelm him, to outwork him for all ten rounds, ” says Russell.
Cappiello Promotions has also announced that Hartford, CT heavyweight prospect Tony Grano has also been added to the evening’s card. Grano (5-0, 5 KO’s) will take on an opponent to be named soon.

“Grano is an exciting, heavy-handed local prospect, and I’m really glad he’s going to be on the card. He fought just a couple weeks ago, so we had to wait and see how things went, before we finalized his fighting at Mohegan Sun. With the addition of Tony Grano, and a terrific co-feature bout, we now have a tremendous ten-bout fight card. Add in the fact that it all takes place at the state-of-the-art Mohegan Sun Arena, with a USBA title fight headlining, and you have an excellent night of boxing,” states Cappiello!
