8 Count Finalizes Aragon Showdown For This Friday Night

20.07.06 – Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING, has announced final details for the ARAGON SHOWDOWN this Friday night, July 21st headlined by the return of undefeated light heavyweight prospect Tavoris Cloud of Tallahassee, Florida. The ARAGON SHOWDOWN is another monthly installment of the finest in Chicago boxing presented by 8 Count Productions, Miller Lite and TCF bank..

The fully air conditioned Aragon Ballroom is located at 1106 W. Lawrence Avenue on the north side of Chicago. Doors for this event will open at 7pm; with the first bell scheduled for 8pm. Tickets starting at $25 are available in advance by calling 312-226-5800.

Said Pesoli, “It’s another great event we’ve put together for Chicagoland fight fans
which gives them a chance to see some terrific prospects and a couple of very good looking newcomers. The air conditioning will be on full blast on Friday night but as usual there will be a lot of heat in the ring. Our matchmaker Jerry Alfano has done another outstanding job with these evenly matched bouts.”

“This is one of our rare events that isn’t televised so we’re expected a very large
crowd on Friday night at the Aragon” stated Pesoli.

The former national amateur standout Cloud, 10-0, (9KO’s) will face Arkansas toughman Mitch Hicks, 5-4 (5KO’s) in an eight round light heavyweight battle. Cloud’s last appearance in Chicago was a crushing second round knockout of Anthony Dennis on the 8 Count Productions’ MADNESS IN MARCH event at the Aragon Ballroom.

Said Pesoli, “We’re very proud to bring Cloud back, he’s a terrific prospect who generates excitement with each fight. Hicks is a very strong, tough kid from Arkansas and this should be a real war.”

The co-main event features the return of one of Chicago’s most popular fighters, Francisco Rodriguez, 7-1 (5KO’s) who will be featured in a scheduled eight round bout.

In a special attraction, Chicagoland fan favorite super middleweight Donovan “DA BOMB” George, 8-0-1 (6KO’s) will battle Joe Varela, 10-6-1 (5KO’s)of Phoenix, Arizona.

The 21 year old prospect George, 8-0-1 (6KO’s), returned to Chicagoland with a stunning second round knockout of Robert Smallwood on the 8 Count Productions’ DESTINY card on June 16th at Cicero Stadium. His previous two fights were wins over Julio Cesar Lanzas and Allen Medina at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Varela, 10-6-1 (5KO’s) fighting out of Phoenix, Arizona, is coming off a decision win over Anthony Bartinelli at the Coyote Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

In a four round bout featuring undefeated super lightweights, Jeff “The Big Frog” Curran, 1-1 (1KO) of Crystal Lake, Illinois, faces Raul Garcia, 3-0 (1KO) of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Making his pro debut after an outstanding amateur career, Chicago super lightweight Ashour Eshoo will battle Jermaine Sanders, 1-0 (1KO) of Fort Wayne, IN in a scheduled four round bout.

Also making his pro debut is Chicago lightweight Marcos Esquivel who will face Tim Lindgren, 1-1 of Cass Lake, Minnesota.

The weigh-in for this event will take place on Thursday, July 20th at Club Aquarius at 7pm. Club Aquarius is located at 2459 N. Pulaski on the northwest side of Chicago.
